Chapter 3:
Train and Akemi were taking a break from Sven and Eve by going up to the roof of a building they were staying in, staring at the sky. It was probably 2 months since Sven and Eve began following them around, so Train called it. Akemi had become more comfortable with being out in the open where there wasn't much light… so long as Train was nearby she was okay with just about anything… But the night before, Train had found a note outside the window of the room they were staying in.
"I'm coming back for her."
The envelope had Coven's symbol drawn on the back. Train glared a little at the sky, trying to keep calm, but it must have been visible on his face… "Stop glaring, Train." Akemi stated, patting his back without looking at him. "… Its bad for your pretty face." She turned to look at him, smiling a little more normally than before.
"… Sorry." He leaned over and pressed himself a little closer to her, the bridge of his nose resting against her cheek. She just pet his head a little as he exhaled slowly, trying to get himself back down to earth. He hadn't said anything, but he assumed Akemi already kind of figured out why he'd been so bothered today. "… What should we do?"
"… I would feel bad, if we just left Eve and Sven alone… but… I don't know if Coven would follow, or go after them…" she mumbled, seeming a bit bothered. "… So… for now… we keep a distance that allows us to make sure no harm comes to them… but still far enough to keep them from finding us…" she stated simply.
"… Are you satisfied with that?"
"… No… but…" she bit the inside of her cheek. "But… I'm still too scared to fight Coven head on…" she mumbled to him as he drew back and kissed her cheek, trailing down to her jaw, but stopping there. "… Why did you stop?"
"… You're upset…" he stated. "Because of all this…" his eyes narrowed a little at the thought. "Until you're really safe, you'd prefer I not continue from here…" he looked up at her, his yellow orbs meeting her lavender ones. "Though I can't quite guarantee that I won't…"
"… You know me so well…" she mumbled, smiling a little and leaning into his shoulder to keep herself from crying. "… This is why I can't stand to live without you now, you know." She mumbled, clinging to his jacket as Train pulled her into a one armed hug.
"… Does this mean we need to get married or something?" he asked, chuckling.
"Oi oi, I'm not ready to settle down… Not like I'll ever be." She mumbled. "… after all…" she looked up at Train. "… A Cheshire is meant to fade into the background… but at their own pace…" she smiled up at him. "And I don't intend to retire from being a sweeper for a while…"
"… che." Train grinned, tousling Akemi's hair. "Then, we feel the same way." He stated, petting her head to smooth out her messed up hair. "But for now, we'll do things your way." He said, standing up and helping her off the roof before returning to their room. They packed the few things they had and left without a sound.
A few days went by, and Train had been keeping a close eye on Akemi. She had been rather reluctant to talk to anyone aside from Train, and she'd been avoiding the windows and if Train went somewhere alone, even for a few minutes, she began glancing around in a paranoid manner again. The brunette was at a loss. Akemi's condition kept changing and he wasn't sure what he could do for her anymore. But the two were fine, for the time being…
At the moment, Train was waiting for Akemi to finish her bath, the woman having thought she saw someone standing outside the window and spilling her stew on herself. She looked so freaked out; Train could even feel her shaking when he helped her up. Though she didn't really react to being helped out of her clothes in the bathroom and being checked over for burns, he knew she was losing it a little bit. Just the two of them wasn't really enough anymore… she needed the company of others. As he was thinking about it, Akemi emerged from the bathroom, dressed in Train's shirt and her own shorts. "Sorry…" she mumbled.
"Don't be." He tousled her hair and pulled her to sit in his lap, hugging her so his face was pressed against her chest. He's seen all the marks, scars, and tattoos all over her. "… So those things on your legs… Nano machines?" he asked, having heard her mumble it when he asked her while he was helping her out of her clothes earlier. She only nodded in response. "Nn…" he nuzzled her a little and pushed his nose into the opening of the shirt, closing his eyes. "You're all beat up…" he mumbled, making her squirm a little, feeling his breath on her skin. "…?" he looked up at her and smirked. "Don't tell me you're only feeling like that now, after I went through all that trouble earlier…"
"Sh-shut up." She muttered, feeling the heat rising in her cheeks. But she wasn't at all resisting, as always. But today, Train could feel that they were being watched too, so he decided to take things into his own hands, and see what would happen. He slid the shirt up and moved his hands along the small of her back, closing his eyes half way as he felt her lift her hands to wrap around his shoulders. As his hands moved up her back and caused her to arc towards him, her fingers tangling themselves in his locks. "Tr-train…" she whispered, sounding slightly apprehensive.
"It's fine, isn't it?" he murmured to her, falling back on the bed and staring at her as she locked eyes with him, blushing and seeming like she couldn't move. "You don't hate it, do you?" he asked, seeing her shake her head. "… Then… promise you won't scold me when I'm done…" he said, pulling her down on top of him and holding her close, glaring at the window before pulling Akemi closer and pulling her under the covers. Akemi just stared at Train, accepting what he gave her and giving back when she was able… despite having seen him glare at the window, the normal fear didn't come… She knew he was there… watching… but she was too lost in what was going on to care much after a minute… in fact she practically forgot about it.
"Geez…" Akemi was pouting and curled up away from Train by the time the sun came up. Train was grinning, though, his arm wrapped around Akemi's waist.
"Don't be so mad…" he muttered, nuzzling against her shoulder as she pouted more. "You were enjoying it… you just don't want me to embarrass you more now that the sun is back…" he chuckled. Akemi just turned away more and hid her face under the blankets, only to have Train pull her back against him, moving the blankets so they were pressed against each other, skin on skin. Akemi's face practically exploded with steam.
"Tr-train!"
"Stop getting so worried…" he mumbled, sighing a little. "You were so sweet yesterday…" he grinned. "And so affectionate, I've never seen you so willing to cling to me~"
"Th-that's because you were-!" she stopped herself and hid her face. "Geez, enough talking about it!" she exclaimed. "Let go, I need to bathe."
"Nnn, but I wanna go with you…" he pouted at her, making her blush. "Neeee?"
"N-no way, you pervert." She muttered, grabbing Train's shirt that he'd taken off of her not long after their previous activities had started, slipping it on before retreating into the bathroom to bathe and get ready. Train just watched her, smiling before rolling onto his back and sighing.
"Well, at least she's feeling better…" he grinned, sitting up and grabbing what was left of his clothes so he'd be decent when Akemi came back into the room. He heard the water running and grinned to himself. "Man, I guess I am the perverted one…" he shrugged, getting up to go and see his new lover in the shower. He opened the door and she paid it no mind, he assumed she was thinking too much about something. He slipped back out of his clothes and opened the shower door, making Akemi whip around and almost whack him in the face with the shampoo bottle. "Whoa whoa, easy." He chuckled, glancing down a little and making her cover her chest. "Ah, so I did leave marks." He chuckled, seeing a few red spots where he'd been marking her.
"…" she just averted her gaze and hid her face behind one hand, Train petting her head.
"Sorry sorry…" he smiled. "… aren't you going to scold me?"
"… I can't be mad at you for that…" she mumbled. Train smiled and pet her head, waiting for her to move her hand and put the bottle back down before wrapping his arms around her, pulling her back towards him. "… you knew he was there…"
"Yeah, so I wanted to show him that you're mine…" he stated with a smile. He wasn't paying any mind to this situation… or at least it didn't seem like that. Akemi felt a pang of something she didn't really understand in her heart… "… Akemi?"
"… So last night was just to piss off Coven…?" she asked in a whisper. Train sighed and shook his head, turning her around to face him.
"No, it was NOT just for that…" he stated, staring at her. ".. Akemi, how could you ask that?" he asked, staring right at her, almost glaring at her. When she tried to turn away, he backed her into a wall and kissed her hard on the lips.
"… Train…" she mumbled once he was done kissing her.
"… I'll wait for you outside." He mumbled, letting go and stepping out of the shower, drying off quickly before getting his clothes back on and going to wait for her in the main room again. Akemi stood there, staring at the door before sliding down into a sitting position.
"… Train…" she mumbled, feeling tears flow down her cheeks. "I'm so sorry…" she stated. "I didn't mean to…" she tried to stand but she just couldn't find strength in her legs. So she sat there and cried. "… Train, please don't be mad at me…" she whispered, unable to see straight thanks to the tears.
"… Not mad." Train stated through the door, having leaned against it to wait for her. "Stop crying and finish your bath…" he stated. "Or I'll eat all the food without you." Akemi wiped the tears away and hurriedly did her best to finish cleaning up before dressing and going to where Train was. "Ready?" he asked, smiling like he always did. Akemi took his hand, Train sighing and leading her to the restaurant they had been going to recently. Neither one spoke on the way to the restaurant, seeming to know that they were okay now.
Train awoke to his head throbbing, like he'd been hit… wait… hit… with something heavy… "AKEMI?!" he sat up to see Sven and Eve sitting next to him. "Where is Akemi?!" he exclaimed, trying to get up only to be stopped by Sven.
"Train, calm down!" Sven stated. "We found you knocked out on the roof of a building, what the hell happened?" he asked after Train settled enough to sit back down. Train grit his teeth, but did his best to recall things.
"… Akemi was dizzy…" he stated. "She didn't feel well, so she went to the roof…" he stated. "… we were talking about what we were gonna do when… when…" he bit his lip. "That bastard Coven showed up out of nowhere and grabbed her… I couldn't get to her fast enough…" his lip began to bleed. "I got hit by something heavy and knocked out… Akemi was crying!" he slammed his fist onto the bed. "… she was crying and I couldn't save her…" he hung his head.
"… we'll get her back." Eve stated. "We'll get her back, Train…"
Akemi had nearly killed Coven enough times to make him too tired to try and do anything to her. But Akemi herself was exhausted too… She wouldn't fall asleep in that man's presence where he could get to her any time, but… "Train…" she whimpered, sobbing a little. She didn't know where he was… if he was okay… she was worried. "Train… please be okay…" she pulled her knees against her chest and let out her tears that she'd been holding in while Coven was trying to touch her. She wanted to go back… to Train… to Eve and Sven… no, even more than that, she just wanted to be left alone by Coven. Why had he come after her? Why her? There were many prettier girls and many more people in the world… so why?
Hour by hour, minute by minute, Train was trying not to panic. But Akemi was still so scared of Coven… how was she going to survive being that close to him? Sure she would fight, but… or at least he hoped she would be able… all sorts of horrible scenarios ran through his head and he swore, slamming his hand into the nearest thing. This time it happened to be Sven. "What the hell?!"
"Quit sitting around, we need to go find Akemi!"
"Sit down!" Sven and Train began arguing again, this time Eve intervening and stopping them both. "… Eve?"
"Don't fight." She stated. "Train's still hurt… Sven yelling isn't helping…" she shook her head. "… Akemi's out there… if Sven won't go, I'll-"
"You can't go alone!" both males stated simultaneously.
"… Then Train stay and Sven and I will-"
"No!" Train stated, his eyes sharpening to nearly glare daggers. "I made her a promise! I swore I wouldn't let him get her!" he practically screamed at the blonde girl. "… I promised…" Train's fists were trembling… "… Akemi…"
When Sven and Eve woke up from a nap, Train had vanished, his bandages left on his pillow. They searched all over, but no one had seen the brunette sweeper leave… The two could only assume he'd gone searching aimlessly for Akemi. They had no hope of finding him by guessing, since there were so many ways out of town. Sven removed his eye patch, hoping he'd be able to find Train that way. "Please let us make it in time…" Sven mumbled as he drove with Eve in tow to find Train and Akemi. What he had seen was terrifying… He only hoped that he could help stop it.
