So, some back story for y'all. That's bout it. Sorry for the late update, I got busy and had some sort of a social life in that time too. I might not have another update for you guys next week because my brother is moving in and I'm going to a book signing and then I'm pet sitting so yeah.
Jace ran a hand through Clary's long hair, her head pillowed on his chest. They were in her cabin and while the time they spent was not like the night they had spent together on land before Jace had signed his life over to Clary, it was nice and comforting in a way that night hadn't been. That night had been passion and urgency on both ends while this, this simple cuddling of sorts was comforting and nice and it seemed to warm the cold spot in Jace's chest.
"So, do I get to hear the story behind Camille?" Jace questioned. Clary was silent for a few moments, one of her hands trailing a hand across his stomach and up his chest.
"This ship is old. We've had to done some repairs over the years to her. She's been in the family for as long as I can remember." Clary started after taking a deep breath. So much for her need a lot to drink before this story, or maybe she just trusted him enough or something like that.
"My father captained this ship before me, Valentine Morgenstern. He was one of the most ruthless and powerful pirates out there and there are so many stories of his time as captain written in this old ship. He came across another, famous and almost ruthless pirate who had two names. Fairchild and Fray. She was a captain of another ship. It was like a star-crossed lovers situation between them after their first encounter became two and then three and so on.
"She ended up jumping ships almost literately to my Father's. Her ship was crashing and burning and her first mate pushed her off so she would survive and he went down with the ship. So my Mom came to this one and rose through the ranks in her own right rather than being raised because she was sleeping with my Father. They ended up getting married on land, all official and that because it would've been a little odd if he declared them married being the captain and all." She paused and Jace could tell from the wistful tone of voice that she was smiling but also that she was sad because it was obvious that her parents were here anymore because if they were, she probably wouldn't have been captain.
"What was her name?" Jace asked in the silence.
"Jocelyn." Clary told him softly before taking another deep breath. "So they were married and Captain and First Mate, they spun all the tales of the married pirates that everyone wanted to live up to. They were the pirates, they didn't hostages, they looted with a system we still use with little deviations. They were brillant and cunning and a family. They had Seb and Jon few years after they were married. I came a year after them. They looked like Dad, I like Mom.
So we were a pirating family, the only one really to sail the seven seas. I was eleven when it happened. Apparently my mom's old ship had a survivor outside of her. Camille. She had been a cabin boy, born on that ship and served under my mother. She hated the fact, loathed it really, that my mom didn't go down with her ship. She would have but Luke forced her off, it was something she sometimes regretted. So Camille worked her way up onto a ship and rallying a force behind her that would get her close to my mother. It worked and they had stormed the ship in a way it had never been stormed. We always did the storming so it was quite the surprise." Her voice getting thick with unshed tears and Jace tightened his other arm around her.
"They wouldn't surrender and I remember hiding under the steps with my brothers, them holding me back because I wanted nothing more than to go out there and kill her. I didn't exactly have any reserves about killing people back then and I guess I still don't sometimes. Guess growing up as a pirate does that to people. So she killed them both, getting her revenge right there in front of us. I remember flying out from under those stairs and towards them. She was the last person to leave the ship and she just smiled almost mockingly down at me before it turned into a sneer as she realized who I was. She spat down at me and then left.
I will never forget that day nor will I ever forget her and as terrible as it might be and you'd think I'd learn that revenge doesn't solve anything, I want to kill her I want to end her. I want her to pay for what she did but it gets in the way of me being captain and I have to put it aside. I haven't thought about it or her in a few years until we met crossed paths earlier." Clary finished, hand clenched on Jace's chest and Jace removed his hand from her hair and began to rub her hand until she relaxed and twined her fingers with his.
"What gets me though is that she had taken over Bane's ship. I know he did shady work even for pirates. I hope we find him when we hit port but I'm not putting too much faith in that. Bane will only be found if he wants to be." Clary said and Jace could hear the frown in her voice.
"Don't think about it too much. We are still a while away from port and the ship needs you to be a captain." Jace told and her and she nodded.
"You're right." She sighed before curling around him further, one leg resting between his and her head still on his chest. Jace smiled softly, placing a small kiss to her forehead before he settled in further on her bed. It was nice, the laying down and talking and just being with her. Jace had never had something like that before and he surprisingly liked it. It wasn't hot or passionate but comforting and he had a feeling that things were going to change because of it and he wasn't sure if it would be good or bad.
