Arthur stood outside awkwardly, checking his watch form time to time. The Ball had started 15 minutes ago. Where was Alfred? Did he chicken out? Arthur frowned as his fatalistic side took over.

Did he meet in an accident?

"Still gonna complain about the suits!" Alfred sighed as he dashed into the school, running to where the ball was held. He had spent half his day trying to get his suit right, and that was with the help of Mattie.

He honestly couldn't get why the suit was necessary.

Running into the hall, Alfred scanned the room before spotting Arthur and getting to him. He hid his right hand behind his back.

"Artie! Dude! I'm so sorry for being late!" He apologized as he approached the Brit. "The.. uhh.. cab broke down."

Not gonna talk about the suit. Nope.

Arthur chuckled. "It's the suit isn't it?" He remembered how Alfred had kicked a fuss about the Ball the first time they met.

He'd never forget.

"... No." Alfred looked away. "Why would it be the suit? Ahahaha..."

...

"Yes it's killing me." he gave up; always a bad liar. "How do you live with this?!"

Arthur gave a hearty laugh and helped Alfred re-tie his messy tie. After he finished, he tiptoed to give Alfred a kiss. Damn him and the growth spurt; Alfred was just so bloody tall.

"Ready, love?"

Alfred flushed; Arthur could get a lot bolder than him once he's comfortable with stuff.

"Just a second." he took the bouquet of flowers out. "Here you go. 12 red roses... Representing..."

Oh shit what had Matt said about them?

"... Something," he finished off lamely.

Arthur's eyes lit up as he tried to suppress his smile, failing terribly. He gave Alfred a hug and a kiss on the lips.

"12 means I'll love you forever."

Alfred laughed. "Yeap. That's the one. I totally knew it from the start." Then, taking Arthur hand to his face, he smiled.

"Shall we dance now? My love?"

Arthur smiled and nodded, bringing his thumb to caress Alfred's face.

Alfred brought Arthur hand to his mouth for a kiss. "Well what are we waiting for? I took lessons just to dance with you, you know." He joked.

Arthur dramatically shook his head and sighed, pushing the doors of the gym open.

It was dimly lit, loud music with pumped up bass making the floor tremble. Boys in their suits, girls in their gowns, everyone was just dancing with their love. Arthur held Alfred's hand the whole time, afraid of losing him in the intense crowd.

The two made their way near the center of the crowd, and under Arthur's guidance, started to slowly sway to the music. It felt just like the first time they dance together.

Their hearts beat to the music beats as the two danced. Alfred was still nervous about everything, but if was a little different from the first time.

For one, everything couldn't have felt more right this time. Arthur belongs to him, and vice couldn't agree with that arrangement more.

"Artie." He whispered among the noises. "I'm so glad that I fell in love with you. "

"Great, because I feel the same way too," Arthur whispered back.

"Thanks for being my hero, git." He rested his head on Alfred's shoulder, smiling to himself as they continued waltzing.

Alfred never felt this happy in his life.

"You won't regret it," He whispered beside Arthur's ear, "this hero here's gonna protect and love you forever."

"Even if I'm wrinkled, old and sitting in a wheelchair?" Arthur joked, looking up at Alfred.

"Geez. Do I have to read the definition of 'forever' out for you?" Alfred laughed and pinched Arthur's nose. "You know what i mean."

"Of course I do, judging by my higher ability to read the atmosphere," Arthur teased harmlessly.

"You're intoxicating, you know that." Alfred smiled.

"You're dazzling you know that?"

"Of course I know, I'm the hero."

"My Hero rather."

"Talk about being the gentleman. What happened to sharing?" he joked.

"Do you feel the need to share?" Arthur ventured. "Am I not good enough for you?" The Brit feigned hurt.

After their harmless verbal spar, a familiar guitar solo played. Arthur looked upwards and couldn't help but smile wider. "Remember this song?" He looked up at Alfred.

"Hard to forget." Alfred chuckled. "You know what else is hard to forget?"

"That you tried killing me with a stapler. You know, just to keep things in order." He reminded with a cheeky grin.

"Well excuse you, how was I supposed to know you were made for me?" Arthur retorted.

"Then never forget that." Alfred smirked, "and to remind you," He brought Arthur's left hand up, slipping something onto his ring finger.

"I'm a student, so don't expect anything from me now." he rubbed his nose, looking away. "But one day, I'll get you a gold one. Or whatever you want. I promise." He smiled sincerely.

Arthur's mouth was wide open. He stared at the plastic ring in disbelief. He felt tears run down his face as he tackled Alfred with a hug, resting his head on the American's shoulder.

"Oh my God Alfred, this is more than enough!"

"Are you sure you don't want a better one?" Alfred laughed, hugging Arthur right back. "Nothing can be too good for you, y'know."

"Alfred, this is more than enough you dolt. Don't make me repeat that!" Arthur kissed Alfred on the lips, holding him close.

The night lasted for a long time, and the both of them enjoyed it to the last second.

As they walked out of the gym, tightly holding each other's hand, Alfred wondered about how getting trapped in the classroom had gotten him his love.

Everything that happened was just... almost magical.

This time, he thought as he gave their linked hands a glance.

He's not letting go.

And he never will.
