Epilogue
Killian kicked the side of his horse, trying to make him run faster to keep up with David. He knew he shouldn't have let Emma convince him to visit kingdoms, considering the state she was in, but she insisted that it would be a good idea for him to meet their allies and he did have a tendency to doing what she prefered. Luckily, once David read the letter the dove delivered, he was completely on board with going home as his son-in-law was. Killian kept kicking his horse until he was speeding next to the king.
"How much longer until we reach the castle?"
"Two hours. Maybe three."
"Bloody hell."
David looked over at the very stressed out man. "Don't beat yourself up about it. It's not your fault."
"I should've been with her. Now we don't know how she is."
"Killian, I'm sure she's fine. Emma is a strong girl."
Killian nodded. He knew Emma would be all right, but a small part of him couldn't help but worry.
They continued to ride, and soon Killian was able to see the castle from the distance.
"We're almost there," David said, smiling a little, "just an hour away."
With that incentive, the two men sped as fast as they could on their horses. Killian couldn't help but feel slightly bad for their horses; they would probably hate the two men for awhile. As soon as they reached the castle gates, he jumped off his horse and sprinted inside, almost tripping up the stairs into the foyer.
"Emma?" He looked around, hoping she would be somewhere close. She wasn't. "Where is she? Where's Emma?" he asked frantically. A guard pointed up the stairs, but couldn't get a word out of his mouth before the man left. Killian ran down the hall and into her room, relieved to find Mary Margaret and Eric standing around Emma's bed with their backs facing them. As soon as he stepped foot into the room, the queen spun around and smiled. She gently tapped Eric on the shoulder, causing the man to turn and smile as well. They both stepped out of the way, revealing Emma to him. She looked beautiful, even more if that was even possible, though her golden blonde hair was slightly frizzy and sweat gleamed on her forehead. She looked exhausted, but beautiful. Killian almost fainted as he slowly made his way toward her, noticing the little bundle latched to her chest.
Emma looked up and smiled at him. "Hi."
"Hey, love," he whispered, kneeling by her bed and cupping her cheek with his hand, feeling her lean into his touch, "how are you feeling?"
"Tired," she said with a small laugh, "but I'm alright."
"Can I get you anything, darling? Water? A pillow?"
"Killian, I'm fine-" She was interrupted by his lips pressed against hers, and she sighed against them before breaking away slightly. "Why don't you say hi to your son."
"A boy?"
Emma nodded and gently shifted the baby in her arms. "I wanted to wait for you to come back before we chose a name."
"He looks like you, thankfully," grinned Killian, "what names were you thinking of?"
"My mother suggested Nathaniel."
"Nathaniel," he whispered, then smiled, "I like it."
Emma's face lit up with a smile and leaned in for a kiss. She turned back, her smile widening as soon as she was her father. "It is our honor," she started, taking Killian's hand in hers, "to introduce you all to our son, Nathaniel."
Killian sat down on the bed next to her, gingerly brushing his hand over his son's head as their family came to meet the new addition to the royal line. He watched as David gently took Nathaniel's tiny little hand in his and laughed with everyone when the baby let out a small whine. Once Emma started to drift off, the parents left them alone, allowing both of them to get some rest.
"Do you want to hold him?" asked Emma quietly, trying not to wake their sleeping son.
"Are you sure that's a good idea? I mean," he said quietly, looking down at his stump, "I only have one hand. What if I drop him?"
"You won't, Killian. It's okay. Just make sure you support his head." She moved slowly, carefully handing the sleeping baby over to her husband.
Killian cradled Nathaniel in his arms, feeling the blonde rest her head on his lap. He turned his attention back to his son, who yawned in his sleep causing Killian to give a light chuckle. From the corner of his eye, he saw Emma grinning at them. "What is it, love?"
"Everything is perfect," she said with a sigh, her eyes fluttering closed as he ran his finger through her hair.
Killian pressed a kiss on the top of Nathaniel's head before laying him on his back between him and Emma. He gently kissed Emma's cheek before lying next to their son, his arm protectively over both of them. "Aye, it is."
