Has Anyone Seen The Captain's Ring?

.

( An ode to Jack and Ianto )

.

.

.

As he whimpered and stared; prayed his life might be spared

Jack felt dread as he gazed at the ceiling.

Looking down at each hand; still no sign of a band

It was really the worst ever feeling.

.

.

It was only last spring he'd been given the thing

Ianto'd looked so divine down there kneeling.

And small niggles aside; who'd be groom, who'd be bride

They'd both found the idea quite appealing.

.

.

They'd agreed on a date; neither willing to wait

And mid-summer, for both, seemed most fitting.

Then a honeymoon spent somewhere other than Gwent …..

… ( with the rift and the God's both permitting ).

.

.

.

.

That was months ago now, they'd had row after row

It was all his fault, if he was honest.

And with Ianto still distant …. ( the odd cup of cold instant )

He'd had regular prompts of his promise.

.

.

.

Time was ticking away, what on earth could he say?

He would be along soon with his beverage.

If he didn't think fast, this drink might be his last

….. ( maybe passion would offer some leverage? ).

.

.

With an intake of breath and still fearful of death

He prayed hard that they soon may be wedded.

Ianto might be delicious; but could also get vicious

And the thought made Jack feel quite light-headed.

.

.

Tired of procrastinating, he stepped on the grating

Ianto looked up from where he was filing.

"Okay, team, here's the thing … any one seen my ring?"

... Ianto quickly looked down again, smiling.

.

.

With a pout Jack glanced round, the girls stared at the ground

From behind he could hear Owen's laughter.

"What's the joke?" …. He looked miffed. "Is there something Adrift?"

It was then the screech came from the rafters.

.

.

With it hooked on her beak, their pet gave a loud squeak;

Shook her head, giving Jack's ring a wiggle.

Then she swooped in a dive and the thing slipped inside,

Ianto watched on and tried not to giggle.

.

.

Staring up in the air, Jack warned. "Girl; don't you dare …

….. oh, my God, did she really just chew it?"

Ianto sighed. "It's still whole; I'll go fetch you a bowl …..

… you can search when the thing passes through it."

.

.

"Oh, you've got to be joking! If you think I'm poking

My fingers around in waste matter …"

"Here ya go …" Owen shrugged. "Here's a scoop and some gloves …..

… Now just pray that the stuff doesn't splatter!"

.

.

Jack frowned after his lover … he was scarpering for cover

"Hey, don't leave me like this!" He cried; weary.

Ianto growled. "Serves you right, if you'd kept it in sight …..

The old girl would still be in her eerie."

.

.

With Jack nodding in shame, Ianto still played his game

Wond'ring whether to make his confession;

If he'd just kept his word; then maybe that old bird

Would have not learned her magpie impression!

.

.

.

.

"You prise open her beak; we'll get married next week ….."

Promised Jack as his Welshman stood grinning.

Ianto smiled. "Okay, Jack, we'll both get your ring back."

'Cause he loved him ….. but more …..…. he loved winning.
