Meeting Dr. Octavius

Chapter 21

Movie 2

Back at Aunt May's.

Peter cleaned up the last remains of the food left over; he put cling film over them and put them in the fridge for Aunt May. It was quiet now, MJ had gone next door to visit her mom and dad and Harry and Elena left to go to his or her place. It was just him and Aunt May.

Where was she? He turned and saw her head lying on the table. He sighed and walked over to her. He leant in closer to her while shaking her arm gently.

"Aunt May.."

She moved, "Oh, what, Ben? Hmm." Her eyes opened bleary still half asleep.
"Wait. Oh..." She realized she was in the present where her husband was not there..
"Oh, Peter. Oh, for a second there, I thought I was years ago. Everybody's gone, aren't they?" She got up from the table.

"Did they have a good time?" she asked.
"I'm sure they did."
"You okay?" She asked concerned.

"Of course. But you go home. And be careful. I don't like that scooter thing you drive around." Peter rolled his eyes but didn't let her see that. He changed the subject. "I'm worried about you. I saw the letter from the bank."

"Oh, my. You did?"
She got up and walked over to her purse. "Oh, Well. So I'm a little behind. Everybody is. Anyway, I don't want to talk about it anymore. I'm tired, and you better start back home. Here, kiddo. Happy birthday. You need it more than I do."

"No, I can't take that from you." He said pushing the money back into her hands.
"Yes, you can! You can take this money from me. For God's sake, it's not much. Now, take it! And don't you dare leave it here. Oh, I'm sorry." Aunt May started crying. He gave her a sad look. "It's just that I miss your uncle Ben so much. Can you believe that it's two years next month since he was taken? I think to myself at times,
were I to face the one responsible for what happened, I'd... Oh, I don't know what I'd do. Now, you better take the rest of your Cake home." She said wiping her tears away and going to the fridge.

"Did Elena take her half home?"

"Yeah her and Harry took a big chunk." He made to chuckle but found it difficult too.

Later when Aunt May was preparing his left over's. He took out the trash, mistaking that MJ was sitting on her back step. He couldn't get Aunt May's words out of his head. I think to myself at times, were I to face the one responsible for what happened.

If only she knew.

"Hey." It was MJ he whipped around.

"You're still here." He said smiling.
"I saw your billboard on Bleecker." They walked closer to one another the only barrier was the wired fence between them. As always.
"Isn't it funny? I'm really kind of embarrassed."
He was shocked how could someone so beautiful and talented. "Don't be. It's nice.
I get to see you every day now."

She smiled widely, "I liked seeing you tonight, Peter."
"Oh, boy, yeah." He said, despite the butterflies in this stomach threatening to explode. "Oh, boy, yeah what?"

Silence… she was waiting for him to say something here. "Nothing."
"Do you want to say something?" She whispered looking into his blue eyes.
He was debating whether to say that he wanted to be with her and tell her that he was Spiderman but in the end he knew he couldn't. He cleared his throat awkwardly.

"I uh was wondering if you're still in the village."

He saw disappointment in her eyes. "You're such a mystery." She whispered. She put a hand on his hair stroking it down his cheek. "Peter."
He fighted the urge to lean into her hand. "What?"
She looked at him, and took her hand off him. "Happy birthday." She turned around and walked away from him. She stopped all of a sudden.
"I'm seeing somebody now."
WHAT?! Woah calm down Pete. "You mean, like a boyfriend?"
She looked conflicted. "Well, like I like him."

"No." He whispered but not loud enough for her to hear.

"That's good, you know? Companionship..." He tried to smile, but only made it to half a smile.
"Well Maybe more than that." His brow creased in frustration. "More?"
"I don't know." She looked away.

"I'm going to see your play tomorrow night."

She smiled, stammering, "You're coming?"

"I'll be there."
"Don't disappoint me." She said.
"I won't." She gave him a smile and walked back into the house.

Oh boy….

The next morning…

Peter sat down on the bench outside while waiting for Harry and Elena. They were going to see Dr. Octavious. He looked at his watch and waited in anticipation for it. He couldn't wait to see him. Soon enough Harry's Bentley showed up and Elena got out of the car with a smile on her face.

He got up from the bench, "Morning Lena."

"Hey Pete. You had a good night." She asked. Harry talked to his driver, he wasn't staying he was only going to introduce them and take off for a meeting.

"It was ok. You?" he asked. He noticed her face went a shade of pink.

"Yeah it was amazing." She said shyly, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. He knew then what THAT meant and did not want to know anymore. Ever since she and Harry got together he did not ask any details of their personal life, and obviously they didn't give him any information about theirs. He told Harry once after they got together was not to hurt Elena or he would be on to him.

"Hey Pal. You ready to go in?" Harry in his expensive suit walked up to him smiling.

"Yeah sure let's go." The butler led them in, and called Mr Octavious.

"Doctor, Mr Osborne is here."

"Nobel Prize, Otto. Nobel Prize." Harry said while rushing down the steps to him.
"And we'll all be rich." He said taking his sunglasses off. Peter and Elena stopped beside him.

"It's not about the prizes, Harry." Mr Octavius said shaking his hand.
"Ah, but you need money. You need Oscorp."
"Who do we have here?" He said his eyes switching to Peter and Elena.

"This is my good friend I called you about. The guy who got me through high school science."
Peter shook hands with him. "Peter Parker, sir."

"Parker."

He turned to Elena, "So you're Elena Parker I presume."

"Yes nice to meet you Dr. Ocatvious." She said politely. Before Peter jumped back in, "I'm writing a paper on you for..."

"Yes, yes. I know what you're doing here, but I really don't have time to talk to students right now." Dr. Otto said.
Harry clears his throat, gesturing to him. "But Oscorp pays the bills so."

"That's right. That's why I have to take off. Board meeting. But my job is done here.
Got you two geniuses together. Good luck tomorrow, Otto." Harry said, he rushed to Elena giving her a peck on the cheek. "I'll see you later." Elena blushed at the surprised look that Otto gave her after Harry kissed her cheek.

"Nobel Prize. We'll see you in Sweden!" he laughed and ran out.

Elena smiled and shook her head.
"Interesting fellow, your friend." Otto said to Peter.
"Well, I won't take much of your time."
"Parker. Now I remember you. You're Connors' student. He tells me you're brilliant. He also tells me you're lazy."

"I'm trying to do better."

"Don't believe him, he isn't. " Elena joked.. Peter glared at her.
"Being brilliant's not enough, young man. You have to work hard. Intelligence is not a privilege, it's a gift. And you use it for the good of mankind."

Peter looked in the other room, "So is that it?"
"Yes. My design to initiate and sustain fusion."
"I understand you use harmonics of atomic frequencies."

The three of them walked into the other room where they saw his latest design.

"Wow, you made all of this?" Elena asked. Otto nodded.
"Sympathetic frequencies."

"Harmonic reinforcement?" Otto nodded, "Go on."
"An exponential increase in energy output. A huge amount of energy. Like a perpetual sun providing renewable power for the whole world."

"I so don't get all this science mumbo jumbo." Elena whispered to herself.
"Are you sure you could stabilize the fusion reaction?" Peter asked.

An hour went by and the four of them followed by Otto's wife Rosie joined them at the table with tea and a few tea cakes and biscuits. "Peter, what have we been talking about for the last hour and a half? This is my life's work. I certainly know the consequences of the slightest miscalculation."
She kicked Peter in the leg. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to question you."

"Rosie, our new friend thinks I'm gonna blow up the city. You can sleep soundly tonight." Rosie smiled and sat down next to Elena. "Otto's done his homework. Come to the demonstration tomorrow, and you'll see for yourself."

She turned to her husband. "And you need to sleep soundly tonight, Otto." Putting a hand on his arm. He sighed, "Did Edison sleep before he turned on the light? Did Marconi sleep
before he turned on the radio? Did Beethoven sleep before he wrote the 5th?"

"Did Bernoulli sleep before he found the curves of quickest descent?" Peter said.
"Ah, Rosie, I love this boy." He said drinking his tea. "Peter, tell us about yourself. Do you have a girlfriend?"
"Uh, Well..." how could he explain that one Elena thought. "I don't really know."
"Well, shouldn't you know? I mean, who would know?"

"It's a lot more complicated than that." Elena said for him, taking a bite of her biscuit.
"Well, leave him alone." Rosie scolded. "Maybe it's a secret love." She winked at Elena.

"Love should never be a secret. If you keep something as complicated as love stored up inside, gonna make you sick." It was true Elena kept her love secret from Harry for years it was tearing her apart inside until she found courage to tell him.

"I finally got lucky in love." Otto said to them.
"We both did. But it's hardly perfect. You have to work at it. I met him on the college steps, and I knew it wasn't going to be easy. He was studying science, and I was studying English literature." Elena smiled and put her elbows on her chin while listening to the story.

"That's right. I was trying to explain the theory of relativity. And Rosie was trying
to explain T.S. Eliot. I still don't understand what he was talking about."

"Oh, come on. Yes, you do."
"I'm serious. T.S. Eliot is more complicated than advanced science. But if you want to get a woman to fall in love with you, feed her poetry."
"Poetry." Peter said.
"Never fails." Otto said. His gaze changed to Elena who was sipping her tea.

"So what about you? What do you do?"

Elena smiled, "Well I'm training to be a veterinary nurse at college right now, I'm just on my second year."

"Uh huh, vetererinary nurse eh. I have a friend who qualified at 20 and is now on his own business in New Jersey."

"Oh that's good for that age, he must have been a quick learner."

Rosie refilled her cup, "Anyway what about you do you have a boyfriend?"

Before Elena could answer, "Oh I think she does you missed the little kiss on the cheek, Mr Osborne gave her before Rosie. She went beetroot." He teased.

Peter laughed, at his sister's expression. Rosie slapped his arm, "Oh would you stop teasing them,"

"It's fine, and yes I am with Harry." she chuckled.

Otto looked impressed, "So how long have you been going together?"

"Well nearly two years now…"

"Any plans for marriage?" He said without warning, she nearly choked on her tea.

"Otto!" Rosie said.

"No it's fine, and no not now, we're still young and we haven't really talked about that." Yet.

"I'm just joking with you Elena no need to worry. Harry is a busy man and you're a beautiful and intelligent girl with your whole life ahead of you. Explore the world first before the two of you settle down."

"Oh don't worry we will." She smiled. That's exactly what they were going to do.
