Chapter 2

Sarah was sitting on a bench at the airport fiddling nervously with her hands as she kept glancing at the clock and back to the time on her ticket every 2 minutes. She had been lucky to be able to be put on a flight just one and a half hour after she had arrived. At first she felt relieved but now when the clock slowly ticked towards boarding time she started feeling nervous and sick instead. What would her parents say? What would her whole family say? Hi Sarah... so it didn't work out again huh? I'm sorry! And then what? Would they give her a hug or just shake their head and look at her with a sad look in their eyes. There have been many times that she had felt like a failure in life, and she was sure that after her family had given her their hug or look or whatever she wouldn't feel any different than she did the last time. Although this actually wasn't a failure, she was expecting a baby, she loved kids, and she loved her kids, but it was the fact that she was expecting it with him, the guy she had left for another guy that made her feel like things once again had gotten screwed up.

She took a deep breath and shook her head to clear it from all her thoughts when the announcement that her plane was going to start boarding in a few minutes came on over the speakers in the airport. She stood up to collect her things and moved closer to the gate as she waited to start boarding. Once inside the airplane she found her seat and slumped down into it with a big sigh and turned to look out through the window. As the safety instructions where playing on the screen she stared at it with a blank expression, not even hearing what they said, the fact was that she didn't want to hear it, the last time she had heard those instructions, she had been sitting on a plane to Minnesota, a plane to Hank, a plane to a new phase in her life, a plane to the right thing in her life. But now, only a few months later she was sitting on a plane that looked exactly the same, only this time she was heading in the opposite direction and the most heartbreaking thing of all, she was heading away from her future with Hank, away from her new and perfect life, instead of moving forward she felt like she was moving backwards and that thought made her heart break.

As the plane set off, she leaned back in her seat and looked out the window again and as the plane lifted over the airport in Minnesota and came to its height thousands of feet up in the air she felt a single tear rolling down her cheek as her brain finally caught up with her. Goodbye Minnesota, goodbye perfect life, goodbye... Hank.

Zeek had told everybody to come over for a special dinner. And they all showed up, even Drew. But one member of the family was missing, one he didn't told about this speccial dinner and the one that he missed a lot because she had moved away not that long ago after living under his roof for a long time. His first daughter and second child Sarah. There was a special reason for this dinner and Zeek was curios to tell his family. As everyone slowly got there Zeek went around the rooms and said a quick hello to everyone until he went to the kitchen to see if he could help his wife with the food.

"This smells delicious, Grandma!" Sydney said as she entered the kitchen.

"Thank you, Sweety!" Camille answered with a small smile on her lips.

"Can I help you? The little girl asked in a hopeful tone.

"Yes, you can cut the tomatoes for the salad."

"Uh, I'm really really good at that" Sydney said as she climed on a chair, the plate with tomatos in front of her.

"But be careful with the knife, we don't want you to hurt youself!"

From the other room you could hear screaming and laughing of kids running around the house and playing games and the adults talking.

"I wish Aunt Sarah could be here, I miss her!" Sydney said and Camille looked at her suprised.

"Yeah me too, kiddo!" Zeek said in a deep voice.

"It was always so much fun with her!"

"With who?" Amber asked as she also entered the kitchen, quickly followed by her boyfriend Ryan. "Aunt Sarah!" Sydney answered and jumped off her seat to run over to Amber to give her a big hug.

"Hey little girl, nice to see you again!" Amber said and smiled.

"Amber!" , now the others became aware of her arrival and came to say their hello. As everyone of them was in the kitchen Zeek thought it would be the perfect moment to tell them his news. He was to excited about it to wait until the dinner was served.

"Quiet! Please be quiet I have something to tell you..." Heads turned to Zeek and he knew he had their attention. "So the reason, we all came here is that I have something really important and really cool to tell you all"

They was mumbling everwhere in the room and Zeek cleared his loudly for everyone to hear. "I got a new acting job at the Berkley Theater and I'm playing the main role, isn't that aweeeeeesome?" Zeek said in a really happy tone. There was silence for a few moments in the room, everyone of them progressing what Zeek just told them and then they all broke up in applause and happy laughter, everyone of them relived that for once there were good news. They were so loud and distracted by talking over each other that they didn't see the person making her way quietly to the middle of the room.

"Hey!" She said quietly and everyone turned around her, facing a member of their family they had missed, a lot over the past few months.

"AUNT SARAAAH!" Sydney was the first one to react. She jumped into Sarah's arms.

"Hey little girl!" Sarah said as cheerfully as she could and picked Sydney up.

The other members weren't as cheerful at first but as they realised that this was real they all lined up to welcome Sarah. Noone asking her why she came.

"Aw, look at you my little girl!" Sarah said and smiled as she hugged her eldest child.

"I can't belive you're back!" Amber said. "I've missed you!" She said sadly, her voice quiet. And it wasn't until that moment when Sarah realised what she had done to her children. She just moved away not giving them the time to prepare, not asking how they felt, not really thinking about how they might feel without her. Of course she had thought about what would be with her kids when she would be gone but she never had thought about their feelings. She thought that they were grown up now, they didn't need her anymore. She was obviously wrong and she seemed to have find a positive point of moving back to Berkley. "I missed you too sweety, I missed you too" Sarah whispered as she hugged Amber even closer.

Later that evening after dinner was eaten and news were exchanged, Sarah sat down on the porch in front of the guest house, house where she once used to live, way back before she even met Mark before moving back and then moving away with Hank, she shook her head as she realized that no matter how long she was away the old guest house always felt the same.

She had taken a glass of water with her and sat it down next to her. How many nights had she been out here and was writing? It seemed like such a long time ago. She always had enjoyed writing. She had ended doing it when she got her job at Hank's studio. She should start again. That as what she promised herself that night among a lot of other things. She promised herself to finally start writing again.

She heard footsteps coming over to her from the main house. As she looked up she could see Adam slowly coming over to her.

She put her glass down and looked up at him as he got closer and cleared his throat.

"Hi" he simply said and looked at her with concern as he gestured to the stairs next to her, indicating if he could sit down as she nodded in acceptance and scooted a little so he could sit down. They sat in silence for a while, both sipping their drinks until Adam looked at her,

"So.. I didn't expect to see you home for dinner tonight." He said with concern in his voice. Sarah just shrugged "Well… my plans got changed" She said simply as she looked down and took another sip of the water. Adam shook his head.

"Okay what's wrong? I know something's up. You're my little sister, I know you. Come on and tell me" He demanded and waited patiently for his sister to start talking.

"It just…. It didn't work out that good between Hank and me like I thought it would, and… and he left" She said as she started to choke up " So… I came back. I didn't know where else to go. I know it's pathetic because this is always what happens. Things don't work out and I run back home to mom and dad. I just had to go." She said as tears slipped down her cheek and she buried her face in her hands.

Adam looked at his sister in shock, he knew that whatever reason she had, to suddenly show up here again probably wouldn't be a good one but he didn't expect it to make her cry. Sarah wasn't the one that just broke down and cried when things got hard. Yes she had a broken past but she was stubborn and didn't give up on things. He didn't believe that just breaking up with Hank wouldn't get her to cry this much,

"Sarah, is there anything else that's wrong? You can tell me anything, you know that, right!?"

Sarah shook her head and wiped her tears away.

"No, there's nothing else, we broke up. That's it. I would tell you if there was anything else." She answered as she took the last sip of her water. Adam nodded as he stood up

"Okay, just let me know" He said. "I should probably head home, it's getting late, I should let you get settled in"

He said as he started to walk away with a small wave.

Sarah nodded and watched as he walked away and opened her mouth " Adam!" she said and waited for him to turn around.

"Thanks for this, for being here. " She said with a small smile on her lips. Adam just nodded.

"Of course, that's what family is for" He said as he turned around and walked over to the main house to get Max and Christina. Once he was inside Sarah slowly stood up and walked inside the guest house, feeling a bit lighter in her chest. For the first time since she had left Minnesota it actually made her feel a little less like a looser.

Ever since she had left him it was bad. Really bad. His newest client at the new studio turned him down because he was being too grumpy these past days. His car had broken and the housekeeper of his apartment had yelled at him for coming home at two in the morning and having a little too much to drink. A thing that has happened a lot lately.

But the worst thing of it all was that his heart had been broken, again. He had loved her, really loved her and had been, still was so angry about everything that happened. It wasn't himself that had screwed it up. It wasn't her either. It was this guy.

He had been there even though they were so wrong for each other. And then she got pregnant by him, the other guy.

He was just a little boy, way too young for her. He had been a cute little toy but that wasn't what Sarah had been thinking and that was what really freaked him out. She had, maybe still did loved him, not just that but she had been madly in love with this boy at some point.

Hank set down his empty whiskey glass. "Another one, please!" He mumbled to the bartender. Here he was, sitting in a hotel bar by himself, ordering one drink after another, waiting for the time to go by.

He wanted it to be morning already so that he could go over to this house he never wanted to go to and tell him what he thought.

He was going to say to him to turn her down, to leave the baby and Sarah alone so that he could be with her. So he could raise the other man's child. To finally get the happy family again he had wanted for so long now.

Hank finished his drink and decided that it was enough for one night because he didn't want Sarah to have another alcoholic as an husband.

Yes, he planned to marry her. He had actually thought about it even though he knew it was too soon.

Sadly he stood up, his mind foggy from the alcohol. He couldn't walk straight. And so he made his way up to his room, slowly stumbling over the hotel floor.

He remembered that night in LA where he and Sarah had gotten drunk when he had tried to make things right between his ex-wife and his daughter. It had been a fun night and it was the second time since they had known each other that he actually had allowed himself to picture them, together.

She had been engaged at this time. But did he care about this? No, not really because he wanted to be with her. And his plan had succeeded.

He had won her and he would not let her go again without finding.

As he made his way towards his room, he went directly to bed. He fell into a deep sleep.

The next morning he got up a little after noon. After that he went to breakfast, well it was lunch actually but not for him and it was a great food for people with a hangover.

After lunch he called the reception for a cab and as he told the driver where to go, he was beginning to feel nervous.

The drive didn't take long and as he stood in front of the apartment building he prayed that Mark would be home. It was a nice Tuesday afternoon and the sun was burning down on him.

He climbed up the trees of the building and knocked on the door. After what seemed like forever, finally Mark appeared in the door frame. Oh how Mark just wanted to knock him out. But that wasn't why he came, maybe later but he had to talk to him first.

"It's your fault!" Hank started his speech.
