This is the last official chapter to this story. I'm open to an epilogue at some point, but you guys have to tell me what you've be interested in seeing in Caroline and Klaus' future. I've loved writing this story, and I'm so glad you guys have liked it. Let me know what you think of the ending. Thanks!

"Good morning, love," Klaus greeted Caroline early on the Friday before their wedding.

Caroline stretched out in their bed and smiled up at him. "Hi. How long have you been awake?"

"Long enough," he answered cryptically. "If you're willing, I'd like very much for you to join me downstairs."

"Okay," she murmured, throwing back the blankets. She grabbed her silk robe to cover her matching nightgown. "What's going on?"

"It's a surprise," he replied, taking her hand to lead her down to the dining room.

Once Caroline was inside the room, she gasped softly. The table was covered in various breakfast foods—all of her favorites—as well as multiple bouquets of peonies in several shades of pink, which were their wedding flowers.

"Nik, this is amazing," she breathed. "You did this for me?"

"Of course," he confirmed, pulling out her usual chair for her. "You've been working so hard to get everything ready for tomorrow, and I haven't, so for the next two days, you get to relax and let me take care of you."

"Relax?" she scoffed, as she sat down. "Our wedding is in 34 hours, Nik. There is no relaxing until we're on our way to Bali on Sunday morning. But," she went on, reaching for his hand, "I love you so much for this."

He ran his hand through her blonde curls as he sat down beside her. "It's the least I can do. I've also arranged for you to meet the other ladies at the spa after this for massages, manicures, and pedicures."

Tears filled her eyes. "You did?"

Klaus nodded. "I did. Perhaps you relaxing for the next two days is unreasonable, but you can for a few hours this afternoon."

"I can probably manage that," she agreed, filling her plate. "This smells so good."

"I'm glad you're pleased," he told her.

Caroline and Klaus usually grabbed breakfast on their way out the door in the mornings, but they sat together for an hour and a half that day, enjoying the peace and each other's company.

"What time am I meeting everyone at the spa?" she asked as the clock neared ten.

"Twelve-thirty," he reported. "I want the next two days to be enjoyable for you, sweetheart. You deserve it."

Before Caroline could respond, descending footsteps could be heard on the staircase that led into the kitchen, and Stefan and Rebekah appeared.

"We tried to stay up there until eleven, but we're hungry," Rebekah explained. "And it's our house, so we're eating."

Caroline laughed. "It's okay. We have plenty of extra food here. Have some."

Stefan filled a plate and sat down. "It's going to be a busy two days."

"We have the spa today, and the dress rehearsal tonight," Rebekah ticked off on her fingers. "Hair and makeup is at nine tomorrow morning, photos start at one, your first reveal to each other is scheduled for three, the ceremony is at six-thirty, cocktails start at seven-fifteen, and the reception is at eight."

"And then we're off for two weeks in Bali," Caroline sighed happily. "That's what I'm most looking forward to, aside from actually being married. The last time we took an actual vacation together, we went to Chicago for a long weekend after getting engaged. That was six years ago almost."

"Perhaps we should take three weeks then," Klaus grinned.

At twenty-five after twelve, Caroline and Rebekah made their way into the spa and found Katherine, Elena, and Bonnie waiting for them. While Elena and Bonnie had been Caroline's friends more in high school, it still felt right to have them with her to celebrate her wedding.

"This is so exciting," Bonnie gushed as they were led to a private room for their treatments. "Klaus is really going all out."

Elena, who'd always hated Klaus, made a face. "He should. After everything that's happened, it's the least he can do."

Katherine rolled her eyes at her twin sister. "Oh, God, if you're going to complain all day, go home. You and Caroline are barely friends anymore, and she only invited you to be nice."

"Kat," Caroline warned. "Don't. I would, however," she went on, looking at Elena, "like it if you'd not talk poorly of Nik for the next 36 hours. I stopped talking poorly of Damon long before the accident."

"I'm sorry," Elena frowned. "You're right. I'm being unfairly critical."

"Yeah, your husband is no picnic," Katherine murmured.

"Stop it," Caroline demanded. "No more fighting about Nik or Damon. I want this to be a fun day."

Klaus was just setting up to paint when there was a knock at the front door of the house. Stefan had gone with Elijah to pick up suits from the tailor and God knew where Kol was, so Klaus sighed and made his way downstairs to answer it.

"Ah, the lesser of the Salvatore brothers," he grimaced upon finding Damon on the porch. "What do you want?"

"Aren't you a little testy for a guy getting married tomorrow?" Damon smirked, making his way inside. "Where's Stefan?"

"Out," Klaus answered coolly. "I'll let him know you stopped by."

"I'll wait," Damon declared. "We have to meet with our father's estate lawyers this afternoon."

"Fine," Klaus said. "You know where the living room is." He turned and headed back towards the stairs.

Damon followed. "What, don't you want to hear my advice on marriage?"

"No," Klaus answered. "You're the last person I'd ever ask for advice from. In case you've not noticed, we aren't exactly friends."

"No!" Damon gasped sarcastically. "Look, I obviously hate you, and the feeling is clearly mutual, but I'll be the first to tell you, marriage isn't easy. I love my wife, but there are plenty of days where I'd like to walk away and never look back."

"I wouldn't blame you," Klaus grumbled. "You're married to Elena Gilbert."

Damon frowned. "What I'm saying is, you can't assume it's always going to be a fairytale."

Klaus chuckled. "Caroline spent four years in a coma from an accident where I was driving, I lived in New Orleans, and I was engaged to another woman. I think it's safe to say I don't expect a constant fairytale."

"Fair enough," Damon shrugged, backing away to head downstairs. "You should also know you're definitely not good enough for her."

Once Damon was safely downstairs, Klaus threw a paintbrush at the back of his head.

"Dick!" Damon called up to him.

Klaus only laughed quietly before disappearing into his studio.

"I seriously feel amazing right now," Caroline sighed as she and Rebekah walked up to the house after their day at the spa. "Like, way more relaxed than I ever thought I'd be the day before my wedding."

"It was really nice of Nik to do this," Rebekah agreed.

Caroline beamed. "It was."

Rebekah pushed open the door and they immediately heard shouting coming from the kitchen. The two girls dropped their bags and hurried through the house and found Klaus and Damon standing on either side of the island, both seething, while Elijah and Stefan stood beside their respective brothers.

"What the bloody hell is going on here?" Rebekah demanded.

"They're fighting to assert their dominance," Stefan muttered.

"Oh, God," Caroline grumbled, pushing through everyone to get to Klaus. She grabbed his hand and dragged him away and upstairs to his bedroom. "What is the matter with you?"

"Damon Salvatore is a thorn in my side, and he needed to be brought down a peg or two," Klaus replied, knowing he sounded ridiculous.

"We're getting married tomorrow," she reminded him. "Don't you think there are more important things to worry about than proving you're better than Damon?"

"So you agree?" he perked up. "I'm better than him?"

Caroline scoffed in exasperation. "Of course that's what you'd pick up on. Yes, Nik, I think you're better than him. He's a scumbag. But to be truly better, you wouldn't lower yourself to his level."

"You're right," he nodded, pulling her into his arms. "I'm sorry, sweetheart. How was the spa?"

"So nice," she told him with a kiss to his cheek. "Thank you."

"You're welcome," he smiled, pleased to have made her so happy. "What time is the rehearsal?"

"Starts at six," she recited. "It's going on four now, so I'm going to shower and start getting ready. You should call your mother and check in with her about the flowers. The florist is supposed to be here early in the morning, and we need Esther here to supervise."

"You know, I'm glad we're being married here," Klaus admitted as he followed her to the en suite bathroom. "It's just like how we planned all those years ago."

"Mm," Caroline nodded, starting up the shower. "I like that bit, too. It's also the nicest venue in town for a black-tie event, no matter what Carol Lockwood thinks of the mayor's mansion." She looked at him over her shoulder. "Are you going to shower now with me?"

"I'd be crazy to turn down that offer," he smirked, unbuckling his belt.

Moments later, as they stood under the spray of the water, Klaus ran his fingers gently over the scar on her chest from the accident.

"Don't," she whispered. "I hate that thing."

"You shouldn't," he denied, pressing his lips to her forehead. "It proves your strength, Caroline. You survived something most people couldn't dream to. You're the strongest person I've ever known, and I'm so incredibly lucky you've chosen to spend your life with me."

She wrapped her arms around his waist. "I'm lucky to have you, too. I love you, Nik."

At precisely six-fifteen, the couple made their way down to the foyer of the mansion and found Esther and Rebekah dictating where everything needed to be. The ceremony would take place in the foyer; chairs had already been set up facing the staircase, where Caroline and Klaus would be married at the bottom.

"It looks so beautiful," Caroline breathed. "Esther, I really cannot thank you and Diane enough for everything you've done to get this ready in such a short time."

Diane appeared from the kitchen then, carrying her clipboard. "This is what I'm good at, Caroline. It isn't easy keeping Klaus in line, but I manage. I've just used those skills here."

Caroline hugged her. "We couldn't have done this without you."

"I love you guys," Diane replied. "I'm happy to do it. Plus, it got me out of the office for two months. Now," she continued, speaking to everyone assembled, "we need to get started. Dinner is at seven-thirty, so we have to move."

The rehearsal was short and sweet. Both Caroline and Klaus had written their own vows, which they were saving for the actual wedding, so they simply practiced the pacing and placement. Klaus, Elijah, and Kol were going to walk in from the kitchen, while Caroline, Rebekah, and Katherine would descend the staircase. Back when they'd been planning their first wedding, Caroline had intended to include Bonnie and Elena in her wedding party, but now, it was a smaller affair, and since waking up, she'd become much closer to Katherine than either of them.

"It smells so good in here," Liz spoke up once the group had made their way into the dining room. "Is that Italian?"

"It is," Klaus confirmed. "We had Natalia's cater; it's Caroline's favorite."

After everyone had finished eating, Elijah lightly tapped his glass as Esther stood up to speak.

"When my family first moved to Mystic Falls, Caroline Forbes was the first person to knock on our door to welcome us," she began fondly. "Naturally, she and Rebekah were fast friends, both very involved in school and the community. Caroline was, and remains, one of the most cheerful and optimistic people I've ever known, despite what she's endured in the last half decade. And then she met Niklaus." She smirked across the table at her middle son. "My son is not quite as pleasant or cheerful, but he's passionate and good. Caroline breezed into his life at a trying time, and she helped him get his life on the path he desired. When the accident happened all those years ago, they were planning a wedding rather different than this one, but I believe this is the wedding they want. Now that they've made it through something so trying—with its own ups and downs—I believe Niklaus and Caroline are at the best place in their lives to be married. I couldn't ask for a better woman for my son to marry, and I so look forward to what the future holds for them." She raised her champagne glass. "To Niklaus and Caroline."

"Klaus and Caroline," everyone murmured.

"I don't look forward to separating for the night," Klaus admitted as the evening was winding down. "Especially since I'm stuck at Kol's."

"Oh, stop it," Caroline chuckled. "You love your brother, and he's secretly thrilled to have you guys stay with him. I helped him clean this week in preparation. He's changing."

"Only to impress Bonnie," Klaus interrupted knowingly.

"For whatever reason, I support him, and you should, too," she advised.

"If you insist," he teased. "What time are you heading to the boarding house?"

With the wedding taking place at the mansion, crews would be working through the night to prepare, so Elena had offered to host the women at the Salvatore boarding house where she lived with Damon. Caroline had grown up there with Stefan, so she'd happily accepted, despite Damon being there, as well.

"In about fifteen minutes," she answered. "The girls have some gifts for me, and I have things for them. I want to get to bed at a decent time; tomorrow is a pretty important day, if you didn't know."

"I've heard that," he joked, kissing her softly. "I rather look forward to it."

"Klaus, let's go!" Kol called over to him. "Tell your much better half goodnight and you'll see her tomorrow."

Caroline laughed. "See, how can you not love him?"

"It's easy," Klaus mumbled. "I will see you tomorrow, love."

"I'll be the one in white," she confirmed, kissing his cheek. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight," he smiled, following his younger brother out the front door.

"All right, ladies, get yours things," Diane advised. "The late night crew is ready to finish up."

Caroline hurried up to Klaus' room to get her bags, but she stopped upon entering at the small, gift-wrapped box on the bed. She walked over and read the "To My Darling Caroline" on the tag, written in Klaus' neat handwriting. Carefully, she untied the bow and lifted the lid, gasping at what she found inside. With a bit of trepidation, she reached in and lifted out the Stella McCartney polka dot box clutch she'd coveted at Nordstrom earlier in the month.

"He was really proud of himself for that," Katherine spoke up from behind Caroline.

"He should be," Caroline nodded. "It's beautiful, and I love it. I just hope he likes the cufflinks I got him."

"He will." Katherine walked into the room to grab Caroline's bags. "It's all very nice, but we have to go. I'll deny this if you ever talk, but I'm a little scared of Diane."

"As you should be," Caroline smirked, turning out the light as she followed Katherine back downstairs.

"Caroline, your hair and makeup artist is going to arrive at the boarding house at nine sharp," Diane explained. "I'll be there by eight to make sure everything is set up and ready. Esther will stay here to work with the florist, and then she'll meet us for photos at one."

"How are you doing your hair?" Bonnie wanted to know as the girls made their way outside to pack into cars.

"Um, I'm going to wear it up," Caroline declared. "My dress has a really intricate illusion neckline, so wearing my hair down would cover that. Kira, my hairdresser, and I have tried out a couple of things, but it'll be last-minute when she gets there tomorrow."

At the Salvatore house, Elena had set the living room up for a sleepover, complete with various mattresses and pillows scattered around.

"Evening, ladies," Damon greeted them upon arrival.

"Go away," Katherine told her brother-in-law.

"He is," Elena assured them. "Damon knows he's to stay upstairs all night and then have breakfast ready for us in the morning."

Damon rolled his eyes. "A servant in my own house."

"I'm fairly certain Giuseppe Salvatore left this house to Stefan, and Stefan gave it to you when he moved in with Rebekah," Katherine spoke up.

"Semantics," Damon shrugged. "It's mine now, but for tonight, I'm loaning it to the Caroline Crew."

"How nice," Caroline muttered. "Goodnight, Damon."

He raised his glass of bourbon in mock salute before ascending the staircase and disappearing from sight.

"Don't," Elena warned her sister. "Don't say anything."

Katherine just smirked and dropped her bags on the mattress closest to the liquor cart. "If you insist."

Caroline sat down on the mattress closest to Katherine and yawned. "Thanks for letting us stay here, Elena. My mom's house just isn't big enough for all of us."

"I'm happy to," Elena assured her. "It'll be like middle school all over again, only now Rebekah gets to take part."

"And Mom isn't here to force me to play along," Katherine added. She reached into her Louis Vuitton duffel bag and pulled out a gift bag. "Here you go, princess."

Caroline reached in and pulled out a lacy black negligée and matching panties. "Thanks, Kat."

"It's La Perla, so wear it well," Katherine advised. "Try to keep Klaus from tearing it apart the first time you wear it."

"Me next," Bonnie called, holding up her own gift. "This is to wear tomorrow night."

"Oh, wow," Caroline breathed, pulling out the satin and lace slip. "This is beautiful. Thank you, Bon."

Bonnie grinned. "You're welcome."

Elena handed over a wrapped box. "Here's mine."

Caroline held up a matching bra and panty set, complete with garters, all in a deep blue. "This is Nik's favorite color on me, so I'm sure he'll appreciate it."

Rebekah sat down beside her best friend. "I strayed from the traditional lingerie for me gift." She cleared her throat. "I'm not crafty, by any means. If it can be bought, why make it yourself? But, when you and Nik were set to be married more than four years ago, I made this, with some help. It took me a long time, and I'm not really sure why I kept it, but I suppose that deep down, even after he'd left for New Orleans and met Camille, I hoped you two would someday find your way back to each other. Once the wedding was back on, I had to go back and change some things, but I still want you to have it." She picked up the large box she'd carried in and set it in front of Caroline. "Happy wedding."

Caroline, who already had tears in her eyes, lifted the flaps of the box to reveal what appeared to be a quilt. With Rebekah's help, she lifted it out and gasped at what it was.

"Damn, Rebekah," Katherine muttered.

The quilt was made up of black and white photos of Klaus and Caroline throughout their entire relationship. Some were posed, some were candids, and there were even a few selfies of the two of them.

"Bekah," Caroline whispered, tears now running down her face. "This is so amazing."

"It was originally five feet by six, but I added more, so now it's five feet by seven. I know you like large blankets, so I didn't think you'd mind," Rebekah explained.

Caroline hugged her tightly. "I love it, and I love you. Thank you so much."

"You're family," Rebekah replied. "Always and forever."

After a couple drinks and snacks, the girls all settled in for bed, but Caroline couldn't sleep. All she could think about was one of the photos on the quilt (which she was sleeping with). It had been taken at their first apartment, the one-bedroom in Richmond, on their first night there together. Caroline had snapped the photo of the two of them lying on the couch, and while she looked euphoric in the picture, Caroline remembered being terrified of living with a boy.

"What's wrong, love?" Klaus asked as he and Caroline readied themselves for bed. "You've been quiet since dinner."

"Nothing," she said a bit too quickly, unhooking her bra under her t-shirt.

Klaus removed his shirt and crawled across their queen-size bed to kneel in front of her. "Don't lie to me, Caroline. What's going on?"

She sighed and sat down beside him. "I'm scared."

"Scared?" he mused. "Scared of what?"

"I've only ever lived with my parents," she explained. "What if you decide you hate living with me?"

"Oh, sweetheart," he sighed. "That isn't going to happen. I'm very much looking forward to living with you and building a life here together."

"You promise?" she whispered.

Klaus settled back against the headboard and pulled her with him. "I swear it. In case you've not noticed in our last year together, you're my very favorite person, Caroline Forbes, and I love you very much."

She curled into him. "I love you, too. I can't believe we live together and this is our place."

"Thank you for living with me," he said. "You know, I've never lived with a girl either. I mean, Rebekah, but she doesn't count."

"So we're doing something new together," she realized. "I like that."

"Every first from here on out will be together," he assured her. "That's how I want it to be."

"Me, too," Caroline breathed. "You know, we probably have your mother to thank for all this."

Klaus groaned. "You're thinking about my mother right now?"

She pressed a kiss to his jaw. "Just that if she hadn't made you come home for the Labor Day festival, you probably would've forgotten me."

"Hmm, I don't know," Klaus denied, sliding his hand up her back. "We met in June and three months later, you were still on my mind. I'd have found a reason to come home sooner or later."

"You would?" she grinned against his chest.

"Mm-hmm," he confirmed. "I knew you were special, even if I also wanted to throw you into the pool."

"Gee, thanks," Caroline scoffed. "I wasn't the weirdo lounging on a lawn chair while wearing all black in like, 85 degree weather."

"No, you wore that yellow dress I like," he recalled. "That could be the reason I like it so much. You were barefooted, and you smelled like lavender and lemons."

Caroline felt tears welling up. "You remember all of that?"

"Of course I do," Klaus told her. "I didn't know it quite at the time, but that was the moment I met the love of my life."

"That's really cheesy, but also nice," she teased, swiping at the stray tears that had fallen.

"We're going to make this our home, Caroline," Klaus went on. "And after I finish law school and have a steady job, we're going to get a house with a yard and an island in the kitchen; I know you like my mom's."

She yawned. "I'd like that. Goodnight, Nik."

"Goodnight, love," he whispered into her hair.

"Wake up, sunshine," Damon said as he stood over Caroline's mattress early Saturday morning. "Breakfast is ready and that Diane woman is already terrorizing me."

"That's because she's smart," Caroline grumbled from under her pillow. "Get away from me."

"Is that any way to talk to your host?" he smirked. He kicked the mattress. "Get up, princess."

She sat up and shoved him away. "I promised Elena I would be cordial with you, but don't tempt me, douche."

"Oh, Care, you look so beautiful," Liz breathed as Caroline stood in her wedding dress later that morning.

Caroline checked out her reflection and smiled. Kira had done Caroline's hair in a crown braid around her head, and Caroline had completed her look with the diamond stud earrings Klaus had given her for her last birthday.

"Thanks, Mom," Caroline beamed. "I think I'm ready."

Despite the cold February weather, Caroline wanted photos at the gazebo in the town square, so the girls bundled up and made their way there. Diane had already been there and had it covered in lights, so it made for a perfect photographic setting.

"Diane, you should really go into event planning," Caroline advised. "You can't like working for Nik, and you're so good at this."

"Well, it helps when you don't have a strict budget, and I'd miss being in the office," Diane admitted. "Okay, ladies, coats off."

Caroline shucked off her Ralph Lauren coat and stood at the center of the gazebo with Katherine and Rebekah, both in black bridesmaid dresses, on either side of her. Against the black and white scheme of their gowns, the bouquets of pink peonies really stood out. After the gazebo, Caroline wanted photos back at the Mikaelson mansion, so the girls were once again bundled up and whisked away.

"Oh, my God," Caroline breathed as she stood in the completely altered foyer. "Diane, this is incredible. Seriously, I'm telling Nik to fire you so you have no choice. He knows plenty of rich people in Washington now; they wouldn't set a budget."

Diane blushed. "Stop it. It was just for fun. Now, it's nearing three, so do you want to do some individual shots here before the guys arrive? Or do you want to just wait for them?"

"Let's do a few of just the girls," Caroline decided. "Then I can hide upstairs until he's here."

At almost exactly three o'clock, Klaus made his way into the house and had a similar reaction to the decorations that his wife-to-be did.

"If you can do this, why are you working for me?" he asked of Diane. "You did this in two months."

She just rolled her eyes. "You couldn't live without me, Klaus, and you know it. Besides, I'd have to train someone new to your particularities, and that would take forever. This is just a fun side job. I'll plan Kol and Bonnie's next."

Kol, who'd been standing nearby, slid over to them. "Did Bonnie say something about me?"

Klaus shoved him. "Go away. Where's Caroline?" he addressed Diane once more.

Diane looked up to the top of the stairs and nodded once at Katherine, the signal that it was time for the bride to make her entrance. "Okay, everyone who isn't Klaus needs to head into the ballroom. Jake," she added to one of the photographers, "you stay, too."

Everyone left, and moments later, Katherine and Rebekah hurried down the stairs to join the group, though Rebekah did stop to kiss her brother on the cheek before disappearing.

Klaus stood nervously with his hands in his pockets, waiting for Caroline to appear at the top of the steps. She'd told him just a bit about her dress, but he was anxious to see it in person and on her. Just as he was beginning to think she'd chickened out, she stepped out from the hallway and his breath caught in his throat. Quietly, she made her way down towards her, and the only sound was the camera going off. When she reached the bottom of the stairs, Klaus reached out to take her hands in his.

"You're speechless," she smiled smugly. "I knew I'd make it happen someday."

"There are no words that fit you," he breathed, spinning her around. "I'm simply in awe."

"You look really handsome, too," she grinned. "You should wear a tux more often."

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," he grumbled. "But really, Caroline, you're a vision, and I've never seen anyone look so perfect in all my life."

She kissed him then and cuddled into him, having missed him in the last seventeen hours they'd been apart.

"Let's get married," she whispered.

"All right," he happily agreed.

The ceremony was an intimate affair (with more people expected for the reception), and due to that, Caroline and Klaus had decided to write their own vows. They'd set a time limit, as they wanted it short and sweet, but both sets were unforgettable.

"Ask anyone who knew me before we met, and they'd tell you I was an insufferable prick," Klaus began. "Even my own sister told you to stay away from me that first day we met, but your inherently curious nature couldn't allow that, so you stormed out into the backyard here and weaseled your way into my life. I thought you to be invasive and a tad obnoxious, but there was also something else about you, something that kept you on my mind for the next three months. When I returned home for the Labor Day festival, I had to see you again, so Rebekah helped to set us up, though she wasn't fully onboard yet. All I knew was that I wanted to know you. It was that simple. It went beyond your beauty and your disposition; there was a light about you that at the time, I liked, but now I know I needed it. I needed your light to pull me from the darkness I was succumbing to at the time." He tightened his grip on Caroline's hands to steady himself. "I let you down once, at a time in your life when you needed me most, and I might never forgive myself for that. You are the best thing that has ever and could ever happen to me, and that you've forgiven me is the greatest honor. I will spend the rest of my life making you as happy as I possibly can. I love you more than life itself, and I cannot wait to see what our future holds as your husband."

Caroline let go of his hands long enough to wipe the tears that threatened to fall before clinging to him once more. "I had all of this planned out, what I wanted to say, but then last night, as I was going to bed, I kept thinking about the first night we ever spent in our first Richmond apartment, nine years ago. I'd only ever lived with my parents, mostly my mom, and now here I was, eighteen-years-old and living with my boyfriend. A boyfriend who, for the most part, had been long-distance the whole first year. I was scared. I was pretty insecure back then, and I was so afraid you were going to realize I wasn't anything special. When I was finally able to voice that fear to you, you took me into your arms and promised it wouldn't happen. We stayed up that entire night, talking about what we wanted our life together to be." She smiled at him. "This is even better than what we planned. I believe people have to go through hardships to truly appreciate what they have, and you and I have gone through enough hardships to last a lifetime. Forgiving you for everything that happened was easy. You're my soul mate, Niklaus Mikaelson, and you can't be mad at your soul mate forever. The first nine months after the accident, I felt like I was just going through the motions, trying to get back to who I was because I liked that girl. It wasn't until, upon the advice of a friend," she looked out in the crowd at Enzo, "that I decided I would be happiest with you. And I am. When I'm with you, I feel like Caroline. You are my very best friend, and I'm so excited to be your wife. I love you, and I like you."

A few minutes later, after exchanging rings, the justice of the peace smiled at them. "And now, by the power vested in me by the state of Virginia, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Klaus, you may kiss your bride."

Klaus leaned in and captured Caroline's lips in his, thrilled that, nearly six years after initially asking her, she was finally his wife.
