They still slept together.

Sam thought nothing of it at first. She had quickly learned that Cat Valentine's definition of normalcy wasn't actually normal. She appreciated weird, but the redhead took weird and transformed it until it was epically unrecognizable.

There weren't many people who could say they met inside the compactor of a roving garbage truck while having to scramble for their lives, but they could.

That first night, Cat climbed in next to her because she didn't want her to be scared. Sam had tried to question it, but the girl had already gone to sleep.

The second night, after their somewhat haphazard babysitting, Cat had forgone her room to sleep next to Sam on the sofa again. There was no smile, no happy chatter, no good night.

"You okay?" Sam had asked. She might have only known Cat for a hours, but she knew that the aspiring actress was rarely this quiet.

"Nona's not here anymore," Cat said softly, with her back to the blonde.

Sam rolled her eyes. "I thought you were over this."

"I'm happy that she's happy, but..."

"But?" Sam prodded when it was clear Cat wasn't going to continue.

Cat turned over, and Sam saw that the girl had tears in her eyes."Being alone scares me," Cat said.

"I was okay with Nona, because even though we were in separate rooms, I knew she was here. Even her sleepwalking didn't really bother me, 'cause it let me know she was around. But she's gone now, and everything is just so quiet."

Sam wasn't really one for comforting, and she hadn't known what to say in any case. So she let her sleep.

And it continued, though they eventually moved from the sofa to Cat's room.

One night, weeks later, Cat declared that she wasn't so scared anymore. "I like having you here," she'd said, smiling, then promptly laid down next to Sam. And there was nothing to say to that either. At least, nothing the blonde could say.

So they still slept together. And it wasn't weird anymore, if it had ever been in the first place. It was just them, just Sam and Cat.

Just us, Sam thought as she crawled into bed.
