Highway Song

After the police escorted Animo back to jail, Ben sat on his bed with Supergirl by his side. He couldn't believe the sheer power she possessed. He was pretty jealous about that - even by the point of glaring at his Omnitrix. His ego shot as he remembered how Kara had to save twice in day. Gwen couldn't help but laugh at that, and Green Lantern shared a few snickers here and there, wanting to tell the League about it.

Kara sat there on his bed talking to Ben on a few stuff, however what caught her attention was that Ben's voice was sounding kinda...sad. Why?

"Ben, are you okay?" Kara asked.

"Y-y-yeah, I'm okay. Thanks," said Ben in a distraut tone in his voice.

"I'm no Wonder Woman, but I can still tell that something's bothering you," Kara playfully pointed out.

"How could you tell?"

"You're the obvious one," Kara said, putting her hand over Ben's shoulders, "If there's anything that's bothering you, you can either tell Gwen or I."

"What about Lantern?"

"Lantern has his days," said Kara.

Ben observed Green Lantern fooling around with Gwen.

"Good point," he stated, and then sighed.

Noticing that Kara won't tell no for an answer, he gave in.

"You," he admitted.

"Me?" Kara was confused.

"I mean, not you in a bad way. But...whenever...your powers are so much greater than mine!" Ben complained.

"My powers? What makes you say that?" Kara asked, raising an eyebrow, but a little concerned.

"Whenever I use the watch, I'm on a time limit on how long I'm a certain alien. You? You're like a titan out from Greek Mythology! Your adventures proved your worth - not mine. I'm just a secondary superhero. You? You're primary. I'm just a...a boy with a toy."

Kara felt bad for Ben. Though she had seen Ben transformed multiple times in the present, but seeing 10-year old Ben as cocky as he was finally breaking down. Whether 10 or 15, it was very hard to see Ben breaking down. As a lone tear fell from Ben's cheeks, Kara wiped the remains from his face.

"Heh - well at least you're powers don't come at a powerful price," said Kara.

Ben looked at her in curiosity, "What?"

"Well, my biggest concern is red sun radiation, kryptonite, and much else," she smiled, "You know how you remind me of?"

"Who?"

"My cousin," she said.

Ben rose an eyebrow. This was the very first time 10-year old Ben have ever heard of this news.

"Who's your cousin?"

Kara smiled very weakly at this. This still haunted her, no matter where ever, or whenever she goes, it still haunted her. She took a deep breath and said...

"Superman," she said.

Ben rose an eyebrow. Kara did not bother to tell Ben about him because of the Grandfather theory and what not. But the time stream was already dangerously thin as it was already.

"Who was he?" Ben asked.

"A hero," Kara said, tears slowly sliding from her blue eyes, "You remind me a lot of him - even in the future," she wiped her face, "A hero starts with a seed, as the seed begins to grow, it gets stronger, and firmer before become a mature, blooming flower. You're only a seed, but in time, you'll be a hero, not just in this world - but in all worlds. So don't doubt yourself, don't ever feel bad. You're going to be a somebody one day," Kara lifted Ben's chin up, "And I believe in you, Ben Tennyson."

Ben replied by climbing on Kara, giving her a soft hug. Kara returned the hug and sobbed softly.
