So, I know it took me forever to load this chapter. But I got a couple request asking to see what the 'Rivers' wrote on the back of the picture. Hopefully this won't disappoint. Remember, they only had the back of a Polaroid picture to write on.

I own nothing

The Doctor stuck the picture of the Rivers, Martha, and he in a book Martha picked up, and made a mental note to take it onto the TARDIS when they got it back. And he actually remembered. But shortly after he and Martha returned to the TARDIS, they were sent to the end of the universe with Jack where the Master stole the TARDIS in order to create the year that never was. Then Martha left and Donna came aboard. With Donna, the most important woman in the universe, he saved the earth from the Sontarans, had a daughter, lost a daughter, and met his future wife only to lose her as well. And then Rose came back, and like everyone else, she left him, but it was at his insistence and with a piece of himself, a clone of him. He traveled alone for a bit, by this time never thinking about the couple he had met in 1969 London. And then his time came to close, and he became a new person. He met little Amelia Pond who grew up to be his best friend. Her husband, the boy who waited, Rory the Roman, came aboard and managed to become his friend, despite their rocky start. They were the first companions he picked up on earth to not only treat him as family, but to actually become it when he married their daughter, River Song, the woman who he had watched die years before. And then he lost them too, all three of them. Amy and Rory to the Weeping Angels, and said his final goodbyes to River at the Singing Towers. And he mourned for a while, only to be dragged out of his funk by the mysterious Clara Oswald. Another first as far as companions go, because as much as he would deny to her, the TARDIS really didn't like her. In fact, she had locked Clara out of the control room on more than one occasion. It was on one of these occasions that Clara had decided to go look around the library.

"Doctor," she asked, when the TARDIS decided to let her in. "Why was there an old picture in one of the books?"

"Well, there are lots of books with pictures in them," he informed her. He could practically hear the eye roll.

"A Polaroid picture with four random people and hand written notes on the back?" she questioned as she held up the photograph in question.

The Doctor searched his memory and he reached out his hand for the picture. It only took a few seconds for his Time Lord memory to pick out the memory. "Oh, of course! The Rivers! Nice couple. Liked the husband, the wife was a bit temperamental if I recall. She hated me and then she loved me."

"Happens a lot yeah?"

"Probably more than it should," he admitted as she gave him the picture. He took one glance at it and froze. He knew it was the correct memory, because he and Martha were sitting in the flat they had rented, but the other two faces staring back at him were even more familiar and recent. Granted, they were older too. He quickly flipped the picture and saw the only confirmation he needed. Amy and Rory had both written him a message. He couldn't help but notice that it appeared like Amy had made Rory write his on top.

Hello again,

I never got to say goodbye. Or thank you. I know we may not have always seen eye to eye, especially in the beginning, but you were always there for me and more importantly for Amy. You were there to take care of her when I couldn't be. I can never thank you enough for that, even if I was a bit confused and angry at the time. Doctor, you changed my life in so many ways that I never would have thought possible or even wanted until you came along. You showed me that I could be more than the nurse from Leadsworth and be whoever I wanted to be. Before I met you, I would have never suspected that would have been a Roman who fought aliens and sparked legends. But you helped me to have a family with Amy, and even repair bonds with my father. Doctor, just know you will always be a part of my family, and that you're one of my best mates.

Rory

Raggedy Man,

Hopefully you don't remember about these messages too soon. Otherwise you're going to be wondering how Rory and I ended up in 1969 older and without you. Spoilers. I know I left you the afterwards, but that was years ago for me, and it could have been a millennia for you. So, let me thank you again for all of the amazing things you showed me. You took my childhood fantasies and turned almost all of them into reality, and then showed me more. And the few you didn't, Rory appreciates and did. I told you never to travel alone, and I meant it. As I sit in the same room as a younger version of you, I see you hiding the same pain that you always try to shield your friends from. Doctor, you need to get out of your head some and remember that you deserve every good thing that has ever happened to you. You are my best friend, even after all of these years. Please, Doctor, be safe, and even though I know it's pointless to tell you, don't do anything too stupid. And find someone who will take care of you. I can't always be there to imagine you back into existence.

Amelia Pond
