Ending in Carnage

Unarmed and injured, with blood oozing from a slash in his arm, Steve McGarrett ran for his life. The huge truck roaring behind him was a monster, driven by an even more monstrous killer, who laughed as he pursued the commander. The heavy truck charged at Steve, coming so close he could feel the heat of its engine, and then dropped back, as the killer taunted the running man.

"Run, rabbit, run!" the killer shouted gleefully. "Don't get run over!"

The dirt road ran along the edge of a cliff with a steep drop to jagged rocks on one side and a plowed field that might as well be quicksand on the other. The loose dirt would bog down Steve's steps and let the truck run right over him.

Running on the hard-packed dirt road was Steve's only chance. He hoped the killer would wait too long with his taunting and let Steve get to a place where he could dodge the agile vehicle.

It was a slim hope that he could reach the side road, a hope dashed when Steve saw headlights rushing toward him on an intercept path, a hope resurrected when he recognized the silver Camaro speeding toward the intersection — the intersection on the edge of the cliff!

Steve lengthened his stride and leaped past the side road, into the field. The truck veered to follow, and the Camaro hit it without slowing. The impact shoved the truck aside, sending it swerving toward the drop off with a jolt that threw the murderous driver screaming into space.

Steve scrambled to his feet and ran to the driver of the Camaro. Dazed by the air bag deployment, Danny Williams fumbled for his seat belt as the truck tilted toward the cliff, pulling the Camaro with it.

Steve wrenched the car door open and yanked his partner out. They tumbled to the ground, as the two entangled vehicles tumbled off the cliff. With a groan of metal that sounded almost human, the faithful silver Camaro fell to its doom, triumphant over its enemy.

When the echoes of the horrid crash died away, Steve looked at his friend to make sure he was OK. Still a little dazed, Danny touched Steve's face to make sure he was really alive.

They shared a grin of breathless relief, then staggered to their feet. Leaning on each other for support, they stood shoulder to shoulder as they looked down on the metallic carnage below. The silver Camaro gleamed on top of the pile with the killer truck crushed beneath it. A mangled body was draped over rocks to the right.

The nightmare was over.

There were so many things Steve could say — thanks for saving his life, apologies for the sacrifice of Danny's beloved car — but that wasn't how the partners rolled. Instead, Steve cleared his throat of emotion and said, "See what happens when I let you drive?"

A/N: I get all my Five-0 gossip from Author's Notes. Fifilia's latest chapter of Neverisms said Danny will have a new car this season. It makes sense that sponsor Chevrolet would want to show off a new model, but the silver Camaro is practically another character, so I hope the hero car gets a heroic finale, so I wrote this when I meant to do another chapter of Hot Pursuit. At least I seem to be making progress on that monster. As for the title of this story, I realized I had Five-0 stories with titles beginning with 19 of the 26 letters of the alphabet. Now it's 20.
