Disclaimer: I don't own any of the Harry Potter characters except the ones I created. This story is fiction. Blah Blah Blah. Lets get on with it.

A/N: Sorry it took so so so long to update. I have no excuses but I was never happy with how the chapter came out and kept trying to rewrite it. I also tried to simplify it but it never really worked out. I finally gave up and took time away from it. Then one thing led to another and I never got back into it. I started thinking about it lately and decided to post the chapter since I don't think I will really ever be happy with it. Enjoy.

Harry was amazed by just how beautiful this place was. Never before had he seen anything like it. The trees were incredibly tall, towering over creeks, rivers, and boulders the size of cars. There were reds, greens, blues, whites, yellows, orange and many other colors Harry did not even know that names of. A paradise Something only dreamt of. It was

"A sanctuary," a soft voice whispered.

'Yes,' Harry thought. That was exactly what it looked and felt like. There was peace here. A refuge. He turned around to smile at his twins. They were just as magnificent and they had created this place. He was awed. His words jumbled as he tried to ask all the questions filling his mind. The only word to make it past his lips was, "How?"

Kai smiled. He knew Harry wanted to know everything he could but it would be hard to explain. He turned to face his sister. She nodded.

"It is best understood if we start at the beginning, Harry," Kyi said softly.

"Although, the beginning of our story started so very long ago," Kai mentioned before continuing, "Our past is not easily told and not easy to understand. It is filled with…"

Kai paused. It was difficult to explain. Harry was still a child in comparison. Would he understand and overlook the worst of their acts? Sensing her brother's turmoil, Kyi chipped in with, "butterflies, rainbows and all things shiny."

Kai offered his sister a small smile. He knew she was trying to alleviate the weight of their past from his mind. Regardless of what Harry decided, there was nothing left to do but tell the truth and hope that he would be gracious enough to understand and not judge them for a history of pain and violence. Granted much was not their fault but they had been the cause of the problem. Perhaps Harry would see that in much the same way, the three of them had that in common. Kyi smiled back.

Harry frowned as he looked at his twins. He had noticed the pause and the attempt to ease the tension. He didn't just sense slight reluctance. Rather, he also sensed that they were afraid that he would not understand them. He was not foolish to think that they have lived such a long time with such power and had never done something immoral or wrong. He had lived for a breath of theirs and he was prone to dark thoughts and rash mistakes that often ended with gaping emotional wounds inflicted on others. Theirs was not a story for children, he understood that. And he was determined to understand them.

"Please," Harry whispered. He wanted to know. Always, he had been sheltered from harsh honest words in a misguided attempt to protect the innocence he always felt he had since lost. Life was a game and fate liked to play dirty. It was about time he learned the rules to break them all.

Harry smiled. With more confidence he said, "Please. I would like to know. I don't want to be left in the dark any longer."

Kai's eyes softened. He had known the frustration of not knowing all that was waiting out there. Had he known, maybe their past wouldn't have been so tragic. He said, "Then let us start now."

Kyi and Kai immediately moved back towards balcony doors. Harry made a move to follow when he finally realized that nothing had blurred. He reached up to touch his face. He vaguely remembered losing his glasses in the attack but it hadn't dawned on him that he had been seeing just fine without them. He turned his head to look back at the landscape. It was getting darker but everything was still so clear. It was amazing to be able to notice the details, the texture, and the colors. Moving to touch the balcony doors, he was amazed to find that what he thought to be smooth tile was actually stained glass. It made sense as the colors were always being reflected. He was so dazzled by the clarity that it took a few more seconds to ask himself how it was possible to see that well.

"Wait," he called out to the twins. "Everything is clear."

The twins, who had been moving to sit by the table, paused mid-step to turn around. Frowning in confusion, they silently watched as Harry waved his had in front of his eyes. He would then stop and cover one eye. In a few seconds, he would smile and cover the other eye. It made him happier and he repeated the process a few more times. As Harry had made no intention of clarifying his statement, the twins turned to look at each other.

Turning his head to the side to examine Harry, Kai stepped towards the boy. "Is everything okay," he asked.

Harry's only reply was to start blinking rapidly. Starting to worry, Kyi made her way over to Kai.

Leaning towards his sister, Kai asked, "Do you think we broke him?"

Wide eyed, Kyi whispered back, "Well we did use a lot of power so there may be a possibility."

Kai sighed. "Humans should come with manuals."

"No. Humans we know," Kyi replied. "Harry, on the other-hand, should have come with some kind of instructions it would seem."

Harry froze. He had been so concentrated in blinking that he hadn't answered when his twin had started talking. He had heard every word, however. With a small playful glare he turned to them and said, "I heard that."

The twins grinned at him. Smiling back sheepishly, Harry asked, "Can you tell me why I can see so well now?"

Kai gasped, feigning horror. It was soon followed by a "whoops" and "well darn." Kyi burst out laughing. Both of them shrugged innocently and smiled before another fit of giggles raked through them. Harry watched them with a wry smile.

As the giggles died down, Kai finally explained, "When we healed you earlier, we must have healed you a little too well."

Kyi just offered up a smile and said, "At least you don't need glasses now. Woo to the little things!"

Harry laughed. He had resigned himself to see nothing but blurs, even with his glasses. It was amazing not to need them and not to feel the strain of his eyes when they tried to focus on something. "Is it permanent," he asked.

The twins had already moved to take a seat on one of the tables closest to the wall across from the doors. He moved to sit with them at the table.

"It may be," Kyi said. Kai worried his lip before asking, "Is that a problem?"

Harry shook his head. "Not at all. Rather brilliant actually."

The twins smiled before looking down. Hesitantly, they looked at him. Harry knew things were about to get serious as the knots in his stomach started to become known. Rather than focus on the silence that was lingering as they all tried to stall for time before skeletons were revealed, Harry focused on what was in front of him.

There was a large space between two tall bookshelves about 8 ft wide. Above a smaller bookshelf that was about 3ft high. Harry noticed that this space was empty, whereas every other wall had bookcases, shelves, ornaments, or some intricate detail. This space was plain.

"We have made it invisible. The ornaments on that wall," Kai said, breaking the silence.

Startled, Harry managed a small oh. He turned to look at Kai, waiting to see if he would elaborate as to why it was hidden.

Kai took a deep breath. Harry felt power rise and settle almost instantly. Behind him the balcony doors closed. Turning, he saw that no one had been there to do it. Glancing at Kyi, Harry is speechless when she simply grins and winks at him. No words had been said. No action had been taken. And yet, the doors couldn't have closed on their own volition.

Harry was pulled out of his musings when the twins moved. Sitting on opposite sides of the table, both lifted their hands. Kyi motioned outwards with her left hand, while Kai motioned downwards with his right. Harry gasped as the blank space on the wall started to be filled with hundreds of little plaques. One was set in the middle and the rest spiraled outwards.

Except for the first plaque of the spiral, the rest were in sets of two. Even with the distance between him and the wall, Harry could see the intricate detail of each plaque and no two were the same. They were beautiful. He thought absentmindedly how he had used the word beautiful too many times since he woke up here.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Kai rise from his seat and moved towards the wall. Reaching up to touch the plaques reverently, Kai sighed. Keeping his eyes on the wall, he whispered, "These plaques, Harry, are a representation of our lives. Of our parents."

Kai let the words linger as he held still. They needed Harry to understand what they were before he could know who they were. Slowly he turned and looked at Harry in the eyes. "Each and every plaque is a tribute and acknowledgement to each parent we have had throughout the course of our many lives."

Harry stared back. He had been about to speak to confirm that he had heard directly when Kai had first mentioned "lives", as in more than one. But hearing it a second time, he knew that he wasn't mistaken. At a loss for words, Harry asked simply, "How many?"

Kyi smiled. "Rather than ask how that is possible, you ask how many lives?"

Harry nodded. It had seemed as good a question as any. "I will get to the 'how is that possible' bit that you are expecting in a minute but I would like to hear the answer to this one question."

Kyi turned away from him to look at the plaques. "There have been many…though we did not live long in more than half. Either from the intention of others or our own, life was cut short only to begin again."

Harry crinkled his forehead in confusion. It didn't make sense. How had their life been cut short if they were standing right in front of him? "To begin again." Those words meant something, but all Harry could reason was that they died only to live again..born again…many parents…oh.

"It's starting to sink in slowly, isn't it?"

Harry turned back to look at Kai, who was still standing by the plaques. "Perhaps it would be best to start at the beginning. You both know what the other is talking about but I'm rather clueless."

Kai nodded and moved back to take his seat. After adjusting himself on the cushion to the right of Harry, Kai lifted his hands and tiny orbs of light started to take form in front of him. "Some visual aid to help you understand our story," he offered.

Kyi reached out, creating her own orbs of light. "Let us tell you a story, Harry," she said softly. "It is important to understand exactly what we are and how we came to be. To truly know how it was that we were eventually created."

Harry swallowed. He nodded after quieting his stomach a bit.

Kai's melodic voice began, "A long long time ago, back to when the earth was younger and everything was different, and there lived a being that most have heard of but have never seen. All creatures experience his power and all succumb to it in the end. With no end and a beginning not even known to us, this creature roamed the skies and land for what you all call centuries. Years, months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds were meaningless to him. For he is the epitome of your existence. You know you exist because you have a past and a beginning. A life measured in time. Alas, that is what we call him. Father Time.

Time is mysterious and although most claim to have a real sense of the word, few rarely do. He is more than just seconds and minutes. He is extremely powerful, Harry. He is ancient and magnificent. His power stems from the timeline of everything. The knowledge he possesses is beyond what we can comprehend. He knows all events, past and present, and he guards the order of those events. He is neutral and does not interact in the affairs of men. He is not moved by either side in times of war. He watches and he allows destinies to emerge. He is not, however, cruel. He realizes that one must want to play an active part in his own destiny and so he allows for several contingencies. Your decisions define and shape your destiny every bit as fixed events do. But that is a tale for another time."

Harry watched fascinated as a figure was shaped by the lights. Dark somber colors outlining a man appeared, if you can call him that, and he stared transfixed to see what Time looks like. But as soon as the image was starting to clear, it was split in two as if someone had reached and parted the lights. Harry turned to Kai who was rather amused.

"It would seem he does not want you to see what he looks like." Kai said apologetically.

Harry's eyes widened. Time was here? Harry didn't know whether to be excited or afraid, so he settled on nervous. Kyi noticed and quietly said, "He is not here. But he has a wide reach if he wanted."

She shook her head. "Meddling old man," she said affectionately, showing she wasn't upset. She turned to look at Harry. "It would seem that Time does not want to ruin the image that you have of him. He has been thought of as a wise ancient figure and to know what he truly looks like may alter your perception of him."

"You know what he looks like?"

Kai cleared his throat. "Right, well, moving onwards. Like I said, Time does not care much for wars or conquests. In fact, he preferred to watch over moments that overflowed with love, determination, and other such emotions. He especially pondered the idea of family. Over the years, Time did not have anyone else to feel such a connection with. As old as he is, not once did he ever have a semblance of what a family consisted of. As he watched more and more, he questioned why he should not have a family. In the throes of loneliness, he came up with an idea to create his own. Being what he was, he couldn't just find a wife and tada, babies. Rather, he set off on another path altogether. He decided to pull from everything he had access to. Which is a lot, mind you. He pulled from his power, energy, infinite timeline, the cosmos, and more."

At this point Kai stopped talking. He studied Harry's avid attention before turning to his sister. She looked at him and slowly began to speak.

"Harry, one thing to mention before we continue is that what he attempted had never been done before or since. It is not well known and we would like your word that you will not inform others of this," she ended softly.

Harry didn't hesitate at all and answered, "Of course. I give my word."

Kyi smiled. Motioning to her brother to continue, Kai started the story again. On the table the dark blue lights formed again. It showed a human like figure moving around and adding things to a small orb. With each thing he added, it started to grow. Eventually, it turned into a bright white ball of energy. The cartoon looking figure looked on and seemed satisfied with the result only to frown a few seconds later. Harry looked to Kai for clarification.

Sadly he said, "He created a combination of the most essential things in this world. He made it so that all was balanced within it and stable. Once done, he had created a soul. Such a magnificent thing however had a flaw. It did not have life and even in its newborn state, this soul was powerful and no other being, save Time, would be powerful enough to give birth to it. And Time could not do it himself."

With this said the cartoon figure hung his head and enclosed the orb in a box. He reached out to lay his hands along the box with a mournful expression. Harry's throat caught. It was just a small cartoon, but he felt the sadness. He had been so close. Close to not feeling lonely. Close to having family. Harry knew the feeling all too well. He had been close to having a family and he too had lost the chance. Harry bit back the sob that was threatening to make itself known. He didn't know why, but this hit him hard as what he had lost came back to him at full force.

He felt a hand on his shoulder. Harry looked up and caught Kai's smile. It was filled with reassurance and he felt the warmth dissolve the knot in his throat.

Kai motioned again to the lights. This time there was no figure. Just the box and the soul within it. It sat still in front of Harry when suddenly the box sprang forward. Out of reflex, Harry moved back to avoid a collision. He was surprised when it stopped and jerked to the right. And then to the left. Pretty soon the box was jerking every which way making Harry's fingers itch to grab it. Kyi noticed and started to laugh. After a few seconds the box stopped moving and the lid popped open. The soul orb started to float away from the box it had been confined in while faintly emitting a soft purple light. Slowly the lights started to fade and soon there was no image to see.

Harry was confused. What had happened? Something had caused the small soul orb to break out of the box and yet there had been nothing around it. Hadn't Time failed to bring it into existence?

"No he hadn't," Kyi answered, guessing his thoughts.

"What do you mean," Harry asked.

"He created a soul. Just because it didn't have a body or what most creatures would call a "life," does not mean it never existed. Time simply did not have the patience to wait and see what would happen. It's funny considering who he is," Kai explained.

Harry was stunned. The little soul orb had existed. A smile tugged at his lips. "So did Time have the family he wanted?"

Kyi's smile fell. She turned her eyes to look at Kai. Harry turned to see Kai wore the same expression as his sister. "No," Kyi choked out.

Harry pouted and shook his head in disbelief. "Why not?"

Kai laughed. "The story is not over, getaiki."

Harry stuck out his tongue. He knew he must look like a child, but in comparison to them he would always be a child no matter what. He didn't feel the constraints to being thee HARRY POTTER –boy who lived in all his glory. "What does getaiki mean?"

Kai waived him off. "Another time I will explain. For now, you must listen."

Kai was about to set up the light show, as Harry had termed it. Suddenly Kyi stopped him. "Me me! Ooh pick me! My turn!" Harry giggled. Kai smiled and nodded.

Kyi lifted her arms gracefully and moved in flowing motions. Harry almost thought she was dancing. He watched, transfixed, as the lights started to form again. But this was different. There were more colors. Like a muggle movie.

"Showoff," Kai muttered. Kyi grinned at him. She asked, "Jealous?" Kai grinned back and signaled for her to get on with the tale.

Kyi moved her hands once more and the image cleared. It showed a small purple orb moving among trees, rivers, and over bodies of waters. The scenery was always changing. The soul was always moving.

"Time had concluded that his desire to have a family would never be realized due to his inability to give life to the soul he created. At the moment, he let go of any intentions to try again or to look for a way. He told himself that it was never meant to be. As a result, he chose to confine his biggest disappointment and tuck it away so that it was never around as a reminder. He allowed himself to walk away and forget he ever tried and failed," Kyi finished sadly.

She sighed softly before continuing, "The soul, however, did not know this. It wasn't aware that it had failed. Rather, with a mentality of a child, it wanted freedom and exploration. It didn't care that it was only energy with no body. It roamed the earth, explored, observed, and learned. Over the course of several centuries, the little soul had learned desire. It desired to interact with its surroundings. So it did."

Kai took up the narrating as Kyi began to change the images. It portrayed the little orb changing colors while large amounts of energy began to emit from it. "The soul did not know the meaning of failure. It simply meant that the things it had tried had not worked. So it kept trying to change its form. To make use of the energy it contained. It figured out quite fast that while using the energy to interact with the outside world worked, it diminished its light and left it feeling weak. Giving up on that course of action, it stopped trying for some time. In the meantime it observed a race of beings that it happened to come across."

Harry watched as the little soul orb moved around what looked to be a city of beautiful creatures with wings on their backs. Images of different people came into view as they talked, laughed, flew, and went about their day. The little orb stumbled into various rooms and on once such occasion, it walked in (figuratively speaking) on a female in labor. Others were crowded around her and speaking to her. The image changed suddenly and the female was now holding a small child in her arms. Everyone was laughing and celebrating. The little orb changed colors. Harry realized that the orb had learned something important from the experience.

"The soul..," Kyi paused. Turning to look at Harry, Kyi said, "I'm getting really tired of calling the soul an 'it' or just 'soul' so could you please give it a name? It doesn't matter what it is so long as we have something to refer to it as. The soul has a name but that comes later."

Harry thought about it. He could call it anything he pleased. Kyi said it wouldn't matter because he would find out what it was called later. He stared at the little ball of light. Finally he said, "Ball. Call it Ball."

Kyi looked at him for a while to make sure he was not kidding. Eventually she shrugged and continued.

"Okay then, Ball discovered then and there that the best way for it to interact with the world was to have a body to do so. But it could not force someone to give birth to its soul. Not to mention that they would have to be powerful enough to actually do it. Ball ran into the same problem that Time did. And similarly, knew that it was an impossible feat. Ball let go of its desire to be anything more than energy. Instead, it filled its time with observation and learning."

The image changed once more. It depicted Ball wondering in the forest, bouncing up the trees and down their branches. Ball made its way into a bright clearing, where there sat a woman among the flowers. Harry noticed the wings on her back. The woman was one of the beings from the earlier depictions. The first thought that crossed his mind was that the woman was gorgeous. She had long silver hair and expressive blue eyes. The more Harry looked at her, the more she seemed familiar. She smiled and reached out her hands towards Ball.

"Ball had never been seen before and suddenly this woman," Kyi said almost breathlessly, "this beautiful woman was able to see and hold Ball. Ball could not express in words what it meant to have someone see it. Every day, Ball would go to that clearing and every day the woman would be there waiting."

Kyi's voice turned softer and Harry could hear emotion that was barely restrained. The woman in the forest meant something to Kyi. He turned and looked at Kai. He too wore a look that reflected much sadness. He turned back to the image in front of him and realized that the image had changed again.

"One day, when Ball reached the clearing, there was another person there. Not sure what to do, Ball hid behind the nearest tree and watched the woman and the new man. He was different than her. He also had wings but his were sharper and a darker shade of gray. He had two lumps on his forehead. Even with the changes, this man exuded confidence and alertness. He was gorgeous in all his dark glory. While she shone brightly, he shadowed everything else. Ball watched as they talked, laughed, and talked some more."

Harry watched the scene play out in front of him. He had been intrigued with the stranger but was not surprised when the man caressed the woman's cheek as he bent down to kiss her. He chuckled slightly when he saw that Ball had turned a bright red color when that happened. He watched happily as the man turned and held out his hand in the direction of Ball. Ball shot out of the forest and straight into his hand, glowing a warm gold. Both the man and the woman laughed and both held out their hands to hold Ball. Harry felt warm. Ball had found two people who saw and adored it. A happily ever after.

At least, that is what he thought. He was startled when the image went dark. He felt his heart beat fast at the thought of Ball not finding a place. It was a soul that he had never met and yet couldn't help but feel his heart reach out to it. He nearly jumped when he heard a baby's cry. The lights returned and the image cleared to show the woman holding a baby against her and the man watching from her side. Harry didn't understand. He was confused. The imaged zoomed in to the baby. Harry made a strangled noise when he saw a precious little baby glowing softly in different colors. And then the thought clicked in his mind. The woman, the man, the silver hair…all of it so familiar. Harry sucked in a breath. He turned to look at his twins. "Which of you is Ball?"

His twins smiled. They were surprised that he had figured it out on his own. Kai stood and walked over to his sister. Sitting to her right, they smiled at each other and then turned to Harry. "We both are."

Harry started. It was impossible. He thought that maybe he had misheard them. He laughed nervously before saying, "I think I must have heard wrong. Sorry, but could you please repeat that for me?"

The twins grimaced. Harry didn't understand. He looked back and forth between them but couldn't make out what their frowns were about. He was baffled when they kept silent.

Slowly, Kai laced his fingers through his sister's hand. After a reassuring squeeze, he let go and stood up. He went towards the wall that held out his hand to touch the plaques on the wall. He closed his eyes. After a few seconds, he let his hand fall to his side and turned to face Harry.

"I think we have gotten ahead of ourselves a little bit," Kai explained. He ran his hand through his hair and looked towards Kyi. His sister did not turn to look his way, but she just nodded.

"Harry, please listen first and if you still don't understand, we will explain it to you," she said gently.

Harry nodded. Kyi sent a thankful smile his way and took up from where the images had left off. "Now as you know, Ball was able to be conceived by the woman with silver hair. The union between those two beings brought about a strong bond and equally strong energy that, incredibly enough, was what was needed to give Ball life. Their love and bond gave them the gift a beautiful baby girl. They called her Kierri. Ball's true name is Kierri. Those two beings were her first parents. The mother, Zara, and the father, Revis, were part of two warring races called the Katooel and Querti. These races were often mistaken and confused with the human's idea of what angels and demons looked like. Due to this, they are often referred to as such. They exhibit amazing energy and power. The Katooel with the white feathers and bright light were considered angels and the race of light. The Querti, usually had power that in those times terrified other races. They cast shadows and darkness. This did not mean that they were evil, just to clarify. Both races had their good and their bad, though both were incredibly hated by the other.

It was considered taboo to socialize with others of the opposite race. And worse, it was considered betrayal to fall in love. Anyone who dared was often shunned from the rest of their kind and…they can be cruel. Zara and Revis were powerful and together they could defend themselves and keep their love hidden. But it was not enough. When Kierri was born, the truth was discovered and they had to flee. There had never been a child of mixed race and the elders of each race could not decide to either have the child killed or captured to be observed. It was eventually decided that the child was to be captured but the parents were to be killed. In the only act of camaraderie, these two races rushed into the killing of two very protective parents orphaning a baby girl."

Kyi closed her eyes as she sighed. Kai looked at Harry with a mournful expression. Harry's heart clenched. He was about to say something to them when Kai moved to speak.

"The little girl was a hybrid between the two races and had never existed before. The elders of both decided to observe and experiment on her to determine her best use, if she could be used at all. They had an idea of making her a slave to both races and if powerful, a weapon against the other enemy races," Kyi whispered bitterly.

Kyi laughed maliciously. "Ah but the fools failed to realize the extent of a parent's love."

Harry swallowed. His mother had sacrificed her life to prevent evil from touching him for as long as it could. A mother's love is very powerful. He didn't know how she had done it but everyone, Dumbles included, believed that she had invoked a very powerful spell due to her love.

"In a risky effort to save their child, Zara and Revis initiated very old magic among the races. A magic that was lost and forgotten by almost all but the elders and the oldest families. This magic is almost reminiscent of your mother's protection barrier. It requires sacrifice. Requires the single thought of the child's safety above that of your own. How it works was that t hey would copy and transfer all knowledge and memories they felt could be of use to the child. This would allow the child to learn and master her own abilities faster. She would have year's worth of knowledge and memories at her disposable. Another aspect of this magic was to bequeath their own magical power and strength to their daughter effectively tripling her power," Kai explained.

"What they didn't know was that the soul was already centuries old with explosive power from her original father, Time. All that mattered was that this was their child and they would die for her if need be. There was, though, the matter of sacrifice. They transferred the memories and ran for as long as they could. Eventually the hunters closed in. Seeing no way out after being locked in, they hid her and fought. As strong as they were, the hunters were too many. That didn't stop them from given it their all. They reduced the hunters down to a ¼ of their original numbers. After losing all strength, they locked eyes and initiated their failsafe. Linking hands and resting against each other, they completed the magic. The magic was transferred leaving them helpless."

Harry watched as the two parents smiled and exchanged a kiss. The lights faded as the hunters came into view. He knew what followed. He didn't have to see it to know. His hands closed into a fist.

"There was a gathering of the elders around the child. They had found her but could not lay a hand on her. Any that meant her harm, experienced great pain that didn't fade and led them to hysteria. The elders had been summoned to determine what could be done. They knew what magic had been used and in their arrogance thought a slave bond would overwhelm the protective barrier. Using all their magic in a single spell, they focused on the child," Kyi continued. The lights had formed again to show the child in the middle of a ritual circle surround by twelve elders, six of each race.

Kai then slammed the table with a curse startling Harry. Before the boy could ask what happened, Kai whispered softly, "The fools didn't realize how much power was in the child, and when they tried the ritual for the slave bond there was a ripple effect. The powers bequeathed to the child rose up to create a barrier and her own power rose to defend it. New to power, the child could not control it. It went on the offensive immediately."

Kyi sighed. "You have to understand, Harry. The powers transferred and the barriers were remnants of her parents. She would not let them destroy them. Her power spread out and gripped the magical cores of all present and shattered them. It killed them but the backlash spiraled out of control. The souls remained and attempt to strike back. The barrier, sensing evil, tore them apart leaving nothing of their existence. It was painful for all involved."

Harry let out a breath. "They deserved it. A slave bond. That is horrible. The nerve."

Kai reached out to lay a hand on Harry's shoulder. "It is easy to say that and for the most part they did deserve something. But it is not something to be proud of. That they are bad and would have caused further harm to the girl and others similar to her is a fair assessment. But fair to whom?"

Harry was not following. "What do you mean? Obviously it was fair to the child. These elders were wrong and deserved to be punished."

The twins frown. This was a common reaction but they wanted Harry to rise above revenge.

Kyi shifted to look at Harry fully and began to explain. "Life is hardly ever black and white. What they did was horrible but in their world, within their ideals and laws, Zara and Revis broke the rules first. In the muggle world as well as in the wizard world, there are rules. Laws. For example, underage magic. They take that law seriously. Children are children. They make mistake. Is it fair that some get punished or run the risk of being judged harshly and the sentence is a little harsh? No. But is it also right not to have these laws for those that can and may expose the rest and cause someone else to be hurt? There are always two sides. You see your enemies. And your enemies see theirs. They may truly believe what they do. Will they contradict your beliefs? Sure. But nothing is ever so clear."

Harry was having trouble understanding what they were trying to tell him. "Okay I understand that there are dangers to take into consideration. Especially for the statute of secrecy that the wizarding world takes very seriously. But I fail to see why this child was such a danger to them. They fell in love and had a child. Where is the fault in that?"

"Harry, love cannot be controlled and who you love is not something you choose. But they chose to bring a child into their world. These races are each other's opposites. It was taboo to associate, but even more so to begin a love affair. Both knew that among the laws, a child would be an abomination and would be hunted. And they chose to do that. This child. This miracle child that should have never existed. They knew that it would mean death. They share in the responsibility of what happened. In a perfect world, falling in love and having a child wouldn't be wrong. But this is not a perfect world. It never has been and it may never be one."

Harry closed his eyes. He knew that they were trying to make him understand something but he was having issues reconciling his idea of wrong and right. There should always be someone to blame for what happens. Always someone who is in the wrong and someone in the right. Right? If that wasn't true then a lot of what he believed to be right would fall apart. It couldn't be right. In barely a whisper he said, "I don't understand."

Kai's eyes softened. "Okay let's start with something simple. Is killing wrong?"

"Yes."

"Are you sure," Kyi asked.

"Yes."

Kai smiled. "We agree. But would you say that it is sometimes necessary?"

Harry was not anticipating the question. He believed killing was wrong. It was evil. He was about to say that it would never be necessary but he stopped. Memories assaulted his senses. He was starting to understand but did not answer the question.

The twins understood the internal struggle that was going on inside Harry. "The child killed every elder. If killing is wrong then she was in the wrong as well. But was it necessary?"

Harry sighed. "Yes. To defend herself."

Kyi knew he was beginning to understand now. There was no black and white. There was grey and more grey. "Evil can be understandable and necessary. It doesn't make it right or any easier for the one taking that action. This applies to all things. There is always the choice but the question is not whether you can take the step but rather can you live with the consequences of your actions. Not every evil by your black and white rules is in reality, evil. Creatures, as dangerous as they are, are not any more evil than humans. You categorize them as if you could simply label them and they will all be the same. The generalization is preposterous. Light and dark are the wizard's favorite terms. To be dark doesn't mean..."

"That you are evil and being light doesn't mean that you are good," Harry finished for her.

She smiled at him. Kai continued, "We define ourselves as best we can. But we, and I mean everyone, don't always understand the things that happen and we can't always to hope to restrain the emotions we feel. For example…Bellatrix."

Harry's face darkened. "I understand what you mean."

As he allowed his anger and hatred for Bellatrix fade until it was just an ember, Harry thought about what he had just been told. This meant that the twins believed that killing was wrong but was necessary. That it was not a matter of the killing but whether you could live with the consequences. "How do you do it? How do you live with yourselves?"

The twins shrugged. They did everything in their power to avoid having the situation come to that. Killing was only a last resort. It was not something they ever took lightly and it was never in cold blood.

"It is a slope," Kai finally answered.

Kyi nodded. "You decide if you can live with the choice. Just remember that your choices impact others in ways that cannot be foreseen. While your "necessary evils" make sense to you, others may not agree. At which point, be mindful that you don't become an unnecessary evil to others. Like Voldemort."

Both twins scowled. The wizard known as Voldemort was disgusting to them. They could live with his obliteration.

Harry voiced their thoughts. "He has no purpose and a sadistic drive. His actions are morally wrong as what he does is meaningless to his overall purpose. I don't share in his ideals but he has no idea or doesn't care of what he is doing. I bet he doesn't realize that he is not helping his purpose. Rather he is making it so that all that he is promoting is killing and violence. It is not a necessary path to push forth what you believe in but he does what he does for pleasure. People are dying for no reason. His attempts to justify what he is doing with that pureblood bigotry of his don't make sense."

The twins grimaced and inched closer to Harry. "People often turn to violence and while it works in the short run, you must eventually understand that some things cannot be forced that way and your approach must change or face the result of such actions," Kai whispered.

Harry allowed himself to think about those words for a little while before he spoke again. "What were the results of the elders being killed?"

They both grimaced. Harry was confused. He understood what they meant by "tearing their souls from their bodies." It meant death obviously, but it had been in self defense. No, what he didn't understand was what consequences they were speaking of. He continued to stare at his twins.

Kyi and Kai had both been staring at the plaques on the wall. They glanced at him before staring at the plaques again.

"With the elders from both races gone, there was a time where chaos reigned. During this time, many lost their way and their order causing disputes. War eventually broke out. The energy and power of these proud races were gone. The few that survived disappeared and it is believed that they no longer exist. We know that they mixed in with the human population and the blood was diluted to where the inherited characteristics were gone," Kai explained.

Kyi looked apprehensively at Kai and Harry. Kyi nodded. Softly she said, "Harry, this may be a delicate subject right now to talk about, and we apologize, but we have something that we need to mention to you if only briefly. We have done some thinking about your mother's "sacrifice" and the "blood wards" and it ties into what happened to the races after they mingled with the humans."

Harry was startled. Any light that they could shed on the situation that had everyone else making assumptions would be welcomed. However, what if he didn't like the truth of the matter? Would it be just another burden to carry? Making up his mind, he nodded indicating that they should continue.

"Think back to what we told you about the ancient ritual that was used to transfer the power of the parents to the child, Harry. Of the sacrifice that both gave willingly for the protection of their beloved daughter."

Harry's breathing quickened as understanding swept through him fiercely. His mother. The similar sacrifice. Not exactly the same but the similarities were striking. Add to that the information of the races mingling in with humans. It would be a safe assumption that there were descendents of the races with trace amounts of power. Before he could ask his twins knew what he was thinking.

"We believe she was Katooel. She would have been of mixed blood and it would have been diluted to the extent that no outward appearances would be reflective of this. This would not have shown on any scans as it is something that has to be specifically looked for. Your mother was very powerful. It would seem that she was able to tap into the innate power of the Katooel." Both twins smiled, taking a moment to appreciate his mother.

Harry was reeling. "You mean to say that she wasn't entirely human and that why the blood wards were enacted that caused a man to burn to ash and…wait." Harry struggled to get his mouth to catch up with his thoughts. "I am not human?"

Kai looked towards the corner, suddenly finding it very interesting. Kyi smiled at her brother. He didn't want to lie to Harry. The truth was that they weren't entirely sure. She phrased it as best as she could. "We are 93% sure you are 83% human. The blood was mixed over countless generations and it would take further research to be sure. It could be that the 17% is not entirely Katooel but we believe it is more likely the case."

"What about my mother being muggle born then?"

His twins snorted at his question. His eyes went wide when Kyi huffed.

"We don't believe in blood superiority. Classifying blood type is just to know the traits. Just like when muggles say that they are type O or Type B. It is only important because it allows us to see which magic and affinities would complement the user. You can be muggle born and be much stronger than that of a pureblood. Truthfully, the label of muggle born and pureblood in relation to wizards and witches are rather useless. They tell you nothing of the magic and its traits. The pureblood idiocies are spouted and yet have no real backing. It's not that shouldn't be looked into, but the original and old traditions were built on ideas and opinions that have been distorted to appease pride and arrogance. Take the foolish notion that to have creature blood in your linage makes you dirty and inferior. More so than the muggles," Kyi spat out forcefully.

She took a breath and continued, "This prevailing idea is contingent on purebloods being more magical, though this is not the case. Other races and creatures are born magical with a much stronger tie to their core. They pull magic to their fingertips easily. Can wizards say the same?"

Harry smiled. He knew that while wizards were much powerful than muggles, he had seen other races show a more profound sense of wisdom and power. Wizards belittled them like childish teenagers who believe that they know everything as opposed to their parents and adults. Coupled with the power most take for granted, they have turned arrogant, vicious, and dangerous. Dobby throwing Malfoy back with a burst of power had been one gratifying and enjoyable moment that cemented the idea that not all is as we believe it to be.

"But we digress," Kai cut in.

Kyi pouts. "You were thinking it too. In my head and very loudly too!"

Harry grew thoughtful of that comment. He had heard Kyi but had not heard Kai yelling of the same ideas. It saddened him slightly that they could have conversations without him hearing about it. Shaking it off, he would dwell on it later.

Kai sent warmth and love through to him. Harry sighed into the feeling. He hoped never to get used to it so that he would never take it for granted. He enjoyed it immensely.

Kyi smiled. "Let's move on."

"Your mother had every intention of protecting you, exchanging her life for yours if the situation called for it. Somehow, in her desperation, she tapped into her dormant Katooel abilities. That is how the curse rebounded when it hit you and how that professor could not stand your touch. She gave you a barrier of her energy and love. Dumbles got part of that right. It's a right shame that he was wrong about the rest of it."

Harry looked back and forth between his twins. This was the part. This is where the truth could have been instrumental in changing the way things played out.

Kyi hesitated. "We looked into the blood wards. They never existed...on the house. Rather, they existed on you. Blood wards need to be renewed by a Katooel. Your aunt should be a Katooel but without access to the magic inside, she could not renew the wards. The barrier got weaker over time while it ensured that you would be safe. It was never dumb luck, Harry. The power works mysteriously and we don't know the specifics of the spell your mother cast. Though it is apparent that there are differences between what you mother did and what Zara and Revis cast, some things hold true. That child needed the wards renewed but it did not factor in due to what happened after. You survived longer than she did and when the wards were not renewed…"

"The wards failed and that maniac got a hold of my blood," Harry finished lamely. A shudder coursed through him and he tried not to let it show. But one look at the worried looks on his twins and he knew that they knew.

Their silence further confirmed this. "This…sucks. All the same, at least I have answers now as to how I survived that night. I have been given speculations and dismissals. I should like to revisit this later when I have had time to think it through. Thank you."

The twins nodded. This was a simple revelation but it was important. Had he known. Had anyone bothered to look further into it, it may have been different. The reliance on the blood ward had made everyone complacent and Voldie was now back to full power. Harry could have died had they given out at any point during his term in Hogwarts. This also made it apparent to Harry that his lack of a childhood could have been avoided and things could have been done differently.

Kai broke the silence first. "I know that this is something that you must think on and it is overwhelming as we have yet to scratch the surface of what actually happened that night, but would it be okay to continue the story of what and who we are?"

Pulled from his thoughts, Harry was surprised that they had veered very off topic. He nodded. He was very interested in knowing more about what happened that fateful night but not today. He also wanted to know more about his twins. This was more important. His past could wait. It would not be going anywhere.

Kai flashed him a grateful smile. "Now we informed you that the child had died. But in reality only the body did. Kierri went back to being a little ball of energy. Only this time, it was different. Kierri had more power from her parents. The power had integrated into her core and she found that even without the body she had kept everything. The memories, the power, and the abilities."

Kyi picked up the tale from there. "One of most important of the newfound abilities was that her compatibility was more flexible. She was pulled to another couple and was surprised to learn that she could be born again if everything was right. Setting aside the complex details, Kierri was born again. Different body, more abilities, and different parents but with everything else intact. The powers she had acquired from Zara and Revis were still there as were her memories. From her second birth, she was self aware. And so began the cycle that has been comprised of all our lives." She motioned to the plaques again.

Harry once again stared at the plaques. Kai nudged him to go take a look. He went through the motions of getting up and walking across to the wall with all the tiny plaques. All the while, he was thinking about what he had just been told. The child had been reborn over and over again throughout the course of time…oh. It hit him instantly. Of course. The child was daughter of Time. Birth, life, death, and rebirth were just states of time. As he got closer to the wall, he could make out the writing on each plaque. The lone plaque in the middle said Time. That plaque was connected to two others. Each was decorated differently, but he could clearly read "Zara" and "Revis" on them. Linked to those two were another two. Those read "Bra'lai" and "Faraine."

Harry reached out to touch them. He looked over the rest of them. His twins were older than he thought. Many different parents and lives. All those memories. He understood the story so far but there was an obvious question to be answered. "If the child had many lives, I can understand having many parents. However, if there was just one child and this child signifies your creation, how come there are two of you? As in please explain how there are twins instead of just the one."

They smiled. "That question is rather simple to answer actually. Time is not the only ancient being we are related to. We have several aunts. Three to be exact. You may know them as the fates. They are nothing like how they are described but they are very peculiar. As the fates would have it, most of our lives consisted of losing the people we loved most. This makes for a rather awkward familial tie. They are doing what needs to be done, which is to assist Time is caring for the order of things. It is hard, however, not to feel bad when your niece suffers through life alone as she is the only one in existence. Our life was never easy. As a gift from the Fates, the only one they have ever given mind you, they allowed for an anomaly."

"That was not an easy answer and it didn't answer the question," Harry stated. "Putting the fact that you can easily divulge the fact that you are related to the Fates as if you were commenting on the weather, I still don't understand."

Kyi laughed. "We are not finished. Harry, what was the outcome of when Time created his child?"

Harry was confused. Was this a trick question? He didn't understand but he humored her. "After Time brought together all of the elements to make his child, there was a ball of energy. A soul."

"Yes," Kyi replied as if it explained everything. Harry turned to face her. He needed a little more to understand. Kyi complied by going up to him and placing a hand on his chest. Harry felt a tingle and he watched as Kyi removed her hand. There was a small glowing orb right in front of his chest. He looked expectantly up at her.

"Harry, that is your soul," she said before moving to stand next to her brother. Each then laid a hand over their own chest. They moved their hand to reveal what lay beneath. Harry expected to see two souls but was shocked to see that this was not the case. Each of them had half of a sphere. He gasped as the spheres moved to lock with each other. A perfect match.

"We are the anomaly. One soul was broken into two. A half was placed into each body. We shouldn't have been separated but in an act of kindness, we were. As two, we can share a company that will never leave. We are not complete without the other and we will both go through the process of being reborn together. The fates gave us what we thought we would never have. Eternal companionship."

The orbs faded and Harry just stared. It made sense. Time had created a unique soul. There would be no other creature that could live as that soul could. Harry suddenly found himself very insignificant. He had felt loneliness for years. This soul had felt loneliness for what seemed an eternity and had resigned itself to that. It must have been painful to watch as others left or died knowing you would always have to live without ever seeing them again. He thought of Sirius. They had felt that pain more than once. His heart ached just to think about it.

Kyi and Kai, surprised, moved towards Harry and embraced him. With soothing thoughts and love flowing through to Harry, the magic started to settle. Harry snapped out of his slight trance and accepted the hugs from his twins. One head on each shoulder, Harry enjoyed the warmth. They didn't just soothe his magic but it felt like an embrace for his soul. He had never felt so calm or loved until his bond with the twins. He wondered, idly, if all bonds felt like this and wouldn't it be amazing if they were?

After some time, the twins slowly pulled away. Shakily, Harry whispered, "It's not fair."

The twins gave him a sad smile. "Life is such a thing," Kai said. "That is never truly fair," Kyi finished.

'But it is never senseless and always for a reason. It's just that the reasons don't always become clear immediately,' they told him mentally.

Harry closed his eyes. His mom would never have considered her sacrifice senseless. Even if she had known that Harry would have died anyway, it would not have changed her choice. Harry had made the same choice before. He hadn't known going into the Chamber of Secrets if he would have made a difference but he did it anyway. Or staying by Sirius's side when the dementors had descended on them. He could have ran and left him there. But he chose to stay, almost dying in the process. He had made the choice easily because…because it had been Sirius. Even if he had only known that Sirius had been innocent for a short while, Harry had wanted the chance to know the man and that man was the closest thing to family he had at the time. Anything for family and those you care about. He smiled. Life was never fair, but if you made the best of what it gave you all that mattered was the choices you made.

Harry stilled. Things happen every day and we must live with the consequences to our lives and the lives of others. He knew that Sirius had rushed into the fight at the Ministry only to save him. He felt the familiar pang of guilt but it didn't cut as deep as before. Harry realized that he had accepted that while we will mourn and walk hands with our tragedies, we can't place blame when there was no control. Harry knew that he had been reckless but Sirius had made the choice to fight.

Harry had thought that his death was senseless because he had been fooled. But Sirius would not have considered it senseless. It was to protect his child and family. They may not have been related by blood, but blood is not the only thing that bonds strongly. They were family. Sirius was the closest to a father that Harry had ever had and he was sure that Sirius would have liked nothing better than to have taken up the role if he could.

The choices that led up to his godfather's death were not all his. Harry would have to accept that he had made a bad choice but others made their choices after his and they would have to live with those. He could not be responsible for everyone else. He could just make the best of everything that came his way.

Harry heaved a sigh. He knew that it was not his fault but he also knew that he wouldn't completely forgive himself. He could accept it but it would forever be there to motivate him to do better, to think before acting, and to give what he could without losing himself.

He shook himself out of his thoughts. He allowed himself to enjoy the embrace from his twins.

"We are okay. Shh. We are fine."

Harry smiled. "I'm sure there is more to know about you and the lives that you both have had. I imagine that few have ever learned of what little I have learned."

Kyi shrugged. Kai laughed. "You are correct. There are very few that we have told about our linage. However, you would be the first to know the details of what happened. We would like you to be the first to know more."

Harry raised his eyebrows. He was pleasantly surprised that they would be willing to tell him more of their life. It would be magnificent. But he knew that there was more to their statement than they mentioned. He didn't ask. He didn't need to.

The twins suddenly got serious and took a step back from him.

"We are old and we keep the knowledge of what we are and what has happened to us close to heart for very good reasons. However, we felt it prudent to give you as much detail of what we are and what we can be capable of," Kai said solemnly.

"We have a request that we knew would be entirely cruel if you decided to comply with not knowing the most intimate details of our birth. We are powerful and abide by very few rules. Most of which are self imposed. We are neither black nor white. We are neither dark nor light. We have given you a brief insight to what ideals we stand for and we do not shy from the necessary evils. All of it to give you a glimpse of what we are asking from you," Kyi whispered.

"You have every right to deny this request and we will not force you. This is not a demand but rather something that we want. As long as we have lived we have formed many bonds with many others. What we ask for today will not be reminiscent of those bonds. It will be different," they said in unison.

Harry stood still as he felt the force of the words they were about to say. He could feel their uncertainty and their hesitation. But he knew that they would not impose it on him. He waited.

Kyi and Kai linked hands. They removed themselves from Harry's mind so that their emotions would not impact the decision he would have to make. It was too important. Taking a deep breath, together they said, "Harry Potter. We are broken and flawed. However, we care very deeply for you and will offer you access to the inner most corners of our soul. We do not take this decision lightly and we would not offer if it was not what we wanted. Would you allow a bonding? It would be the only bond of its kind in existence as only we can initiate it and we have never asked before."

Harry knew this was a pivotal moment. "What type of bond would this be?"

"A soul to soul bond. The bond of Time."
