Authors note: guess who really likes cliffhangers. ME! I write them a lot I've realized. Sorry to put you through so many feels.

The game was over. Peach creek had won by a landslide and everyone was cheering. Kevin was lifted into the air and the crowd roared. Everyone was excited, except for a certain quarterback and dork.

Edd had cleaned himself up before facing Nazz. He wanted desperately to go home but how could he explain to Nazz what had happened? He wasn't even sure he could explain it to himself.

One part of Double d knew that Kevin would never do something like cheat. Another part told him that maybe all of this was just a prank. That all of this was just a horrible joke and Kevin was still the bully who had tormented him all his life.

Double d didn't want to worry Nazz anyway.

He sat on the bleachers while Nazz and everyone around him stood clapping and hollering. It hurt his head. Edd watched the football team celebrate by pouring the Gatorade tub over the coach.

"What's wrong Edd?" Of course Nazz knew something was wrong. She had a sort of motherly intuition.

"I'm just not feeling very well. I think I'm going to head home, it's been a long day." Edd sighed and stood up brushing dust from his skinny jeans. "Thank you very much Nazz for spending the evening with me."

"You sure you don't want to wait for Kev? There's an after party too…" She trialed off but Edd was already making his way through the crowd, feeling suffocated by people.

When he finally got out of the mass of shouting people he adjusted his messed up hat and started for home.

Kevin was constantly surrounded by people; all congratulating him on the "good game." Kevin tried to smile and look like the happiest guy on the planet but he was worn out and exhausted. He had unfinished business that he was not looking forward to.

He told the team he would be back for the party later. They didn't ask very many questions and he was thankful for that. He didn't know where Edd would be but he was going to find him no matter what.

Kevin was racking his brain for words to say to Edd when he found him. The jock couldn't lie. He was angry that Edd would even think that he would cheat. He was angry at the cheerleader as well. The part that made him the angriest was that he didn't even know her name. She was just another cheerleader.

He trudged on the sidewalk with his football helmet in hands and his cleats thudding on the ground. He was finally away from the noise and not far from the cul-de-sac. Kevin didn't bother yelling for Edd. For all he knew double d could be at home bawling his eyes out right now, and that thought killed Kevin.

Edd came to the top of the street leading into the cul-de-sac. Sighing he took a slow step towards his house.

"So that's it."

The boy in the oversized jersey froze before his foot could touch the ground. He wouldn't turn around to face who he knew was standing behind him. He couldn't.

"You're just going to run off and lock the door without talking to me first? You really think I was just going to let you leave like that?" Kevin's voice was monotone and tired.

"Yes, now go off and join your little cheerleader, I'm sure she is lonely without you."

"Oh god Edd, you really are…" Kevin stopped himself from saying something hurtful. Edd spun around on his heel.

"What? What exactly am I Kevin? Please do finish."

"You are being irrational." He tried to word it in a way that Edd would understand.

Kevin was right. Here he was telling him that what happened wasn't what it looked like and Edd was being irrational.

"Am I Kevin? I'm pretty sure I know what I saw." Edd refused to cry again, bidding the tears to go away and never come back. He hated crying, especially in front of someone he cares about.

"I know what it looked like Edd but I swear… I swear Double D it wasn't like that."

Kevin was about to scream. 'Come on Edd you know I would never do something like that.' He rubbed some dirt from his forehead and some of the "war paint" from the game off his cheeks. It only smudged making his face look dirty.

"Just leave me alone and go to that stupid after party. You won, congrats."

"I don't want to be anywhere but here fixing this. Fixing us, Edd."

The smaller boy shook his head and turned to leave but Kevin quickly stopped him with one hand on his shoulder. The jock used a bit more pressure than intended and Edd exhaled deeply holding back a groan.

"After everything… after everything this is it?" Kevin struggled to keep his voice calm. "W-why don't you trust me?"

"I do. I-I did… I trusted you more than anything."

"Edd I swear I…she kissed me…I didn't want to…" Kevin was panicking trying to find the words that would make Edd stay.

"I wish I hadn't remembered you." Edd immediately regretted opening his mouth, but he was angry and like Kevin said irrational.

"Is that how you really feel?" Kevin let go of Edd's arm letting it fall limply to the boy's side. The jock ran his now free hand through his helmet hair. He still held his helmet in his left hand finding comfort in it.

Kevin's voice was broken and Double d wanted to dig a deep hole and bury himself in it. Edd felt horrible and knew he didn't mean it.

"No… no I didn't mean that at all. I'm sorry Kevin that was uncalled for. I'm s-sorry." So much for not crying. The tears ran down his cheeks and he rapidly tried to wipe them away. Kevin dropped his helmet and wrapped his arms around Edd tightly, never wanting to let go. Edd didn't stop him.

"Promise me… okay pinky promise." Edd nestled his face into the jocks chest. He smelled like dirt and sweat but Edd loved it. Edd loved him. Kevin laughed and kissed the top of Edd's head holding out his pinky. Edd took it with his own.

The jock lifted both pinkies intertwined to his lips and gently kissed it. "I promise."

"We are a hot mess." Edd sighed and pressed his lips to the indent of Kevin's neck.
