After, what felt like, several hours Lois concluded that the air outside the cave was just as warm and putrid as within and decided it was time to face the consequences of a night on crazy-world berries.
She shyly made her way back inside, shielding her naked frame as best she could until she reached the inner mouth of the cavern and noticed a blanket left for her.
Wrapping the tough material about herself, Lois made her way into the living area, inhaling a fruity scent.
She came upon Clark, bent over an open fire and pinching what passed as bread out of the heat with hisses of pain.
"What's cookin', good-lookin'?" She said before she could stop herself.
"Lois!" Clark gasped, slapping the food-stuff down on the floor.
Taking a breath, Lois managed a huff, "There's just you and me out here in this little grey nowhere land Clark. How could you be startled?"
"I've been waiting..." he said, before drifting off into insecurity.
"Yeah," she found herself apologising, "I needed some air."
"Air," Clark nodded, subconsciously rubbing his palms across his jeans, "Right. Thought you just needed to get away from me."
The statement was followed by a nervous laugh.
Lois found herself unable to answer.
Clark didn't seem able to accept the silence and clapped his hands together, "Well... breakfast!"
The swirl of her stomach made her hand fly out automatically waving away the suggestion, "I'm good."
"You are." Clark confirmed, before startling... "I mean... you are?"
Lois couldn't help the glare as she replied, "You'd better believe it."
Clark smiled that annoying – I'm just cute joe-farmer guy... can't be angry at me – smile.
There was still a rather large elephant in the room... and Lois, being Lois, wasn't going to let it get any bigger.
"So," she began, losing some of her confidence as Clark turned to face her, "last night."
Seeming relieved, Clark left his 'cooking' and swiftly made his way to her with an eager, "Yeah."
"It was fun..." Lois hedged.
Clark half-huffed, "Yeah... and the rest... I mean you're..." he drifted off as he met her gaze. "Well..."
Lois waited.
"It's all, actually, kind of a blur," he admitted.
What?
"We had sex," she said, a little more sarcastically than she had meant to.
"I know." Clark said, looking strikingly like a rabbit cornered by a hungry black bear. "I was there... mostly."
"So..." Lois panicked, "are you telling me that it was a mistake."
"No!" Clark looked alarmed.
"Then what?"
"I wish I could have done it properly." Clark blurted.
The silence in the cave was disturbed only by the rushing blood in Lois' ears. "What?"
"You and me," Clark tried to explain, "It shouldn't have happened like that."
"Gee Clark," she said, folding her arms against the feeling her heart might fall out, "I hadn't realised you had thought about the ins-and-outs so damned much."
The farm-boy blushed and admitted, "I think about you more than I should."
For once, Lois found herself speechless.
"And I have kissed you before." He shrugged, "I just wanted this time to be... well, the first time to be..."
Lois found herself squirming. "Thanks for the thought, but this aint my first rodeo, Cowboy. Think I can handle the unexpected...ness." She smiled slightly, "I appreciate the thought though."
The pair continued to fidget, feeling further away from eachother than they had been for so long...
"So," Clark broke the silence, "Should we just forget it ever happened?"
"Thought you said you didn't remember that much anyway."
He looked guilty, "I may remember more that I was letting on."
Lois felt her arms wind about herself in some form of protection. "Right. Well, do you want to forget it ever happened?"
"No."
"Good."
There was that damned silence again!
"Well, let's just agree to keep the berries in moderation."
"Ok." Clark grinned.
"And, if you can keep your hands to yourself for tonight-"
"My hands!" Clark protested.
"Then we're going to be ok."
Clark bit his lip and breathed slowly. "Whatever happens between us, Lois. I will always be there for you." Then his eyes met hers and she was in no doubt of his sincerity, "No matter what."
She couldn't help the smile. "No matter what."

Then followed close to a fortnight of straight storms. Great electric spasms from sky to earth filled the barren horizon as winds battled rain and sheer ice stabbed deeply into the ground.
Lois couldn't remember a time so bleak as she shuddered to sleep each night, tight in Clarks strong arms. Hunger was a constant and after the first ten nights the pair of them were becoming ripe.
When the weather finally cleared and what passed as sun made an appearance, there was no chance Clark was keeping her cooped up in the cave.
Taking themselves to the nearest crimson lake, they each stood watch while the other washed out their clothes and bathed quickly in the freezing watery liquid.
And still, there was something else playing on her mind.
Clark served dinner that night; he had managed to catch a large rodent creature and cut it into shop-like filets to go with some green-purple like plants Lois had gathered after the consistent rain on the sandy land.
Clark served up the main meal and smiled as he took the first bite.
There was no time better, so Lois took a breath and announced, "Clark, I think I'm late."
She watched the man gulp and place his food to the side. "What?"
"How long would you say we've been here?" She queried, "I know the days and nights aren't the same as home but there has been a certain passage of time. I would say at least two months."
Clark thought about this and, while mulling it over, listened as Lois continued.
"And while the moon is said to have certain ways with cycles, there is one thing I can guarantee. I have not had a period."
Clark felt a small jolt snap up his body, "Well... things are different here, Lois."
"It's nature, Clark."
"Nature doesn't mean two suns and red water."
There was a part of him that knew that he should be comforting her through the panic she was experiencing, but all brain functions were refusing to cooperate.
A dad.
Clark Kent – Daddy...
"No," Clark breathed.
Lois gawked at him. "Do you see another man round here I slept with?"
Clark blinked, looking to Lois. "I didn't mean..." he began, breathing his frustration out before trying again. "I meant that I don't want my child raised here."
Lois blinked, "What?"
Clark stood. "I have to find a way out."
And with that, he left the cave.
