One Piece: Straw Hat Family – Fate's Path
Mika's First-Baby Encounter
Of Strange Happenings while at Sea
Today's episode had been edited for the adult viewers to understand more clearly. Please enjoy!
There sure have been a lot of weird things going on. Everyone is acting so weird, especially Mama and Dada. By the way, my name is Mika. I think I have a longer name, but I don't remember it too well. I think it has a monkey in it! I have a really, big family. There's Zozo, he can be scary sometimes, but it's funny when I throw stuff at him and he tries to play. Usoo has a funny nose and I like to grab it. Sa-sa can make all this fun mushy stuff that's great to play with and then throw, but I get yelled a lot for it. Bear is really fluffy and he can make owies go away. Aunty is really quiet and she's always holding these weird things that have pictures in them, but she is really nice and she always holds me. Fran-Key is really loud sometimes, but he brings up my favorite toy, Sunny. And then there's Boo, he's really tall and kind of cold feeling, but can make funny sounds that I like. But Mama and Dada are the funest. They always play with me and make scary things go away. And I love them lots! But still, there are a lot of weird things going on…
The first thing was what Mama and Dada told me…
It has been a few hours since the news of Luffy and Nami's second child. All of the crew was informed, all but one. As Mika woke up, she was greeted by her parents. A scene she was quite familiar with and also very happy to see.
"Hello there, sweetie." Nami greeted the young baby with a smile.
Mika babbled which was probably her version of 'hello'.
"Hey, Little Mikan, guess what?" Luffy suddenly popped up next to Nami wearing a large grin.
Mika squealed in delight not truly knowing why her dada was so happy.
"You're gonna be a big sister!" shouted Luffy excitedly.
Mika stared at her father. Though she could understand much about what the adults say, what her father said really stumped her. What is a 'big sister' and what did this have to do with her?
Luffy frowned when Mika didn't react as he thought she would. He turned to Nami and spoke, "She doesn't look excited."
Nami sweat-dropped. "What were you expecting?"
"Mika…" Luffy turned back to his daughter smiling. "You're gonna have a brother or sister!"
What did that mean? What's a 'brother or sister'? Is it delicious? I don't really understand what grown-ups say, but Mama and Dada are really excited for this. I hope it's something I can like too.
After a long time, something was wrong with Mama…
In actuality, the time had only been a week since when everyone was told the news of Nami's second pregnancy. Nothing much had changed, the crew was sailing between islands and the weather on this day was nice. The entire crew was out on the grassy deck. Some were enjoying some drinks, Zoro was sleeping off to the side, and Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper were teaching Mika how to use stairs.
"That's it Mika, one more step…" Usopp said as he and the group watched Mika climb over the last step.
Once Mika was over the final step, the group cheered making her giggle with excitement. As the adults cheered, Mika began walking around the upper deck. As she explored she took notice of what was above the cabin. "Mi!"
"Huh?" said Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper looked over at Mika hearing her.
"Mi! Mi!" shouted Mika as she pointed up towards the mikan trees.
"Oh! She wants a mikan." Chopper said finally understanding what the little toddler was trying to say.
"I'm on it!" Luffy stretched up onto the cabin. He then rushed over to the Mikan Grove to pick one of the mikans.
"What are you doing?" Luffy froze. He turned his head to see Nami, who was watering the grove, looking at him with a stern glare.
"Um…getting a mikan?" said Luffy innocently enough.
"Wrong!" Nami bopped Luffy on the head. The young man fell back and off the cabin. Usopp and Chopper quickly protected Mika from the falling man. Nami approached the railing as she continued to yell, "What the hell makes you think you can just pick one of my mikans whenever the hell you feel like?!"
"N-Nami…" said Usopp nervously. Chopper was just as scared as he hid behind Usopp.
"Mi-ka!" The only one not afraid was Mika. She once again shouted for a mikan, and this time getting closer to saying the actually word.
Nami heard Mika's shout. Nami's mood quickly changed becoming overly cheerful and mushy. "Hello princess, is there something you want?"
"Mi….Ka!" shouted Mika again as she pointed again to the mikan grove.
"Oh! You just want a sweet little mikan, my sweet little mikan." Nami said overly cute.
"Is she really saying that?" Usopp whispered to Chopper.
"Ye…ye…ye…" said Mika as she tried to say her new word. "Ye…yes!"
"Aww, just give me a minute." Nami went off to grab a mikan for Mika.
"Are you okay, Luffy?" asked Chopper as he approached his fallen captain.
"Yeah…" Luffy said rubbing his head. "I'm fine, no worries."
In no time, Nami was down on the upper deck holding a mikan and smiling. Before Nami could speak she notice Luffy rubbing his head. Nami dropped the mikan and started to cry. "Oh Oda…I'm so sorry, Luffy." She then took off.
"Wait! Nami!" shouted Luffy trying to reach out to her.
"Oi! What did you do, sh…stupid captain!" shouted Sanji angrily. He had quickly corrected himself knowing his carelessness in words could do damage on Mika.
As the adults began yelling amongst each other, Mika was more curious about the mikan. She walked over and picked the fruit up. She then recalled that her mother had run off. "Mama?"
I've never seen Mama cry before. I still don't understand why she cried. Later she was okay and Dada wasn't angry. But he was really kissy with Mama. Then I went to sleep in the really tall thing. I got to see Boo in the morning!
Then, after a really long time, Mama's tummy started to get biggier. It's like Dada's when he eats a lot, but Mama's doesn't get smallier. She can't pick me up as much as before. And her tummy, it's weird!
It has now been four months since the news of Nami's pregnancy and Nami is now five month pregnant. By this point it was noticeable that Nami was pregnant. While the crew was already used to this sight and already preparing for the arrival. But for Mika, the little girl found her mother in new fascination.
On this day the crew had docked at a spring island currently in its summer season. While many of the crew were out taking care of supplies, Nami stayed behind to finish work on some of her maps. Also staying on was Chopper, Usopp, and Zoro. While they stuck to their usual activities, Mika stayed close be her mother as she worked on her maps. While Mika enjoyed playing with her toys, she often wandered back over to her mother.
"Mama! Play!" shouted Mika excitedly as she spoke to her mother. In her hand she had a toy boat.
Nami stopped drawing and turned to her daughter. "No, Mika. Mommy wants to finish some of her maps."
"M…M…Maps. Play?" repeated Mika looking at her mother confused.
"No play, Mika. Work." Nami said before returning to her work.
Mika understood that her mother had told her 'no'. This made the little girl puff her cheeks out in anger. She wanted her mother to play. Mika walked over to her mother and grabbed her clothes trying to get her attention.
"No, Mika." Nami said a bit annoyed, but continued with her map.
Mika puffed out her cheeks even more so. She definitely did not like that word. Mika was about to get more violent with her mother, but when she placed her hand on Nami's swollen abdomen her hand felt something hit her. "Aaaaaaah!" Mika screamed and stepped back dropping her toy.
"Mika!" Nami soon stopped what she was doing and turned quickly to Mika.
The poor little girl was completely in shock over what had just happened. The little girl stared at her mother's abdomen wondering what had just happened.
"Mika, what's wrong?" asked Nami concerned.
"Tummy…owie…" Mika said as she pointed to Nami's belly.
Nami looked down at her belly and understood what Mika was trying to say. Before she could say anything, the door slammed open and in came Usopp holding his Kabuto, Zoro being dragged in by Usopp, and Chopper in Heavy Point. Usopp shouted, "No need to fear! The great captain Usopp is here!"
"Why did you have to drag me?" said Zoro sounding very annoyed.
"We heard someone scream." Chopper said speaking to Nami.
"It was Mika." Nami said to the group. She then placed her hand on her stomach. "She felt the baby kick and got scared."
"Oh thank Oda." Usopp said relieved.
"Mama?" Nami turned back to Mika as the little toddler cautiously walked back to her mother. "Tummy…owie?"
"No owie." Nami said with a smile. She walked over to Mika. She then took the toddler's hand and placed it on her tummy. "That's your brother or sister."
Mika looked at her mother confused. Once again she had heard those words 'brother' and 'sister'. She still didn't understand what they mean. And now, these words were connected to her mother's tummy that had previously hit her hand. And like before, Mika's hand was kicked. "Aaaah!" screamed the toddler.
"Oh, Mika…" Nami said trying to muffle a giggle.
"What's she so scared of?" asked Zoro staring at the toddler confused.
"She's doesn't know any better, Zoro." Usopp said pitifully. "I mean, if I were her and my hand was kicked by my mom's stomach I would find it downright freaky."
Nami turned to Usopp looking rather mad. "Oh, so my stomach is 'freaky', huh?"
"No, no, I didn't mean that." Usopp said with his hands raised in defense.
I don't know what my Mama's tummy can do, but I don't like it. Every time I touch Mama's tummy my hand always gets hit by…something! I don't like it.
After a really, really long time, Mama's tummy got biggier and biggier. Mama seems to get sore a lot too. We're staying at an island for a long time. Everyone is getting super excited about brother or sister. They even had a pawty for brother and sister. I tried looking for 'brother or during the pawty, but I can't find a brother or a sister.
Finally, it has been roughly nine months. Nami was now close to her due date. As such, everyone threw Nami another baby shower. Like last time, they gave Nami various items for when the baby will come. All of this was new to Mika. The little toddler was excited for the party even if she couldn't find this 'brother' or 'sister' that everyone was talking about. Mika wandered around the party quickly visiting with her family and then wandering off again. She was quite happy having a party and playing with everyone.
As Mika played with her father, the party suddenly went quiet. Luffy turned his head away from his daughter. He looked at the crowd confused. "What?"
"Luffy!" shouted Nami's voice sounding to be in pain. Luffy instantly stood up and rushed to Nami.
Meanwhile, Mika stayed where she was wondering where her father went to. She soon saw her family follow her father. She stared at the group and soon made her way towards the group. Before she could get too close, the crowd exploded as Luffy carried Nami upstairs yelling, "Baby! Baby! Baby!"
He was followed by Chopper and Robin. Mika was about to follow, but then she was picked up by Franky. "Hold on, Little Sis', you don't wanna be following them."
"Wanna…go!" Mika said defiantly.
The group laughed at Mika's stubbornness having clearly gotten such from both sides of her family. Sanji then approached Mika smiling, "Do not worry, princess, your dear mother will survive this ordeal."
Mika tilted her head confused not understanding what he uncle was saying.
Sanji soon was meet with a knock on the head from Zoro's sword. "Don't go confusing her, Ero-Cook."
"Grr, Marimo." Sanji said holding back from releasing a violent string of words.
Mika had soon lost interest in her uncles and turned in Franky's arms to see the room where her mother and father entered. She wanted to join them. "Mama? Dada?"
"Dear Mika…" Brook soon stepped in front of Mika and forcing her attention on him. It worked as the little toddler stared up, mouth open, at her uncle. "Shall we play music?"
"Boo…play. La-la-la-la!" Mika said with a bright smile.
"Yohohoho, indeed!" Brook said cheerfully.
Franky set Mika down. "Ow! Let's rock out, Little Sis'." Franky said as he pulled out his guitar.
"Here." Usopp pulled out her mini-xylophone and handed it to Mika. She squealed in delight and took the xylophone. She then began beating on her instrument. Franky and Brook soon began to play along with her. Mika was totally off-beat, but it did not matter. Brook and Franky played whatever party song they knew to accompany Mika's sound. Usopp and Sanji danced to the music like it was a party. Zoro sat by with his back against the group drinking. Secretly, he too was enjoying the music.
In time, Mika grew tired and was put to bed up in the Crow's Nest. Mika slept much like any baby, completely unknowing of what was occurring during her sleep. She didn't even wake up once due to Nami's pained screams. Eventually, came the morning. When the first rays of sun hit Mika's crib, the little toddler woke up. As she sat up to look around, she couldn't find a single member of her family. That did not last long. She soon heard someone walk up the stairs. Coming into view was Robin. She smiled as she saw her 'niece' standing up in crib with a wide smile. "Aunty!"
"Hello, Mika." Robin said as she approached Mika. She then picked the toddler up and began carrying her out. "Are you ready for a surprise?"
"Suu…wrise?" repeated Mika looking at Robin confused.
"Yes." Robin said with a smile. They both soon traveled down from the Crow's Nest. They then traveled to the upper deck where most of the rest of the crew was waiting. Robin and Mika walked pass each one.
"Mornin'" said Zoro.
"Good morning, Mika!" said Usopp with a smile.
"Good morning, Mika-hime." Sanji spoke graciously.
"Morning, Mika!" Chopper said cheerfully.
"Super good morning, Little Sis'!" shouted Franky with a grin.
"Good morning, dear Mika." Brook said politely.
Mika was happy to be greeted by her family, but she knew she was still missing someone, two in fact. "Mama? Dada?"
"In here." Usopp said as he opened the door to the infirmary.
Robin carried Mika inside. The moment she was in she saw her precious 'Mama' and 'Dada'. Luffy was sitting next to Nami as she lay on the bed holding something in her arms. They were both looking at it with a smile. When they both heard someone come in, they looked up from what they were looking for and smiled when they saw it was Mika and Robin. "Mika." Luffy said quietly but also excitedly. He then stood up and walked over to get Mika.
"Dada!" Mika shouted excitedly as she extended her arms out towards her father.
"Here you go." Robin graciously gave Mika to her father.
"Hi princess, were you good for everyone." Luffy said to Mika with a grin.
"Good!" Mika replied with her own grin, now almost completely toothy.
Luffy chuckled before looking up at Robin. "Thanks, Robin."
"T'anks!" said Mika copying her father.
Robin smiled at the two before taking her leave to join the others outside.
Luffy then returned his attention at Mika. "Mika, do you want meet someone new?"
Mika looked at her father and tilted her head showing her confusion. "New?"
"Yeah, look." Luffy carried Mika over to Nami.
He set Mika down next to her mother. Nami then extended one of her hands and caressed Mika's face gently. "Hello, sweetie."
"Mama!" Mika said happily as she grabbed her mother's hand.
Nami giggled at her daughter's silliness. This caused a soft moan to come from the bundle in Nami's hands. Mika heard this and tried to see what caused it. Nami giggled again. "Mika…this is your brother…Monkey D. Samuel."
Mika stared up at her mother. She had heard this word throughout the many months, and for once it wasn't accompanied with 'sister'. Mika then watched as her mother took her hand and lead her closer to the bundle in her hands. Mika stared down to see a small, chubby face in the bundle of cloth. She had never seen anything like it before. Eventually, the baby opened his eyes as well. His black met Mika's dark-brown for the first time for the rest of their lives. Luffy and Nami soon took notice that sister and brother had now consciously met for the first time.
"He's a baby, Mika." Luffy said as he sat next to Mika. "So you can't play with him just yet, but when he's bigger you two can play."
"Baybee…" said Mika with fascination as she continued to stare at baby Samuel.
"Luffy…go let the others in." Nami said sounding a bit tired.
"Alright!" Luffy quickly agreed and rushed over to the door. "Come on in, guys! Time to meet our son!"
"What?!" shouted Sanji's voice in shock.
"Ha! Told you." Zoro's voice said with satisfaction.
Soon all of the Straw Hats shuffled into the infirmary. They all crowded around the bed to take a first look at their new nakama. Little Samuel saw all his uncles and aunt, but his eyes always went back to Mika. As such, the little toddler didn't take her eyes off her new brother. The crew soon took notice of this. "Wow, she can't take her eyes off the little guy." Usopp commented.
"It must be strange for her. Meeting someone so much smaller than herself." Brook said lightheartedly.
"It's probably just the same for Little Bro'. Meeting all these big people." Franky said jokingly.
Mika soon picked up some courage and stretched out to touch the little baby. Everyone saw this action and smiled. "Aww~"
Though everyone found it cute, only one did not like the action. Not a second longer, little Samuel released an ear-cringing wail. The very sound of it shook the room making the adults cover their ears to muffle the sound even one percent less. Poor Mika, being the recipient of the scream, was completely blown away by the wail; literally. Mika fell off the bed and landed on her back with a loud thud. With all the adults wincing in pain, none of them noticed Mika fall off. Soon the wailing went down replaced with crying. Nami quickly went to calm the little baby down. The adults soon recovered from the deafening wail.
"Ah! Mika!" shouted Luffy when he found the little toddler on the floor.
Mika did not cry. She simply laid on the floor in shock before puffing her cheeks out in anger. 'I don't like him!'
TO BE CONTINUED…
Author's note: And thus, Luffy and Nami's second child is born! Don't ask me about where the name Samuel comes from, for it's probably the original author's special little tidbit as it's in his penname. But Monkey D. Samuel is born nevertheless.
