Chapter 44
The Pack circled Bella's body on the North lawn of the Whitehouse. Irkalla's body had already blown away. Bella's however remained in a very vulnerable position.
Leeches snarled at the Pack from all sides. Bella destroyed three, Jake had destroyed three and the rest of the Pack had disabled six while defending only.
"We need to attack. We have the numbers!"
Jake saw the wisdom in Paul's thoughts. Still he was torn…
"Jake, my Grandfather and I will stay back. I swear to you no leech will touch her."
Jake took confidence in Quil's words. It was time to end this.
The Pack in full view of the entire world engaged the remaining vampires. After two minutes the battle was over.
Jake looked around at the body parts littering the North Lawn of the Whitehouse. Then he took in his surroundings.
At least six helicopters hovered overhead pointing cameras at the Pack. Reporters were slowly inching in the front Lawn. Secret Service was running towards them and then past them to retake the Whitehouse.
"When you said nobody would miss this, you weren't kidding Jake." Leah thought.
"Everybody stay phased. When Bella wakes she will get us out of here." Jake instructed.
"Jake are you sure she is going to wake up?" Seth asked.
"She will." Old Quil said with certainty in his thoughts.
"You know this?"
"She has to Jake. She has to. If she doesn't I am going in after her."
Bella POV
I lay on top of Chris, trying to stop shaking from my near encounter with hell and coming to grips with the fact that he was here. Satan chuckled behind us.
"Father does have his favorites. It's a pity. Hell would be a fitting place for a witch."
I would have looked at Satan but I had no desire to do so. I had looked the devil in the eye enough. Chris had no problem though with the beast. He rolled me off and stood quickly.
"Actually in La Push she is called an angel. Probably time for you to be leaving, wouldn't you say?"
I turned and saw Chris was within feet of Satan.
"Don't get cocky cowboy." The devil said grinning.
"You can't touch me or mine. Time to get back in the pit. Take a look around. The sun is shinin."
I caught the sneer on the creatures face. The sun was indeed shining in the Spirit World.
Then as if he never existed, the devil was gone and Chris and I were left in the desert alone.
"Chris? Is it really you?"
"Course it is girl. Who else would get that close to Hell for you? I guarantee Quil would have just reached out his staff and told you to grab it."
"You moved on. You went to the highest level, you…Serena…"
"Told you exactly what she was supposed to tell you Bella. I've been with you the entire time. I was with you in the Dr.'s office when you found out you were pregnant. I was there in Missouri when you had to put those children to rest. I was by your side when you faced that evil bastard on the mountain in Utah. When you turned your back on the dark urges of your soul and embraced who you always have been. I've never left your side Bella."
"I couldn't see you." I told him.
"I know."
"Why?"
"Because how many times did you say it Bella? I was the source of your calm. I was the one who grounded you. You had to learn to do that for yourself. You never would have been able to stay calm and focused enough in the middle of a fight, to enter the Spirit World, much less drag an evil bitch like her there, if you were still relying on me to ground you. You had to go out on your own, no matter how much it hurt. And you did. I'm damn proud of you girl."
I was speechless. He was there? With me?
But a part of me knew.
"Hold me?" I asked quietly.
He was in my arms before the words were out of my mouth. Once again I learned that tears were possible in the Spirit World. Only these were tears of joy.
I'm not sure how long we stayed holding each other but it wasn't enough. He pulled back first.
"Listen you need to get back to the physical world. The battle is over. The good guys won, but I imagine there are a whole lot of cameras taking pictures of big wolves right now. Get your guys, get back to La Push and then come here. I will be waiting."
"You won't leave?"
"I promise you Bella. I will be here. You will be able to talk to me from now on whenever you want."
"Wait…what do you mean? You aren't ascending?"
"Take care of business. I will be here. We have much to talk about."
Chris was gone.
I suppose I should be as well.
With that thought I was looking at the sky and Quil and Old Quil's wolves were looking down at me.
"Bella?!"
"I'm back Jake."
"Thank God. We really need to get out of here."
I sat up and looked around. Next to me was a dust outline of Irkalla's body on the ground causing me to smile.
"Told you, you could do it Quil."
"I can't believe you pulled that. You have any idea how easily she could have broken your neck?" Old Quil groused.
"Yeah. We are definitely having a conversation about our communication skills Bells." Jake thought.
"Sorry baby. Didn't want to worry you more than necessary."
We were brought out of the ass chewing I had coming my way by a roar. Paul. Apparently some reporters were getting brave. They were no longer brave.
"We need to get out of here. Hold on."
I took a breath and summoned fog. Soon a thick fog bank rolled over the North Lawn. We were covered. I lit up a portal and watched my Pack walk through. Picking up the black box I followed them.
"Dani?"
"I will bring you back Seth. Let's get home and dressed. She is safe."
Within seconds we were on the street outside mine and Jake's house. I saw we weren't alone. The entire population of La Push that had returned was waiting for us along with our families.
They were applauding. Charlie had me in his arms. I saw the Pack phase. Sue and Rachel were bringing clothes.
The tribe rushed us.
Music was playing from somewhere. Cheers. Old Quil grabbed me from Charlie. He was crying. Theresa and Anya pushed through the crowd. They had Chris and Serena.
I grabbed my babies and was in turn grabbed by Jacob, then Paul, then Rebecca. Ricky, Brian and Eric were on top of our roof celebrating. Embry and Leah were on the ground…Wow. Theresa had really done a good job getting the two of them over their fear of imprinting.
This was so surreal. I just wanted to go inside with my babies but there were so many people everywhere I looked…
"Claire!"
Jacob turned at my shout and managed to pick Claire up before she touched the black box.
"You can't touch that honey." Jacob whispered to her. Claire continued to stare at the box.
The crowd quieted. Billy thankfully took control.
"Attention everyone. We obviously have some things to talk about. All of us. But right now we need to take care of business. We will have a bonfire tonight at the beach where all will be explained."
The crowd began to dissipate a bit but the celebration continued. Sam took Claire who was still staring at the box.
"Claire!"
Her trance seemed to break at my shout and she reached out for me. I handed the babies to Jake and grabbed onto her.
"Bella that box is alive. It's a hole but it's alive. I don't understand it." Claire whispered to me.
"Just stay away from it sweetie. I'm going to put it in a place no one will ever be able to find it."
"It belongs in Hell Bella." The poor thing looked so frightened. I knew the feeling.
"I know. But I'm going to have to find another place for it here. Let me worry about it okay?"
Claire nodded and kissed my cheek.
"Everyone head home and we will meet back at seven at the beach." Billy instructed us. Home seemed like a good idea. I turned towards Charlie and saw him on the phone. That wasn't a happy look on his face.
"What happened?" I asked as soon as he hung up. Then it hit me. I forgot in the excitement of the battle. I can't believe I forgot.
"Let's go inside Bella." He told me softly.
"She is dead, isn't she?"
Charlie didn't answer. I didn't need an answer. I knew.
"The rest…the vampires…our vampires took back over the station. The woman who killed her is dead. I'm so sorry baby."
Jacob wrapped his arms around me. I knew he was worried. Everyone was. But the sad fact of the matter was I accepted her death when I found out she was missing. Right or wrong, that's what happened.
No.
I accepted her death when she left the ranch. I told her she was dead to me and I realize now I really meant it. I cast her aside…
"You made the right decision Bella. You didn't fall for her distraction. If you had gone to LA Irkalla would be entrenched behind God knows how many vampires in the Whitehouse right now. You saw your Mom's face Bella. She was gone anyway." Jake whispered to me.
"I know Jake. I know I made the right decision. The trick is living with it, right?"
He said nothing but followed me inside. I needed to get to the Spirit world. So did Jake. I needed to get there quickly.
Jacob POV
Bella would not tell me what happened in the Spirit World between her and Irkalla. She said it was better I didn't know.
I knew that she willingly quit fighting while a vampire had its slimy hands around her neck to pull said vampire into the Spirit world and if she hadn't done it perfectly, she would not be here irritating me with her secrecy now. I can't imagine how much worse it could have gotten.
But while La Push and the Tribe prepared for the party of the century and Dad and Charlie sat inside watching the twins, Bella and I sat around a fire in our backyard, asking permission to visit the next plane of existence and trying to ignore the smell of Old Quil's joint.
I felt the familiar veil lifting from this world. A haze clouded my vision and then we were on First Beach. The starting point whenever Bells and I journeyed here together.
"Chris?!"
I couldn't believe it. He was standing there. He looked so young and happy. Tall and strong.
"Welcome. Good to see you again Jake. Good to see you again brother." He nodded at Old Quil.
"Why have you not passed on to the higher realm?" Quil sounded as shocked as I looked.
"And leave her in your hands? I don't think so." Bella was smiling. I suppose he was here when Bella came with Irkalla.
"Thanks for staying Chris. I wanted to say goodbye." Bella told him.
"Goodbye? We aren't going anywhere. I told you, I will be here whenever you need me."
"Chris you have to move on. To see Serena. It isn't right that you deny yourself…"
"I'm moving on all right Bella." His grin was a mile wide.
"I'm confused." I admitted.
"Look behind you."
Old Quil, Bella and I turned around and saw a gate had appeared on First Beach. A golden gate.
"That old devil wasn't kidding Bella. Father does have his favorites. You three have much work to do. There will be no more vampires made, so long as the venom remains closed in the box. But out of the seven billion souls on Earth right now 62,347 of them are vampires. You will always be needed to protect the physical plane. But it isn't right that the highest plane should be closed off to you."
"You mean?" Bella asked in a hushed voice.
"How would you like to be the first live souls to ever see Heaven? The trick will be leaving. But you have children holding you to Earth. It won't be a problem."
Chris took Bella's hand and walked her to the gate. I glanced at Quil and shrugged my shoulders. We followed and the gates opened up.
"Oh my God."
I would have agreed with Bella's sentiment but I was speechless. Then I saw her.
"Jacob?"
She was here. She was really here…
"Mom?"
She looked so young. But it was her. She wrapped her arms around me. She was real.
Bella POV
I watched Jake hold his mother. Old Quil's wife was here. He was crying. They were holding each other.
I looked around.
"She is not here Bella." Chris told me softly, giving me a chill.
"She's not!?"
"No. She is in Phoenix. At your old house. She went back to the last place she really had you. She is lost and confused. She needs you. Go to her. You need her too.
I closed my eyes and when I opened them I was in our Phoenix home. There was a family there. A mother and daughter were arguing over a party she wanted to go to. Mom stood in the corner watching. Not moving.
I walked near her and she jumped.
"Bella? Is it really you? Who are these people in our home?"
"Hi Mom. These people must live here now. We should leave them alone."
"I'm dead aren't I?"
"Yes Mom."
"I should have listened to you. You know when I returned to Florida, I walked in on Phil having sex? I should have listened to you. I should have stayed."
"I'm sorry I didn't come for you Mom."
"When?"
"In Los Angeles."
"When was I in Los Angeles?"
"You died today. In Los Angeles."
"Oh. I didn't know. The last thing I remember was that hideous woman making me drink this poor girl's blood. Then…I was here."
"Mom this isn't Heaven. You can go to Heaven. I was just there Mom. It's…there are no words Mom."
"No. I want to stay with you. I never have before. I never stayed. I was never there. Not the way I was supposed to be."
"Mom? I forgive you. It's okay. Please? Let me show you to Heaven."
"Are you dead? Did that bitch get you? Tell me she didn't get you. You had your baby right? I never told her about the baby. I just pretended I didn't know and then I didn't know."
"I'm not dead Mom. But I can visit you. Here or in Heaven. I had my babies. I had twins Mom. They are beautiful." I took her hands and closed my eyes. When I opened them we were in the corner of our house. Rachel was babbling and blowing on Serena's belly."
"My God Bella. They look like you. With a tan." She chuckled.
"You will probably be able to talk to them when they get older Mom. They are like Jake and me."
"Then they are very lucky. Lucky to be like you Bella. I love you. I know I was crap at showing it but I love you. I'm sorry I was never able to do the Mom thing right. I never could. But you will…"
"Mom? I forgive you. I'm sorry too."
She said nothing, but continued to stare at my babies. Claire ran in and giggled when she saw me. I waved and placed my fingered to my lips.
"I'm not ready Bella. I want to think. I need…to come to some sort of peace with myself. Can I stay here? Can I watch? I won't bother them. I just want…I want to stay with you for a while."
"I can't stay forever. I have work to do on Earth. I have to be there for my children. But I can visit you in Heaven just like I can visit you here."
"Okay…okay. Show me?"
Mom took my hand and we walked through the gate. I had left her behind but at least I could take her home.
Jake POV
It hurt to drag myself away from Mom. But it was time to go. She spoke to Bella about our children. She spoke to Old Quil about messages for Dad. Mainly one. She loved him and missed him and wanted him happy. It was okay for him to move on with Theresa.
It blew my mind that this would be here. We could…we wouldn't have to say goodbye to anyone again.
We left Heaven after gathering more hugs from Chris. The desire to see our children being the only thing that could pull us away. Before we awoke though we had one more visitor on the middle plane.
"Taha Aki."
"Jacob. Bella. Quil. Bella now that you have access to the highest realm you may have to change your title from Witch to Angel. Our tribe has certainly adopted that moniker for you."
"No more imprinting." I told him firmly.
This seemed to catch him by surprise.
"Jacob an imprint is a gift…"
"That is not always needed. My Pack can choose who they love. Quil would have been an uncle or older brother to Claire regardless."
"If this is about Embry and Leah I promise they will not…"
"We don't need imprinting. Bella and I did fine without it. Seth and Dani would have found each other eventually. It is not needed. This is a different time. A different Pack. No more. Your word?"
He reached out his hand and I took it.
"My word Alpha. Your Pack. Now and forever. Your decision. Take care of my tribe. Perhaps it is time for me to ascend."
"We will and you should. I got this. You have my word."
Taha Aki smiled, clapped me on the shoulder and was gone.
"We probably should have asked him if he had any ideas about where to hide the box." Bella mentioned.
"No. It's our problem. We will figure it out together." I was confident. There was nothing Bella and I could not accomplish together.
Bella POV
"Jake I am getting tired of that damn thing being in our garage. It's been a month! We need to decide something!"
We will figure it out together Bella, he says. In the meantime, a source of complete evil has been dwelling in our shed for the past four weeks. I had a million wards on the shed to prevent people from going inside. But still. My washing machine was in there. I had been using Billy's.
"Dave said we could put it in his place in the desert."
"Yeah. Give it to the government? I've fought it twice already. I really don't want to fight that crap a third time, much less inside a government employee."
"Space?"
"And fight a super alien vampire in five hundred years?"
"Bells…"
"Admit it Jake. With our lives…it's possible."
He shrugged his shoulders and went back to explaining the ins and outs of football to Chris. Chris still did not seem to give a damn as evidenced by the look on his face.
"Okay. Core of the Earth." Someone had to make a decision.
"How are we going to get it there?" He asked.
"I'll open a portal to an air pocket near the core and put the damn thing in."
"You going to walk it in?"
"No. I'll get Quil to do it."
"Which one?"
"Does it matter?"
Jake shrugged his shoulders and went back to explaining something called a spread formation. I looked at Serena. She couldn't do it yet but I know in her heart she was rolling her eyes.
"Bottom of the ocean?" Jake spoke up. "Marianas Trench?"
"No. I want it somewhere I can keep an eye on it."
"Then we take it to the cave we took Burk and blow the damn thing up. Take it as deep as we can and blow the cave up. Make sure no one will ever be able to go inside it again. We damn sure aren't letting any vampires on our land. "
"That's it? Just put it in a cave?"
"Yeah. Who is going to look there? No one from the tribe. You know Dad is working to close off the Reservation to the public. No one will even look for it here. No one would think we would be stupid enough to hide it near. If any vampires or humans go looking for it one day they will look in the desert. Or space. Or the deepest part of the Ocean. But they won't come here. And if they do we will handle them. It's what we are here for, right?"
I sat down next to Jake and kissed him.
"Sometimes you really can be a genius, you know that?"
"Of course. I knocked you up and got a ring on your finger before you turned twenty. This vampire stuff was part of a master plan I put in place when I was 4 years old. Only a genius could pull that off."
He had a point.
"Now if I could just get you to pick your socks up off the floor."
Narrator POV 16 years later
Cynthia Mills was very excited. Today's interview was a first for a network anchor. It had been 16 years since the attack on the Whitehouse by vampires. The world had moved on. Vampires still worked for the government. Other vampires still murdered humans. Vampire rights groups had come and gone. Terrorist organizations risen and fallen. For the most part, except for those vampires recognized by their governments, leeches stayed in the shadows. But the mystery of what happened at the Whitehouse had never been truly solved.
Rumors abounded. Government experiments to mutate wolves into vampire killing machines. A military designed weaponized armor suit. Werewolves. Witches. Magic. The President refused to talk about everything under the blanket of National security.
Eventually the ridiculous rumors went away. The slightly surreal stayed behind. One name continually popped up in conspiracy discussions over the years. Isabella Marie Swan. Now Isabella Black, wife of Jacob Black, chief of the Quileute Tribe. Reporters had been after her for years to get an interview. She refused staying on the La Push Reservation, closed off to the public. The only residents not Quileute were her father, Charlie Swan, Chief of La Push police and husband of tribal elder Sue Clearwater and Bella Black and of all people former President David Rodriguez, who lived near his daughter Danielle and her husband Congressman Seth Clearwater. Attempts to find information on Bella Black through tribe members were unsuccessful. Not one tribe member would accept money to talk about her. She was treated like a deity.
Still the legends of the Quileute spirit warriors became known over the years. Rumors of large wolves patrolling the forests around La Push persisted over the years. Stranger rumors as well.
Request after request for interviews had been shot down over the years by Chief Black or by his wife.
Finally Cynthia was given an interview with Jacob Black. In his home. Surely the mysterious Bella Swan would be there. Perhaps he could shed light on the legends of his tribe and what link they have if any to the large wolves on the North Lawn.
As she drove past the security gates she could not help but be impressed. La Push despite the difficulty of gaining access to the general public had flourished. The small reservation had doubled in population since the attack on the tribe by vampires 16 years ago. The only time outsiders were allowed unrestricted access were during the annual tribal days. Local business and trades prospered despite this. Chief Black was rumored to run an auto repair shop that serviced the vehicles of La Push for free. How he managed this was beyond Cynthia. Her financial analyst at the station had attempted to find the source of the Black's income and hit a brick wall.
Isabella Black was a stay at home mother. Her oldest children were 16 year old twins who like their mother, were not see outside the reservation much. In addition she had three other children, two daughters aged 12 and 8 and a son, age 5.
She found the Black's residence easily enough. She also noted what must be Charlie Swan's residence. He was outside on his porch in his uniform talking to an older Indian who was smoking…no. That couldn't be weed.
As she got out of the car, her cameraman prepared his equipment. Jacob Black walked out onto his porch to greet her. Cynthia took a moment to take the great Chief in.
He seemed older than his 36 years, grey hair streaking his naturally dark hair. He appeared to be out of shape, the tire around his midsection hard to miss. Although tall he was not the physical presence she had heard in descriptions of him. Lines ran over his face, creases normally caused by years of worry. He was dressed casually in blue Jeans and a tight black shirt. It was honestly a bit too tight for a man of his physique.
"Looking hot Chief!" the old Indian pot head on Chief Swan's porch shouted. Chief Black ignored him but Chief Swan seemed to find this amusing.
"Welcome Ms. Mills to our home."
She took his hand and noted that it was hot. Very, very hot.
"Chief Black, thank you so much for having me. It is truly an honor."
"Come inside and I can introduce my wife. The children are at school so we should have plenty of quiet."
Cynthia could barely contain her excitement as she followed Chief Black inside. Just inside she noticed the Chief catch his reflection in a full length mirror by the door. He stopped, seeming surprised by what he saw. She found that strange but was soon distracted by Isabella Black walking into the living room.
Isabella Black was quite frankly gorgeous. Long, rich mahognany hair. Beautiful eyes. She appeared younger than her 36 years would suggest. Not a tinge of grey hair or a single line under her eyes. She was also in phenomenal shape. Dressed in a jeans and a La Push Tribal days t shirt, she was the picture of relaxation and health.
"It is a pleasure to meet you Cynthia. I watch your Newscast almost every night. You have the best coverage of what is really happening in the World." Bella told her, offering a hand which Cynthia took.
"Thank you so much. Both of you, to agreeing to this interview."
"Of course. We believe it is time the rest of the world began to see the beauty of La Push that we are surrounded by every day. Jake honey why don't you go put on a shirt that would be more appropriate for television?"
"Of course dear. I always want to look my best for you." Chief Black looked annoyed but stood up and walked away to change. Cynthia did not understand his annoyance. It certainly wasn't his wife's fault that he had not kept himself in shape over the years. He wasn't that old. At 36 he could certainly take some time to hit the gym.
The interview started off quite boring. Cynthia was excited about Isabella or Bella as she preferred agreeing to be on camera but quickly figured out that she would be allowing her husband to do most of the talking. Cynthia asked questions about the recovery of La Push from the devastating attack many years ago, the logging industry, the local craftsman who made such beautiful art. She learned Chief Black also was a bit of an artist, as evidenced by the bracelet of carved wolves on Bella's wrist. She explained that Jake as he insisted on being called, had carved a wolf for every child they had. This led to the discussion, Cynthia had came for.
"Chief Black, I would like to ask you now about the rumors, really legends that have sprung up about the Quileute people over the years. Specifically that men from this tribe have the ability to change into wolves. Wolves that saved the President of the United States from the vampire Irkalla 16 years ago."
"Yes, those do add a bit of mystique to our people." Jake agreed, laughing.
"Are they true?" Cynthia asked.
"Cynthia you are asking me if men from my tribe turned into giant wolves and attacked vampires in Washington. Doesn't that seem like a preposterous idea?" he chuckled.
Cynthia did not find it amusing. She noted he did not deny it.
"16 years ago I was a 20 year old college student and would have told you the idea of vampires was preposterous. Yet the world changed. To be honest, I'm not sure the World would find anything preposterous in this day and age. There have been wolf sightings in different parts of the country. Wolves destroying homicidal vampires. There have also been reports of the armored woman from the White House grounds appearing out of nowhere and saving people from vampires over the years. The Government of course denies the existence of such a woman." Cynthia took a deep breath.
"Are you the mysterious woman in armor Bella? The fabled Angel of La Push?"
"Cynthia when the White House was attacked, I was two weeks removed from giving birth to twins." Bella said calmly.
"And yet retired Secret Service agents and White House staff over the years have said you were in contact and often spoke with the President. How did you know the President, Bella? An 18 year old new mother from Washington. There have been reports from the same sources that the President, a La Push resident himself, despite not being a member of the tribe along with his daughter who now lives here in La Push attended your wedding to Jacob. That is where Danielle Clearwater met Congressman Clearwater, correct?"
"Yes, he did attend my wedding. Danielle and I had corresponded over email and Facebook and became friends. She met Seth at the wedding."
"You corresponded with the President's daughter? That has to be a fascinating story. I would..."
"Cynthia?"
Cynthia looked into Bella's eyes.
"My relationship with Danielle Clearwater is personal. No need to go into that."
Cynthia was confused. Wasn't that the point? Of course it was personal. No…it was personal. Social media was the source of many strange relationships. Nothing strange about it.
"Of course. Benny cut that question."
"Cynthia…"
"Benny?"
Benny looked at Bella Black.
"Do as Cynthia tells you."
"Of course." Benny deleted the frame.
"Moving on, Bella, why do you believe the vampire in Los Angeles called you out personally? Your mother was…murdered by a vampire at the time the White House was being attacked, correct? I believe the current Director of the FBI, Graham Levoi was the agent in charge of that investigation."
"Cynthia, I would rather not talk about…"
"Cynthia I was under the impression you wanted to speak about the recovery and growth of La Push and perhaps touch on our legends." Jake joined in.
"Isn't your wife a legend of La Push?" she countered.
"I assure you I am just a normal stay at home Mom who wants to raise my children in peace. There is nothing special about me. Why was my mother targeted? I went to high school with vampires. Dated one for a time, not a time I like to think about. I suppose I was known in vampire circles because of that. It is the only explanation I have and I have not been told anything else."
"So you are denying Jake that the wolves on the White House lawn were from La Push?"
Jake looked at Cynthia and smiled.
"Cynthia I assure you there are no werewolves in La Push. At the time of the attacks on the White House my wife had just given birth. I think that will be all we have to say on the subject." Jake smiled but his tone left no doubt.
The interview carried on. Jacob talked of his plans to open La Push up more to the public. He spoke of the beauty of the land and open tourist seasons he was considering. Certain parts of La Push of course would always be off limits due to being sacred land but most of the land was too difficult for people to reach in any case.
Cynthia thanked the Blacks for the interview and left. She had two hours of tape but did not get the momentous announcement she hoped for. The Blacks certainly seemed like a normal couple. Nothing special about them. She supposed a piece on the thriving reservation of La Push, while a bit boring would be news with the appearance of Bella Black. Let the public decide if she is as boring as she wants to the World to believe. Cynthia quite frankly believed her.
In the Black house, things were not boring. The children had arrived home from school.
"Hey Dad. What's with the old look? Kinda freaky." Chris noted walking in.
"I just finished an interview. Your mother decided I needed to look like a fifty year old bum and she could be the trophy wife." Jake said, casting an annoyed glance at Bella.
"Emily called, Chris." Bella told her oldest son while her oldest daughter tried to walk past.
"Not so fast young lady." Jacob told Serena, halting her escape.
"So what did Mrs. Uley want?"
"She wanted to know why her son and mine are going at each other like gladiators on a daily basis. I thought the temper issues were coming under control. Why are you and Jay fighting?"
"He whined to his Mom?" Chris asked, instantly infuriated.
"No, she saw the broken nose. You don't heal instantly. He tried to hide it. What that hell is going on? And why does Emily think this is over you Serena?"
"I need to help Bridget with her math. I promised." Serena said quickly.
"Tell her. Tell Dad, Serena."
"Tell me what?"
"Nothing." Serena said quickly, glaring at her twin.
"I caught them in the forest making out. He was going to bite her!"
"He what!"
"Jake calm down." Bella said calmly. "Serena…"
"He wasn't going to bite me. We were in the moment. I wouldn't have let him."
"Damn it. You are too young for that!"
"I love him." Serena said quietly.
"Biting Serena?!" Jake yelled, not calming down at all.
"Chris wanted to bite Jessie." Serena accused, hoping to turn the focus on her twin's relationship with Kim and Jared's oldest daughter.
"Okay, Jake maybe you should call the Pack together and issue a no biting Alpha order." Bella suggested.
"Oh we are having a Pack meeting. I suppose you want Jessie to bite you as well Chris?" Jake challenged. Jessie had phased two weeks before Chris.
"No! I…"
"No biting! Anybody! We may as well have kept imprinting if this was going to be the case. 16 year old hormonal teenagers claiming each other with teeth. Ridiculous." Jacob seethed.
"Who are you and why have you eaten my father?" Bridget asked, walking back in and taking Jake's appearance in. Her younger brother and sister were snickering.
"Bella!"
"Sorry." Bella whispered a familiar chant and her and Jake were back to their normal 18 year old selves.
"Look, you three are going to your grandpa's. The four of us have work to do." Bella instructed her youngest.
"Seriously Mom?" Chris asked, anger forgotten.
"Yes. Two vampires in Kentucky appear to be setting up a hunting area. We search and destroy. Your father and I take the lead. Understand?"
"Sweet." They both whispered.
