Chapter Four

The Funeral of Sullivan

The sun was just about to set, causing the sky to become a beautiful, bright, orang color with pink clouds floating around it, but nobody in Southtown was paying attention to it. Every human of all ages and sizes in Southtown were gathered in the middle of the town, for the ceremony. The Lawgiver, Alaya, and a few other apes were also there to honor Sullivan. Sullivan's unnamed child was asleep in Maire's arms, she was standing on the podium next to the Lawgiver and Alaya. Bako was on the stand about to give a speech to the crowd of what seemed like ten thousand humans.

"Sullivan was and still is an inspiration to us all. She was the most bravest person I have ever meet. When I think of all that she has gone through in her life it shows that no matter what happens you can come out of it a winner. In my opinion the human race would be a lot batter off if we had more people like her." Bako began his speech and it lasted for another five minutes. It was heard for him, but he kept the tears back. That was not the cause for almost everybody also though, the only ape that did cry was Alaya, but nobody saw it.

"I believe that Sullivan would have wanted us to move on with our lives and not shade a single tear for her sake. There is one good thing that has come out of her death; the birth of her son, which he does not have a name yet. I have decided that the honor of naming him should be given to his great-grandfather, the Lawgiver." Bako looked over to the Lawgiver, who was slightly taken aback be the last part of Bako's speech. Bako then motioning with a nod of his head to Maire to bring the small newborn baby to the Lawgiver. Doing what Bako wanted her to do, she walked towards the Lawgiver and handed him the child.

The Lawgiver looked at the child with loving eyes, all his attention was on the little child's bright green eyes like there was nobody else around them. After a moment of silence the Lawgiver looked up at the large crowed of humans waiting to hear him say something.

Clearing his throat he began to speak to the humans before him." Bako is right about how tragic it has been losing Sullivan, but I know she is in a better place. A place where humans and apes live together in peace. As for her son and my great-grandson," He paused for a moment to look at the child once more", I shall name him, Julian." the Lawgiver said, holding up the newly named baby for the crowd to see.

The crowd of humans cheered at the Lawgiver's small speech, but that quickly dead down when they remembered this was a funeral for their beloved mayor. The Lawgiver stood back and handed Julian back to Maire. Bako took the stag again to finish the ceremony.

"Thank you, Lawgiver. That was very poetic. Now if no one else wishes to add something, we'll have a moment of silence and then start the fire." he announced, waiting a few seconds for anyone that would like to speak up. With no one speaking up, he closed his eyes bowed his head with his arms behind his back. Everyone followed his lead and did the same.

After a minute, he looked back up and signaled for a man who was holding a lit torch to step forward. Giving Bako, the torch the man quickly bowed his head and walked back to where he was previously standing.

Sullivan's body was wearing a white robe with a white cloth covering her face. She was on top of a tower of wood that would easily engulf her body in flames when lighted. Bako walked over next to the tower, but wasn't too close.

All most everyone was still bowing their heads, but there were a few that wished to see the flames go up.

"A hope you're at peace Sullivan." he mumbled under his breath, no one heard him. He then throw the torch under the tower where there some extra wood and other things that would catch on fire easily. With in seconds the whole tower was on fire, burning the body to ashes.

Everyone was at a safe distance away from the massive fire, but they could still feel the intense heat and smell the burning flesh. Bako being the closed, could feel his skin burn, but he didn't care; he went through a lot worse things before and the most damage he would get would be a bad sun burn.

The newly named Julian started to cry. The only other sounds begin made was the fire and the wood being consumed. No one made a sound as they mourned their loss of one of best humans that lived in their town.

While the humans of Southtown and Sullivan's few ape friends and family were at her funeral, something bad was happening in the Virtellus Prison in the City of Mak.

It started with a simple fight between two inmates, turned into a small prison riot and just kept growing and growing until the whole prison was a war zone. The inmates now had complete control over the inside of the prison. Most of the guards were able to escape unharmed, but there was a few injured and there was still a few guards inside believed to now be hostages.

Back up was called in imminently and the army quickly came to the rescue. They were able to break their way inside and apprehend many of the prisoners. The guards that were thought to be hostages, turned out that they were just hiding in a secure part of the prison and weren't in imminent danger.

They were lucky no one was severely injured or worse had died. It wasn't a planed thing, so the prisoners had no organisation what so ever. In fact many were still fighting each other when the army broke in.

At first it looked like they had all the prisoners, but after they did a head count, they fond out that one was missing.

"Quick, send word to the Lawgiver that General Nix has escape!" the gorilla that was in charge of the head count ordered his subordinate. The younger gorilla quickly left.

"How could he have escaped? Out of all the other prisoners, he was the one that had the most locks and chains." The older gorilla being alone, was talking to himself as he stared at the unlocked cell door with chains on the floor.

It didn't need that much thought to know that some one had to helped him get away, but who would do such a thing?
