Clara stared in shock at the new man lying on the deck in front of her. He looked a bit older, and rather distinguished, and his clothes hung oddly on a different body, but there was something about his face that hinted of easy smiles and laughter.

She wondered if she should be doing anything for him, trying to recall details of his past regenerations. Sometimes he seemed to require a great deal of rest, and others he was off and running in no time. Clara also hoped he would be in his right mind when he came to. She shuddered slightly - his sixth incarnation had been…unique…in so many ways. She rather hoped it would remain that way.

For the moment, she was so shaken and bone-tired that she was content to simply sit and watch him. He was breathing easily and seemed to be resting comfortably. She tentatively reached out to touch his face, and his hand shot up and grabbed her wrist in a vise-like grip. Clara gasped, and the Doctor's eyes opened suddenly. They focused on her and his grasp relaxed immediately. A slow smile spread over his face, fulfilling the promise she'd noted there earlier.

"My Clara," he murmured.

"Am I, still?" she faltered.

He propped himself up on one elbow. The hand that had grabbed Clara's wrist slid down to clasp her hand gently. "Oh, Clara…new body - same hearts."

He bounced to his feet abruptly, dragging her up with him. They wobbled uncertainly for a moment, steadying each other. Clara stared into eyes that were filled with wisdom, and mischief, and heartache, and insatiable curiosity. She knew those eyes, even if they happened to look a bit different now.

The Doctor reached out and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. "You've been with me from the very beginning. Did you think I could ever - ever - forget all that? Of course you're still my Clara. That is…unless…if you…?"

Clara couldn't bear the look of anguished uncertainty that crossed his face, and she offered the first response that came to mind, sliding her arms around his waist and laying her head against his chest. After a moment, his arms settled around her, holding her close. She felt the Doctor's familiar double heartbeat against her cheek and smiled.

"You're right," she sighed contentedly.

"I usually am. About what, in particular?"

"You do have the same hearts."
