Just a little one-shot I wrote about Percy and Annabeth's friendship between The Titan's Curse and The Battle of the Labyrinth.

She remembers every moment she's ever had with him since his arrival at camp; every tease, every sparring session, every long conversation in the pavilion or at the beach. She listens to the sound of his laughter in her head and a warm fuzzy feeling blooms inside her that she can't describe no matter how hard she tries. She replays his actions and reactions over and over in her head, looking for clues as to how he really feels about her. The annoying thing is that she has no idea why she even cares. She just feels like there's a huge elephant in the room and they're both dancing delicately around it. Of course, it would help if she actually knew what the elephant was.

He knows everything about her. He knows that she can't stand even the slightest amount of disorder in her cabin. He knows she loves dark chocolate and the smell of new books. He can perfectly remember her laugh, her smile and the way her grey eyes sparkle. He can recall every time she's saved his life, every hug she's given him and every look she's flashed his way. He doesn't know why the slightest things she says to him can start his heart racing, but he knows that he likes the feelings that come from the game that they're playing.

Everyone always says that boys and girls can never be just friends. Eventually, hormones and feelings will start to creep in, no matter how much the duo tries to deny it. Attraction will bloom, and with that could possibly come the destruction of a friendship. To deny the feelings is stupid, but to act on them is dangerous. But Percy and Annabeth have nothing to worry about, because they're going to stay just friends.

But here's the thing: They're trapped in this confusing game together, with very few ways out. They both know there's attraction between each other, but they're trying to stem the flow of feelings that unexpectedly leak out at the worst possible moments. This delicate game has the scales balanced between friendship and something more.

It's only a matter of time before something else is added and they tip.
