Hermione groaned in her sleep. Why did her neck hurt so much? Reluctantly, she sat up and had to cover her mouth to keep from laughing. The four of them had fallen asleep in the library, heads stuck in books. Ginny's long, fiery hair was draped messily over Draco's face while his soft breaths made the loose locks fly up and then fall down again. Harry's head clashed against Ginny's outstretched arm and his glasses were falling off his face on one side. Hermione desperately wished she had a camera to capture the moment.
Carefully, she leaned forward and took off Harry's glasses, placing them next to his head. Then, she softly brushed Ginny's hair off Draco's face. Despite her gentleness, he stirred in his sleep and then woke up.
"What happened?" he asked drowsily.
"We fell asleep in the library!" she giggled.
"Oh god." Draco said, rolling his eyes. He sat up and stretched out his arms, "Did we discover anything last night?"
"Not that I can remember."
"We should wake them up." Draco said, pointing to Harry and Ginny.
"No, let them sleep. They look cute!"
Draco rolled his eyes again before saying that he was going back to his common room to change his clothes. Hermione watched him leave, noticing how mechanically he walked. She desperately wished he would let some light in. Anytime something good happened, he closed himself off and walked away. She looked down, there was nothing she could do.
Draco walked away from the library quickly. What kind of fuzz ball had he become? Falling asleep in a library with three Gryffindors. He was walking when suddenly something grabbed his arm and pulled him into an empty corridor. Before he could see who it was, the person smashed her lips against his. His eyes widened and he tried to push her away to no avail. Finally, she released him.
"Pansy?" he said incredulously.
"Hi, Draco!"
"What the hell are you doing?"
"I was saying hello" she said innocently.
He was shocked. How could he respond to that? Thankfully she continued talking, "I'm glad you're back, I missed you! It was so hard to tell your father to come get you but you were corrupted, you needed help!"
Draco felt his brain explode and through clenched teeth he said, "What?"
She looked at him proudly, "Yup! I called your father! I'm so happy you're back! Did he fix you?"
Draco had never met a dumber girl in his entire existence. This girl was the reason his mother was dead? Because this little idiot thought he was corrupted? He glared at her, "Do you have any idea what the fuck you did?"
She looked a little confused now, "Um…"
"YOU HAVE NO IDEA, DO YOU? MY FATHER USED THE CRUCIATUS CURSE ONE ME SO MANY TIMES THAT I COULDN'T TELL WHICH WAY WAS UP AND WHICH WAY WAS DOWN! HE KILLED MY MOTHER BECAUSE YOU CALLED HIM HERE. IT'S. ALL. YOUR. FAULT." he yelled at her.
Her mouth fell open, "I had no-"
"Shut up just shut up!" he turned away from her and ran out of the corridor and back to his common room. He never liked Pansy Parkinson but he never, ever thought that she was the reason his mother was dead. He climbed into his bed and put the pillow over his head, breathing heavily. He hated her so much, oh so much. How could she? Draco stayed in his bed for the next few hours, not crying but mourning, processing, understanding. He stayed in his bed for the next few hours while his already broken heart fractured into oblivion.
After Draco left the library, Hermione stayed a little longer reading. Last night they had scoured all over the library and put every useful looking book on the table. There must have been at least forty thick, dusty books on the table and they had only gotten through about ten before they fell asleep. She decided to browse through the rest while she waited for Harry and Ginny to awaken.
She found herself reading a book on the time turner.
"The time turner is a very nifty piece of magic. It allows a witch or wizard to turn back time to fix mistakes of the past. While it is an extraordinary piece, it is also extraordinarily difficult to obtain. Only very few worthy witches and wizards have ever possessed one due to the dangers it can cause to the present. One little misstep in the past can change out entire present. While useful, the time turner only allows a witch or wizard the ability to turn back time up to eight hours. You may not turn time forward with this device."
She sighed, while she knew Voldemort did not plan to get his youthful body back using the time turner, it was still a possibility. Mentally she ruled it out before continuing to read.
"The time turner is not a wizard's only means to turn back time. While it is a lost item, the Glass of Years is a powerful device. The Glass of Years was lost in 1864 after the witch Genevieve Fell used it to try and resurrect her young son who died when she accidentally let him drown. Legend has it that Genevieve was watching him play in the river when he wandered too deep and began to drown. She was too slow to save him and she began to go insane after his death. She then set off to find the Glass of Years to fix her mistake. But, magic of resurrection is unnatural and wrong. The combination of dark magic and the Glass of Years was too much and Genevieve Fell died. No one knows where she left the magic item. The Glass of Years is different from the time turner because it has dials in which you can insert the exact date and time you wish to travel to. Like the time turner, you can only take it into the past. If this item is ever found, great consequences will ensue should it be placed in the wrong hands."
Hermione shivered uncomfortably. What an evil device the Glass of Years seemed to be! Maybe that was what Voldemort intended to use to rewind time. But how would he find it? It has been lost since 1864. She shook her head, there were so many questions and so little answers. Hermione was about to read more when she saw Ginny waking up.
"Good morning, Gin."
"Hermione? Did we fall asleep here?"
"Yup."
"Oh…Did you find anything?"
"I think so. Wake up Harry, get ready, eat breakfast, and then we'll find Draco and I'll tell you what I found
Ginny nodded and then Hermione left the library to follow her own instructions. After getting ready and eating breakfast she looked all over for Draco with Harry and Ginny.
"Where could he have gone?" she asked.
"No idea. Draco does whatever he wants to do." Harry responded.
"Well I guess—Draco!" Hermione cried, seeing him walking slowly towards the Great Hall.
Some people looked up, surprised to see Hermione Granger calling to Draco Malfoy but she ignored them and ran up to him.
"Draco!" she panted, catching up to him, "I think I found something!"
He looked at her sadly, "Pansy killed my mother."
Hermione looked at him, biting her lip, "Are you okay?"
"Yes."
"What do you mean she killed your mother?"
"It's all her fault."
She took his hand, "Come on, we can all talk together." She led him back to Harry and Ginny and they all walked to an empty classroom and sat down.
"Draco, why don't you go first?" Hermione said, hesitantly.
"Pansy Parkinson told my father I was 'corrupted' and that's why he came to the school to get me and that's why my mother is dead." he practically spat.
Hermione was shocked. Pansy was always an idiot but how could she do something like that? She got Draco tortured and his mother killed. She felt so much pain for him that her heart hurt, "Oh my god. Why would she tell your father to come here?"
"She thought she was helping me. I hate her so much. I hate her so much. I hate her so much."
"I'm so sorry, Draco." Hermione said, her shoulders drooping, "Pansy was never too smart she-"
"STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR HER!"
Hermione looked at him sadly, "I'm sorry."
Now he just looked deflated, "It's okay. What did you discover?"
With one more sad glance at him she explained everything she knew about the Glass of Years and Genevieve Fell.
Ginny shivered and looked up, "That's such a creepy story! You think Voldemort wants to find this Glass of Years and use it to get his youthful body back?"
Hermione nodded, "Yes, I do. But, I have no idea how he intends to find it! 1864 was a very long time ago."
"I think there's a good possibility that this is his plan." Draco said, speaking for the first time since she gave her explanation, "Ginny, Harry, you two should go to Dumbledore and tell him everything. Me and Hermione will go to the library and get all that we can on the Glass of Years."
Harry nodded and led Ginny out the door, towards Dumbledore's office.
"Come on, Hermione. Let's go."
She nodded and followed him out the door to the library. When they got there he asked her to lead him to the book she got all the original information from.
"Here it is." she turned around and noticed that he was gone, "Draco?"
She turned around and jumped a little when she found him in front of her, "What are you-?"
Before she could finish he used both of his hands to cup her face and then kissed her. She was so surprised she had no idea how to react. Why was he kissing her? Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. Finally she gave in and kissed him back. Hermione felt like she could stay there for an eternity. Unmoving, suspended in bliss. This was heaven.
The tall man waved his wand, "Come forth spirits! I call to you, Genevieve Fell! I, Lord Voldemort call to you! Come forth now!"
Voldemort smiled when a translucent spirit materialized in front of him.
"My name is Genevieve Fell. Why do you call to me?"
