Chspter: Who is Frost

Jack took a deep breath and looked around the room at all the various faces. Some he recognized from the last few days, others from the last 300 years, and one who he recalled from a memory much further back. A memory that, until today, he didn't even know that he had. It was a humbling thought as much as it was a frighting one. One would find it to be rather unhealthy to have so many stints of amnesia, Jack himself was concerned about the side effects. However, right now he had more pressing matters at hand.

Finding out that you have been living a lie with in a lie was kind of a hard thing to swallow, let alone trying to figure out the best way to explain it to those closest to you. He knew just by the looks on their faces they all had questions they were dying to ask. Heck he had a few questions of his own that he was going to be asking, that's for sure. He was extremely grateful for them giving him a little space upon waking up rather than bombarding him with inquires. So with one more deep steadying breath he reached over to his bed side and picked up his staff; who placed it there he would be sure to thank later, and finally acknowledged the room.

"Alright, as much as I am dying to know how you convinced Bunny to come hundreds of miles into the air, I'm sure your questions are probably more important." Jack joked, his hopes that a little humor would help ease everyone's minds.

Surprisingly enough the joke did seem to do the trick as most people in the room seemed to let out a silent sigh of relief. Jack was pretty sure they weren't entirely sure what to expect after everything that had happened. He didn't have to wait long before an unspoken order of who was to start asking questions begun, and the first up Dr. Banner.

"Hey Jokul," He started. It was clear he wasn't sure exactly how to address him, odds are the fact that two different groups of people called him by two different names played a part. So Jack decided to start this off by correcting the basics.

"Jack Frost." He interrupt softly. The reaction was immediate from everyone, the guardians wore bright smiles as the avengers held looks of concern. Jack had to keep from flinching at the crest fallen look of one particular thunder god. So he decided to give a little more. "I'm sorry to interrupt you but I think rather than using my birth name, it would be best if you just call me Jack."

Many were about to jump in to the conversation, but Bruce took back hold of his turn. "So you're Jokul Frosti then?"

Jack gave a soft nod, "It's complicated so just call me Jack; and before you all start shouting for me to explain, It would be long winded and I'd rather not be interrupted. So, how about we just answer your original questions first and then go form there?"

Some hummed their agreement while others nodded. With that handled Jack turned back to Bruce. "So Dr. B I believe you had a different question on your mind?"

Bruce smirked at the way Jack addressed him but continued non the less, "How are you feeling?"

Jumping from the table Jack did a quick rotation of his arms followed by his legs. With his free hand he patted his chest then ran his fingers through his hair. Satisfied with his self diagnosis he shrugged, "Well Physically I fell just fine."

"Just physically?" North quickly interjected.

"Yes North, Physically. I'm still a little tired after everything that's happened this past week. Not to mention I've just had to catch up on a lifetime worth of information for which half of it I'm not real happy about." Jack grumbled.

Sandy floated up so he was visible to everyone and started throwing out a few pictures. The jist of it warmed Jacks heart. "Hey Sandy it's alright, I'm not mad at you for what happened. So you don't need to feel bad for leaving to complete your job. If you remember I told you to leave me back in Germany, so maybe I should say sorry to you for making you worry."

Sandy gave a nod then shot a small ball of sand at Pitch who was leaning on a near by wall. "Hey, what was that for?!"

"Shouldn't it be obvious, if you hadn't been causing a ruckus in Germany then we wouldn't be in this mess." Bunny growled out.

"Technically it wasn't my fault we're here, I only started the fight. If you want to point that furry finger towards anyone it should be little Bruce there." Pitch sneered.

Bruce's head bowed and Tony quickly spun around to defend his friend, "Uh I'm sorry, shouldn't you be hiding under a bed somewhere rather than pointing figures at people who were busy cleaning up your mess?"

"Alright guys, settle down were getting off track." Natasha scolded.

"Honestly," Jack chimed in with a bashful smile. "I'm thankful for everyone's involvement."

"Did you just say your thankful for getting in a fight and being injured?" Steve asked in surprise, it's not everyday people are thankful for being hurt in battle.

"Yup!" Jack chuckled and gave Bruce a light pat on the shoulder. "Think about it! If Pitch didn't start attacking the town then Sandy and I would never have come. If Sandy's job didn't demand attending, then we wold have taken care of everything before it got out of hand and alerted the Avengers scanners. Which I'm still unsure of why you were able to detect us at all , and though I'm glad for it we will come back to that. Further more, if Bruce decided not to show up for fear of Hulking up then he would never of collided with me and we would all still be blissfully unaware of each other. Or In my case, unaware that I was living a lie."

"Jack, how could you possibly be living a lie?" Tooth coed in a hurtful tone, whether it was pain for him or her no one was sure about.

Jack rubbed the back of his head in a bashful sort of way "Alright, I guess the conversation has steered into the direction now."

"If you don't wish to tell us, you don't 'ave to Jack." North tried to console.

Apparently not everyone agreed with his sentiments for Natasha stepped forward. "I would prefer if he does. Clearly there are things we are still unaware, If he withhold anything right now it could cause an issues in the future."

"Not to mention Fury is going to hound everyone until their deaf if we don't gather as much information as we can while we can." Clint supported.

"Leave it to the spies to push for personal information." Tony grumbled earning him a nudge from Bruce.

Jack waved off their concern, "I don't mind. If things are happening the way they are now, then it would be safer to tell you all what I know rather then keep you in the dark."

"Safer for us how?" Steve

Shaking his head Jack jumped on to a near by counter and started pacing. "See interruptions already."

Steve folded his arms an quirked an eyebrow causing Jack to laugh, "Okay technically the question wasn't out of order, but still I'm about to ramble so unless there is anything else you want to ask before I start go ahead."

At first Jack was sure that no-one was going to say anything, at least that was until Clint decided to speak up. "I have one, are you sure you want to be saying all of this with him still standing here? Isn't he like, your enemy or something?"

Following Clint's arm to Pitch the two locked eyes but said nothing. Jack seemed to be regarding the Boogieman, while Pitch seemed to just be intrigued at what his answer would be.

After what felt like forever Jack shrugged his shoulders and changed directions of his pace. "Nah, he's okay. Besides there is a lot of information that I'm going to go over that he is going to want to hear. But first, can we move to a more comfortable room? I don't know about the rest of you, but this room is kinda of cramped."

Unanimously the group turned and followed Natasha and Clint out of the medical ward into a large briefing room. Each person found a place they were most comfortable at. North, Tooth, Steve, Tony, Bruce, Natasha, and Clint sat at the round table. Pitch chose to stand in a corner away form the others which prompted Bunny to lean against a near by wall. Sandy decided to craft a chair for himself next to North as their chairs would have him far to short to see anything. Then finally there was the ever silent Thor, leaning against the back wall as if he was waiting for something.

"Alright!" Jack shouted as he jumped onto the table. "Once upon a time there was a little snowflake."

"Jack." North warned. "Be getting on with what you need to be telling everyone."

"Fine, no one loves theatrics anymore." Jack harrumphs as he begun to pace once again. "So I'll start at the very at the beginning, when snow and ice were untamed and the Gods of the universe were seeking balance."

"Come now Jack, no games." Tooth said while placing a soft hand on Norths arm.

"I'm not joking Tooth, this is how my story begins." Jack smiled at her, making sure to show her his pearly white teeth that she loves so much.

No one said anything despite the overwhelming desire to do so. Satisfied Jack looked at his staff and let his mind drift back to as far as he could remember, and thus he began to speak.

"There were three gods roaming the universe, each one powerful in their own way. Logi the God of Fire, Aegir God of Water, and Kari God of Wind. Three brothers so much like the elements they governed that they took on their very form at times. Each one claiming planets, life forms, and the elements under their protection after their father created them. All was thought to be in balance, but one brother thought that there was a need for another. That brother was Kari. He ventured the universe trying to find what he thought they were missing. Then one day he chanced upon a world of ice, snow, and everything cold. It was a planet unlike most, as it held no warmth, even to those who lived there. It wasn't harsh and unforgiving like most believed. It was serene, peaceful and held a beauty you couldn't find anywhere else.

Kari knew then what they were missing, they had no one among them that held the joy and cold beauty that he found there that day. So with a desire in his heart he summoned forth his power, begged his father for assistance in creating a son, and crafted a fellow god. His decision was smiled upon for he was given the help he needed, thus a new god was born. Jokul Frosti son of Kari God of all things Winter…Me."

The room was silent as no one dared interrupt the tale, as it would seem Jack really did have all the answers. Tilting his head back to look up at the ceiling but staring clearly beyond the metal frame "Tough the details of what all has happened so long ago are fuzzy, the one thing I do remember is how vast the universe was. So many planets filled with life and activity that it could be overwhelming to keep a track of what was what. Yet this planet here was different, it held a sort of peaceful innocence that was both calming and pleasant to me. I found so much joy in a world that was as young and ever evolving as I was. Unintentionally I kept finding my self drifting back to it, and each time I stayed longer then the last."

"Then everything changed when the there was an attack from the Frost giants." Jack growled.

"Father spoke of the attack." Thor cut in upon remembering the information from long ago.

"Yes, but did he ever tell you why they attacked earth in the first place?" Jack questioned. His face held no emotion making Thor uncomfortable.

"He had not." Thor admitted.

Jack nodded, "Figured as much, if there was one thing I hated the most about my time long ago, it would be that my uncle Logi did not see eye to eye with my father when it came to my creation. He made a point to say that I should stick to either wandering out in the cold darkness of space, or settle on a place of ice. So when I chose a place like earth, it' safe to say he didn't take the news kindly."

"Let me get this straight, this Logi guy sent a bunch of giant's here to deface Earth's value all because you liked it and were thinking of getting some property of your own?" Tony couldn't help but spin his chair a little to see if anyone would correct him. "sounds a little excessive for a guy whose claimed multiple planets in his name."

Jack chuckled at the analogy, "I never thought of it that way before, but yeah that's about the gist of it. I don't know what he was hoping to achieve with it really. Whether he thought the giants would try and persuade me to go to their world, or get the occupants of this world to try to drive me off thinking I caused it. Regardless, this little stunt changed the balance of peace between him and his brothers, and it sparked a war among us.

"No, why would they do something like that?!" Tooth cried in shock.

"Why would anyone start a war?" Natasha fired right back. "One party felt wronged by another and as a result did they only thing they knew how to do. Such is an act that has been repeated throughout history."

"You went to war? Was this the cause of your and God Kari's absence?" Thor pushed off the wall and walked closer to the table to gain attention, Jack regarded him carefully but said nothing. The silence prompted Thor to continue on. "Why did you not call upon us, we would have gladly come to your aid. Instead we sat thinking we have done something to become unworthy in your eyes and were shunned for it. "

"Thor." Jack stood on the table and stared directly into the others eyes. "Listen to me carefully, I can't speak for others but I can for myself. I've never once thought of you as unworthy. If I was able I would've called upon you in an instant to fight at my side. We did not, for we were trying with all our might to prevent a war between gods."

"You succeeded then yes?" North beamed. "I've heard of no war."

"North you do realize that if we really went to war, we could have easily destroyed this plant." Jack questioned.

"Wow and I thought Fury was all doom and gloom after he met Thor." Clint muttered to no one in particular. "He here's this and there will be no living with him."

Jack chuckled despite it all, "Yeah. Well Fury would probably really flip his lid if he knew that the war didn't happen, but there is a good chance that it still might."

"What?!" Everyone shouted in various volumes.

Jack nervously shuffled, "Hey I don't exactly know the end result, I was kind of preoccupied. Look, all I do know is that it started when Logi created Fearlings to help in our destruction.."

"Fearlings." Pitch suddenly gasped from the corner of the room. His eyes wide with sudden realization effectively shifting the attention his way.

Jack nodded, "Uh, yeah."

"What exactly are fearlings?" Natasha questioned.

Sandy jumped into the air flashing symbols quicker than any could read, the display was flashy but filled with little to no information. Pitch stood strait and ran his hand over his head to smooth down his hair and recover from his shameless outburst before speaking up. "You can stop embarrassing yourself now Mansnoozie, I'll take over from here."

Sandy's face puckered slightly but deciding that it just wasn't worth the effort he settled back down into his seat. Pleased with his decision Pitch began to circle the table, but not before giving said guardian a small pat on the head in a 'good boy' fashion. Waiving his arms overhead dramatically he flicked a little sand Pitch's way, but the man dodged none the less.

"My nightmares place you in a slumber that will force you to relive different fears; over and over again they will do so until you have no choice but to awaken. When you here this you may think that it is the worse thing you could go through. I wouldn't normally tell you goody goodies about such dealing, but I am doing this so you understand when I say that Fearlings are easily a thousand times worse, you'll understand the gravity of my words." Pitched paused for a moment to change directions.

" These monsters specialize in trapping you in a dream like state where they place you in scenarios that are impossible to tell aren't real. They whisper in your ears and have a way of making you believe what they say is real. Manipulative creatures that can make you face fear far worse then what I can produce, some have died while in their grasp. They feed off fear, and the more there is the stronger they get. There is no fooling them into thinking you aren't afraid, they can read you in ways that no one else can. You can't hide, fighting is largely useless, so the only hope is to seal them away and hope it works"

"Now that's an enemy I really rather not face." Bruce admitted. If one got into his head no doubt the fear would turn to anger, and who knows what that could do if he is still in their grasp.

Natasha reached over and gave Bruce a fond consoling pat of understanding. "Where are they now?"

"Originally they were sealed away and guarded. Unfortunately they got into the guards head and tricked him into letting them go. He was consumed and tainted by their dark ways. Most perished, I know not what happened to few that remained." Pitch relented as he leaned back against the wall.

Jack hummed at Pitch's words, they did great in helping fill in a few blanks. "It would make sense for that to happen, after all their existence was purely to aid in my destruction. If they couldn't find me what purpose was there for them to stay?"

It was about this time that Bunny decided to add his two cents into the conversation. "Well that's interesting and all, but what makes us so sure that Pitch is telling us is the truth? Jack isn't dead he's right here, so to say these fearling just up an vanished sounds a little to good to be true. The bloke's lied to us before for personal gain, what's to say this isn't another one of his tricks."

Pitch's face broke out into a smile, "Does it bother you that I'm the one helping here, or could it be that it's because you are not?"

Drawing on e of his Boomerangs Bunny began to twirl it in his hand. "Can it Pitch, I've a right mind to drop you right out this ship."

Jack bounced off the table and landed directly next to Bunny before anyone could blink. With his back slightly turned to Pitch he placed a calming hand upon his fellow Guardians shoulder. The gesture alone spoke great lengths to everyone in the room. "Calm down, he is just trying to goad you because he knows you're high strung right now. We need to focus on the real issue."

"And what exactly is the real issue?" Fury boomed from the door way making his presence known. "Because last I checked, the guy you're defending is the same one who attacking my ship, and you might I add. Not only that but he also caused the whole issue in Germany that started this whole mess in the first place."

"Fury." Jack turned to address the new comer with an innocent smirk. "What would you say if I told you that Pitch was just a little misguided and not the problem, but a rage filled God of Fire is?"

Fury gave the best deadpanned look he could muster before glaring at Thor, "I swear if this is another Asgardian about to cause more trouble I'm going to be pissed."
