Chapter 15

J.K. Rowling owns Harry Potter

Harry didn't know what to think. What had Lupin done to get himself arrested. Had he betrayed his parents?

"Harry?" Ron's voice interrupted his thoughts. "Come on mate, lets go eat breakfast."

"Are we going to wait on Hermione?"

"I think she's already at the library."

"Still can't wait for us."

At that moment Susan Bones and Lisa Turpin came down the stairs from the girls dorm. They saw Harry, and then turned away and ran to the portrait hole. Harry just sighed.

"That's just as annoying as before."

They left the common room and made their way to the great hall. Hermione was there reading an issue of the Daily Prophet. There were other issues stacked on the table next to her.

"What have you found?" Harry asked before he and Ron had even sat down.

"Not much," Hermione said sounding frustrated. "Last time everyone thought Sirius was guilty, but now it seems that no one has any idea what happened."

"Anything in there about Sirius, no one seems to know anything or they don't want to tell us." Harry said.

"It does look as though Lupin is still in Azkaban," Hermione said.

"What about Sirius?" Ron asked.

"There's nothing about Sirius, perhaps he wasn't there." Hermione said.

"Well he was the one Lupin attacked wasn't he?" Ron said.

"You really think so?" Hermione asked frowning.

"It could be," said Harry. "The paper never identified who it was Lupin attacked."

"Does it say anything about the Order of the Phoenix or the Fidaleus Charm?" Harry asked.

"No, and I really don't think it would, the Order was sort of secret."

"What are you trying to find?" Blaise asked as he sat down along with Terry Boot.

"Just some old family friends," Harry said.

"Are they famous," Terry asked looking at the stack of papers.

"In their own minds." Harry said.

Hermione looked at Terry. "Well maybe they are. Have you ever heard of Remus Lupin or Sirius Black?"

Harry and Ron snapped their heads up, she held up her hand to silence them.

"Lupin? Yeah my parents talk about him sometimes, said he went to Azkaban," Blaise said

"And the Blacks are an old wizarding family, but I can't say I know much about them." Terry said.

"I've heard of the Blacks as well, but I didn't know they were friends with the Potters," said Blaise.

"Well not all of the Blacks, just one," said Harry.

"You know, that name Sirius Black rings a bell, but I can't place it." said Blaise.

" I was thinking that as well," said Terry.

"I could write a letter to my parents, they probable know," said Blaise.

"Well its worth a shot," said Harry.

"It's a shame that Peter or Hagrid won't tell us more," Ron said.

"Well can you really blame them? In their eyes we're just three first years, they most likely think that it's really none of our business," Hermione said still scanning the Daily Prophet.

"But you are just three first years," Terry pointed out with a laugh.

Hermione froze, Harry could see her mentally cursing herself those were the kind of slip ups they couldn't afford.

"We don't want to be late for Charms," Ron said trying to change the subject.

"Eager to get to Snape's class are we?" Blaise asked.

"I think we're going to start the levitation charm today," Terry said getting up from the table.

He and Blaise started walking toward the grand staircase.

Harry got up as well and glanced at the Hufflepuff table.

"Looks like Draco's doing better," he said to Ron and Hermione who both turned to see Draco laughing with the Patil twins.

"We should make an effort to befriend him, he's not like the Draco we knew before." Hermione said.

Harry looked at her and nodded.

"You want to make friends with the ferret?" Ron asked.

Hermione gave an exasperated sigh.

"Maybe we can talk to him later in Herbology," Harry said.

They arrived at the Charms class room. Snape was sitting behind his desk reading what looked like The Daily Prophet.

Daphne and Tracey were already there.

"Did you find what you were looking for, in the library?" Daphne asked.

"We weren't looking for anything specific, just general information." Hermione said.

"General in what way?" Tracey asked.

Hermione glanced at Harry who gave a small smile and shrugged just slightly.

"Just stuff about, well you know.."

Daphne and Tracey were both frowning when Tracey's eyes grew wide.

"Oh my God, that?"

"What?" asked Daphne.

Tracey sighed, looked at her friend, then looked pointedly at Harry.

Daphne followed Tracey gaze then inhaled and put her hand to her mouth.

"I'm sorry, I should have realized."

"It's alright," Harry said, holding up his hand and shaking his head.

"Oh, but it's so obvious now," Daphne said looking at Tracey for help. Her friend simply raised her eyebrows in response.

"You're no help at all," Daphne said turning away from her friend and rolling her eyes as the other girl started to giggle.

"So you really don't know anything about it?" Tracey asked frowning.

"Well it's not that, there just seems to be conflicting information," Harry said.

"My parents aways said that no one really knew what happened. It was almost like they were trying to keep any one from finding out too much." Daphne said.

"Have your parents ever mentioned Sirius Black or Remus Lupin?" Harry asked.

"Remus Lupin? Yeah he was the guy that went to prison. It's just that no one really knows why." Daphne said. Her eyebrows came together. "What was the other name you mentioned?"

"Sirius Black", said Harry.

The two girls thought for a moment, and then shook their heads. "No that name doesn't sound familiar," Daphne said.

"If you want we could owl our parents. They might not tell us much, but it's worth a shot," said Tracey.

Harry looked at Ron and Hermione who both shrugged. What did they have to lose?

Later in the Gryffindor common room Hermione was still pouring over the old issues of The Daily Prophet.

"I owled my parents," a voice said. Tracey Davis sat down in the chair next to her.

"Thank you, but you didn't really have to."

"It was no problem really," Tracey said with a wave of her hand. "I just hope you can use whatever information they might have."

She pulled out her Transfiguration book. "I'm not sure I understand this," she said.

"Would you like some help?" Hermione said looking up from the newspapers.

"This makes sense to you?" Tracey asked looking at Hermione with her head slightly tilted.

"I think so," Hermione said trying not to sound to sure of herself.

"It doesn't make any sense," said Harry, pacing in front of the chair Ron was occupying. "Every one knows Lupin was there and he went to Azkaban, but no one remembers Sirius."

"Maybe Sirius wasn't there."

"You said Sirius was the one Remus attacked."

"Well that's what I thought at first, but it doesn't look that way now."

"If it wasn't Sirius then who was it?" Harry asked frowning at the floor.

"Apparently no one knows," Ron said shrugging his shoulders.

"Somebody must know something. Some one in the Magical Law Enforcement or some one at St, Mungo's."

"That doesn't do us any good. We don't know anyone at either place."

"Wait maybe we could ask your parents," Harry said.

"Ask them what? If we know someone at St. Mungo's?"

"No, ask them if they know who Lupin attacked."

Ron hesitated as he thought about what Harry said.

"We could do that I guess, but even if they know they might not tell us. Plus what if we're already suppose to know? They might think it odd that we're asking."

"Asking who what?" Hermione had come over to join them.

"Ask Ron's parents if they know who Lupin attacked," Harry said.

"Why would they know?" Hermione asked with a frown.

Ron thought about that for a moment.

"If they were in the Order they might know." He said.

That was something Harry hadn't thought of. They didn't really know who had been in the Order in this time line.

"How can we find out who was in the Order?" Hermione asked chewing her lip.

"I bet Peter knows," said Harry.

"Would he tell us?" Hermione asked.

"I don't see why not what's the big secret now?" Harry said.

"We wouldn't know the secret, would we?" said Hermione.

"How are we going to ask him?" Ron said. "We can't just say, hey Peter tell us every thing you know about The Order of the Phoenix."

"I think that's exactly what we should do," said Hermione.

Harry and Ron stared at her in disbelief.

"Why would we do that?" Harry asked.

"I don't think he would mind. In fact I think he wants to tell us."

Harry knocked on the door to the Caretakers office.

Peter didn't seem to be surprised to see them, in fact it appeared as though he was expecting them.

"Come in, what can I do for you?" he asked.

"Well we wanted to ask you about the Order of the Phoenix," Harry said.

"It's about time," said Peter. "I thought you would have asked sooner than this."

"Told you it would be alright," said Hermione.

"So you were in it?" Harry asked.

"Of course but I assumed Ron would have told you."

"I really wasn't sure if you were," said Ron

"You're probably too young to remember but we used to gather at your parents place. Sometimes the Order of the Phoenix would come up in discussion."

"I guess there's a lot I don't remember." Ron said.

"Were Sirius Black and Remus Lupin in the Order?" asked Hermione.

Peter let out a sigh. "Yes, yes they were."

"So what happened?" Harry asked.

"Well no one is really sure."

"So you don't know why Remus Lupin was sent to Azkaban?" Hermione asked.

"We know why. He attacked someone. I'm just not really sure why he did that." Peter said shrugging his shoulders.

"This person he attacked, could it have been Sirius?" Hermione asked.

"No," Peter said shaking his head. "It definitely wasn't Sirius."

"Are you sure?" Harry asked.

"Quite sure," Peter said. " I knew where Sirius was that night. We all knew where he was, and he wasn't at your parents house."

Harry wanted to ask where he was, but got the feeling Peter didn't want to discuss it.

"Why was Lupin there?" he asked. "Did he know Voldermort had been there or did he just happen to come by at the wrong time?"

"I imagine he came by at the wrong time. The house was under the Fidelius Charm or it should have been."

"So Harry's parents were betrayed by the Secret Keeper?" Ron said.

"Yes but the only two people who know who that was are dead. It was decided that James and Lily should keep that to their selves."

"So if it wasn't you, and it wasn't Lupin." Harry said ticking off the names on his fingers.

"How do we know it wasn't Lupin?" Ron asked.

"Ron, that wouldn't make any sense." Hermione said. "If he betrayed them he wouldn't want to be anywhere near the place."

"So it had to be Sirius." Harry said looking at Peter.

Peter tilted his head and frowned.

"Why does it have to be Sirius? Which I can guaranty it wasn't."

"Well then who else could it have been? How many friends did my dad have?"

"Your dad? No one said it had to be one of your dads friends your mom had friends too."
