Ella walked into her room and shut the door. She slowly walked to the back of the room, where there was a full-length mirror closet. She looked at herself for the first time. He, (No, She. She had to start referring to herself as a girl, Ella thought) was now shorter than before. Ella scowled at the thought. She hated being short when she was a boy. She was still wearing the red jacket, which hung to her ankles. Even though the clothes had grown bigger, Ella decided to keep her outfit. She had no interest in wearing Melody's short dresses or Fiona's bridal-like gowns.

Ella examined the changes the potion had wrought. Her hair was still blonde, but now it fell to her shoulders. Her face seemed softer, more open. The sword clipped on her belt looked enormous when compared to her tiny frame.

"Hello! Are you going to keep staring at yourself or will you talk to me?" A high-pitched voice said. Ella reacted instantly. She yanked her sword out of her belt with lightning speed and crouched down, looking for the threat. Adventuring in dangerous places had taught her to always be aware of her surroundings. Ella's ears strained to hear a sound over her beating heart.

"I'm right here!" The voice said. Ella looked around. The voice sighed. "I'm on your shoulder." Ella looked at her left shoulder, and sure enough, there was a miniature-sized girl on her shoulder. The only color the girl had on her was pink. Pink ribbons, pink shoes, and a fluffy pink dress.

"And you are...?" Ella asked nervously. The girl shot her a glare.

"My name's Angel." She informed Ella. "And I'm your shoulder girl." Ella was confused.

"My shoulder what?" Angel heaved an impressive sigh for her small body. "You know that potion Melody gave you?" Ella nodded. "Well, it was supposed to give you a shoulder angel and a shoulder devil, like you see in comics." Ella motioned for her to continue. "Unfortunately, Melody used too much lavender, so instead the potion turned you into a girl and gave you, well, - us."

"Us?" Ella asked.

"Yeah. Us. Look on your right shoulder." Ella turned slowly and saw a miniature boy. The boy wore simple clothing, more suited to a forest than an airship, Ella thought. He sat on Ella's shoulder and glared at Angel.

"I thought you said she wasn't supposed to know about us!" He told Angel grumpily. Angel waved his concerns aside.

"Yes, but I'm bored! Don't worry, Hunter," She said soothingly, "The only one who can see us is her. And who's she going to tell? They'll think she's crazy." Hunter still didn't look convinced but didn't get to voice his concerns when a knock came.

"Come in," Ella said, still not sure if this was real. She had just become a girl and gained two miniature people on her shoulders in just 24 hours. Pad came in.

"We need your help," He told her, "None of us knows where India is."

"You don't know where India is?" Ella asked incredulously. Pad bristled.

"In case ya've forgotten, I'm an orphan." He reminded her, "I don't have time for fancy geography lessons. Melody's no help, either. She's been in that village since she was born. And Fiona - who knows where she's from?" Ella nodded. She was about to follow Pad out the room when she saw a red ribbon from the sword's packaging. On impulse, she picked it up and tied her hair into a ponytail. Pad watched her in confusion.

"What made ya' do that?" He asked her.

"I thought it would be useful. I can't fight if my hair's in the way." Ella explained.

"It suits ya'." Pad smiled at her. Ella felt something warm and gooey in her stomach.

"He totally likes you!" Angel squealed. Hunter snorted. Ignoring them both, Ella followed Pad out of the room.
