Date, Infirmary, and Bone Candy
Hermione was at a loss. She was combing through the library and had been here all day every day for the past week. She was thankful that she hadn't run into Malfoy since the incident that she so called it. Blood, blood, he had actually given, or forced her to drink blood. She immediately ran to Madam Pomfrey and was shocked to find that nothing was wrong with her. Madam Pomfrey went through everything, with Hermione's insistence that something was wrong, but Madam Pomfrey was a hundred percent positive that nothing was wrong with her. Even her sickness was gone.
Hermione was then shooed away and told to enjoy the rest of her day. Which lead Hermione to madly searching through the library determined to find answers. She looked through all sorts of books from potions, to the dark arts, and even took a gander at Hogwarts: A history. She thought it was time to find what was up with Malfoy. Something happened to him and she was determined to find out.
In Hogwarts: A history she found little passages about the Black Lake. It wasn't even here when the castle was originally built but had formed afterwards. The water seemed to have had a life of its own and formed here because of the magic activity. The creatures had followed their home and never left. It was true the lake did have a life all its own. It was both beautiful and dangerous. But nothing of interest other than that. She managed to get a list of creatures that were said to reside in the lake but once again, nothing really caught her eye, which left her in a sulky mood. The list went from the colony of merpeople, gridlyweeds, and the giant squad. But she decided to take a book that listed other beings of water people that perhaps some weren't recorded in the Black Lake.
She was just about to check out the restricted section when Ron and Harry showed up in their quidditch uniforms.
The boys had followed her to the infirmary and they also were extremely worried. They haven't seen her so freaked out .They thought her fever had gotten so bad that hallucinations had occurred. But it still worried Hermione all the same. That was twice now that Malfoy was right there and the others didn't see him. Saying that she was alone. However, Malfoy still conversed with his Slytherin peers and all the teachers and even with Harry and Ron even after the incident at the Black Lake. They even said that Malfoy acted normal...for a Slytherin.
"Um…hello Hermione."
The boys went toward her with their quidditch uniforms on.
Hermione nodded and smiled to them in greetings. "Hello Ron, Harry."
Harry scratched the back of his head and said quite sternly, "Hermione, what is going on?"
With her questioning look, Ron continued.
"You've been here all week every day."
"Just working on some research."
Harry sighed. "We are just worried Hermione. Ever since," he paused and then continued, "You have been cooped up in here more so than usual since your sickness."
"Please don't worry you guys. It was the fever, it just broke is all." She didn't want to talk about it at all. No she refused.
"Is there something that you boys needed," as she turned to check out her books delicately changing the subject.
Harry nudged Ron over and Ron glared at his friend who just shooed him over.
"Well Hermione this weekend is Hogsmeade weekend."
"It is," she agreed.
"Yea well I was hoping you...you and I could go together." Ron could feel his ears were burning from embarrassment.
"We always go together."
"Right," he agreed. "No! I mean yea...I mean yes we always go together. But what I was trying to say was would you want to go with me, just you and I together," he finally stopped. There he said. It took him all week to crack up the nerve to ask her.
Hermione didn't know what to say until it finally snuck in and she blushed. "Yes," she managed out.
"See Harry I told you she wouldn't go..."
"Ronald I said yes."
Ron stopped his tirade and when he thought his ears couldn't burn more they did. "So yes yea...you did...okay great. Well then, I'll see you this weekend. At four, is that okay"?
"Yes of course," she held her books tighter.
Harry held in a laugh and grabbed the back collar of his friends uniform and dragged him out shouting "Okay, see ya later Hermione!" He waved back, to which she returned though rather slowly.
Hermione waved and then froze. It finally sunk in she has a date with Ron. She scurried out of the library screaming for Ginny.
Blaise sat silently next to his blonde-haired friend. They both were out in the courtyard overlooking the lake and Blaise smirked as he watched his friend eat something out of a plastic bag. To anyone else it may have seemed like white candy but there was no mistaking the hard crunch when he chewed. Draco's teeth were slightly sharper to points to grind the hard material to nothing. He knew what his friend was eating. He was just curious on who it was.
Blaise started tapping his fingers on the cold stone they were sitting on and Draco looked to him in question. Obviously Blaise wanted his attention. When Blaise knew that he had Draco's full attention he spoke with such giddiness.
"So I heard a conversation quite interesting in the library that I'm positive will absolutely piss you off."
Draco paused in eating for a second. "And this pleases you." As he tried to figure out what his friend was getting at and he took another piece of white candy into his mouth. He brought out the bag to Blaise to which he picked out two pieces for himself and popped one into his mouth and savoring the crunch in his mouth.
"Oh yes," he smiled like a Cheshire cat. "Because it will only bring pain to the person I'm about to tattle on," as he plucked the other piece in his mouth and chewed.
Draco smiled himself the same way as Blaise and leaned in. "Do tell," his eyes flashing black.
He asked her, he actually asked her. Hermione was looking desperately through her closet and Ginny was on her bed watching the whole display. Luna, also in the room, had a dreamy smile on her face.
Ginny just laughed. "Hermione it's only my brother. In fact it just feels gross just thinking about it."
"Yes well that's how I feel with you and Harry."
"Harry is not related to you."
"True but Harry is like a brother to me."
Ginny rolled her eyes and decided to help Hermione out on what to wear. "How about this Hermione, you can borrow it."
Hermione looked and it was so simple it was beautiful.
It was a white dress with a scoop neck. In the other hand was a navy cotton jacket that buttoned at the neck and had a ribbon to tie around the neck as well. 'Classic,' she thought.
"It so pretty Ginny. It's white though, surely it will get dirty."
"Not with a cleansing spell."
Hermione hugged her friend and gave her an appreciative thank you.
"Now it's my turn," Ginny said
Hermione fell asleep that night happy for the first time in the last month and a half. 'Tomorrow will be perfect,' she thought smiling as she fell asleep.
This was the worst day of her life. She trudged through the thicket of the Forbidden Forest heading for Hogwarts in a daze. Her eyes were unfocused and her mind lost in her nightmare. Her once white dress, despite having a cleansing charm on it, had become dirty and tarnished. The dress was torn and the navy jacket hung loosely off her shoulders. She didn't know when she lost her shoes, but they were long gone by now. She had scrapes where blood was running down her arms and bruises were forming. She winced each time she took a step. Blood trickled down her legs and her knuckles and fingers hurt. She knew some of them were broken from fighting him. She was bleeding from her neck from when he bit her and Merlin it felt like her neck was going to be torn off. She had bite marks everywhere. You could see where both the teeth from the top of the jaw and the bottom had embedded into her skin. This was an actual bite. All teeth were involved in this.
Why!? They were best friends. They were supposed to be best friends and she even hoped to be something more. But why did this happen?
She held in a sob as she continued to walk closer to the castle. She would not cry, she would not cry, she was not weak but her dark thoughts over what just happened was slowly consuming her entire being. She stopped as she saw a figure in front of her but her vision was fading fast.
"Granger," the figure called out and Hermione was losing it. She collapsed on the forest floor. She knew only one person that called her Granger and with that last thought she passed out.
Malfoy walked up to her and gazed down at her checking her form over. He slowly picked her up into his arms and sniffed her form. He was pleased, she smelt just like him. He licked her forehead and deduced that if he didn't take her back soon sickness would take over her again. He looked into the woods hearing a noise and wasn't surprised to see Blaise coming into view.
"You were too rough with her," he stated bluntly though he didn't have any remorse on what happened to the girl.
Draco gazed down at her. His blonde hair finally overpowering the red in his hair and the freckles fading form his face and arms. His joints cracked as he grew back to his normal height and smirked at the peaceful look on her face as she slept.
"Perhaps, but the damage is done." He was pleased when she brought herself closer to his body. He smirked, 'My little Gryffindor depending on me already.'
"Enjoyed the show did you," he quirked a brow at his friend.
Blaise smiled. "Her screams were like one of my favorite Italian classical pieces."
Draco turned toward the lake and smiled as he cocked his head toward it. "Care to go for a dip Blaise," his eyes growing black and scales slowing covering his body.
Blaise nodded excitedly his black eyes shining in the moonlight, "Gladly."
Hermione awoke groggily. She shook her head only to find a headache coming on. She attempted to sit up but was gently forced down back onto the bed is what she assumed for she was covered in warm blankets and was laying on something soft. 'Come on Hermione, wake up wake up,' as she encouraged herself to open her eyes that felt like they were tied down. She finally managed to cracked up her open her eyes and was blinded by the light of the room.
Malfoy was aware of everything that was happening above. He was standing waist deep in the lake and just listening. His pointed ears turned and he saw Blaise dragging something or someone from further inspection across the grass and started to head towards him in the lake.
He then handed the body to Draco and smirked knowingly, "Hungry?"
Blaise smirked and tore off a finger from the body. "Famished," as they both disappeared underneath the water.
