No. It was not.
The Master approached the unsuspecting Larry and returned the favor by punching the living daylights out of him. Time Lord muscles. He loved them.
Ian and Rose protested and the Master whirled around and glanced at them in an icy, hypnotic fashion. "I am the Master and you will obey me... you will obey me..."
Even as a child, the Master had excelled at deception and manipulation, though as a relatively good soul he had little use for it. Now it came handy to him. He ordered Rose to follow him and took off for the TARDIS.. His TARDIS now, he thought.
Unfortunately for him, hypnotised Rose was not a great travelling companion as she no longer had the ability to... well, bicker. They moved through the gray forest in a pocket of silence, with the Master's thoughts filling his head. Although technically he had won, he had a TARDIS(and this time he would invent a device to remove its free will... no need for another meltdown) and he had Rose Tyler, whose mind was now malleable... he could convince her of anything. He could redirect her fondness for the Doctor for him. He could do that, yes.
The Master's gaze hardened with every step he took towards his new ship. The regeneration echo haunted him now, not for real, but in his mind... his reassurance that "it was going to be good" helped a little bit, but the fact was that he didn't want to regenerate, he was already in his ninth body. And it wasn't even 50 years old yet! Good heavens, he deserved better. Why had his future self used the echo anyway, for it required one's force of will to create a short-lived extension of one's thoughts. It wasn't easy, either so the Master had never bothered with it. Why would his tenth self do it? Was it perhaps trying to change his own fate? He just didn't have all the information. Perhaps the TARDIS he's returning to is a trap. Or Rose? Or the parallel Doctor wandering somewhere around here?
He felt his stomach rumble and realized that he'd eaten nothing, but a few pears since this whole affair began. Fantastic. The Gallifreyan chefs could've cooked up anything, but noooo, he had to go and get himself flung into this awful universe. He amused himself with illusions of roasted turkey and iced tea as he tiredly stumbled through vines and other mismatched plant life. That, unfortunately, lowered his guard until suddenly he found himself pinned on a tree with a gun pointed at his head.
"Now, now, Tyler, give the poor man a chance to explain himself, good grief." The slightly babbling, but authoritative voice came from a man the Master knew very well. It was himself... well, as Rose had explained, the Doctor in this universe. Or maybe it was the Master with a different name. Oh what was he doing? It was a complete unknown.
"My name is the Master." He said in a controlled voice. "Not the Master you know, Doctor, but one from another dimension. The girl is Rose Tyler, your future companion. From this dimension. It's complicated."
"Hmph! Complicated doesn't even begin to cover it! What are you doing here?! You are both completely out of sort... place in this time and pace...place(!)." Exhausted, the Doctor wiped his head with a handkerchief and returned his attention to the Master. "Well?! What explanation do you have for your conduct, hmmm?!"
Before the Master could say anything, Susan("oh good lord, this Susan looks like my sister!" the Master thought in complete bewilderment) piped up. "Grandfather, she's hypnotised!"
"Well, well, well. Still doing the same thing in spite of time, space and reality, eh? I should've known. You are a criminal, hmm! A criminal, sir! And I will not let you proceed! Where are you taking this poor girl anyway?!"
By now, the Master had had more than enough. "Well if you gave me a sodding chance to explain, perhaps I might!" His temper flared dangerously up and it showed. Feeble in his current form, the Doctor took an unconscious step back in front of Susan and Tyler. "But as of now, I will NOT!" His fury-filled eyes calmed into an even more dangerous coldness and those who looked felt themselves stiffen and their minds cleansed of all thought.
But not the Doctor. "Stop this insanity! I beg of you! Whatever it is that you're up to, I might be able to help!"
The Master sneered. "You? Help me? With your TARDIS, I will be free, with no Time Lords to put their high-handed demands on me! I am the Master and you... will... obey... ME!"
"NEVER!" The Doctor screamed, his aging brain unable to take the Master's huge mental pressure and he collapsed, defeated.
The Master grinned. "Never say never."
The Master and Rose Tyler climbed down the collapsed bridge to where the TARDIS was lying, helpless and unable to protect itself against this new enemy. The Master had stolen the key off of the unconscious Doctor and made a point to learn the lock combination so he wouldn't have to find another weapon the next place he landed. The two of them entered the TARDIS and the Master tapped in the instructions to take off.
He stretched his hands. "So, all of time and space, everything that ever happened or ever will... where do I want to start?"
The Doctor groaned in pain. His head pounded and pounded and pounded. He opened his eyes, but there was something wrong with them, the vision was blurry.
They're settling in. Some part of his brain told him. He tried to concentrate on the two people in front of him. The pounding seemed to become less frequent and less painful. Good.
"Grandfather, you made it!" Susan shouted with glee. The Doctor groaned again. "I... feel... very strange..."
Susan smiled. "No wonder, grandfather. You've regenerated."
Author's Note: I AM BACK! Okay, not completely. It's almost summer though and after losing even my Android(it was barely a year old, ;(...), I'm getting a new laptop with which to continue the story.
I admit, coming back to it, that I decided to scrap the pre-scripted Dalek Invasion Of Earth storyline for something a little more outlandish and well, my own(I'm just not the "steal scripts and insert your own story in them" kind of writer). That's the second time I've done that, here's hoping it doesn't become a thing where I just come back after a few months or years and go totally elsewhere.
Those of you reading this a few months or years later now have the permission to snort. :D
Also, completely out of context, but I've just done my first acting gig ever! And met my first fan! So the first step to me becoming the Doctor has been taken!
