Disclaimer: I don't own HP, I only own my OC's
I sighed as some first year Gryffindor's glared at me. I was only visiting my twin for goodness sake; I wasn't here to kill them all. Fortunately because of my close relation with Ron, I was able to enter the dorm with no problem at all.
"I hope everyone is decent," I said teasingly as I burst through the door. Harry jumped, dropping a thick piece of parchment. Ron was stuffing his face with chocolate. "Happy Birthday, twin of mine."
"Spying on me, Harry?" I smirked, picking up the map and handing it to him.
"You shouldn't just barge in like that, Amelie." Harry said. "What if one of the boys was changing?"
I gave a thoughtful look.
"Actually, don't answer that."
"Happy birthday," Harry smiled as he gave me a large hug. I smiled, "Thanks for my present, how did you know I needed more writing materials?"
"I have my ways," he turned to my twin, "Ready?"
Ron looked a bit out of it, he was leaning against his bedpost, staring at the pouring rain.
"Ron?" I asked, walking up to him.
"Ron. Breakfast?" Harry urged.
"I'm not hungry."
I laughed. "What the hell?"
"'I thought you just said -?'
"-Well, all right, I'll come down with you," sighed Ron, "but I don't want to eat."
"Ron," I started. "Are you alright?"
"You wouldn't understand." Ron said breathlessly. "I can't stop thinking about her!"
I rolled my eyes, "I don't think that this will stop you from having breakfast."
"She doesn't even know I exist."
I scoffed, "I would hope she does."
"Who are you talking about?" Ron asked.
"Who are you talking about?" Harry and I asked at the same time.
"Romilda Vane," Ron sighed.
"Very funny, Ron." I laughed. "Drop the joke."
Suddenly Ron stormed up to me, fist raised. He looked ready to strike. I let out a scream, "What the hell?"
"You insulted her; you said she was a joke!"
"I'm your twin! Get away from me!"
Ron grumbled before pacing angrily.
"Harry," I said slowly. "Go check those chocolates."
"I don't have to," he sighed. "They're spiked with a love potion."
"You have got to be kidding me," I laughed.
"Let's go see Romilda," Harry said. "She's in Slughorn's office."
Harry always had to ruin my fun. Soon we were in front of Slughorn's office. "He'll probably be at break-" Slughorn interrupted me by opening his office door.
"Students," he grumbled. "It's a bit of an early call."
"Professor, I'm really sorry to disturb you," said Harry as I struggled to contain Ronald, "but my friend Ron's swallowed a love potion by mistake. You couldn't make him an antidote, could you? I'd take him to Madam Pomfrey, but we're not supposed to have anything from Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes and, you know ... awkward questions ..."
Moments later, Slughorn was passing a clear liquid to my Twin. He took the antidote and his love-struck face dissolved into utter horror.
"Back to normal, huh?" I joked.
Slughorn passed each of us a glass of Mead, Ron had already chugged it down before we could raise a toast to us for our birthday. I raised an eyebrow in amusement, but it soon vanished when Ron dropped his glass; crumbling to the ground with foam dribbling from his mouth.
"Ron!" I screamed as I rushed to his side.
"Professor, do something!"
Slughorn just stood there, frozen by shock.
"Ron" I shouted again. Suddenly I was pushed to the side and Harry shoved something into his mouth. Suddenly Ron's body went limp, "What did you do?" I screamed.
"I saved him."
[Page Break]
It was past eight o clock by the time we were allowed inside. Fred and George arrived at around ten minutes past; they passed a small package over to me before giving me a large hug.
"This isn't how we imagined handing over your presents," George said grimly.
""You were in Hogsmeade?" asked Ginny, looking up.
"We were thinking of buying Zonko's," said Fred gloomily. "A Hogsmeade branch, you know, but a fat lot of good it'll do us if you lot aren't allowed out at weekends to buy our stuff anymore ... But never mind that now."
I sighed, perching on Fred's lap, staring at my twins pale face. Herman sniffled a little; I must say it was scary seeing her bolt up to us pale-faced and demanding to know what had happened.
"Do Mum and Dad know?" Fred asked me quietly.
"They were here earlier." I said shortly.
"So the poison was in the drink?"
"Yes, Slughorn poured it out for us."
"You mean you could have been poisoned too?" George, put his head in his hands.
"Dumbledore reckons Voldemort wanted Slughorn on his side," said Harry. "Slughorn was in hiding for a year before he came to Hogwarts. And maybe Voldemort wants him out of the way, maybe he thinks he could be valuable to Dumbledore."
"Wasn't it supposed to be a present for Dumbledore?" Ginny asked. "So this attacker could just as easily have been after Dumbledore."
My heart stopped for a second, someone who was after Dumbledore.
"Are you alright, Ams?" Ginny asked me.
"Yeah, I'm just tired."
"You've had quite an eventful day," Madame Pomfrey strolled past. "I think you should go get some sleep."
I nodded, "I'll just head up to my dorm. Let me know if anything happens."
I gave Ron a swift peck on his forehead before saying goodnight to everyone. I never imagined that my 16th birthday would be faced with nearly losing my twin brother. It didn't even feel like my birthday and I certainly wasn't entitled to celebrate it under the circumstances.
I opened the door to the common room, praying that I could get to my room in peace. Theo, Draco and Blaise were the only ones still up.
Theo jumped up, "There she is! Happy Birthday, baby!" he gave me a big hug.
I gave him a weak smile in return. "What's wrong?" he asked, worried. "Are you alright?"
"Ron was poisoned," I said sadly.
"Poisoned!?" Theo exclaimed. "Woah, is he going to be okay?"
"Yeah," I sighed. "He's going to be alright. It's just lucky Harry managed to find the antidote quick enough."
"Merlin," Blaise butted in. "You alright Ams?"
"Yeah," I nodded. "Slughorn is still a bit shocked."
"So at least we can rule him out," Theo said.
"He was shocked, I think the Mead was a gift or something." I said, sparing Draco a glance. He looked at me for a few seconds before turning back to his potions paper.
"I guess no one is ever really safe, huh?" Blaise said.
Oh how naïve he was.
"So I guess you've had a pretty awful birthday?"
"Not really," I sighed. "It's just a birthday."
"Well Happy Birthday, princess." Theo said, I rolled my eyes as Draco shot him a heated glare due to the use of endearment.
"Thanks," I smiled. The door slammed open and Snape came barging in, "Nott, Zambini you were supposed to be serving detention this evening. Don't think that I'll let you off the hook because you're in my house."
They grumbled in annoyance before following Snape out of the dorm. Leaving me alone with Draco once again; I glared as he went on with his work.
"That poison could have killed him," I said. "You went too far this time."
"It wasn't meant for him," Draco said. "That git should learn to test random presents given to him."
"But it wasn't meant for Slughorn, was it? It was for Dumbledore."
"Keep your voice down," he looked at me harshly.
I rolled my eyes, "Right, whatever. You know you won't get to him; he'll see it coming. I'm just warning you now that Harry is onto you."
"Potty and his band of merry followers are no match for what's coming," he bit out.
"We'll see," and with that I stood up and walked away.
