Prologue

It was a bright, sunny day and even though it was still winter, the warmth coming from the sun provided a brief respite from the bitter cold. In the distance a group of kayaks slowly streamed past low hills, rocky crags and a massive, lucid white glacier; making their way across to the huge rock peak just beyond where the glacial river meets the wide open sea and it was there where the village was.

'The hunters are back!" came the excited shouts of the villagers and many immediately gathered at the waterfront to greet them, the approaching men gradually steered their kayaks towards the shore and gently rammed them into the muddy bank.

Whilst many of the hunters found themselves surrounded by the excited community, one hunter Akiak; a tall, slightly bearded, robust man with amber-coloured clothes, quickly got out of his kayak and eagerly scrutinized through the welcoming throng, looking for the one person he wanted to see the most. After a long time being away from home, Akiak couldn't wait to see his beautiful wife Buniq.

Then from amongst the many amicable faces, he saw a heart-shaped face with long, black hair braided into a delicate tress and warm, brown eyes; grinning widely at him.

"Dear one" Akiak pushed through the crowd and immediately rushed over to hug his wife.

"Oh Akiak, you're back" Buniq exclaimed and she hugged him back "I missed you so much"

"So did I but it's all right, I'm home now" Akiak replied and with that, the two shared a loving kiss.

Then Buniq suddenly broke away and touched her head as if in pain but she quickly recomposed herself.

"Buniq are you okay?" Akiak asked worriedly, there was something different about her but he couldn't exactly figure out what.

Buniq just smiled and gently took his hand before leading him away from the boisterous crowd.

"I have something to tell you".

Author's note: hi there, this is just a little note about the progress of this story. I've been meaning to continue but my computer had a sudden breakdown which sucks and everything I had there was nearly lost, but luckily they were all saved. Still I can't update due to my being currently overseas with little wifi access but I'll do so when I get back in January, until then enjoy my prologue; it'll get more interesting I promise 😊
