CHAPTER 12 – I will survive!
''Just stay here Samantha.. I'm going to get something to drink from the car.. just stay here on the bench''
''You're a worthless piece of shit! No wonder you mother wanted to get rid of you.. it's a miracle she didn't do it earlier!''
''Don't cry Samantha.. Everything's going to be fine.. You know I'll always be right here for you..''
''If you don't do something about the little bitch, I will Tina!''
''I'm not getting paid enough to be stuck with that little brat!''
''You do know it's all your fault Sam.. If you had just listened to him..''
''It's all your fault..''
''obey him..''
''It's really all your fault..''
''all your fault..''
''your fault..''
Sam lay curled up on the floor. Silent tears running over her cheeks. She hadn't moved from where he had nearly killed her..
She hovered between consciousness and unconsciousness. Tormented by memories she had tried so hard to forget.. Pain she had tried so hard not to let it destroy her..
She felt all strength and will to fight the pain leave her body.. ''Wouldn't it just be easier to give up?...'' Sam wondered.
She didn't know if it was just her vived imagination or that she was going crazy when she thought she was seeing Tamara walking towards her. Grandma Tams as she used to call her when she was younger.
The old woman kneeled down next to her and laid a hand on her head, wiping her tears away with her thumb. At this point Sam didn't care if she was going crazy or not.. right now she wanted to relish in the warmth her crazy mind was producing by making her think she was safe again. The warmth the vision of Tamara was bringing her.
She looked up at the old woman, wanting to say so much but not being able to form any words.
Tamara just smiled down at her and with four simple words, took away the pain that had been weighing down on Sam's heart for years. ''I know sweetheart, I know… It's okay..''
Tears started to run freely down her cheeks again. ''Don't go.. please.. don't..go..'' Sam managed to get out. Her voice breaking at the end.
''I cannot stay sweetheart.. This is your fight, and you must end it!'' Tamara said as she held Samantha's hand. ''You cannot give up now..''' Tamara looked very serious now. ''This is bigger than you or me darling.. many lives depend on your strength''
''but.. my magic.. it's gone..'' Sam whispered.
''It's not gone.. it's still inside you.. it'll find a way to break out.. you will find a way'' Tamara smiled again at her.
''Before you give up, remember why you held on for so long'' she whispered the thing she always used to say to say to Sam when she was feeling down.
Tamara leaned down to Samantha.
''Remember, I'm always here.. I'm always by your side, even when you cannot see me..'' she whispered the last sentence in Sam's ear before kissed the top of her head.
Sam closed her eyes, never wanting to let go. She didn't want to be alone again, but she also knew that Tamara was right.. She couldn't give in to that monster… and she wouldn't.
Tamara was right.. she could survive this, she would survive this!
Sam opened her eyes again. Tamara was gone, but at the same time she wasn't. Sam still felt her presence. This brought a slight smile to her face. She knew now that she wasn't alone. Not anymore..
Sam tried to get up from where she lay on the floor, and moved to a corner in the room. She leaned her head against the wall. It was perfect. From this position her body could rest, she could try to think of a plan to get her magic back and kill Pan, and above all.. she could oversee everything happening in the treehouse.. meaning.. she would know when he was back.
The murderous look on his face told everyone to stay away from him. Felix had seen him walking into the woods earlier. He had hoped Pan's anger would've cooled down after spending some time alone, but by the looks of it, this storm wasn't going to move over any time soon.
After ordering some boys to cook dinner for that evening and getting a fire started, Felix sat down on a log, warming himself at the fire. He had deliberately tried to avoid Pan and his anger since he saw him that afternoon. He felt the tension hanging in the air, just as he knew the other boys felt it. With tension nearly visibly hanging in the air like this, the tiniest mistake could cause an outburst of anger from Pan. And he really didn't want be the target of his anger.
Felix looked up at the treehouse. He really wondered what she could have done to get under Pan's skin like that. He felt a tinge of admiration for the girl. After all they had done to her, trying to break her, she hadn't seized to fight back.
He recalled the pained look in her eyes, he saw when they were locked in the cage. She was right about what she said to him earlier.. they had kind of a connection back in the cage.. some sort of weird understanding between the two of them.
Felix also wondered what Pan wanted from her. Pan had been really secretive about his plans with the girl.
Another thougt shot through his head. Without her magic, the girl wouldn't stand a change against Pan's anger. If she had managed to get under his skin like this, he wondered how Pan had left her up there.
His string of thoughts was disturbed when he heard the inevitable happen. He lowered his head sighing.. he could have expected this. He stood up from the log, curious to see who the poor kid was, the kid who was so unlucky to have provocated Pan.
Sam heard loud and excited shouting coming from outside. She scrambled up to her knees, so she could peek through a hole in the wall. It was dark outside, making it difficult to distinguish the various silhouettes outside. But there was one she couldn't miss… Pan. He was stalking towards a Lost Boy lying on the ground, like a lion creeping up on it's prey.
Samantha felt truly sorry for the young boy. She could almost feel the fear vibrating off of him.
By the way Pan was walking circles around the boy, Sam could tell he was in trouble.
Suddenly Pan held a hand straight in front of him, as if grabbing something out of the air. The boy on the ground grabbed towards his throat as if someone was strangling him. Just as Pan did to her.. She still felt the bruises on her neck where he had grabbed her..
Sam held her breath in anticipation, careful not to make a sound and draw attention to herself. A shiver ran down her spine when she saw Pan raising his hand, making the boy also rise up into the air.
From where she was watching she could see the boy trying to choke something out, but she couldn't make out what they were saying.
Pan walked towards where he still held the boy up in the air.. She saw him saying something before making a quick gesture with his arm, slamming the boy with his back against the nearest tree.
The sickening crack she heard next made her gasp out loud. Realising she could have just drawn Pan's attention to herself, she quickly crawled back into her corner, keeping a hand over her mouth. Her eyes wide open as she tried to fathom what she just witnessed.
"did he just kill him?!.. He just KILLED that boy!'' was all that was running through her mind. There were no sounds coming from outside anymore.
She could feel her heart beating in her chest. The sound of her own breath was beating like a hammer in her ears.
The next few minutes were perhaps the longest of her life.. ''He's coming.. He's going to finish it.. he's coming for me..he's coming''
She heard footsteps coming up to the treehouse.
''o my god! She mouthed ''He's coming, he's coming, he's coming'' Her breathing sped up.
''Before you give up, remember why you held on for so long'' Tamara's words came back into her mind.
''No!'' she told herself. ''No, I won't give up, grandma Tamara, I promise!'' A resolute look made place for the fear on her face. She pulled herself together and stood up.
The footsteps were getting louder.
She walked to the middle of the room, waiting for the door to open.
The footsteps stopped.
Whoever was going to come through that door, she wouldn't show him any fear..
The door opened.
..she would show him what's she's really made of.
I hope you guys like this chapter! My inspiration is running a bit low lately, so if you guys have any ideas, they´re most welcome! :D
