SilverAmarant: Oh my God. I actually uploaded something un-late for once in 84 years.
Gufuu: That's not going to last though, is it?
Vaati: Was that a Titanic reference?
SilverAmarant: These characters do not belong to me. Only the story is mine.

It was finally time for Vaati to go back to school again. Link had texted him earlier to say that he was coming over to walk to school with him. It took the descendant a while to reply. He was too worried and concerned about Gufuu. His words lingered in mind.
'Just, kill Link and you'll be rid of me. That's something to look forward to, right?'
Those words just tore him. Even if Vaati wanted to kill Link, he didn't seem to like the thought of Gufuu leaving him. He didn't really understand. Gufuu had been with him for so long that him leaving… Vaati couldn't bear it. By the time Vaati was able to focus on replying Link was already at his house. The blondie knocked on his door and Vaati answered.
"Hi, Vaati! You ready for sc- Whoa!" Link stepped back a bit in shock at the state of Vaati; the lavender-haired individual was a mess. His hair was messy, bags were under his eyes and the boy just looked absolutely drained. "Are you okay? You look exhausted." Link asked, deeply worried.
Vaati noticed the state he was in and smiled embarrassingly.
"Don't worry about it. I've just had a bad night. Couldn't sleep well." Vaati admitted, yawning. Link's eyes darkened but said nothing further.
"Well, I'll wait for you and when you're ready we'll set off." He replied. Vaati smiled and nodded.
"Make yourself at home while you're waiting." The descendant offered as he walked into his room. Link sat down in the kitchen, scrolling on his phone at recent posts on HyrulePages, a famous social site. The blondie was constantly thinking about what Dark (Who was out of hospital but bed-bound) said.
Link had always waved the odd things off but after listening to Dark, he found everything unsettling. He had a few questions to ask his 'friend'.
Like, 'How did his parents die?'
'What was that ominous feeling he gets when he's around him?'
Link would have to be careful about how he goes about his questions, lest he offend Vaati in some way that can get him in trouble.
After a few minutes, Vaati walked in, looking decent for school. Link faked a smile and deposited his phone in his pocket.
"Are you ready?" He asked.
"Yep. After you." Vaati answered.
It was silent between them. Usually it was Link who started the conversation but he hadn't said a word since they left. Vaati was starting to feel awkward so he just said the first thing that came to his mind.
"So… How are you?" He asked, expecting a essay-long answer but he only got one word.
"Good."
"Ah. That's good."
It was silent again.
"Hey, Vaati?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you believe in Hyrule's history about the four heroes who defeated a one eyed beast?" Link questioned.
"Um… Yeah… Why?" Vaati wondered, nervously. 'Why is he bringing this up?'
"I am starting to believe it myself. I… never really believed such myths but… I can't help but think that they may be true."
"Why do you ask? What's brought this up?" The lavender-haired boy asked. Link looked at him.
"No reason." Link sighed. "I'm sorry if this comes out blunt but what happened to your parents? It's been nagging me for a while. How did they die?"
Vaati hesitated. His breath hitched.
'Why is he asking?! He… Can't think like everyone else, can he?'
"I don't know. I wasn't there when it happened." Vaati deceited, trying not to sound like a liar. "The doctor never told me."
Link looked at him suspiciously.
"If you say so." He frowned. "Strange that the doctor didn't tell a family member. Speaking of which, don't you have any other relatives to live with? Or did they hate you, too?"
Vaati stopped and glared at him.
"Why are you being so harsh?! You're making it sound like I killed them! I-I don't find it funny…" His fists started trembling. Link sighed.
"... I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. It's just… recently bad things have been happening when you've been around. My brother's been in hospital twice!"
"That's not my fault. If he didn't attack me, I wouldn't have fought back."
"I know but… I feel like something's at work here. Vaati, we're not alone are we?"
Everything just stilled. Vaati couldn't breathe.
'He knows? How?!' Vaati coughed and shook his head.
"I don't understand. No one's been following us." The lavender-haired boy knew exactly who Link was talking about but he pretended that he was talking about an eavesdropper from school.
"Please. Tell me the truth. Dark and you have bad history but I know when he's telling the truth. There's someone else with you, isn't there? Tell me and maybe I can help." Link explained, looking deeply into Vaati's eyes, as if he was reading his soul.
"The only thing that you can do is die in my hands. I don't want that…" Vaati mumbled, not loud enough for the other male to hear. "I am telling the truth."
"VAATI!" Link punched him square in the face. The descendant fell down clutching his cheek. "Please! Be honest with me! I won't judge you! I promise." Link begged, clutching the other's shirt. Vaati averted his gaze. Hesitantly, he nodded.
"Can we… Go somewhere private then?"
The two settled in a local park and the both of them sat on the swings.
"So… Where should I start?"
"The other person." Link suggested, lacing his fingers around the swing handles.
"Ah… Well, um… He's... " Vaati looked around and noted that Gufuu still wasn't around. He had been gone for a while. "He's a spirit from many generations ago. He's my ancestor who actually has the same name as me." He paused for a moment to study Link's reaction but the blonde male didn't seem fazed in the slightest. "Shortly after me and you became friends, he appeared; out of nowhere in fact. All this time, he's been trying to make me hurt you."
Link averted his gaze and gulped.
"So Dark was right after all." He deduced.
"But…! I-I always said no! I couldn't ever hurt you, Link! You're my best friend, my only friend on top of that. He just can't see that you're the only person I have." Vaati murmured, focusing on the ground. Link leaned in close.
"Is he with us now?" He asked in a whisper. Vaati shook his head sideways.
"He's been gone since last night. We had an always-recurring argument that involves him wanting you dead and me trying to defend you."
Link paled. He clutched the handles tighter and pressed his lips tightly together.
"Sorry. I shouldn't mention death so lightly. Especially considering it concerns you." Vaati sighed and fiddled with his tie. "I don't know where he's gone but I know he'll be back. He won't leave me alone. He won't ever leave me. He'll probably be with me until the day I'm dead."
"That's how it is? He's torturing and tormenting you? He won't leave until you do what he wants you to do? I'd kill him if he wasn't already dead! But… I don't understand why this concerns you. With everyone else, I mean." Link mumbled. "It's not your fault you were born from his lineage. You're nothing like that evil Vaati. Probably his past was so horrific that everyone felt intimidated no matter if it's him or not." He put a hand on Vaati's shoulder. "Don't worry! If it helps, I can think on ways to get rid of him for you!" He started grinning like an idiot to reassure his friend. Vaati smiled meekly.
"Thanks but… Well, I don't think I actually want him to leave." Link gave him a shocked reaction. "What he says is infuriating but… He's been around for so long that I… Can't think about not having him around anymore. He does care about me, in his own twisted way but he's actually saved my life countless times. If not for him, I wouldn't be here right now."
"Vaati, don't you think he's just doing that as a subterfuge?"
"Are you suggesting he's hiding something from me? There's nothing left for him to hide."
"What I mean is that he's just making himself seem nice so you'll do what he asks one day." Link suggested.
"Link, I can handle Gufuu. Really. Don't worry about him."
"If you say so."
"Can we… Be on our way to school? We're going to be late." Vaati murmured. "And… Whenever Gufuu comes back, I don't want it to seem like I said anything about this. If he finds out, I'll be in serious trouble."
Link nodded and together, they set off, both unaware of the "eavesdropper" glaring down at the both of them.

SilverAmarant: Who was that?
Gufuu: I'm pretty sure everyone who reads will know who it is.
Vaati: The end is close at hand, isn't it?
SilverAmarant: Yep. Not even I know how will end.
Gufuu: Shocker.
