The Angel and the Devil

I don't own Digimon

"Who are you?" Daisuke asked the mysterious figure who was floating in the air above them. It chuckled, and cold and deep sound chilling her to her very bones, seeping into her head with malice. This was a being that could only be called pure evil.

"It is only fair that you know who will kill you. I am Daemon, the Demon Lord of Wrath. You've met my partner, Barbamon. As inconvenient as his death was at this time, you nevertheless saved me the trouble of killing him later. But you? You will die by my hand here and now!" the Digimon proclaimed as he held his hands out. "EVIL INFERNO!" He shot a massive wave of searing hot fire towards Daisuke, TK, and their Digimon. The air itself rippled from the sheer heat.

"V-BREATH ARROW!" AeroVeedramon roared as he fired an arrow shaped beam of energy towards the wall of flame advancing towards them. However, a sinking sensation filled the blue dragon when the fire attack simply effortlessly overpowered his attack and continued towards the two DigiDestined and their partners.

"Watch out!" TK shouted as AeroVeedramon grabbed them both. He and MagnaAngemon flew out of the way as the wave of fire crashed into the ground literally melting the concrete streets into bubbling puddles.

"This guy is no joke," Daisuke said as the two Digimon landed on the ground. AeroVeedramon set TK and Daisuke down.

"Stay here you two," he told them.

"Yes, I can tell this Digimon is no pushover. He may be even stronger then Barbamon," MagnaAngemon added.

"No!" Daisuke exclaimed.

"Daisuke…" AeroVeedramon started as Daisuke glared at him.

"Don't 'Daisuke' me AeroVeedramon. You know as well as I do that if you fight him now as an ultimate level Digimon you'll lose. We need to become UlforceVeedramon right now if we are to have a chance to defeat him." AeroVeedramon was silent before sighing. He glowed and turned back into Veemon.

"Alright Dai, but this better work," he told his partner.

"Do you honestly think I will give you the time to fuse?" the Demon Lord interjected with an amused voice. "EVIL INFERNO." Another blast of fire converged on the gathered defenders. They flinched just as MagnaAngemon stepped forwards.

"GATE OF DESTINY." The shining gate opened and the fire was sucked into the void. "Daisuke, Veemon, hurry!" the angel Digimon urged.

"Right. Veemon, let's do this. We defeated Barbamon, and we can take this guy down as well," she said pulling out her digivice. Her entire body was covered in blue data which glowed and became like a wild fire as the digivice beeped.

"Bio-Merge Digivolution," the digivice intoned as the words appeared on the screen, Daisuke and Veemon both glowed as they turned into data particles and swirled around one another.

"So this is how these pests defeated Barbamon," Daemon thought. "Sloppy, I went into this fight intending to take it seriously but I've already allowed them to reach the Mega level. No matter, I came prepared."

"VEEMON….BIO-MERGE TOO….ULFORCEVEEDRAMON!" Veemon shouted as he and Daisuke combined and reappeared as UlforceVeedramon.

"I must say I am impressed. A Royal Knight, and one of the more powerful ones at that to boot," Daemon said mockingly and he chuckled. "Perhaps I will find some entertainment in you. Shall we?" Daemon asked.

"Let's!" UlforceVeedramon shouted as she blurred from view and kneed Daemon in the stomach before she spun around and kicked him, sending him flying backwards several feet. When he came to a rapid stop and stood up, it was clear to all that he was uninjured by the assault.

"That tickled, like a tiny feather," Daemon mocked, making Daisuke inside UlforceVeedramon snarl.

"Oh you're gonna get it!" she shouted. Summoning her sword, Daisuke lunged into a furious barrage of slices and stabs. The first slash aimed at the Demon Lord's neck was easily ducked and the vertical follow-up Daemon side stepped. The next few attacks were equally as ineffective, and finally UlforceVeedramon lunged with all her speed and might to see Daemon splay his hands out for a moment.

"DOUBLE DUST." His claw-like hands glowed with black energy and he caught UlforceVeedramon's Ulforce Saber with his bare hands. Freezing with shock, UlforceVeedramon was unable to react as her enemy snapped her blade in half with his bare hands. Daemon did not waste a moment before engulfing her in another Evil Inferno, causing her to scream and fly out of the fire with a burst of speed.

Her twisted and blackened armor instantly repaired itself, leaving UlforceVeedramon as pristine as ever. "Okay, that hurt," she thought. "Frontal assault isn't working,"

"Any ideas Veemon?" Daisuke asked her partner.

"Maybe we try and use our speed and get behind him?" her partner suggested.

"Pretty basic, but it's worth a shot at least," Daisuke replied.

"So this is the mighty Ulforce. I think I can see just why you defeated my partner. Don't make the mistake of thinking that it will be the same against me. Barbamon made the mistake of underestimating you DigiDestined. He should have destroyed you the moment you stepped in the way of his plans. Instead, his attempts to kill you only made you stronger. Arrogant. It's rather fitting that he was killed by the very enemy he thought would never be a threat to him personally."

"Is there a point to this?" Daisuke interjected rudely, voice filled with irritation. Daemon sighed.

"People just don't appreciate a good monologue these days. Oh well. Time for you to die. DARK CURSE!" he shouted, and twisted dark purple lightning burst from his outstretched right arm and pierced through the air towards UlforceVeedramon, shrieking with barely contained energy.

Daisuke's mind raced a mile a minute at this new threat. That was not an attack she wanted to take if she could avoid it. UlforceVeedramon blurred out of the way, leaving an afterimage behind before that too faded. Reactivating her previously broken Ulforce Saber with a flick of her wrist, she reappeared behind Daemon, ready to eviscerate the evil Digimon.

"DOUBLE DUST," Daemon countered, and caught the blade with a glowing claw. He grabbed the blade and hurled her into a nearby building, the sheer force knocking down most of the front wall with a deafening crash.

"This guy is toying with them," TK growled.

"So it would seem," his partner replied. "Do not fear, they can handle him," he assured and TK nodded slowly.

"I sure hope so, you only are no match for him despite you having the type advantage," TK said.

"What am I a duel monster now?" MagnaAngemon asked with a small smirk and TK sweatdropped.

"This story ain't a crossover, don't get the author into any shit for saying that," he said.

"Well, you just broke the fourth wall," MagnaAngemon said and TK facepalmed.

Despite the devastating blow, it was mere seconds before UlforceVeedramon was standing once again. Sword in hand, she charged at Daemon in an instant. Unfortunately for the Royal Knight, her opponent was ready.

"DARK CURSE!" The attack came as a complete surprise to her and UlforceVeedramon was unable to get out of the way before it struck her, sending her back into the ruins of the same building she had just crashed into. This time she felt true pain. The Ulforce had always dulled the pain of injury when she bio-merged with Veemon, but against this attack it failed her. Dark lightning coursed through her body, causing both Daisuke and Veemon to shriek in agony.

Groaning, UlforceVeedramon got to her feet shakily. "Why," she wondered, "why am I not regenerating?"

"So it worked," a dark and familiar voice said from in front of her. Standing barely two dozen feet from her was Daemon, staring coldly at her but with visible satisfaction in his gaze. "It's over for you UlforceVeedramon. Without the Ulforce, you're nothing special. EVIL FLAPPING!" A massive tornado of fire that incinerated the building she rested in surrounded her in an instant, pressing in and trying to reduce her to ash. The sheer heat was oppressive and UlforceVeedramon could hardly breathe.

Her body wasn't fighting the burns that even now were slowly spreading across her body. For a single dark moment, Daisuke realized that she might truly die here… no! She wouldn't accept that! UlforceVeedramon sped upwards, trying to go over the fiery walls surrounding her. With a final push of speed, she flew over the top of the fire tornado and into the clear, cool air. Well, cooler than the atmosphere inside the tornado anyways.

"EVIL INFERNO!" Daisuke was knocked out of her thoughts by a shout, and quickly moved in an evasive action, narrowly dodging the burning attack.

Unwilling to remain on the defensive, she immediately moved into a counter attack. "RAY OF VICTORY!" She fired a V-shaped beam of golden light from her chest plate at Daemon who raised a hand in response. Another Evil Inferno burst forth and clashed with her own shining beam, and the collision shook their surroundings. Both combatants pressed their energy against one another and neither attack seemed to have the edge at first.

But slowly yet surely, the Evil Inferno pushed back UlforceVeedramon's Ray of Victory. The situation seemed to grow dark for the Royal Knight, even her vision tinged by the flames that pressed forward in front of her. She took a deep breath before letting it out. She had one alternative. It was not one she wished to use without the Ulforce protecting her, but it was the only move in her arsenal that could potentially defeat the Demon Lord.

"Come on Daisuke! Kick his ass!" TK shouted. His voice made up her mind. She couldn't let TK down and she wouldn't let Daemon hurt him.

"DRAGON IMPULSE X!" she roared, and her entire body was engulfed in a brilliant light. The light was a paradox; it filled her with strength, yet burned her very being. In this state of existence, her time was limited. "Prepare yourself Daemon!" Those words echoing through the air, UlforceVeedramon plunged forwards straight through the Evil Inferno, only slowing down towards the more intense flames at Daemon himself.

"What is this?" Daemon exclaimed, losing his composure for the first time. "How can you do this?"

Daisuke had no further interest in conversing with the Demon Lord. "Vanish!" she shouted as she plunged into him, creating a massive pillar of light that surrounded Daemon and burned at his Digital existence.

It was an attack that could slay even the strongest of enemies… and yet it was for naught. When the light faded, Daemon's robes were burned and tattered and his exposed skin appeared slightly withered. He was injured, but very much alive.

"You're… alive?" Daisuke gasped. Veemon was equally stunned. "But that attack could have annihilated Barbamon twice over! How are you still alive, let alone standing?"

Daemon was gasping in what seemed to be a combination of rage and pain. "I have not had such damage inflicted on me since my ascension to my current form. For that transgression… you will wish for death before it comes to you. I will start with taking what's most important to a weak mortal like you."

For a few moments Daisuke was confused, but she was filled with horror upon realizing the implications of Daemon's threat. "No…" she whispered. "TK run!"

The boy in question started in confusion, not having heard Daemon's threat. He understood Daisuke's plea moments later when Daemon turned towards him with an outstretched hand. "EVIL INERNO." TK watched his life flash in front of him. MagnaAngemon moved to create another Gate of Destiny, but knew he would be too slow. Just as despair took hold in TK's heart, a very familiar Royal Knight appeared in front of him.

UlforceVeedramon stood as a barrier between TK and certain death. Knowing that this attack could slay her as well as the vulnerable human behind her, she wasted no time. "TENSEGRITY SHIELD." A white mesh of crossed lines quickly formed into a solid white sphere that protected both her and TK from the incoming fire.

The fire battered furiously at the barrier for several seconds before Daemon seemed to realize that nothing was happening. "You think that will stop me? DARK CURSE." Once again the dark lightning shot forth, and this time it warped and shattered the shield. It was fortunate for the DigiDestined and their partners that the flames died off shortly after, but left a horribly injured UlforceVeedramon and a shaking human. MagnaAngemon has been hit by the edge of the attack and had reverted to Patamon.

"Daisuke!" TK screamed. The body of the one he cared about… perhaps even loved… was there terribly injured, and he was nothing but a burden. It seems like that's all her ever was to her. Fury filled his heart as Daemon chuckled.

"And that's the greatest threat out of the way. Now to finish her off," Daemon trailed of as he raised a hand that glowed with fire.

"No!" TK shouted. He knew what he had to do.

"What?" Daemon asked, slightly bewildered at being interrupted at this point.

"I said no! I won't let you hurt Daisuke anymore!" TK answered with fire in his eyes.

"Neither will I," Patamon said, standing in front of TK.

"It seems that you fail to live up to even my already low expectations," Daemon said. "Don't fear; you'll die along with her."

"We'll take our chances," Patamon said, and TK nodded.

"Your funeral. EVIL INFERNO!" Daemon roared, sending a wall of fire towards TK and Patamon. In the fire light TK's digivice began to glow. TK and Patamon were covered in green data.

"Bio-Merge Digivolution!" the digivice said as TK and his partner both digitized and swirled around each other.

"WHAT!?" Daemon shouted as he stopped his attack.

"PATAMON….BIO-MERGE TOO…." Patamon said and he and TK recombined into a familiar Digimon to Daisuke and Veemon. A tall angel with ten golden wings and wearing blue and silver armour. He had a helmet that covered his entire face. "SERAPHIMON!" he shouted in a mixture of TK and Patamon's voices.

"Another one?!" Daemon shouted. "Curse you! It seems the DigiDestined were created by the Sovereigns to grow stronger to match the threat in front of them. No matter, you'll find that reaching the Mega level means nothing; alone you will be crushed like your partner."

"Then I won't fight alone. It is over Daemon, no more will you harm our friends," Seraphimon said as UlforceVeedramon grinned weakly.

"Alright…take this jerk out," Daisuke gasped in pain as she lay on the ground.

"We got it," Seraphimon said. "HEAVEN's LIGHT." A soothing golden aura surrounded UlforceVeedramon and instantly the curse was removed, injuries vanishing before the viewers' eyes.

"That's better," UlforceVeedramon said. The Royal Knight stood, an aura of power surrounding him. As he and Seraphimon stood before Daemon, the air seemed just a little lighter, a counterpoint to the darkness that surrounded their foe.

Without another word, the two holy Digimon moved. Seraphimon immediately outstretched his hands towards Daemon and shouted, "STRIKE OF THE SEVEN STARS." Seven brilliant spheres the size of a fist sped towards their target who wasted little time in dodging. Immediately Daemon was forced to defend against the glowing Ulforce Saber that the Holy Knight in question threatened to drive through his head.

Bracing himself, Daemon managed to catch UlforceVeedramon's wrist before it could strike, both of their arms shaking from the strain. To the Demon Lord's surprise, his opponent's chest piece began glowing brilliantly. "RAY OF VICTORY," she proclaimed, and the blast struck an unprepared Daemon and blasted him dozens of feet away, his clothes torn almost to shreds revealing a twisted countenance.

He did not waste a moment and tore off the remains of his red robe, revealing a monstrous appearance, bulging muscles and warped horns being only two of his now prominent features. "So this was the true face of evil," Daisuke thought to herself. Immediately noticing another Evil Inferno forming, UlforceVeedramon took evasive action and disappeared in a blur of speed.

Daemon attempted to direct the burning attack towards Seraphimon, his primary target having vanished, but was interrupted by UlforceVeedramon's reappearance behind him. Caught completely off guard, Daemon was unable to react to the renewed attack and the Ulforce Saber drew a bloody gash across his back. He roared in fury before snarling, "EVIL FLAPPING!" A fiery tornado surrounded him and forced the Royal Knight back, but failing to injure her.

Taking advantage of his opponent's temporarily immobility, Seraphimon readied his next attack. "TESTAMENT." Lines of light gathered before his hands before forming a brilliant ray that shot forth towards his nemesis. The light pierced straight through the tornado and lit the night as it continued to race through the heavens.

The fire died down, but not trace was left of Daemon. The bio-merged DigiDestined were instantly on guard; there was no way that attack killed Daemon, let alone completely obliterated him. A strange portal formed in front of Seraphimon and in an instant the Demon Lord emerged in his full monstrous glory, hand outstretched. "DARK CURSE."

Once again the sickly violet lightning burst forth, and Seraphimon was far too close to have a hope of defending or dodging. The dark energy coursed through Seraphimon's body, lighting his every nerve up in agony and cracking his armor. The angel felt as if his very life was drained, his powers seemed to be beyond his grasp. Even as a human, he had never felt so weak.

Even as Seraphimon scrambled to reach his power, feeling that it was out of reach but slowly getting closer, Daemon chuckled. "As a Holy type Digimon, the damage you take from curses is magnified. You shouldn't be able to access your Holy energies anymore. Lie there helpless while I finish off your friend."

UlforceVeedramon was shaking in fury at what had happened to her friend. "How did you get out of there?" she demanded. "What was that portal?"

"Well," Daemon began, but before he continued a portal opened up, a gaping tear in space, and swallowed him. Barely an instant later another burst forth next to her, Daemon's body crackling with evil energy. "Find out yourself." Despite her surprise, UlforceVeedramon managed to fly out of the way, avoiding the crackling energy.

"So it's some sort of portal-based teleportation," she concluded to herself even as she dodged the Dark Curse. "Considering the number of Digimon that were with him, it's likely that he could use that to enter the Digital World at will. He'll probably escape if he feels like he's actually going to lose. I'll need to finish him off with a single move."

She pushed her speed and movements to their limit. With her Ulforce Saber raised, she moved to decapitate Daemon. If even her Dragon Impulse X was unable to fatally wound the evil Digimon, she would see how he'd live without a head.

Unfortunately she never got the opportunity to try as Daemon threw his arms outwards and cried, "CHAOS IMPACT." A crackling violet sphere of energy burst from his body, forcing her backwards. After several seconds the attack died down, and she wasted no time in plunging forth towards Daemon's position… only to find that he was no longer there. UlforceVeedramon realized that he must have used a portal barely an instant before he emerged behind her. "DARK SPORE."

A black light burst from Daemon's hand and entered UlforceVeedramon, causing her to spasm and scream before falling to the ground. Her blue armor began to slowly darken and the gold trim was losing color.

For Daisuke's part, it felt like a nail was being driven through her skull. Thoughts filled her mind with death and destruction, ruin and murder. It hurt it hurt why did it hurt have to stop it the pain too much Daemon's fault her fault Seraphimon's fault TK's fault everyone's fault had to stop it kill burn slash follow Daemon he'll stop the hurt. A strange lucid clarity filled Daisuke's and Veemon's minds. It wouldn't hurt so much if she had just followed Daemon. He knew just what was best for the world. When he ground it to ashes it would be rebuilt with new glory. Her armor was now fully black, her gold trim dull silver.

"Now my pet," Daemon sneered, "let's start by killing your friend Seraphimon. Finish him." With a nod, UlforceVeedramon walked towards Seraphimon's fallen and broken form, Ulforce Saber raised.

"Daisuke," TK whispered. "Please don't." She raised her sword and prepared to slash it through the Celestial Digimon's throat. "Daisuke!" She swung, but her sword paused barely an inch away from his throat.

This wasn't right. Why was she attacking Seraphimon? Makes no sense makes no sense why why why why." Even as she deactivated her saber, UlforceVeedramon clutched her head. Her blackened armor began to flare blue and black and she stumbled.

"This is new," Daemon mused. "Expected of a Royal Knight to resist my control to that degree. No matter, while she would make a powerful pet there's no guarantee that the Ulforce wouldn't eventually override my control. Vanish forever. EVIL FLAPPING!" The twister of fire began to engulf both the staggered UlforceVeedramon and the fallen Seraphimon, melting the ground around them and burning their armor.

It was indeed fortunate for the DigiDestined that Seraphimon managed to reconnect with his Holy energy at that moment. "HEAVEN's LIGHT!" he shouted, and a beautiful burst of light pushed the fire back. Through the smell of sulfur in the air came that of a beautiful flower, the soothing light bringing a sense of calm and peace to all watching save for Daemon himself. Daisuke froze as it banished the voices that plagued her and her strength once again returned. With a slash of her saber, the flames were dispelled.

Daemon growled in fury. This wasn't supposed to happen, he was supposed to kill UlforceVeedramon and then finish the other off before he could bio-merge. He was supposed to have taken Seraphimon out of the fight permanently, not temporarily. He was supposed to have placed UlforceVeedramon completely under his control and not allow hesitation. With his greatest weapon, his curses, rendered less useful, Daemon no longer was confident he could defeat the two at the same time. It was time to cut his losses. After all, soon he would achieve strength beyond their wildest dreams…

The DigiDestined gasped as a large portal formed above Daemon. This one showed a small stretch of a grassy expanse that the two nevertheless recognized as part of the Digital World. "I will take my leave now," Daemon told them. "Remember that this isn't over. It will never be over as long as I breathe." With those last words, Daemon entered the portal and it closed behind him, leaving the DigiDestined behind him.
