KARIYA MATOU

"There's no way one of these things will be able to catch up to Erigor before he makes it to Clover," Gray huffed, rounding the abandoned magic mobile that stood in the streets as Lucy finished applying bandages to the wounded Eisenwald mage.

Shortly after everyone had gotten over the shock of Berser- er, Saber shattering the barrier, we had all clambered down from the station, still uncertain of what steps to take in order to bring down Erigor and save the Guildmasters. With the train out of commission, there wasn't anything fast enough to catch up to the Reaper before the damage was done.

"I have an idea," Natsu piped up, his breaths still laboured. When he finally had every ones' attention, he started, "Maybe if I had Happy carry me, I could use my fire as a jet to make us go faster."

"Aye!" Happy hopped up onto his shoulder, spreading his wings, "We've done it before! Nappy and I managed to reach mach speed with it-!"

"No," Erza interrupted him, her voice stern, "You're already severely injured, Natsu, and you've used up too much of your magic. If you hadn't spent so much time trying to break the barrier on your own, I might have considered it, but as you are now, I will not allow you to attempt such a potentially dangerous maneuver. If you or Happy run out of magic over that canyon, it'll be the death of both of you."

Natsu opened his mouth to argue, then glanced at me, his expression as well as Happy's turning from argumentative to something akin to pleading, as though silently asking for my vote.

I shook my head, "Sorry, Natsu, but I have to agree with Erza on this one. It's too risky."

"Besides," Lucy began, "what are you going to do when you reach Erigor? You're drained as it is. If you waste anymore of your magic, you won't stand a chance against him."

In desperation, he turned to Gray, then Saber, the former merely shaking his head, the latter having lost interest in the conversation, inspecting the magic mobile.

"Looks like you've been outvoted, guys," Lucy crossed her arms.

A moment of silence passed as the two began to mope. Then the pink-haired boy perked up once more.

"Wait!" the fire mage shouted, grinning once more, "What if we were to start a fire!? Then I could eat it!"

I blinked, "Eat it?"

"That's right," Erza slowly began to smile, then turned to look at me, "Natsu is a Fire Dragon Slayer, Kariya. That means he's immune to fire, and can even eat it to restore his magic."

"But what about his wounds?" Gray countered, "Fire might restore his magic, but it won't help heal his injuries."

"Gray has a point," Lucy spoke, "It won't help anyone if Natsu's still all beaten up by the time he reaches Erigor. No matter how stubborn he is, there's only so much damage a person can take before breaking down."

Erza's expression returned to neutral as the now proclaimed Dragon Slayer's face fell, "So we're straight back to square one..."

"If I might interrupt," the Black Knight's voice sent shivers down my spine. When everyone turned to face him, he put a hand on the magic mobile, the red slit burning in the light, "I may have a solution to this dilemma... if this... vehicle... can be used as a weapon."

Gray raised an eyebrow, "Why does that matter?"

I swallowed as flashbacks from the Grail War began to overtake me, the image of the Black Knight on the F-15 fighter jet burned into my mind's eye, "Are you gonna do what I think you're gonna do?"

"My Noble Phantasm, Master," the Servant intoned, "Knight of Honour."

I visibly blanched, "That's what I was afraid of."

"What is it, Kariya?"

I turned to the armoured magus, forcing myself to speak, "Saber has a certain... magic... if you will known as Knight of Honour. It allows him to flawlessly wield anything he can get his hands on that can be considered a weapon as though it's been a favoured weapon of his that he's trained with for years," I swallowed, "It also increases the durability and overall strength of what he's gripping exponentially. Swords, clubs, railroad spikes... as long as he can conceptualize it as a weapon, he can use it with unrivaled ease."

The red head merely nodded, then turned back to the Knight, "I suppose you could use it as a makeshift battering ram, if you were to drive it fast enough. I can't promise how effective that would be, but..."

Saber nodded, then turned to the vehicle, "That's all I needed to hear."

Without another word, he hopped up into the driver's seat. But rather than attaching himself to the engine or grabbing the joystick, he instead gripped the armrests with enough force to crack them, four whip-like tendrils lashing out from his back, the blackened tips digging deep into the wood and steel of the magical machine. Immediately after, I felt my legs nearly buckle, my heart and lungs convulsing violently, the worms wriggling about like maggots as they eagerly preformed their task...

Within seconds, the entire magic mobile had been cloaked in black, crimson, vein-like marks extending out from where his hands and the tendrils had embedded themselves in the vehicle.

With that, Saber glanced at us once more, then jerked his head slightly as the door on the side automatically opened, "Get in."

Erza did so without a second thought, dragging Natsu on board along with her. A moment later, she was followed by Happy, Gray (who was carrying the still unconscious Kage), and a seemingly reluctant Lucy.

I swallowed, then called to them, "I'll be on in a minute."

I hobbled up to where Saber sat at the head of the vehicle, and he seemed to stare at me, head tilting quizzically, "Is something wrong, Master?"

I paused, biting at my lip slightly, then spoke, "Why didn't you correct me right off the bat when I called you Berserker?"

A heavy silence fell between me and my Servant with that question.

After a moment, he sighed, "Now is not the time to be asking such questions, Master," a slight movement from him brought the magic mobile's engine to life, causing the vehicle to shudder, "For now, be satisfied with this. I remember more than you realize."

I felt myself stiffen, then nodded stiffly, turning about and hobbling towards the still open door, the worms burrowing as far as they could into my body, as though they knew exactly what was going to happen. As soon as I had taken my seat and the door had shut, the engine roared, and the vehicle tore down the street back towards the station.

I panicked, Saber's Noble Phantasm forgotten, convinced we were going to crash and burn before the wheels hit the stairs.

The next thing I knew, the vehicle was soaring through the air, the ground shooting far down below before abruptly rushing back up to meet us-

-only for the Servant in the driver's seat to stick the landing on the elevated tracks leading out of the station.

"Miss Erza," the Knight's voice echoed in our ears as the vehicle started down the tracks at a far more reasonable pace, "This is the correct way to... Clover, correct?"

Erza sat back up unsteadily, patting a severely sickened Natsu on the back as everyone reorientated themselves. She glanced out the window, then cleared her throat, "Yes. This is the right way... Saber."

"Very well then," I could hear the engine abruptly change gears, a cold pit of dread suddenly forming in my stomach, "Let us make haste."

With even greater speed than before, the vehicle hurled itself down the tracks, leaving the town within seconds and moving out onto a bridge standing miles above the mists of what seemed to be a gorge that led to the depths of hell. And even that became a mere blur as the magic mobile continued to pick up speed, far more speed than what should have been possible for it...

And all the while, we were being tossed about like rag dolls in the cockpit - a concoction of shouts, yelps, dry heaving and pain.

To be perfectly honest though, I wasn't complaining.

Mainly because it wasn't Erza driving, and the worms seemed to be relatively silent.

We had only been going about ten minutes before Saber's voice echoed once more, the vehicle slowing significantly and allowing me to sit up properly, "I see something up ahead. A half-nude male with a large scythe, flying up ahead."

"That's Erigor," Gray managed, a large bruise starting to sprout on his cheek where he'd crashed into the doorknob.

"Has he noticed us yet?" Lucy called out, rubbing at a large bruise that was swelling up on her arm.

"I don't believe he has. He seems to be putting the majority of his energy into moving forwards. The rest of his effort seems to be going into haphazard treatment of wounds he has sustained."

Everyone aside from Natsu and Kage turned to look at me for a long moment before the weapon mage cleared her throat, "Is there any way for us to reach him from here?"

"Not unless one of you has some form of long ranged attack that can strike him from this distance. If I go any faster than this, we risk alerting him to our presence," the Knight intoned.

There was a pause before anyone spoke again.

"I got an idea," Gray huffed, jerking open the window and sticking his upper torso out. His voice became muffled beneath the wind as he shouted something to the Servant, putting a foot up on the windowsill. Saber merely gave a wordless grunt in response, and we began to pick up speed once more.

Perplexed, I opened my own window and stuck my head outside, shouting, "What are you doing, Gray!?"

He gave me no answer, instead bringing his hands to the front, a fist over his open palm - the same position he always used to cast his magic. The air suddenly chilled, and I felt my eye twitch as Gray's voice rang in my ears - something that shouldn't have been possible, given how the wind was rushing by us.

"Ice Make Ramp!"

True to his word, a massive slope of flowing ice shot up from the ground about thirty feet in front of us, easily more than eight feet tall and going on an an upwards slope that scared a lot more than hell out of me.

An instant later we were hurtling through the air once more. I felt my heart leap into my throat, unable to bring myself to look out the window, my heartbeats drowning out Erza's angered shouts, Happy's and Lucy's screams. As we neared the flying mage, Erigor turned to look back at us, his eyes widening and his mouth falling open with clear shock, even as Gray's voice rang through the air again.

"Ice Make Lance!"

Thin pillars of jagged ice arced from Gray's hand, moving faster than I could follow before striking the Reaper multiple times. The wind mage's eyes widened even further, this time in pain, and his spell began to falter as the icy spears shattered.

Within seconds, we were hurtling towards the earth again. Unable to pull myself back in, I curled myself up, bracing myself for impact as best as I could, the others doing the same-

"Ice Make Ramp!"

Only for the magic mobile to make a relatively smooth landing upon a ramp similar to the one before, cruising for a long few seconds before I noticed the falling Erigor. He hit the rails hard mere seconds before the magic mobile smashed into him full force, sending him skidding across the tracks before coming to a stop mere seconds later.

Gray hopped out the window completely as the door popped open, and we all clambered out as fast as we could after setting Kage on his side.

The magic mobile returned to normal as Saber detached from the vehicle and stepped down to the tracks alongside Gray, and soon we were all facing down the wounded Erigor.

The man was on his side, his expression one of agony as his body was wracked with pain; on top of the hastily bandaged wounds the worms had inflicted upon him earlier, he now had severe road burn on one side of his body, and large, jagged shards of bloodstained ice sticking out of his legs, shoulder, and hand. His scythe had impaled the earth not six feet behind him, and in his good hand, he clutched Lullaby to his chest.

But what got my attention was the large, grid shaped wound that had been gouged into his side, shattering an arm, a part of his pelvis, and most likely rupturing some internal organs.

Honestly, the fact that the Reaper was still alive, let alone conscious, was some form of sick miracle in and of itself.

After a moment, Erigor raised his head to glare at us, bleeding severely from his temple, "You... stupid... flies..." he hissed, struggling to all fours, Lullaby still clutched to his chest, "You... just... don't... give... up..."

He hacked, blood spraying from between his lips and nearly forcing him back to the ground.

"You've lost, Erigor," Erza stated coldly, stepping to the front, "Now give us Lullaby, and we won't harm you any farther. If you continue to resist, we won't be held responsible for what happens to you."

He only spat in response, once more struggling to get to his feet, this time managing to get onto one knee.

"I guess... the Guildmasters... are just... going... to have... to wait," he muttered between laboured breaths, "I'll have... to settle... for you... as an... audience..."

With speed that completely ignored the clear pain he was in, his head shot upwards as he brought the Lullaby flute to his mouth, filling his lungs with air-

-only for Saber to grip onto the end of the magic tool, though he made no further move beyond that.

Unperturbed, Erigor blew into the flute with every ounce of spite and anger he could muster...

But no sound was emitted.

Perplexed, the assassin tried once more.

And still, the death song refused to play - drowned beneath the Magic Resistance of the Saber Class.

Again and again, the Reaper attempted to play the flute, his panic growing more and more apparent with each attempt until finally, Saber raised his foot and kicked Erigor in the chest, breaking his grip on the flute and sending him back about ten feet, an audible snap confirming the broken ribs.

As Erigor righted himself, snarling, I shook my head.

My Servant had been actively restraining the power in his kick when he struck the assassin. At this rate, Erigor was going to get himself killed.

"Saber," I called, keeping my gaze on Erigor, "Don't kill him. As much as I'd like to see him die, he needs to answer for what he's done."

"As you command, my Master," the Knight spoke, releasing his grip on Lullaby, letting the dark tool fall to the ground.

Erigor all but shrieked in response, his magic bursting behind him and propelling him forwards, gripping his scythe as he shot at Saber. Vengeance gleamed in his eyes as he swung the blade in an arc, intending to cut the Servant in half.

Once again, he found his attempt at murder denied as Saber raised his arm, catching the blade of the scythe and stopping it in its tracks. For a moment, Erigor struggled; whether to reclaim his blade or finish his swing, I wasn't entirely sure, but in the end, it didn't really matter. Saber merely stepped forwards, driving his fist into Erigor's injured arm and sending the mage back once more, this time without his weapon.

Before Erigor could move to stand - before Erigor had even landed - the Black Knight was upon him, the scythe in his grasp now black and lined with crimson veins from the Knight of Honour. In the following moment, Saber had the blade of the scythe at the assassin's throat, the tip just piercing the skin.

"Yield," he commanded, his voice emotionless, "This is not a battle you can win."

Though I couldn't see Erigor's expression, I could feel the tension in the air around the two.

Abruptly, Erza stepped forwards, a chain appearing from nowhere in her grasp.

Sensing her intent, Saber politely stepped out of her way, though he kept the scythe at Erigor's neck.

"On your knees," Erza intoned.

The assassin's jaw tightened briefly before he reluctantly made to obey her, pushing himself off his back and onto all fours.

Erza walked around to his back, quickly binding his arms to his sides with multiple loops of chain before locking it in place behind his back with a padlock, "Those chains are enchanted to keep you from using any magic. Don't bother getting any ideas."

Erigor spat again, clearly having no more use for words.

Gray stepped forwards and picked the flute up, shuddering as he did so, "This thing's just loaded with dark magic," he muttered, "It reminds me way too much of Deliora..."

An awkward silence fell across the canyon, the only sound being the gentle sway of the breeze.

"So..." I started, eager to break the tension, "What do we do now?"

"For now, we return to the guild," Erza spoke, her voice slightly weary, "After we turn him," she gestured at the bound Erigor, "and the rest of Eisenwald in and have Lullaby properly disposed of, I think we'll all have had enough excitement for one day."

"Agreed," Lucy huffed.

"No objections here," Gray spoke, though he never removed his gaze from Lullaby.

"I'm about ready to head home too," Natsu folded his hands behind his head, "How about you, Happy?"

"Aye!" aforementioned blue cat nodded enthusiastically.

"Then it's settled," I smiled, putting almost all my weight on my crutch, "Let's head back to the guild-"

A sudden blast knocked me clear off my feet, and I found myself watching my crutch as it began the long fall into the canyon below. For a moment, I merely lay there before being dragged back onto the tracks by Lucy, the clouds of dust having not yet dissipated.

Pushing myself up into a sitting position, I swallowed the blood that had welled up in my mouth before shouting, "Is everyone alright!?"

"I'm okay!"

"Aye!"

"Miss Erza and the assassin are both unharmed, Master."

Taking note of each voice, I called out for the only person who had not responded, "Gray?"

No answer.

"Gray!?" I could feel more blood begin to pool in my mouth as I raised my voice, my gaze searching along the tracks as the dust slowly began to fade away.

This time, I received a severe curse in response, and my eyes locked on a silhouette in the dust not too far away from me.

I sighed in relief, thankful he had not been thrown over the edge, "You alright, Gray?"

"He took it!" he kicked at the tracks, which were slowly being coated in a thin coat of ice, "I knew we shouldn't have left him alone in the magic mobile! How could I be so stupid!?"

"Gray, calm down," Lucy spoke, her tone stern, but concerned, "What happened?"

He turned his icy glare upon the blonde celestial wizard, then hissed, "Kage. He took the magic mobile and ambushed us. He..." the ice mage brought a hand to his forehead, "He took Lullaby."

Chills ran up and down my spine at that declaration.

"Forgive me, Master," I turned my head to look at Saber, who was now kneeling, the scythe still in his grasp, "I was careless. It had not occurred to me that the injured mage was conscious or capable of movement."

I shook my head, "No, Saber. There wasn't any way any of us could have predicted that. The wounds he had were borderline fatal," slowly, I managed to get to my feet, far more unsteady than I was now that I had no crutch to lean on, grunting in pain and gripping at my arm - the posture that had become so typical of me during the Grail War, "Can you catch up with him?"

The Servant shook his head, almost solemn, "Perhaps if I had reacted faster. I can move quickly, but given the speed at which he was moving, I doubt I would be able to reach him in a timely manner."

My ear twitched as a low chuckle hovered in the air.

It slowly increased in volume before Erigor burst out into laughter, throwing his head back, heedless of the pain.

"I should!... Have given!... Kageyama!... More credit!" he wheezed, "I never!... Would have thought!... He was!... Capable!... Of something!... Like this!"

"Shut. Up," Natsu's voice was low as his fists encased themselves in flame.

The assassin only grinned, "You fairies!... Are too!... Late!... By the time!... You reach!... Kageyama!... Your Guildmasters!... Will be-!"

Natsu's strike hit at the exact same time as Gray's and Erza's, flattening his nose, probably rupturing his eardrum, and most likely causing permanent damage to his optical lobe. Needless to say, it did the trick, knocking the wind mage unconscious, blood trickling from his lip and what was left of his nostrils, adding to his already substantial blood loss.

I winced, "Nice shot."

"Change of plans," Erza spoke, the fatigue in her voice gone, "We're going after Kageyama. Let's move!"

Sorry about this guys. I was planning on making it longer, but when I went to save, fanfiction f*cking logged me out and I lost a bunch of work on this. So the actual fight with Lullaby is going to have to wait a bit. Hopefully you enjoyed the bit I got to you.
