Hey guys, so I decided that I wanted to write some more GWTW poetry, even though I'm not writing any more limericks. So here's a songfic.
(Verse 1)
Tarletons, Tara, Scarlett O'Hara
Twelve Oaks ball, Rhett's got gall
To say what he thinks
Secession, Gerald's rage, Charles and Scarlett get engaged
Charles dies, Scarlett cries, oh, how the time flies
(Chorus)
We didn't light Atlanta
It was always burnin' since the time of Sherman
We didn't light Atlanta
No, we won't destroy it but we'll sure enjoy it
(Verse 2)
Going on the dance floor, Melanie is a big bore
Pittypat is even worse, now Scarlett has to nurse
Wounded soldiers everywhere, fear and dread are in the air,
Gettysburg was a big scare 'cause lots of people died there
(Chorus)
(Verse 3)
Melly's gonna have a kid, Scarlett's gonna flip her lid,
Prissy's gonna run and yelp 'til Cap'n Butler comes to help
He brings up a horse and cart that looks about to fall apart
Kisses Scarlett, leaves her there, acts like he doesn't care
(Chorus)
(Verse 4)
Melly's baby's name is Beau, Tara's cotton just won't grow
Scarlett swears there and then ne'er to be hungry again
Mom is dead, Dad's crazy, Suellen's just plain lazy
Mammy washes ev'ry blouse, deserter tries to rob the house
(Chorus)
(Verse 5)
Yankee tax, curtain dress, Scarlett's under great duress
Rhett says no, where to go, well, there's always Frank
Lumber mill, Ku Klux Klan, Ashley's still a dreamy man
Rhett proposes, she says yes, Nawlins honeymoon, I guess
(Chorus)
(Verse 6)
Bonnie Butler, Mrs. Meade, Rhett's a good papa indeed
Ashley's birthday goes all wrong, but they all still sing a song
Drunkenness, rape scene, Scarlett wakes up looking clean
Bonnie takes a great big fall, that's the saddest thing of all
(Chorus)
(Verse 7)
Melly's last words speak of Rhett, Scarlett's filled with deep regret
She runs home and finds him there, he tells her frankly I don't care
Then he turns and walks away, Scarlett knows that she can't stay
Tomorrow is another day, what else do I have to say?
(Chorus)
We didn't light Atlanta
It was always burnin' since the time of Sherman
We didn't light Atlanta
But when we are gone, will it still burn on and on and on and on...?
