Chapter 29

Enemy of mine
Fuck you like the devil
Violent inside
Beautiful and evil

"So this is it then?"

"Yes, it seems so."

"You're just going to leave now?"

"Indeed, Dean. Believe me, I will miss this but you have your own life that you have to take care of now."

"I know, it's just…" Dean sighed. Michael had announced this morning, in his head of course, that he was going to leave soon. There were still many things to take care of in heaven and Dean was pretty busy himself so Michael had decided that it was time.

In the two weeks after the battle, Michael and Dean had been tied to the bed for a few days. Well, they were pretty much able to move around normally again after a few hours of rest but there were several people in the house that wouldn't exactly let him.

For one, Sam. He was watching like a mother hen, like always. When he wasn't busy helping Bobby restore the house, he was with Dean, talking to him and making sure he didn't leave the bed. Sure, in theory Michael could just leave with him but…there were these two other things… Namely, His angelic brothers. They were just as bad. Gabriel and Castiel constantly insisted that they had everything under control in heaven, that they managed. And they were very accurate when it came to leaving Michael in bed. 'Your wings are not healed yet, Michael' 'it could get worse if you start flying around unnecessarily', they said. They were right, of course, but the ability to move around was something he missed. After two days in bed, he snapped and got up.

"I'm not going to fly, guys. I just want to be able to move, okay?!" he grunted out. And obediently, he settled for minor tasks in the house or settled down by Adam's side while he was reading in his giant book, giving useful side information to the youngest addition of their family.

No, that wasn't quite correct. The newest addition was just walking into the room when he told Adam about the birth of men and his namesake. Her black hair was in a lose side braid and to Dean, she seemed out of place for a moment. Lisa Braeden was certainly not a figure you would expect to see when walking into a half destroyed house like Bobby Singer's. She sat next to him, stroked his arm and smiled at him warmly.

"Ben seems to like it here. I think he's asking Bobby about every single car in that yard." She sneaked her fingers into his and looked him in the eye. Dean couldn't help but smile back at her.

"I'm glad. I could teach him a thing or two about cars. I mean, if he wants to." The suggestion came easy, after all, he had tried to teach Sam once and since he himself learned from his father it seemed appropriate to him. Far more appropriate than Ben wanting to be a hunter for example.

"I'm sure he'd love that." Lisa leaned against his shoulder and Dean kissed the top of her head. Inside him, Michael let Dean take the reigns for now. Sure, he was an angel but love like this, this close, personal relationship, it wasn't anything he could really reign in on. It was humankind's greatest gift his father gave them and the relationships between angels were much different to the human's. It was in this moment that Michael decided it was time for him to leave soon.

And so the hour came in which the Archangel prepared his goodbyes.

"I know, it's strange to think about, we've been together so long. It's going to be a bit painful too, since we joined together not that long ago."

"Please don't make this sound dirty." Dean protested. A chuckle came from the angel.

"Will you be fine though? When we merged you were at the edge of dying, weren't you? And you're still a little weakened now." Dean continued, questions in his mind directed to the archangel. He was sitting outside in the yard between the cars, he hadn't told anyone about their separation yet, didn't know if he should.

"I will be alright. Those wounds have healed along with those from the final battle. The growing strength of heaven's host has made me more powerful than ever."

"Good...that's good. And you promise you won't just abandon us, become a dick again, take Cas and Gabriel with you and never communicate?" another laugh from Michael at Dean's ridiculous fears.

"Don't worry. I keep my promises. The angels and hunters will be working together for a long time to come. Castiel and Gabriel will remain here while helping me rebuilt and will act as primal communicators between you hunters and myself. Though if I feel like it, I should still be able to communicate with you directly."

"Well that won't be weird at all, me hearing voices in my head and talking to myself….like right now." Another laugh, this time from both of them. It was strange, how Michael's voice was still in his head when talking to him. In general, it was difficult to see the difference between their minds sometimes and that was one of the things that scared Dean a little sometimes. This eternal knowledge and power right there in front of him, far too big for him to grasp but still somehow in his head, present. But unlike what Jimmy had described him about being used by Cas, it wasn't painful. In fact, Dean dreaded the moment this inner peace and content would leave him and reveal the holes he still had from what he'd been through all his life. He feared that he would fall back into old habits and ruin all their plans all over again. What if he did something stupid again?

"Of course, if the need for help arises from situations far above your head you can always count on me, Dean." It was as if Michael tried to reassure him with these words, following his bitter and desperate train of thought.

"And should I need my vessel…"

"…I'll be here. Sure." Dean tried to snap out of it and shook his head. "Yeah. I should probably tell the others you're leaving. They'll want to say goodbye." And Dean turned back towards the house, walking there. Of course flying worked again, they had tried, but maybe they were just enjoying the last little walk they would have as one being.

Michael was a little touched by the sentiment they showed him at the house. Apparently, all the ill will towards him that had existed in the beginning had now disappeared. Sam especially showed his change of heart by thanking Michael over and over for all he did. He went out of his way to tell him that without him, he'd probably be in that cage with Lucifer right now. He sounded like he was joking but Michael was serious when he answered that it was no problem. Because with his knowledge of time and its flows he knew, in case Dean did not say yes to him, that was one of the ways things could have turned out. He of course didn't mention that one of the ways was him also being down there in that cage, with or without Dean.

The others were more modest with their goodbyes. Bobby of course thanked him wholeheartedly for the ability to walk again and Adam for his book. Abby surprised him by hugging him fiercely and thanking him for his acceptance and the necklace to control her powers. She had told him about how he she was able to exorcise Saimon with those powers and Gabriel's help. Michael and Dean were both simultaneously proud of her (and their whole team) for achieving what they did. Concerning Abby they also both agreed that her and Sam were just stalling by now, dancing around each other, neither of them bold enough to make the first move. Dean was pretty sure Sam had acted out several scenarios in that big head of his and had not acted on a single one of them.

"Goodbye, my friends. Time to get Heaven back in order." Were Michael's final words of farewell and in a flash of blinding light and screeching, he was gone.

Dean opened his eyes hesitatingly, looking around. He felt his chest for any wounds reappearing but like Michael said, he was completely fine. There was still a scar in the middle of his chest where Death grabbed Michael's grace though but the archangel said that would probably never go away. Dean didn't really mind, before Michael had been with him, his body had been full of scars. Just one of them –well two, adding the handprint on his shoulder- was just prove of what he'd been through. He thought it was kind of ironic how both his remaining scars were due to angels, the creatures that normally healed everyone around them.

He heaved in another breath, expecting it to be more difficult. He blinked, expecting his eyesight to get worse. But he still felt great and he still felt fit and his eyes were still better than before Michael came.

"I…I don't feel much different." He finally breathed. Everybody in the room was staring at him. Sam frowned in confusion. Abby was next to him, looking concerned but holding Sam's hand for reassurance. Bobby sat next to Adam in one of the kitchen chairs, lifting an eyebrow at his statement while Gabriel and Castiel leaned against the wall over to his right. The only ones not there were Ben and Lisa. They had gone out for some arrangements because of their house earlier and because Ben had to go to school.

"I thought I'd feel different." He confessed, looking up from his hands. Of course something was different. That great knowledge and power in his head was gone. He felt Michael's absence like a part of him was missing. But he didn't expect everything to still be alright. He'd expected his body to collapse, his trauma to return to the front of his mind. He expected…some…fallout.

"It's probably your angel blood that's helping but...maybe this whole thing has actually a positive impact on you." Gabriel threw in helpfully. He had stayed, like Michael had said, he was to act like the messenger of Heaven again, just like the good old days. Sam smiled at him with wide shining eyes.

"But…that's good, isn't it? You're not burnt up on the inside or anything, you can still walk and talk." A grin spread across his face and he went forward to hug his brother fiercely.

"Welcome back, Dean." He grinned into his ear and clapped him on the back with one of his arms.

"What, after all they've been through you thought my brother would lie to you and harm Dean?" Gabriel sounded offended, glaring at the younger Winchester. Sam rolled his eyes.

"Don't act like we've never been tricked by an angel before, Trickster." He glared right back and Gabriel raised his arms in mock defeat, grinning.

"You're not wrong." He admitted but didn't seem to be sorry for any of it. Deep inside, Sam still wanted to strangle him for what he did to Dean. Maybe it was better Dean didn't remember all of that-

"Oh yeah, about that." Dean interrupted his thoughts. He walked over to Gabriel, raised his right hand and punched the guy right in the face. It had to hurt like hell and Gabriel didn't move, he was so stunned. Dean held his hand but still grinned, even in pain.

"Ah, that felt good. Wow, haven't felt pain in a while. Not so pleasant." He grunted.

"What was that for?" Gabriel sounded actually hurt, but more like he meant his feelings and not his body. He didn't even flinch at the punch, and that hurt Dean's pride a little more than he'd like to admit.

"I remember everything now, about that day and what you put me through. Thank your brother for that. I remember everything every angel ever tried to erase from my memory and everything else in my life. Even that one time Michael visited me and Mom when I was like…one year old. Everything's so clear now and some of it isn't really pretty. So yeah. Thanks for that." Of course some memories were still fuzzier than others and Dean was glad about that. For example, Hell seemed like a distant memory, after all that bright, comforting light cased inside him for so long, he couldn't even feel the darkness at the edge of his vision any longer. He dropped in a nearby chair, still holding his hand. God, he hoped he didn't break his fingers the first time he punched somebody after Michael left him.

"I couldn't punch you with Michael still there, he didn't let me." He confessed and Gabriel now closed his eyes, sighing.

"Okay, I admit. Maybe I overdid it a little and … I'm sorry, Dean. Sam." He finally looked them both in the eye and did a little bow.

"Should I.." he hesitated but pointed at Dean's hand. Dean wanted to protest but damn, it hurt!

"I heard your bones crack. This'll take far too long to heal naturally." Gabriel was grinning again and he leaned forward, touching Dean's forehead. Finally, the pain was gone. Damnit, so he actually did break his fingers! He would bet his best gun on it Gabriel would never let him forget that.

"Well that was certainly not something I missed." Dean admitted, getting up from the chair and flexing his fingers.

"So, what now?" he asked around, letting his hand drop to his side again. He looked at all their faces and how they were watching him. Bobby shrugged.

"Hell, I don't know. We still have plenty to clean up. The house still has repairs to do, those demons wrecked it good. Then there's post-apocalyptic stuff to take care of but I'm sure the angels will handle most of that. We still have to call in with all the hunters I know and see if they're still alive and or willing to cooperate with what you guys are planning to do." Dean nodded at Bobby's list of things. He sighed, drawing his hand through his hair. One thing was different: Movements like that felt much more natural now.

"I also have Lisa and Ben to think about. Lisa said she wanted to stay, whatever I deserved that with.." he paused, looking lost for a moment. Nobody said anything but Sam smiled warmly. In his mind, Dean deserved everything he good he got and so much more. He shot Abby a thoughtful glance and noticed that she was also looking his way.

The things that Bobby mentioned were all true. The world was still in chaos. There were many demons roaming around, far more than they had let free that one time. They were all searching for the rings, trying to get Lucifer back out of the pit. But like Michael had suggested, they had hidden them well. Bobby had already assembled a rag tag Team of his best hunter friends who were at first reluctant to work with the angels but as they got to know of the benefits, quickly adapted. Bobby's yard had always been a place for hunters to crash and gather but like Michael suggested, it was now becoming some sort of hunter central. And with Gabriel and Cas as frequent guests, devil's traps and such everywhere, Bobby's auto salvage yard was probably one of the safest places in the world to be right now. And with the world still rebuilding around them, they had to use this to their advantage.

Dean came to a sudden halt. He was done thinking but now something else occurred to him.

He was starving.

"Oh God. Bobby, d'you have something to eat?" he asked. "Man, I could eat a whole pig right now," he confessed. This earned him several laughs thoughtout the room and Bobby just motioned to the fridge.

"I'm pretty well stocked these days with all you guys being here." He sighed. "Guess I'll have to learn how to cook now, huh?" the seasoned hunter didn't really sound thrilled about it. He was saved by Adam, who grinned at him, clapping his shoulder.

"Don't worry, I can cook. I used to cook for me and my mother all the time." He stood up, walking over to the fridge to open it. Adam had been quiet during the whole Apocalypse-mess but he seemed to be warming up to them now. They were his only family left and he had learned to love them for the odd balls out they were.

"I was thinking, maybe I could try and finish my Degree." He hesitated a bit and placed ingredients next to the stove. He motioned for Dean to come and help him cut.

"I was going to be a Doctor before that Ghoul killed me, you know." He turned and looked at Bobby. "I bet a Hunter-Doctor could help you a lot, couldn't it? In case there isn't an angel in handy at the moment." He smiled and then felt everybody stare at him in awe. Dean shook his head in bewilderment. For the guy who was at first reluctant to even call them related, he now sure sounded like he enjoyed living here with them.

"What? Am I wrong?" Adam asked and Bobby shook his head, smiling to himself.

"No, ya idjit. We're just surprised you're so eager about all of this even though the first thing you wanted to do when you came back to life was becoming an angel condom." At that, even Adam couldn't suppress his grin.

"Yeah, well, I changed my mind. Maybe this isn't as bad as I thought." He shrugged and with a giant knife in hand, kept cutting up the vegetables. The cooking continued and they ate with gusto after it was finished. Finally, following a long and pleasant talk, they were all going about their separate ways for the evening, some rebuilding the house, some reading, some making some calls. Abby found herself outside on the veranda and she found Sam there with her, sitting right beside her.

"I can't believe this actually turned out okay. I normally never have that much luck.", Sam confessed after a few moments of silence and them staring out at the many car wrecks, watching as the sky turned redder with the minute. An advantage of apocalyptic storm clouds: They painted the sky in impossible colors ever since that date. It was dimming down of course but it was still beautiful.

"Hey, we survived the Apocalypse! What the hell could go wrong now?" Abby was smiling at Sam from the side, bumping her shoulder with his.

"God, Abby. You're doing it again! Don't jinx us like last time!" Sam grinned but bumped her shoulder with his fist, shoving her slightly away from himself. Abby faked to be offended and hurt, holding her shoulder.

"What? I didn't do anything back, after all we survived so what did I jinx, huh, Winchester?" she leaned into him with a teasing grin, awaiting him to throw something back at her just as wildly. But Sam suddenly quieted, then his face split into a warm smile.

"We'll have to see about that…" he mumbled before suddenly leaning forward and capturing his lips with hers. One of his hands slipped into her hair and after she overcame the initial shock, Abby smiled and returned the kiss just as warmly, lifting her own hand to his strong jawline. But before this could get any deeper or more intense, a slow clapping sound from the door interrupted them. They both looked up, and at the voice, their gazes turned to similar tones of ice cold stare.

"Well well. Look who finally got the guts to kiss the girl. Well done, Sammy."

"It's Sam." The younger Winchester grunted out between his teeth. But Abby saw that he was trying to hold back a smile just as strongly.

"Oh whatever, bitch."

"Jerk."

Abby laughed drily, not believing her ears.

"And I just think you're both idiots."

So this is it :) I hope that ending was sappy enough, i thought Abby was a funny little addition to those remarks. You always guessed her and Sammy would be end game and Dean/Lisa was planned from the start so it's not a big surprise either. I wanted this to be the 5th season, I would've watched the hell outta that. What do you think? Does this fit? I think the final battle could've been more epic and I think Dean would have been a great vessel to Michael and would have actually helped him understand some things. And there totally was a way around Sam giving in to Lucifer and I think this is my way of solving all those problems and I hope you liked how I did it. Please tell me if you do?

PLEASE REVIEW :3 (even if just a little bit)
