Coercions, Cakes and Confessions
A/N: It sure has been a while but hopefully it's worth the wait…
The car came to a stop, surprisingly outside a home in the suburbs. I peeked out of the window, looking up to study the homely bungalow, reminding me of the house back in Phoenix. I noticed that the white gate leading to the back garden had blue and yellow balloons decorating it.
"Here we are" my captor revealed, opened the car door and stepped out.
I followed after him and sighed, revelling in the warmth of the sunlight but was distracted with the sound of children's laughter. "Are we crashing a children's party?" I wondered with a confused grimace.
My kidnapper simply ignored my inquiry and surprised me by placing a hand on my back and leading me up the path. We then stepped up to the porch so he could ring the doorbell, all the while, he continued to hold me close by his side.
When the ding sounded, we heard as a pair of heels approached the door. "Oh, the clown's finally arrived" a female voice cheered and I grew more perplexed by the minute. However, I now understood that I was supposed to shut up and wait.
Finally the door opened to reveal a young woman in an orange sundress.
"Sorry to disappoint" my kidnapper smirked deviously and I looked back to the woman who was clearly not expecting our visit.
Her green eyes widened, "Klaus" she gasped, staring wide-eyed at him and I looked back to the man standing beside me. The name 'Klaus' was sharp yet foreign and with his rich English accent and uniquely handsome looks, I decided it suited him perfectly.
Klaus?
Could it be short for something?
"You cannot be here" the woman finally stammered out.
My abductor – Klaus, grinned deviously and darkly stared at her. "Whatever happened to that lovable hospitality?" he questioned in a sickeningly sweet tone.
"I said I would come to you" the unknown woman crossed her arms over her chest and glared at him. Her shock now dissipating as she gained confidence.
Klaus was obviously better at the game as he sternly replied, "I got tired of waiting"
She looked behind her apprehensively and then stepped forwards, closing the door behind her as she angrily hissed, "I can't do this!" she continued to glare at him but cast a wary glance towards me. "My whole family is in there! It's my cousin's birthday" she revealed and tried to make us back down towards the front lawn.
However, Klaus simply ignored this. "I do love cake" he smiled playfully.
When she realised what he was suggesting, she straightened up again and loudened her voice. "I am not inviting you into my house" she growled decisively.
Whatever else she was going to say was interrupted with a child opening the door and running out. "Lucy…" the child called and the woman spun around with a fearful gasp. "You're gonna miss the cake!" the little girl called.
All eyes fall onto the strange smirk Klaus he now wore but before I could make sense of what was happening, he was suddenly by the child and had grabbed her. "Very nice dress" he purred and threateningly looked towards the woman named Lucy. "Wouldn't want to stain that" he added and I gasped when he revealed his fangs.
Once I found my strength, I stumbled towards him but stopped when I was a foot away. "Please don't" I pleaded.
"Can we please come in?" Klaus asked, ignoring me completely. The fangs were still bared and I helplessly looked around to the other streets, wondering where he got the courage to do this in broad daylight.
Then, I mulled over why he was asking for an invite rather than simply pushing his way in.
My eyes then fell onto Lucy and how she finally broke from the trance. "Fine! Fine" she gave in. "Just let her go" she pleaded and I sympathised with how tears brimmed in her eyes and her breaths quickened, accelerating by the second.
After another beat of silence, he nodded but still smiled when releasing the girl, who quickly ran to Lucy. Once they embraced, Lucy straightened up and coldly gritted through his clenched teeth. "Would you like to come in?"
"Pleasure" Klaus smoothly replied and I closed my eyes, angered but in disbelief with how close he came to killing someone – a child nonetheless. Would he have really done it? Is he that much of a monster?
Turning to Lucy and the child, I muttered an apology, "I am so sorry" I trembled but she simply bowed her head and quietly walked up the house, leaving the door opened for us.
Obviously this was something very big as she seemed so defeated. Klaus had also gone too far for a simple invite and I wondered – did he – could he not enter a house without an invitation?
What exactly I had gotten myself into?
However, the thought process was cut short when my wrist was roughly yanked and I was being dragged along. Once again, he made our way up the steps and on the porch, before walking into the brightly decorated house.
"What is he doing here?"
Someone else who hated Klaus…
I wondered if I would ever have the pleasure of encountering someone who had seen the good in him. Maybe his sister?
Well, this morning he hadn't been too horrible but I did have to remember that I was currently kidnapped and not here by choice. Though, that didn't necessarily mean he was all bad…did it?
"Loretta, good to see you too" I heard Klaus greet the older woman and step inside the house.
The elderly woman who bared resemblance to Lucy, pushed her wheelchair closer towards us. "You invited this – t-this monster into our home" the old woman croaked fiercely before breaking into spluttered coughs.
"He promises to behave" I finally spoke up, wanting to give them some peace before Klaus threatened them again.
When all eyes fell on me, including his, the woman wheeled herself to me. "And who the hell are you? Why are you in my house?" she glared at me accusingly.
"That's what I'm here to find out" I spoke again, tired of having them act like I wasn't even here.
Lucy whispered something to the little girl who then ran off. The older woman, who I assumed was Lucy's grandmother, reluctantly backed out of the room, leaving the three of us again.
"My bedroom will do" Lucy hoarsely whispered.
Klaus smiled at me and then turned back to her, "Lead the way"
Again, he grabbed my hand and pulled me up the stairs, leading me up with him. Along the way, we passed the scattered family pictures on the wall and I wondered the relationship between Klaus and Lucy. They obviously weren't friends so did she work for him?
I didn't have time to think over it because we were led into a white and beige themed bedroom. Four simple walls with a large bed, chest of drawers and a closet.
Klaus walked around and I caught as he hooked his finger to pick up the black lace bra hanging on the headboard. In an instant, Lucy pushed him and snatched it out of his hands before stowing it away in one of the drawers. "Can we just do this?" she huffed when turning back to us.
"By all means" Klaus continued to peruse the room and pick up different things and study them. Now he was studying her jewellery box and then closed the lid, moving on to the next.
Lucy placed her hands on her hips and sniffled as she regained authority. "Well you're going to have to wait outside" she ordered.
"Excuse me?" he scoffed, dropping the trinket to stare at her.
She didn't back down as she made up an excuse, "Your negativity is all over the room" she explained like it was logical and I frowned in confusion.
"Okay" Klaus surprised me with his compliance. "Maybe I'll make it to the cake" he teased and clapped his hands together before leaving the room with his signature smirk.
Once the door was closed, I nervously stood by the wall, waiting for what was going to happen next. I doubted that Lucy was going to hurt me because she didn't seem to have it in her. Then again, I couldn't exactly be sure.
"Isabella right?" she guessed.
I slowly looked up, surprised with the sudden warmth softening her expression so I nodded, "But Bella's fine" I corrected and anxiously fidgeted my fingers, drumming them against my side.
"Sure thing" she replied with a sympathetic voice as she fell down on the bed, shifting so she could get comfortable. "Why don't you sit down with me?" Lucy offered and gently patted the space next to her. Despite my better judgement, I comforted myself with her smile and took the seat. "Take my hands" she ordered, surprising me. "Go on" she added when I didn't comply.
Slowly and tentatively, I brought up my quivering hands. When they were mid-air, she didn't wait when taken them in her own. Suddenly, the contact strengthened some kind of connection and the warmth that I had for her grew with the touch. A strange shuddering trembled between the two of us and I gasped, "What is that?"
"That feeling…" she paused with a wider grin. "That feeling tells you that you can trust me" she explained but I still comprehend what she meant. However, Lucy didn't seem to notice this as she rubbed her hands together, readying herself for something. "Now that you know, why don't we practice something together?" she asked rhetorically and then walked away from me and into the closet. I watched dumfounded as she crouched down and when she stood up to turn to me again, she had a large book in her hands. "Combining our energies will strengthen this particular one…" she continued and I found myself feeling lost once again.
"Okay…" I drawled out, still trying to make sense of her hippie language. "I don't know what you're talking about" I finally managed to get out when everything she had done and said still didn't give me an explanation.
"What?" she gasped and the book fell from her hands. "You really don't know" she breathed and just as I was about to reply, the door was flung open and Klaus made himself known.
As the door slammed to a close behind him, he angrily stormed in, "What?!"
Lucy made her way over to him and began rambling. "How? How can she not know?" she demanded hysterically, "She's practically eighteen years old"
"I am eighteen" I confirmed as it was the only thing I could offer.
Klaus ignored her and finally focused on me. A burning gleam in his eyes as he sauntered over to me and locked gazes with me. "Are you playing some kind of game?" he arched a perfect brow.
"If I am can I get the rules" I retorted but was met with a speculative silence. "You lock me in here with some crazy gypsie talking about energies and apparently, I'm the one who's in the wrong!" my outburst wasn't responded to.
"How can you not know?" he asked, suddenly grabbing hold of my upper arm.
I wince and wrenched myself free from his grasp. "Know what?"
"That you're a witch"
A/N: Well it's all being pieced together. Why Klaus wants her…
Anyone ever crashed a children's birthday party?
