When Penelope walked through the door, she was prepared for a house only occupied by Jack and Haley's sister, but the sight that greeted her brought tears to her eyes. Tears of happiness. Tears of gratitude. Tears of Love. Standing before her was her family. Her sisters, brothers, and father figure. They were standing under elaborate decorations that must have taken hours to make and set up. There were colored streamers hanging all over the living room with strings of lights hanging with them. There were candles all around, giving the whole room a warm and comforting glow.
No one had said anything yet, in the time it took for her to look around at all they had done. They didn't know how she'd react, but they hope that she liked it. They worked hard to make this moment perfect for Hotch and Penelope because they deserved a moment like this, and they couldn't wait to see what the rest of the night had in store.
They saw that she was crying and they began to grow worried. Was it too much for her?
"Pen?" Derek finally spoke up. "Baby Girl, we just wanted to welcome you back, sorry we didn't mea-"
"No!" she croaked out, interrupting him, "No" she said again more softly through the tears, "It-it's perfect. More than perfect. It means so much to me. All of you, all of you mean so much to me" she finished as tears came rushing back to her. When they saw this all of them rushed to her for a giant group hug.
"Oh Pen, it's so good to have you back!" JJ said, and everyone nodded in agreement, some beginning to dawn tears of their own.
"It just hasn't been the same without you girl," Em added. "Can't wait to spend some more girl nights together," she finished with a laugh.
"Kitten," Rossi finally piped up, "if you ever give us a scare like that again, I will personally end it myself because my heart cannot take anymore" he said as he wrapped her up in a bear hug.
Oh how she had missed everyone. She couldn't believe all she had been through and all she had survived. She couldn't have done any of it without the very people who were in this room, showing her how much they loved her in return. She loved her family. She would do anything to protect her family, and they would do anything to protect her.
Reid hadn't said anything yet, but when Rossi was done with his hug, he immediately swept in to give her one of his own, whispering "missed you" into her hair. She wrapped her arms around him. This must have been hard for him. She was like a big sister to him and he a little brother to her. They were the sometimes misunderstood two of their little stitched together family, and they protected each other fiercely.
When everyone got the welcomes out of the way, Hotch came up behind Penelope and put his arms around her waist. His own eyes were a little glossy, but no one said anything because by now there wasn't a dry eye in the house. He turned her around to face him and buried his face in the crook of her neck. After breathing in her scent, the one that he had missed so much and grown so acquainted to, he looked up to the rest of their guests and smiled.
"Everyone, I think it's time we celebrated," he suggested, moving towards the kitchen when he got a general sense of agreement.
Penelope squeezed his arm, her face asking him a question she had yet to say. "She's in her crib. She was turned so I put her down. Do you want to see the nursery?" he asked, already knowing the answer as he guided her to their daughters room. When she entered, a fresh round of droplets wet her cheeks.
"Did you do this Hotch?" she whispered, emotions over taking her.
"I started. Had the plans ready, but everyone out there, they surprised me with this when I brought Aila back from the hospital." he explained, his own emotions semi-surfacing as he remembered that night.
"It's beautiful," she told him, turning back to him and pulling his lips down to hers for a passionate, but gentle kiss. God they would never get enough of each other. When they were finished they both turned back to celebrate with their family.
An hour later, and everyone was fed, relaxed, and catching Pen up about all she had missed, leaving out some rather gruesome cases. Suddenly, the front door opened and a little blonde mop rushed straight toward Pen's already waiting arms. Oh, it had only been about two days since he last visited her in the hospital, but they both missed each other.
"Jack!" she said when they finally pulled apart, "how you doing buddy?"
"Great!" he replied as energetically as any six year old would, "are you here to stay?" he questioned, "for good?"
"You betch ya, I am Jackers" she answered him. It wasn't until she held him at arms length did she notice that he was put into his little suit, hair combed and shoes polished.
"Why're you all dressed up Jack?" she asked him, looking for Hotchner.
"Penelope," Aaron replied, before his son could speak up. She had barely noticed that he was now on one knee in front of her. "I couldn't think of a better time to ask than in front of our family and friends. I want you to know how much you've meant and mean to me. How you've been my personal light. How you've brought me back from the edge, even when I didn't think there was a way to live again. How you have given me the best gift and how when I think of tomorrow and the rest of my life, I can only picture you there beside me. Penelope Garcia. Would you do me the very best honor of becoming my wife?" he said, barely choking out the rest as tears streamed proudly down his face. Jack came up next to his father and pulled put a small velvet box out of his little suit. Hotch took it and opened it for Penelope to see.
She had her own tears, once again, from the purest happiness. She could not believe how much the world had given her recently. How she could go from having her patch family to having a daughter and a family of her own with the man of her dreams. She realized she was taking longer than she should to answer when Hotch's face began to falter.
"Oh, sorry! Yes!" She replied, taking his face between bother of her hands, "yes," she whispered as she placed a peck on his lips again. They were simultaneously smiling and kissing, their faces the epitome of love and contentedness.
When she let go, he took the ring from the box and slipped it on her finger as their friends and family surrounded them, offering their love, support, and more tears.
