Serena
„I'm ready" Serena whispered to her reflection in the mirror. She wanted to cry out of excitement and happiness, surprised how intense her feelings were.
She was beautiful, radiant, how every bride should look on her wedding day.
Her dress was in a pretty peppermint color, matching her green eyes and pointing out the color of her hair, which was elegantly put up in a low, braided bun. Strands of hair framed her face while her skin seemed to glow.
The dress had almost transparent sleeves with silvery pearls and pale green leaf embroideries which covered the whole fabric and became darker and more concentrated from the top down. A entwined, thin silver belt emphasised her slender waist as the dress became more loose around her legs. Serena was completely in love with it, since it matched with her Midgardian sense of fashion but was fitting enough for a Princess. Fitting enough for Loki's bride.
„Your Grace." Serena recognized the mocking tone in her brother's voice. Taylor entered her chamber, smiling his signature wide smile. She fell into his arms, immediately feeling at home. „You look great sister. Really amazing" He said.
The Bifrost had been repaired, allowing Serena to invite humans like her brother, Darcy and Jane. She had asked for Tony and Steve, but apparently Tony had more important business to deal with and Steve was busy with accommodating to the present. Serena missed them, but was happy enough with her brother. Taylor would led her to the altar, while Darcy and Jane were the bridesmaids. Luckily, the wedding customs weren't so different to their owns in Vanaheimr. Yara was her maid of honor as she was Serena's closest friend in Vanaheimr, much to Freya's displease and even more to Frey's please.
It didn't matter. This day it was only about Serena and Loki.
Loki
Everyone was waiting for the bride to arrive. About hundred guests gathered in the garden, mostly nobles of Vanaheimr. Queen Frigga, Thor and Lady Sif were the guests from Asgard, even though Loki was not eager to see them, he didn't care. There was only one person important today.
Frey was the one wedding them while Freya sat on an artfully wooden throne next to him with a precious silver crown with sapphires. The garden was in its full bloom, flowers in every color filled the air with their scent.
Everything around faded, the music, the people, the flowers.
The woman he fell in love with filled in his field of vision, his heart, every ounce of him. Loki was almost frightened of how overwhelming this kind of feelings could be. Serena smiled and Loki could see everything he loved about her in this moment. Her strength and passion, her good, compassionate heart. Loki had failed in so many things, but this time, he would be her king. Her true companion.
Freya
Every mother feared the moment she had to give her daughter away. But Freya wasn't like any mother, since her daughter had been away most of her live. Giving her to Loki meant keeping her close to this realm. It meant her daughter would stay home and be part of her family.
The young human who Serena called brother gave Serena away to Loki and Freya was close enough to hear the words he whispered with a mischievous smirk on his lips.
-„I know you're a god and everything, but I'm going to make the traditionally death threat anyway. Hurt my little sis, and I'll kill you." Loki returned the grin and wanted to turn away, but Taylor added: „Tony and Steve said I should deliver the same message from them. Sorry."
Finally, he returned to his place, while Freya almost laughed at the slightly confused faces of Serena and Loki. At least, there were more than enough people in line to protect her child.
Frey was the one wedding them, wearing the ceremonial armour their father wore when he was King. The polished silver sparkled in the sun as he recited the ancient words meant to bind a man and a woman.
Freya didn't listen, she just enjoyed the happiness and love the couple radiated. Those things had been so rare lately, but Freya was the goddess representing them after all. The handmaiden Yara handed the rings, a simple silver one for Loki and a small matching one with a big green emerald for Serena.
-„I, Princess Serena Jones Freyasdotter of Vanaheimr take you, Prince Loki as my husband and before the King of Vanaheimr and this witnesses I promise to be a faithful and a true wife. I am his and he is mine, from this day till the end of my days."
Loki repeated the vow, and Frey proclaimed them married.
Frey
Loki had decided to skip the last name, while Serena had added her adoptive parents' name. But beside, it had been the perfect wedding.
-„Prince Loki." Loki knelt down.
-„You are from now on a Prince of Vanaheimr, whatever your last name may be." Frey took the sword and handed it over to Loki. Frey was aware he was giving this symbol of royalty to a frost giant, a traitor, a monster. Still his wife was going to tame him enough to be of use for him and his realm. Odin had never acknowledged how powerful Loki was, but Frey wasn't the one to make the same mistake. For a slim, cunning fighter like himself it was obvious Thor's physical power was not as precious as Loki's skills. It didn't stop him anyway from whispering:
-„What the boy said earlier goes for me too."
-„I should make a list then."
-„You should. It would get quite long."
Frey cleared his throat and said loudly: „Raise yourself, son of Vanaheimr."
The crowd cheered and clapped politely.
Now it was Serena coming forward and kneeling down.
„Princess Serena. I name you the goddess of loyalty, courage and empathy. May you be heir to the throne of Vanaheimr and Queen one day. Only a true child of Vanaheimr is worth of this crown, and the gifts that come with it."
The crown was actually like Freya's, only smaller. It was embellished with diamonds, and as soon as it touched Serena's head, the crowd cheered again, this time louder. They were already loving their Princess, and Frey noticed the crown fit perfectly. Like Nertha's sword or Heijastin, the crown jewels were magical, giving the one who bore them power and wisdom. In Freya or Frey's case, it didn't change much because they were born as gods, but for a half Midgardian, Frey's naming and crowning would actually change her. Within a few days, Princess Serena would be a true goddess.
Serena
„It suits you." Loki whispered, tugging at her tiara. „Thank you." There were dancing in the main hall. Serena had already danced with Frey, Thor and her brother, while Loki had only agreed to dance with Freya and Frigga. The Queen of Asgard was happy for her son, so he couldn't deny her one dance. Not far from them, Yara was dancing around playfully with King Frey, next to the couples Thor and Jane as well as Taylor and Darcy.
Serena lay in Loki arms, feeling safe and loved. „Today has been wonderful." „Tonight will be too." He smirked, and Serena chuckled.
-„Remember when we met? You were a frightened girl with fire in her eyes. Now you're a goddess, a princess, almost immortal – and you still have the same fire. And a frostgiant by your side."
-„You changed me too, you know. I couldn't have been that courageous without you."
Loki kissed her on her forehead. „I would be nothing without you."
Serena raised her head to kiss him on his lips, Loki, the god of mischief and lies, the Prince of Asgard, Vanaheimr and Jotunheim, son of Odin and Laufey. And more importantly, her husband and the man she loved.
The End. :D
First of all, if you want to know how the dress looks like (it was not easy to describe) just google dresses from Elie Saab, they're all so gorgeous and their style was the inspiration.
After 101 chapters, the story of Loki and Serena is finally finished :D I didn't think it would get that long, but everyone who reviewed or followed it kept me going. Every review I've read made me smile like an idiot in front of my computer so I can't thank you enough for taking time to read and to comment this. Freya's daughter was not only my first fanfic but also the first story I've written in English and you guys kept reading it despite the many mistakes I make.
I am so grateful to those who reviewed, especially to the ones who wrote something for many chapters and supported me with their own ideas: SimplyMae, Liz of Asgard, VampireChick101, Sonya-Valentine and Asteria - you're awesome! :D Without you, there wouldn't be 51 chapters by now ;)
Now I'll continue "Trouble Will Find Me" with Captain America. Tell me if you're interested in another story about Loki and Serena or if you have enough of those two ;)
Liebe Grüße & lots of love
- Johanna (which is my real name btw ;)
