And i bring you...the last chapter
There's no way Levi could put into words the amount of pride he had in his chest. He sat between a bawling Hanji and a beaming Erwin. Levi struggled himself not to smile. The rest of their friends sat behind him; Erd, Auroro, Petra, and any other idiot that decided to show up. Mikasa and Annie were somewhere too.
He looked to the line of students waiting for their diplomas. Names were called one after another; Jean Kirstein, Marco Bodt, Armin Arlert, Bertholt Hoover, Reiner Braun, et cetera et ceter.a
For each one they cheered from their seats. Ymir was the one to grab her diploma and yell in the mic, "Hell yes I'm out of here bitches!" When Sasha reached the front Hanji sobbed, and Levi couldn't help but laugh.
"Why are you crying?"
"I'm just so happy for them!"
"They're graduating, big whoop."
"Ahh, remember when we graduated?" Erwin laughed, "They were just as excited for us."
She wiped at her nose, "I know but they're our babies Levi! They're all grown up!"
Levi rolled his eyes and looked back up to Eren. He was squirming from his place in line. The brunette reached up and curled a piece of hair behind his ear nervously. It was almost like he could sense Levi's gaze, because he suddenly turned and looked at Levi in the crowd. Levi gave him a reassuring smile and Eren grinned. The younger looked down and thumbed at his engagement ring.
"Eren Jaeger."
Levi and his friends whooped from their seats.
"I'd like to propose a toast!" Hanji stood up and raised an entire Champagne bottle, "Congratulations on freedom!"
The room burst to life; glasses clinked and people laughed and screamed. Levi had a possessive arm around Eren's waist. The younger leaned against him and downed his drink in one swig, "I can't believe it."
"I'm proud of you." Levi nodded.
"Yeah?"
The older gave him a weary look, "What's wrong?"
"Hmm, what?" Eren blinked, "Nothing! I'm ecstatic right now." He grinned. Levi decided to ask again later. Eren looked down thinking what now?
They were all in Erwin's apartment…maybe for the last time. Eren didn't know. But people were throwing streamers and party poppers and music blasted through the rooms. Connie and Sasha were dancing strangely enough to where everyone was watching and laughing.
That was when Eren realized that everything…everyone was still the same. Jean and Marco were still in the corner giggling and tripping over each other drunk as hell. Reiner was doing a line of shots with Ymir and Christa was nursing a bruise on Bertholt's forehead…however that got there. Meanwhile Mikasa and Annie were hammered, running around like idiots. Nothing was different.
Eren felt an immense amount of love for all the people in the room.
The celebration went on- people threw food and tripped and screamed. Eren dragged Levi to dance with him in the kitchen, and a couple people hollered from the other room, watching Erwin turned down the music, everyone settled around the couch, per usual. Four years and they all still huddled around in bean bags and body piles on the floor. They looked to the smallest girl when she spoke;
"Is this…" Christa began to tear up, "Is this the last movie night?"
The room went silent, and everyone exchanged sober glances.
"I never really thought of that…" Armin looked at his shoes.
"Way to trash the mood, "Jean joked.
"Ah, I'm sorry-"
"No. It's not the last one." Reiner crossed his arms. "It can't be."
Connie blurted, "Yeah! I won't allow it. What would I do without you guys?!"
"You would probably get yourself arrested the moment we're out of the picture." Marco giggled.
"I guess people will move away…but I know we can never really go too far from each other." Ymir grinned and wrapped an arm around Christa.
Eren, who was perched on Levi's lap, finally relaxed. That's right…we've been together our whole lives. I wouldn't survive without these people. He felt Levi's hand intertwine with his. We can't survive without each other. How cheesy.
"Well…" Bertholt spoke up, "What should we watch for the last college movie night?"
Auruo yelled from the back, "21 Jump street!"
"Spiderman!"
"The last song!"
"The fuck?"
"Hell no!"
Eren laughed at his friends. Mikasa sighed from beside him, "Idiots."
Armin shrugged, "They're our idiots."
"Okay, well. Whose turn is it?" Erwin was determined to stop the yelling, as he was still kinda drunk.
"Mine." Levi said. Everyone turned to look at him and blinked.
"Have you…did we ever…" Reiner blinked.
"Nope." Levi shimmied Eren off of his lap.
Armin laughed, "In all our movie nights...we never gave Levi a turn. How rude of us!"
"He never spoke up!"
"Yeah it's not our faul-"
"Shut up." Levi rifled through Erwin's collection, "I've got a good one."
The room was quiet and patient as Levi popped in a DVD. He slid back onto the couch and Eren back on top of him.
The title flashed on screen, "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle."
The movie put everyone in an awesome mood. Although, it did result in a mass amount of passed out young adults sprawled about Erwins apartment. Eren was the last one to fall asleep; but he didn't fail to stand up and take pictures of the dead room. Bertholt and Reiner lay on the floor, with Annie using both as a mattress. Erwin was supporting Armin's weight as well as Hanji's, and Levi had his legs tangled up with hers. Bodies littered every visible surface.
Eren crawled back up against Levi, adding his own legs to the knot of people on the couch. He fell asleep instantly.
When he did wake up, it was to the smell of pizza.
There was a kink in his back about the size of a baseball; he sat up to stretch and looked around at the other sleepy adults. Eren heard Gunter mutter from the floor, "Damn, I'm getting too old for this."
"How old are you?"
"27."
"You old shit."
"You're the same age!"
"Nuh huh! I'm a month younger than you."
Eren groaned; it was too early- or too late. He couldn't tell. He suddenly realized that Levi was no longer underneath him.
"Levi?"
"Over here." A voice came from the kitchen. Eren stood up and hopped over Bertholt and bent his way around Petra, being careful not to step on anyone.
He waddled in and saw a few people at Erwin's kitchen table; multiple boxes of pizza sat in the middle.
"Hey babe." Levi pushed his chair back so Eren could sit on his lap. Eren replied sleepily,
"Pizza for breakfast? Alright."
"It's hardly breakfast time." Mikasa smirked, "It's almost one in the afternoon."
A tired Connie yelled from the other room- "Holy shit! Really?"
"Really really." Mikasa called back.
Eren visited the house shared by Jean, Marco, Bertholt and Reiner. He actually visited everyone a lot. As predicted, the group stayed in the general area of California. Although, a couple things had actually changed over the years.
"So whats up?"
Eren shrugged. Jean curled his legs underneath him and watched Marco slaughter Reiner in Halo.
"You have no plans?"
"I think I'll keep working for this director."
"Even though his movies have flopped?"
"Yeah, I think he's got potential." Eren grinned. "If not I have a couple interviews lined up for shit. But what about you man?"
"Ah, I dunno." Jean rested his head in his hand. "Everyone knows that piano teachers don't make money but…"
Eren poked him, "I think you should do whatever you want to do. You love music so do music."
"If only it was that simple." Jean rolled his eyes. "How's Levi?"
"Good." Eren grinned, "Actually great. In the past two years he's really made Scout a major corporation. It's unbelievable."
Jean nodded, "Good, good."
Reiner suddenly stood up and raised his hands in the air, "Are you fucking serious!?"
"I won!" Marco cheered.
Eren laughed; still the same.
"Work fuckin' sucks."
Eren tipped his head back over the armrest and laughed, "Don't say stuff like that, you love your job."
"Hn."
Levi threw his keys on the counter and made a b-line towards Eren on the couch. He collapsed on top of the younger, and Eren let out a half shout, half laugh, "Hey!"
Levi buried his nose into Eren's shoulder, and winced when his nose ring got smashed between them. He still wore it- he was probably going to wear it for the rest of his life. "Ouch." Eren wrapped his arms around the older and moved his knees so they weren't digging into his stomach. "So…" Levi started, "How was your day?"
"Eh, alright." Eren shrugged, "I cleaned stuff, unpacked more stuff, yada yada."
"Exciting."
"Yeah, I know." Eren looked around at their new house. "There's so much more shit to clean now."
"Appreciate it. We practically had to sell our firstborn child to pay for it." Levi's voice was muffled against Eren's shoulder.
"But it's perfect." Eren grinned.
Levi smiled too, "Yeah."
"Also there's this weird wire sticking out of the bathroom socket and I-"
"Don't fucking touch it."
"But-"
"I'll fix it just don't touch anything."
Eren laughed, "You don't trust me?"
Levi rolled his eyes, "You literally cut yourself with a spoon."
"That happened only one time!"
"You are a twenty four year old man." Levi retorted. Eren didn't reply, and so Levi sat up. He supported his head on his forearms that rested on Eren's chest. He held Eren's gaze, "What's wrong? Normally you always have the last word."
Eren looked away, "I'm okay."
"No you're not."
"Levi, I wanna be married already."
The older sighed, and laid his head back down underneath Eren's chin. "We will. Just a few more days."
Eren looked apprehensive, "Yeah?"
"Yeah. It's gonna be rad as hell."
Eren laughed and pulled Levi in for a kiss. The older quickly reciprocated, and pushed out his arms to support his own weight. Eren threaded his hands through Levi's hair and pulled. The older grunted into his mouth and Eren smiled.
Levi immediately took control of the kiss- as he always does. He licked Eren's bottom lip before taking it between his teeth. He slipped his tongue into Eren's mouth and Eren matched him. They had done this so many times that now the two moved together perfectly.
Levi never got tired of pushing up Eren's shirt and watching how his stomach muscles twitched- he never got tired of his soft skin. Eren tried to move things along- he angled his hips upwards, and Levi grinded right back down.
The reception party was less of a reception and more of a giant college reunion. Levi was beginning to regret booking the bar and DJ. It was only two hours in and there were drunk people dancing on the tables. Levi sat in a chair keeping a watchful eye on Eren as he danced with Armin and the rest of his goofball friends. He was easy to spot- white suit and all.
"You sure you still wanna marry that?"
Levi snorted, he didn't have to look up to know the voice. "It's too late now."
Mikasa took a seat next to him at the table and put her head in her hand, "My threat still stands, if you hurt him I hurt you."
"Fair enough." Levi shrugged. He finally sat up and turned to look at her; he gave her a smirk, "What a cute protective sister you are."
"Shut up." She tried to sound angry but couldn't help but laugh. She pushed his shoulder, urging him out of his seat, "Go dance with your husband, dickwad."
Levi gave her an amused look, but decided that pulling Eren out of a drunken conga line would be a good idea.
"Eren… why is the kitchen on fire?"
Eren yelped and spun around to see Levi standing in the doorway with his arms crossed. The brunette was currently battling a fairly large stove fire.
"L-Levi!" Eren stuttered. He turned back around to the fire, trying to put it out, "I- uh, I um-"
"Stand back."
There was a loud whoosh noise, and suddenly half the kitchen counter was covered in white. Once it was safe, Eren watched Levi set down the fire extinguisher with a sigh, "Eren, why."
"I was just trying to cook something, okay?!" Eren huffed, "I totally had that under control."
Levi just stared at the mess before them- the pan was completely destroyed as well as half the stove. "I can see that."
"Don't be so condescending." Eren snapped and crossed his arms, a little embarrassed.
"Well look at our kitchen, Eren." Levi gestured with his arms, "It's a little hard not to be."
Eren sagged his shoulders, feeling a bit defeated. "I just…wanted to cook you dinner."
He tried-oh he tried; but Levi always found it hard to stay mad at Eren for long. He reached for the man's face and turned so that they were eye to eye, "You don't need to do that."
"I do!" Eren retorted. "You always cook and I feel bad because you've been super tired and I know work has been hard for you and I thought that maybe if I had food ready when you got home then you wouldn't be-"
He was cut off as Levi shut him up with a kiss. It was chaste, but it worked. Levi pulled back saying, "Thank you"
Eren sniffed, the smoke burning his eyes a little, "I'm sorry." He was surprised when Levi began to laugh. It was that hardy laugh; the one he does when Eren falls off the couch or accidentally bites into something too spicy.
Levi bent over, hands on his knees, and wheezed, "It's never a dull moment with you."
Eren huffed, but smiled, "Whatever."
"Come on, let's clean this shit up."
"What. The hell. Is this."
A little girl laughed, "Dad that's a bad word."
Eren sniggered, "Are you blind? It's obviously a fort."
"Looks more like a giant mess to me." Levi replied before swiftly walking over and swooping the girl into his arms. "What did you do today Carla?"
"Today daddy taught me how to draw a dragon! I showed it to everyone in my class! "
Levi raised his eyebrows and teased, "Really? Are you even any good at drawing?"
She snorted, "Of course I am! I have daddy's pants."
Levi didn't reply. He looked over to Eren with wide eyes.
Eren bent over, laughing, "She-haha-she means genes."
"How about you show me your dragon? Then we can clean up this horrible mess."
"Okay dad." Levi set her down and she ran into the kitchen.
"Jesus fuck." Levi looked around at the living room, "You two sure did a number on this place." Pillows and blankets were thrown about-it looked like they had dragged the kitchen chairs in as well.
"She said she had math homework and I told her the best way to do math is in a creative environment." Eren grinned.
Levi rolled his eyes and hooked his fingers into Eren's belt loops- pulling him closer. "Well we were definitely creative when I taught you math."
"Damnit Levi she's in the other room!" Eren laughed against Levi's lips. Their kiss was sweet and brief. Levi leaned back to run his fingers through Eren's newly cut hair.
Age had really treated the both of them well. Eren still looked as handsome as ever- his face still set with fiery green eyes. Levi remained the same; he still had that graceful, but deadly aura about him. Although his piercings and choice of dress never changed- he continued to wear combat boots to work.
They parted just as Carla bounced into the room holding her sketchpad she got for Christmas. "Look! I named him Gregory."
"Wow, Gregory is one cool motherfu-"
Eren laughed and elbowed Levi before he could finish. Carla beamed, "I know right! It's my most bestest creation."
Levi snorted and Eren tugged on her extremely curly hair, "How about you go put that back on the fridge and we can go get some tacos. I am definitely feeling Mexican food today."
"Hell. Yes." Levi grinned.
"Yay!" Carla cheered.
"Oh my gosh this is weird."
Christa laughed, "Why do you say that?"
Jean shrugged, "Look at all the kids. Oh man this is really weird."
"I think it's cool- naturally they all get along." Marco smiled and watched as they all ran around the park. The adults sat in the grass, supervising. Of course Connie and Sasha were out there with them, pushing kids on swings and rolling around in the grass.
"That certainly is a large amount of troublemakers." Reiner laughed heartily.
"You know…" Armin started, "It's really awesome."
"What is?"
Armin smiled, curled up against Erwin's side. "That they're all going to grow up together having friends. They're never going to feel alone or left out or that they don't belong."
"Just like we were!" Christa laughed and spread out her arms.
"Damn you guys are cheesy as fuck." Jean snickered and Marco punched him in the shoulder.
Connie and Sasha approached the group, panting. Connie sighed, "I'm getting too old for this."
"You are never too old for fun," Bertholt smiled.
Connie snorted, "Tell that to my back."
"You aren't even old, shut up." Erwin rolled his eyes. "Come back to me when your argument is valid." There was universal laughter, and Connie pouted.
Ymir looked out at the children with a weary expression, "You know they're all going to be hungry soon."
Levi snorted, "It's a good thing we brought a fuck ton of lunchables."
I guess you could say that the three of them were an odd pair. A gay couple with an adopted girl from Africa- they were a strange family but a perfect one.
Levi was excellent at scaring the shit out of onlookers- it only took one glare and the bystanders would scatter. He still remembered the months of arguing over whether or not they should raise a kid. Eren wanted nothing more in the world but…Levi was nervous. He wasn't that good with brats…but Eren promised to be at his side always. And he was right…children are the greatest.
"Carla when I find you I swear I'm going to-"
Beep Beep
"Gotcha dad!"
"Son of a bitch!" Levi dashed behind a wall and waited for his gun to come back online. He looked across the small room to see Eren holding his gun to his face, holding his breath. His eyes widened when he saw Levi crouch down next to him.
"Are you hit?" Eren whispered.
Levi nodded, "She's too strong."
"Damnit." Eren swore, "We raised her too well."
Suddenly the girl hopped out in front of them, and tagged both easily with the laser gun. "You guys are so loud!"
Both adults yelled and scattered away from her as she chased them throughout the course. Carla laughed maniacally, "You can run but you can't hide!"
When Eren actually had the time to sit and contemplate life, it was when the sun just barely starting to rise. He'd sit on the couch next to the window with coffee, watching how the sky would turn colors.
He'd never really thought his life would turn out like this.
Well…shit was stressful. Medical scares, arguments, money problems, work issues, even more arguments. But…Eren was just lucky enough to see every problem work out in the end. The beach trips, the crazy adventures, the movie nights; they never stopped. The tradition passed on- the kids even started their own movie night. Meanwhile the adults still huddled in Erwin's house, laughing like they did years ago.
Life was awesome.
"I don't understand how you wake up so fucking early." Levi clicked on the light to the kitchen. Eren whipped his head around, and breathed out a laugh. He slumped back up against the window.
"Did I wake you up?"
"Yeah." Levi reached in the fridge, "I rolled over and I didn't have a snuggle buddy."
"Wow, I never thought I'd see the day you say snuggle buddy."
"I'm seriously fucking serious, man." Levi pulled out a carton of orange juice. "Shit's cold in there."
"C'mere then." Eren gestured. Levi set the carton on the table and crawled next to Eren on the couch. Eren leaned against his chest and the older wrapped an arm around him. They both looked out the window as the sun finally peeked out behind the mountains.
"You know….I love you."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
"Good, I love you too."
