The Latin Challenge - Imperium

This has been sitting in my hard drive for a while ...

Imperium

The war had been lost. Or won, depending on how you looked at the entire situation or which side you had been fighting for during the war.

The Dark Side had won the war. They had managed to defeat the Light's defenses by capturing and convincing the leaders to join them thus no rebellion followed.

The mass murder and absolute mayhem that had been expected had never come. He ruled with an iron fist, firm, commanding and surprisingly just and fair to everyone no matter which side they had fought for. He was the perfect autocratic ruler that everyone had expected although the fearfully anticipated bloodshed had thankfully remained notably absent.

Old stories, absolute horrors from the time the Light had ruled had been brought to the light. Stories that had been carefully hidden by the now dead leader of the Light, the horrible machinations no one had noticed were made known.

It was in some ways better than the rule they had previously been subjected to. The muggleborns and half-bloods that lived in the muggle world were not exposed to the fear of the unknown that muggled usually treated them with. They were removed from their homes if their parents or guardians showed the slightest tendencies to become abusive to them. A magical orphanage had been set up specifically for this purpose. All magical children had a primary education within the wizarding world so that every child entered Hogwarts with a minimum basis for knowledge and were about the same level. They encouraged children who wanted to learn more than they were taught.

It had taken some time but Voldemort's rule had become generally accepted as a good thing.

They finally accepted the choice of their 'Saviour' and knew that Harry had done what was needed for the entire wizarding world instead of doing the easy thing and following the Light. They could only imagine how hard it must have been for Harry to join forces with the man who had murdered his parents.

It had been difficult for Harry, exceedingly so, but only in the beginning while years of hatred had remained between them. They had decided after their first meeting to put aside their differences so that they would actually be able to make some progress instead of constantly fighting as they had ended up doing before they realized that they were behaving like children having temper tantrums.

They had ended up being both more, and less.
