Chapter Sixteen- "Silent Ambush Pt. 2"
"So what is it that you want Marty Deeks," Morelli asked him as then walked into his back room.
"I want in," Deeks said. "You can call me Deeks."
"In?" Morelli asked.
"You can have your guys look up my history and background, but all you'll find is that I am good at what I do," Deeks said. "I help get whatever you need into L.A. and make sure the cops look the other way."
"You have already proved you would kill for this job," Morelli said. "Now you will prove you can do what you say."
"Just tell me the time and date and I'll have it all set up for you," Deeks said.
"Tomorrow night, 8pm," Morelli said. "I have a big shipment coming in and I need to make sure it does not get flagged."
"Is there anything I should know about a head of time? I just want to make sure all my basis are covered, because if what you are bringing in gets flagged by someone else I might not be able to help," Deeks said. "I'll do what I can."
"It will not get flagged," Morelli said.
"Okay then," Deeks said. "I'll go get that all set up for you."
"I want you to set it up in front of me," Morelli said. Deeks had a filling this might be the case, he knew he had this all prepared.
"My contact knows when the phone is on speaker and refuses to speak to me, let alone do anything for me," Deeks said. "So let me handle this my way first and then we can arrange for you to meet my contact, so we can deal with him better."
"If there is a single cop tomorrow night, you are a dead man," Morelli said.
"There will be no cops," Deeks said. He then walked out of the room and back onto the floor, heading towards the exit. He was about half way when he saw Kensi sitting at the bar. He walked over to her, ready to kick her out. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"I'm wasting my free time," Kensi snapped at Deeks.
"You can't be here," Deeks said. "It's not safe."
"Why because you are here?" Kensi said. "What are you doing here anyways?"
"It doesn't matter, you just need to go home," Deeks said.
"I'm so stupid," Kensi said. "This is your mission?"
"SHH," Deeks snapped. "You need to go."
"I had no idea," Kensi said. "If I knew I wouldn't have come. Where are Sam and Callen?"
"They're within a good distance," Deeks said. "I need to go, but when I get back you better be gone."
"Yeah," Kensi said. "Deeks be careful."
"I'm good at what I do," Deeks said. He then exited the building. He wanted to take Kensi with him, but since she was tied back to Carlos. He knew that wouldn't be the best idea. So instead he continued on with what he needed to do.
Kensi got up from the bar stool and grabbed her stuff. She was just about to leave when an arm grabbed her.
"You're coming with me," the man said. He then dragged her into the back, where Morelli was waiting there.
"What the hell is going on?" Kensi said.
"Funny was going to ask you the same question," Morelli said. He walked over to Kensi and slowly started to circle her. "You seem to know my old employee and now you know my new on. I find that to be very interesting.
"I don't know who you are, so not sure who works for you and who doesn't," Kensi said to him.
"His name was Carlos Alvarez, or should I say Detective Carlos Alvarez," Morelli said to her. "They other is Marty Deeks. So how do you seem to know both?"
"Carlos I met at a club, it was nothing really," Kensi said to him. "As for Deeks, he's an ex that seems to think he can still control my life."
"I don't believe you," Morelli said. "Who are you?"
"Alexa," Kensi said.
"No you aren't," Morelli said. "I knew there was something about you, I just couldn't place my finger on it. How is dear old Hetty?" Kensi tried not to freak out what she heard him say Hetty's name.
"I don't know anyone by that name," Kensi said.
"I think you do," Morelli said. "So now tell me did Hetty send you here to me?"
"No," Kensi said. It really wasn't a lie. "Like I said I don't know anyone by the name of Hetty. My name is Alexa." Kensi said, she then turned to try and leave but Morelli stepped in front of her to stop her.
"You aren't leave just yet," Morelli said. He then started to walk closer to Kensi as she walked backwards trying to get away from him. "I will find out who you are and what you are doing here one way or another."
"I'm just here to enjoy the club," Kensi said.
"Then enjoy it you shall," Morelli said with an evil grin. He then wrapped his arm around Kensi and pulled her closer. Kensi tried to get away, but his grip was just too strong.
"LAPD," a voice said. Morelli turned to see Deeks holding up his gun pointing it at him. Kensi was so relived to see Deeks, she tried to break free again but Morelli just pulled her closer to his side. He pulled out a gun and held it to her head. "Put the gun down."
"I knew things were a little to perfect, but I ignored them," Morelli said.
"That's because I want you to see it that way," Deeks said. "I wasn't lying when I said there'd be no cops tomorrow night."
"You really expect me to believe you were just going to let me walk away tomorrow night?" Morelli said. "But I do know you are going to let me walk away now. You wouldn't want to hurt an innocent person, or was she working with you the whole time?"
"She's not part of this Morelli. Just let her go," Deeks said. His mind went back to home many times he and Kensi had faced this shot once before and each time they took the shoot. Now too much was at risk.
"Oh she is part of this," Morelli said. "I should have seen it from the beginning."
"You don't have to hurt her," Deeks said as he pointed his gun at Morelli. Morelli had his gun pointed at Kensi head and all Deeks could think was one wrong move and Kensi was dead. He knew he'd never forgive himself if Kensi ended up hurt, but at the same time he was pissed at Kensi for even being there.
"You know you could have been a great addition to the organization, it's a shame you're not so dirty after all," Morelli said.
"It's me you want, just let her go," Deeks said. He stood there trying to figure out if he had the shot or not. He could tell Kensi was freaking out, something he never saw her do.
"Now where's the fun in that?" Morelli said. "I can tell you care about this one, so no she stays with me."
"I will put my weapon down," Deeks said. He was going to do whatever he could to get him to let Kensi go. Deeks then slowly pulled his hand off the trigger and moved is sidewise as he helped up his other hand.
"It just means it's going to be easier to kill you," Morelli said with a laugh. Just then a door swung up and Callen, Sam and Carlos came rushing in with guns held up.
"Don't," Deeks said quickly, when he turned around to see them coming in. Deeks turned back to see Morelli was holding Kensi tighter.
"I knew I shouldn't have trusted you," Morelli said. "Say goodbye detective." Morelli then moved the gun away from Kensi's head and pointed at Deeks before firing. That set off a firestorm with Callen, Sam and Carlos firing back, Deeks tried to get them to stop, but it was no use.
"Kensi," Deeks yelled, but he when he turned back to find she was on the ground and Morelli was gone. Deeks rushed over to Kensi.
"Carlos Sam find him," Callen said. Sam and Carlos then took off to look for Morelli.
"Kensi," Deeks said panicking she has been hit.
"It's Fern actually," Kensi said softly. Without a second thought Deeks pulled her into a hug. "Deeks" Kensi said. Deeks pulled away.
"Sorry," Deeks said. He then got up and helped Kensi up back on to her feet.
"You okay?" Callen asked.
"I'm good if you're good," Kensi said as she looked at Deeks.
"I'm good," Deeks said, given her a smile.
"You good to go after Morelli?" Callen asked.
"I want him now more then ever," Deeks said.
"Kensi?" Callen said.
"I'm fine Callen, you guys go," Kensi said.
"Kensi I need my partner," Deeks said as he handed her his gun.
"I can't Deeks," Kensi said.
"Don't worry about the what ifs," Deeks said. "All you got is here and now, and right now the only person I want watching my back is my partner." Kensi took the gun from Deeks.
"Don't worry about the past Kensi," Callen said. "We trust you, that's all that matters."
"You ready?" Deeks said.
"Ready," Kensi.
"Lets go," Deeks said.
"First," Callen said. He walked over to Deeks and handed him his spare gun. Callen then lead them out of the door and in the direction of where Sam and Carlos had gone.
AN: The end is more of a way of showing that the teams got her back. That even though she's dealing with a lot, they still know in the end she'll come through for them. Also a way to help her get over her fear of hurting someone. She's been reckless and suspended, so she's in this place questioning things. While it goes this way, it's not going to be sunshine and roses afterwards.
