Just The Way You Are, a ghost hunt fanfic

Hey guys I'm back . Ok this is a MaiXNaru SongFic, I came up with this when I was out shopping with my mother. "Just the way you are" by Bruno Mars came on in the store and the idea just popped in my head. So please enjoy it.

Gene: I think they will like it, but not as much because I'm not in it. (pouts)

Katara: (giggles) Sometimes I wonder if Naru really is the narcissist. (glances at Naru)

Naru: Katara I know I'm handsome. No need to stare.

Katara: (sweat drops) I take that back Naru the Narcissist lives on.

Gene: (chuckles and kisses Katara's cheek) Why don't you do the honor.

Katara: I don't own Ghost Hunt or the song Just the way you are. They belong to an amazing writer and Bruno Mars. On with the story!

Naru paced back and forth in his office, waiting for a certain brown-haired girl to return from her date. It had been 5 hours since she left, without calling or texting him not once the whole time. Everyone else was gone, even Lin was gone doing God knows what. Mai told him she would be back in 4 hours tops, but she was late. He was really starting to get worried.

Mai had really grown over the time he left. She grew tall, and developed curves that would make any member of the opposite sex, go mental insane. She grew out her hair, now it stops at her back, and her eyes go darker. When Naru returned, she agreed to come back and work for him with a little persuasion for the other members of the SPR team. Him and Mai had gotten closer ever since he returned from England, after Gene's funeral. They both considered each other best friends. They shared everything with one another. At one point Mai, had to move in with the dark-haired 19 year old. The brunette had financial problems, and Naru all but demanded for her to move in with him. A few months after that Mai started to date this guy from her school. She still loved Naru, but the boy was so persistent and determined she had to give him a chance. Naru wasn't happy when he found out about their relationship. In fact, he was enraged. He finally accepted his feelings for the girl, but it was to late he let her slip through his fingers. He regretted the day he told her she loved Gene. He regretted it with every fiber of his being.

His thoughts were interrupted by his cell phone ringing. He quickly answered it with an irritated growl.

"Hello"

"Naru" he paused as he heard the angelic sound of his brown-haired assistant. But there was something different about her voice. It sounded strained and she cracked a little as if she were crying.

"Mai, are you alright" he asked worry clearly evident in his words.

"Yeah I'm fine, but can you come and get me." she asked softly.

"Yeah, where are you" he asked already getting his coat off the rack.

"I'm by that café we always go to." came her soft reply.

"Ok, I'll be there in 5 minutes." he said heading out the door, getting into his black sports car.

"Ok thanks."she said before she hung up the phone. Naru sped down the streets of Japan, looking for a certain café where he would find his brown-eyed crush. As he said he would, he was in front of the closed café in 5 minute.

"Mai?" he called out.

"Naru?" a soft voice said from the ally next to the building. Naru look down the dark passageway to find Mai, sitting on the ground against the wall. Her face and arms had small bruises on them. Her eyes were red and puffy, probably from crying. Naru immediately made his way over to the girl and dropped to his knees in front of her.

"Mai, are you alright. What happened?" he asked, his emotionless façade slipping as he saw her busted lip and tear-stained cheeks.

"I'm alright but can we leave, please?" she asked softly give him a small smile. Naru helped her up and lead her to his car. The drive was silent, only the hiccups of the brunette was heard every once in a while. They finally made it to the large apartment they both shared. Naru helped Mai out of the car and inside.

One they were in the house, Naru could she the girl better. Her arms were bruised badly, and she had scratches on her face, and dried blood on the side of her mouth. Her clothes were messed up and torn in a few places. Naru felt his angry rise as he looked at her appearance.

"Mai what happen to you?" he asked in a very low and cold voice, successfully making the brunette wince at his tone. Her eyes started to water, tears ran down her bruised cheeks. Naru sighed as he brought the girl into a warm embrace, allowing her to cry in his chest.

"Did he do this to you?" Naru asked, hissing the word 'he'. Mai didn't respond she just continued to sob. She calm down after a while and was hiccupping every few minutes.

"Y-yes he did." she said softly after she found her voice. Naru's grip tighten around Mai as she told him this.

"What happen." he growled trying to control himself from storming off to find the bastard who hurt her, and beat the shit out of them for ever laying a finger on his Mai.

"I was out shopping a few hours before our date. I started to walk to the restaurant I was supposed to meet him at." she explained.

~Flashback~

Mai walked down the street happily. Her hips were swaying as she hummed, ignoring all the stares and glance she was receiving by the men she passed. As she walked by the café her and Naru normally visited after work, she saw a familiar ash-blonde haired boy sitting in a booth. She walked into the place and was about to call out to the boy when a blonde girl with light blue eyes sat beside him. He smiled at her and placed his arms around her. She returned his smile and snuggled into his chest. He chuckled, then grabbed the girl's chin with his index finger and thumb, bring her lips to meet his in a passionate kiss.

Mai shook her head, as she made her way over to the booth with the blonde couple. As the boy saw her, he immediately broke the kissed, and stared wide-eyed at the brunette.

"Oh, hello. Can I help you with something." the blonde smiled. Mai couldn't help but smile back, she could tell this girl was a good person. She felt kind of sorry for her.

"No, I just want to talk to your boyfriend here for a second. By the way, my name is Mai, nice to meet you." Mai smiled brightly at the girl.

"Oh my name's Yuki." she said cheery.

"Mai-" the blonde boy started but was interrupted.

"Save it, Kyoya. I saw everything and I believe you know what happens next." Mai said. The blue-eyed girl's head shot up. She looked in between Mai and 'Kyoya'.

"Kyoya? I thought you said your name is Haru." she stated. The blonde boy in question rubbed the back of his head nervously.

"I'm sorry, Yuki, I truly am, but your boyfriend here" Mai trailed off leaving the sentence open for the girl to fill in.

The blonde girl seemed to have caught onto what was going on, because she stood and smacked the boy as hard as she could.

"Well whoever the hell you are, we're through. You damn cheater!" she said she then turned to Mai and smiled. "I'm sorry, it was nice meeting you, but I have to go. I hope to met you again."

Mai gave her a sympathetic smile as the girl walked out of the café. She then turned back to 'Kyoya' who seemed to have a dark aura to him.

"Just in case you didn't know we're through too." she said before she too, exited the café. She started on her way back to her and Naru's place. She passed by the alley next to the café, when a strong hand grabbed her upper arm and pulled her into the ally. The hand slammed her against the wall and held her there.

"Mai, nice to see you again." she heard Kyoya's voice say. He then moved in closer so she could see his face in the darkness.

"Let. Me. Go." she said sternly earning a mad laugh from the blonde.

"Why would I do that. I have a few thing I need to tell you." he whispered into her ear, when he leaned down. He then slapped her hard across the face. "Don't you dare do that again! You stupid bitch! Who do you think you are!"

Mai was shocked to say the least Kyoya kept hitting her harder and harder with passing moment. She started to cry and tried to yell for help but was stopped by Kyoya's hand on her mouth.

"You scream and I'll kill you." he said. "You really are something. Why did I ever try to go out with you. I mean what was I thinking. I mean like at you. Your eyes, your hair, your lip, they are all hideous. Your laugh and your smile make me sick. What did I ever see in you. You are just a waste in space and air."

Mai was crying hard now. 'What he's saying is true Mai. Even Naru rejected you. He apparently thinks your disgusting. Why do I still try. Oh Mai get yourself together. You can't let him continue to hit you like this.' she thought. She then looked up at Kyoya with new determination in her eyes. She kneed the blonde where it hurts, then slapped him as hard as she could.

"You bitch! Whatever you're not worth my time and energy" he spat as she stumbled out the ally holding his hurt parts. Once he left Mai slid down to the floor and started crying. She then took out her phone and dialed the only person she could think of.

"Hello" came an irritated growl from the other end.

"Naru'

~End of Flashback~

"And you know the rest." Mai finished. Naru was enraged. How dare someone do that to Mai. How COULD someone do that to a sweetheart like her. Naru lead Mai to the couch, then went to get a wet towel to clean her up. He returned to find Mai deep in thought. He began to clean her face, once he was done the girl finally spoke.

"Do you think that too" she asked softly her glaze downcast tot the floor. Naru look at her to shocked to answer. How could she think he thought of her like that? He loves everything about her.

"I knew it." she answered taking his lack in response as a yes. Her body started shaking violently as tears streamed down her face. Naru didn't know what to do. He had very few options so he did something very un-Naru like. He walked over to his stereo and put on some instrumental music. He then made his way back to Mai and made her look at him as her started singing.

Mai just sat there in shock. Naru was singing. Naru was SINGING! Naru was singing?! Mai couldn't help but think what a wonderful voice he had.

Naru then held his hand out for her to take. Hesitant at first, she took his hand, and he lifted her off the couch. He then started to spin her around as he continued singing.

They then stared to dance as he continued singing to the 18-year-old girl in his arms.

Once the music stopped, Mai and Naru were in each others arms, starring to one another's eyes. They were engulfed by silence, before my broke it.

"D-did you mean" Mai asked as she continued to stare into his ocean blue eyes.

"Every word. Mai I love everything about you. You eyes, your hair, your lips, your smile, your laugh, they're all perfect and I wouldn't change one thing about it. I love you." Naru said sincerity written in every word.

"I love you too, Naru." Mai smiled at him. Naru smiled back. A true smile which made Mai blush a deep red. Naru chuckled at this then brought his lips to meet hers in a sweet yet passionate kiss.

"Do you really love me Naru." Mai asked breathlessly once they broke the kiss.

"Yes Mai, I love you just the way you are." he said before he crashed his lips on her once more.

At the SPR office, in Lin's office, the SPR team all stood gawking at the computer screen. They were all looking at the a spy camera they placed in Naru and Mai's apartment.

"Was that Naru." Ayako asked intelligently (A/N God don't you love sarcasm)

"I t-think so." Bou-san said as he stared at the laptop. Everyone was speechless, even a Lin seemed shocked. It was silent in the office until a certain dark-haired researcher spoke up.

"Well this is going on youtube. I can't wait to post it." Yasu said cheerfully.

"What about them" Mai said on the screen interrupting anyone from commenting after Yasu.

"I'll handle it." Naru said as he let go of Mai, and started walking in the direction of the hidden camera, while Mai stood there giggling. Naru was now in front of the camera, glaring coldly into it, the SPR team all froze.

"I'd suggest you not post that unless you want me to make your life a living hell." Naru stated coldly before the camera went black. Everyone was frozen, staring at the now black screen. All had very amusing looks of horror written on their faces.

Gene: Can you two stop glaring. The story was great, Katara you know that. (smile at Katara)

Katara: (smiles back at Gene) Thanks. You're the best.

Gene: (gives Katara a passionate kiss)

Mai: When did this happened.

Katara: When you and Naru were too busy with each other to notice anyone else.

Mai: (blushes)

Naru: (smirks)
