A month had passed by since the party and Fitz had not heard from Olivia since then. He couldn't completely blame her, for the simple fact that he had yet to break things off with Mellie… completely at least. The next day after the party Fitz had told Mellie he needed a break. Of course this was Mellie, so it wasn't as easy as he thought it would be. Though they were not with each other physically, as much, Mellie would still constantly text Fitz. In his eyes, it was as if she did not understand the meaning of a break.

With some space in his apartment now and time to think for himself, Fitz thought of how he would actually break up with Mellie. The only reason he stayed with Mellie was in all honestly due to his father. They were never in love, but though that was the case, they were at the least good friends. He knew he had to go about this correctly. There was also his father that he needed to worry about as well. His father was always over bearing and constantly interfering with Fitz's plans for his life. Fitz had his entire life planned out by his dad. He went to all the elite private schools in California, grades had to always be the very best, attended all the fancy shin digs, and never really enough time to just be a normal kid. Fitz really had no time for fun as child, since his father was senator of California. Fitz graduated high school with honors and was accepted to George Washington on a full academic scholarship. The plan after college was to take a stint in the Navy, then off to Harvard Law. After law school he would take some time working in a firm and after one or two years there it would be time to start prepping for his political career. Fitz's dad known as Big Jerry, knew quite a lot of people in high power, so it would not be too hard to get Fitz to become governor of California. Though this life plan seemed like a dream to some, it just wasn't what Fitz had in mine. He actually didn't know exactly what he wanted to do, but it definitely wasn't becoming President of the United States. Fitz was always known as the sensitive one in his family. Always putting the cares of others before him. His father saw it as weakness and felt Fitz wouldn't make it very far had he kept acting that way.

In actuality Fitz wasn't who his father really intended to become president. It was his older brother Theodore Grant. Big Jerry saw Theodore or "Teddy" as the more assertive one and had more leader attributes than did Fitz. Teddy didn't have as much care towards others feelings as did Fitz. It wasn't that Teddy was cold hearted like his father, he just knew what he wanted and wouldn't let the way people felt get in his way. Theodore passed away when Fitz was 15 years old. Teddy had died in a car accident when he was 18. He and a group of friends were headed back from a road trip one summer when a drunk driver hit his side and he died on impact. Fitz was heart broken that his best friend was gone out of his life and was highly devastated. He was always getting compared to his brother, thanks to his fathers, but it didn't take away from the love he had from him. Teddy was like a role model for Fitz and they had done just about everything with each other growing up. When Teddy died, he shut out from everyone and kept to himself. His father immediately made preparations for his next son in line to get ready to one day become leader of the free world. Big Jerry told Fitz to be a man and come out of this depressing state. He stated that death was apart of life and he needed to move on like Teddy would want him to. Of course every president needs a wife, so when Fitz was a senior in high school, his father introduced him to Mellie. Fitz's father had been friends with Mellie's dad since childhood. From time to time Fitz would see Mellie at political dinners throughout the years. He was never interested in her and only entertained the idea of being romantic with her because of his father's ridiculous plan. It was time for Fitz to make some changes in his life and stop being controlled by Big Jerry.

Fitz sat in his living room and dialed Mellie's number. He would let it ring once then hang up. He repeated this about five times before he actually went through with it.

"Hey Fitzy!" Are you ready to end this charade and come see me?! You know what, I'll let you have this break. I mean we have the rest of our lives together! I wish you would just hurry and propose already! We both know what our parents want. Oh and I want you to help me find a dress for your father's dinner next month at the ranch. I'm so excited to go back to Cali -

"Mellie!" Fitz boomed. Mellie was rambling and Fitz really wanted to get this conversation over with.

"Look Mellie, I need you to talk to you." "I think it's best if I do this in person though." Mellie may have been seen as the ice lady to many, but she still had a heart and out of respect Fitz felt it was best to talk to her in person.

"What exactly are we telling about Fitzgerald?" Mellie asked.

"Just let me come to your apartment and explain ok"

"Um OK, I guess that's fine then Fitz."

"OK I'll be over in 10." he said.

Fitz drove over to Mellie's apartment in record time. Excited that he was able to move on from this part of his life. That was until he got to Mellie's front door. He was hesitant and felt a hint of sadness come upon him. Mainly for the fact that for 4 years he had gotten so accustomed to being with her. He never really thought about what it meant to really be in love with someone that is until he met Olivia Carolyn Pope.

Fitz knocked on Mellie's door and she quickly opened the door and pulled him into a hug.

Fitz pulled away from Mel and stood closer to the door. "Hey Mellie"

"Fitz I am so glad you finally came to your senses!" replied Mellie.

"Mellie, we need to talk, right now."

"Ok Fitz say what you have to say so we can go pick out my dress for your father's dinner"

"Mellie, you and I will not be attending that dinner together"

"Excuse me Fitzgerald?!"

"Mellie, let's sit down, ok?" said Fitz.

"No, you repeat what you said just now, with an explanation please!" she shouted

"Ok, well look, I have been thinking about this for some time now, and I am not in love with you Mellie, and we need to break up, officially."

"Fitz, I told you I would give you all the space you needed, ok honey?" Mellie replied in her fake sweetest tone

"No, Mellie, this isn't just about space, this is about you and I being done for good.I am done living my life by my father's orders. You and I both know this was just some deal for our fathers and not an honest and loving relationship."

"Don't you want to be happy?" asked Fitz

"I am happy, with you I am happy Fitz! Where is this all coming from? We were comfortable."

"That's just it Mellie, we were just comforting one another, because we never knew what true love looked like. If we got married it would just be some twisted love and giving our children a skewed vision of what marriage really is. I don't know about you, but I don't want to live my life living lies."

"I am sorry, and I will always care for you, but this is it Mellie, it's over".

"You would be foolish to think I would just accept this so easily Fitz. This will not be over!" Whoever you met, whoever is making you feel these temporary feelings, will be gone soon, and I will be here waiting for you to crawl back right into my lap. So, go ahead, and find "true love". Politics isn't a fairytale, when you wake up and see reality for what it really is, I will be here."

"Goodbye Mellie." With that, Fitz walked towards the door and left. He leaned his head back against Mellie's hard, cold door, similar to a description of what Mellie was truly like inside.

He finally walked away and headed into his car to drive home. Fitz felt good, really good. He finally dealt with Mellie and knew soon enough he would have to deal with the repercussions from Big Jerry.

Fitz had his windows down, and was blasting the radio with some old school r&b tunes. He decided that instead of going home, he would head to the campus library and relax his mind a bit. He wanted so badly to call Olivia, but he didn't want to give Olivia the impression that she was a rebound. Olivia was far from a rebound in Fitz's eyes, but it just would not seem right if he immediately tried to start something new with Olivia, after just breaking up with Mellie. Fitz was serious when he told Olivia that they would be good friends. He wanted to develop a strong friendship with her that would hopefully, sooner than later lead to a long lasting relationship.

He got out of his car and grabbed a few textbooks from his trunk and headed towards the library. As he reached his destination, he saw Olivia sitting in the front of the library. He had a huge smile on his face that quickly faltered as he saw Jake sitting rather closely to Olivia. Fitz was boiling inside with jealously and anger. He should have known Olivia wouldn't wait for him. He had taken quite a while to break things off with Mellie. On the other hand though, Fitz was still equally angry at the fact that she continued to hang around Jake, even though he told her the kind of guy that Jake was. Jake was an asshole, and there was just no way around.

Fitz gradually made his way towards the two of them and stopped directly in front of Olivia.

"Fitz…" Olivia said breathlessly. He looked so gorgeous today. His curls were a bit longer, he had a five o clock shave. Fitz was wearing a dark green sweater, that showed all the details of his biceps. Olivia could feel herself heating up with thoughts of what occurred between the two, just a month ago at the house party.

"Hello Olivia" replied Fitz in a curt tone. He licked his lips subconsciously as he checked Olivia out. Though he was pretty upset with Olivia in this moment, he couldn't help but admire her beautiful figure. Olivia was wearing an all black v-neck, that hung low enough to give Fitz a little view of her cleavage and she was wearing dark blue skinny jeans and red chucks. Her hair was up, and in a messy bun, which Fitz was completely loving.

"What are you doing here?" They asked at the same time.

Olivia answered first, "well Jake and I are just here prepping for the debate club."

"Ok, well I will just let the two of you get back to work… alone."

Fitz started to walk away when Olivia called out his name.

"Fitz! Wait!"

Fitz just continued walking, acting like he didn't hear what Olivia was saying. He was walking so fast that Olivia wasn't able to catch up to him. He hopped in his car and sped off.

Well Fitz is obviously upset, does he have a right to be? What's really going on with Olivia and Jake? Well now we know some more about Fitz and his past. You all will get some more on Olivia soon and some more Olitz interaction I promise! Of course that is not the last of Mellie. I won't have tooooo much Mellie and Jake in this story though. Leave me with some reviews please! Let me know if I should continue!
