UPDATE JULY 7, 2018: Hey guys! So this story keeps getting favorites/follows and I'm not super sure why (thankful for the support, but mildly concerned because I cringe when I read this...), but I just wanted to let any and all new people- and maybe old people- to this story no that I am REWRITING this story because let's be honest, this one is so bad lol. The new one is up and running on my profile right now! Same title and everything- even says 'rewrite' in the description so you know you've got the right one!
Thanks all for your continued support and remember to check out the new and improved Falcon- as well as my other fic, 'When the Tides Change' featuring my other OC, Nightfall! ^^
This is my first story ever. Woohoo~
Nothing in here belongs to me except Falcon and I guess Chiller as well.
STATUE OF LIBERTY, NEW YORK CITY.
July 4, 11:00 EDT
This is so typical of them. I swear they do it to spite me. They fight each other more than the bad guys!
"Can you two stop arguing with each other for two seconds? We have more important things to deal with right now!" I shouted as I did a back flip to avoid a blast of ice headed my way.
"He started it." Hawk and Dove stated at the same time. They glared at each other and then the two quickly went back to bickering about the best way to take down Chiller. Dove was all for the peaceful way while Hawk was all for the violent way. Me personally? Either way is fine.
While the two brothers were distracted, Chiller blasted Dove with ice and froze him to a tree
"DOVE!" Hawk and I cried.
"One down. Two to go." Cackled Chiller. Oh she should not have done that. I ran over to Dove to try to get him out while Chiller had to face the wrath of Hawk. That guy is just pure chaos.
"RAAAH" Hawk screamed as he flew into action. He sent a flurry of punches and jabs at Chiller while Chiller was in return sending blasts of ice at him.
From a distance it looked as if those two were dancing and not fighting. I turned away from the fight and pulled out my knife. I quickly started to cut and hack at the ice to get Dove free. It was sort of working. All of a sudden, Hawk flew out of nowhere and went through tree next to Dove. I whipped around just in time to dodge a blast of ice. Unfortunately, the blast managed to catch my foot freezing it to the ground.
"Today is just not my day." I mumbled to myself.
"Falcon, you okay?" Dove asked me.
"Yeah just peachy." I answered back. Hawk then reached his arms around me and pulled me up from the ground pulling my foot from its icy prison.
"I'm sorry Dove, but it doesn't look like she's going to go down peacefully." Hawk stated.
"I can see that." Dove muttered. I could tell he was a bit upset. Violence is just not his thing.
"We need to distract her." I told my brothers. They both agreed with me and we came up with a plan. Dove was still frozen to the tree so he couldn't do much, but Hawk and I on the other hand, we could do plenty.
The plan was simple; Hawk would provide physical distractions while Dove would provide vocal distractions. I on the other hand was to sneak around to behind her and take her out from behind.
Hawk put the plan in motion when he threw the first punch that sent her flying into the Statue of Liberty. When Chiller got back up, she didn't look so hot. Not that she did in the first place, you know, with her being an ice villain and all but you get the point.
"Aaaaaaaaaah! You will pay for that bird brain!" Chiller screamed at Hawk. Sheesh. Anger issues much?
Hawk just smirk and simply said, "Bring it babe."
He looked over to where I was perched in a tree waiting for my queue to take her out. Chiller sent a flurry of ice blasts at Hawk each of which he managed to dodge with his enhanced speed.
As this was going on I was stuck up in the tree waiting. This isn't the first time I've been stuck in a tree waiting for Hawk to give me the sign to take down the enemy. I just hope this time he'll let me take her down.
I glanced down at my watch and my eyes widened behind my mask when I noticed what time it was. Today is the day! I had totally forgotten and we're supposed to be at the Hall of Justice in half an hour! I looked up to yell at Hawk only to find him waiting for me below the tree with Chiller thrown over his shoulder. Of course he took her out. Why did I ever believe that I was going to be able to have the final blow?
I glared at him and was about to yell at him when he interrupted me.
"Hey. Don't get mad at me. I gave you the sign but you weren't paying attention so I had to take matters into my own hands." He explained. I would've been okay with this if it wasn't for the huge smirk plastered on his face.
"Yea, yea, yea. I'm sure you did. Now come on! Today is the day!" I exclaimed. Hawk just laughed at me and walked over to deliver Chiller to the cops. I frowned and made my way over to Dove to finish breaking him out of the ice.
Dove seemed to notice the upset look on my face.
"What's wrong Fal?" Dove questioned me. I looked up at him and then back down.
"Why does Hawk always get all the action?" I complained to Dove. He just simply laughed.
"Hey, I'm being serious!" I scolded him. For a peaceful guy, he's a butt.
"I know, I know. I don't really mind. I like order and peace. He likes chaos and fighting hence why the action tends to go to him. We've been over this Fal." He stated.
"Yea but still, I like order and peace AND chaos and fighting. He can at least be nice and give me some action." I muttered. I looked up at Dove to see him send me a sad smile.
"What?" I asked. Dove better not be pitying me.
"Nothing sis. I just wish you were a bit more peaceful." He admitted. He gave me another sad smile and looked away. I bit my lip and went back to breaking him out of the ice.
As soon as I got Dove out o the ice, Hawk sauntered back over to us with a huge smile on his face.
"That was an awesome fight!" Hawk exclaimed proudly. I smacked him upside the head.
"Hey! What was that for?" He complained. He just looked at me with a pout on his face.
"For not letting me take Chiller out!" I answered. Sometimes Hawk just gets on my nerves.
"I already told you Fal-" He started. I quickly cut him off with a flick of my hand.
"Whatever Hank. You do this all the time!" I shouted at him. He flinched when I said his name.
I smacked my forehead. "I'm sorry Hawk. It's just that… I dunno. Whatever" I turned around and started to walk away. Before I got far, I felt a hand wrap around my waist and pull me backwards into a hug.
"I'm sorry Fal. I don't mean to take all the action in a fight it's just that I lose myself in the fight sometimes and I just take control. Are we okay?" Hawk timidly asked me.
"Of course we're okay. Now come one! Today's the day!" I shouted excitedly while bouncing up and down. Hawk and Dove laughed at me as we made our way to the nearest zeta tube to zeta to the Hall of Justice.
WASHINGTON, D.C.
July 4, 12:00 EDT
When we finally made it to the Hall of Justice, the gang was all here. Well minus the speedsters. Go figure. They can travel at the speed of light but they can't be on time anywhere.
I walked over and stood by Robin.
"Hey Fal." He said, "Nice of you to join us." He smirked.
"Whatever." I rolled my eyes. "You can blame the bickering duo behind me." I motioned to Hawk and Dove who at the moment were standing proudly behind me until they heard my comment. I felt them glaring at me and I turned my head and flashed them an innocent smile and then turned my attention to the Hall of Justice.
Wow. The Hall is breathtaking. It's just so magnificent. It's absolutely huge and amazing and now I'm even more excited to go inside.
"Today's the day." Batman said while putting his hand on Robin's shoulder.
"Welcome to the Hall of Justice." Green Arrow proudly said.
"Headquarters of the Justice League." Aquaman finished for him. Weird how they can complete each other's sentences.
"Aw man." Kid Flash's voice was heard from behind us.
We all turned around to see Flash and Kid Flash sliding to a halt.
"Hey Flash Boy, thanks for joining us!" I mocked. From beside me I heard Robin stifle a cackle.
Wally on the other hand just glared at me.
"I knew we'd be the last ones here." Kid Flash complained while Flash just looked at him with an amused smile on his face.
Now that the gang's all here we finally began our trip into the Hall, but first we had to make it through tourist alley. As we were walking by, I noticed some cute little kids dress up as Batman and Superman. They looked so excited to see the great Batman in person.
"Is that batman?" Someone asked. I rolled my eyes at their comment.
"Look! It's the terrific trio!" At that comment I smiled proudly. So people really do know my brother's and I.
"Look its Flash and Flash Junior!" Another tourist shouted. I silently laugh and looked over to Wally who looked pretty peeved.
"No, it's speedy." Replied another tourist.
"No, Speedy's Green Arrow's sidekick!" Answered yet another clueless tourist. Sometimes I hate tourists.
"Well that makes no sense." Deadpanned the tourist.
"He does have a point." Robin whispered to me. I stifled a laugh and glanced at Speedy who was glaring at us.
Luckily for Robin and I, G.A. distracted him.
"Ready to see the inner sanctum?" Green Arrow asked Speedy.
"Born that way." He proudly replied.
"I'm glad we're all here." Aqualad said looking around with a proud smile.
"Have all five sidekicks ever been in the same place at the same time before?" Kid Flash excitedly asked.
"Don't call us sidekicks, not after today." Speedy angrily said.
"Sorry." KF replied. "First time at the hall, I'm a little overwhelmed."
"You're overwhelmed, Freeze was underwhelmed. Why can't anyone just be whelmed?" Robin commented nonchalantly. Robin continued on walking while KF just stared at him.
We all entered the Hall of Justice. I could've sworn I heard dramatic music playing in the background. As soon as I looked up, my mouth dropped. Talk about whelmed. Right inside were like 50 ft statues of the founding members of the Justice League. They were enormous!
"Oh maybe that's why." Robin muttered looking on in awe at the sheer whelming power of the statues.
We made our way over the giant metal door marked 'Authorize Personnel Only.' The door opened revealing Martian Manhunter and Red Tornado.
"Robin, Falcon, Speedy, Aqualad, Kid Flash. Welcome." Martian Manhunter said. I smiled while Robin and Kid Flash fist bumped each other. The martian turned around and headed on to the next room.
"You now have unlimited access to the gym, our fully stacked gallery, and of course our library." The Martian Manhunter added as the heavy metal doors slid shut behind us with a click.
We walked into a huge room that had a bunch of bookshelves lining the walls and a huge monitor at the front of the room. Another very whelming room if I do say so myself.
"Make yourselves at home." Flash commented, spreading his arms out and gesturing to the room.
Kid Flash, Robin, and Aqualad sat down in the three chairs while Speedy stood. I stood off the side as well until Kid Flash flashed me a smile and attempted at flirting with me.
"Hey babe. You can sit on my lap if you would like to." He winked at me. I rolled my eyes and glanced at Hawk and Dove glaring at Kid Flash. I better intervene so they don't murder him.
I sauntered over to KF and gave him a flirty smile while acting like I was going to accept his offer. When I got close to him, I just slapped him on the back of the head and continued on sit on the armrest of Robin's chair.
Kid Flash gave me a hurt look but with one look at the smirk on my face, his hurt look turned into a glare. I just ignored him and turned to look at my brother's who were laughing, with the Flash mind you, at Wally's failed flirting.
Batman cleared his throat and we all turned our attention to him.
"Quick debrief to discuss the coincidence of five ice villains attacking on the same day." He then looked at us. "We shouldn't be long." With that said he turned around and looked at the locked door. A scanner then came down and scanned the elder heroes.
A robotic voice began to speak, "Recognized: Batman 0-2, Aquaman 0-6, Flash 0-4, Green Arrow 0-8, Martian Manhunter 0-7, Red Tornado 1-6, Dove 1-4, Hawk 1-5."
The doors the opened allowing the access to whatever room they were heading into.
"That's it?!" Came an angry voice from behind me. Oh no. This can't be good.
The league members turned around to an angry Speedy.
"You promised us a real look inside, not a glorified backstage pass." Speedy accused. He stood there with his arms crossed over his chest and a stubborn look to his face.
"It's a first step, you've been granted access few others get." Aquaman said.
"Oh really?" Speedy mocked. He then gestured to a window full of tourists above our heads. Hey. When did that get here? Speedy then continued his rant.
"Who cares what side of the glass we're on?" Speedy argued.
"Roy, you just need to be patient." Green Arrow tried and failed to calm Roy down.
"What I need is respect!" Roy shouted. "They're treating us like kids. Worse, like sidekicks. We deserve better than this!" Roy tried to convince us to see his way. I could see his side of the argument, but hey, I don't want to get on the bad side of the league. I just want to join my brothers.
There was a moment of silence as Kid Flash, Robin, Aqualad and I looked around at eachother.
"You're kidding right?" Oh boy was he annoyed with us. "You're playing their game? Why!? Today was supposed to be THE day." He angrily thrusted his hand down. "Step one to becoming full fledged members of the league!"
"Well sure, but I though step one was a tour of the HQ?" I snapped. Roy was really starting to tick me off.
He glared at me and then continued on. "Except the Hall isn't the leagues real HQ!" No freaking way. Roy's statement caught all or our attentions.
"I bet they never told you it was just a false front for tourists and a pit stop for catching zeta beam teleporter tubes to the real thing." Roy motioned to the ceiling and I looked up. "And orbiting satellite called The Watchtower!"
I glanced over to my brothers who both had sheepish expressions on their faces. They caught my look and sheepishly smiled at me. I just glared at them. They are both so dead.
"You are not helping your cause here son. Stand down." Aquaman said in an authorative voice while walking towards Roy.
"Or what? You'll send me to my room and I'm not your son!" Roy shouted. Suddenly his voice got quieter. "I'm not even his. I thought I was his partner. But not anymore." Roy ripped off his hat and slammed it on the ground at Green Arrow's feet. We all looked at Roy with shock. He's quitting? He can't! We're so close to becoming members of the league!
Roy stormed off and as he passed through where the other's and I were sitting he angrily spat at us, "I guess their right about you four." He continued on walking. "You're not ready."
All four of us jumped up and stared at the retreating figure of Speedy. We turned and looked solemnly at each other and then back to the league members. There was an awkward silence until Superman popped up on the monitor. Kudos to him for stopping and extremely awkward conversation most likely to happen.
"Superman to Justice League there's been an explosion at project Cadmus." Superman said. "It's on fire."
Batman's eyes narrowed as he stated that he's had his suspicions about project Cadmus.
"This may be the perfect opportunity to-" Batman began but was soon cut off buy another alarm.
Zatara popped up on the screen.
"Zatara to Justice League, The sorcerer Wotan is attempted to use the Amulet of Aten to blot out the sun, requesting full league response!" What a coincidence.
"Superman?" Batman asked.
"It's a small fire, the local authorities have it under control." Superman answered.
"Then Cadmus can wait" Batman reached out to the computer and pressed a com button. "All leaguers report to Zatara's coordinates." Batman said. "Batman out."
The screens went black as the league turned to find the younger heroes walking towards them. Excitement filled my body. I was going to get to fight alongside the Justice League! And not just my bickering brothers!
"Stay put." Batman told us. Excitement gone. Dang he's a kill joy.
"What? Why?" Robin asked waving his arms around.
"This is a league mission." Hawk piped in. No. He cannot pull that crap. He's been a hero for as long as I have!
"You're not trained." Flash said.
"Since when?!" Kid Flash asked.
"I meant you're not trained to work as a part of this team." Flash finished gesturing to Batman, Aquaman and Hawk.
"There will be other missions when you're ready." Aquaman said.
"But for now, stay put." Batman said making sure to put extra emphasis on the "stay put" part. Yea I heard you loud and clear buddy.
The four heroes then turned and walked out with the rest of the heroes. Dove was the last to leave. He looked at me sympathetically. I just glared at him. How could they! My brothers of all people. I trust them with my life and yet they just treated me like I was their sidekick!
"When we're ready? How are we ever supposed to be ready if… if they treat us like sidekicks!" shouted Wally pacing around.
"My mentor, my king. I thought he trusted me." Aqualad stated sadly.
"Trust?! They don't even trust us with the basics!" I shouted.
"Yea!" Wally agreed, "They have a secret HQ in SPACE! How's that for trust?"
Aqualad lowered his head. "What else aren't they telling us?" He questioned.
Robin sighed. "I have a better question. Why didn't we leave with Speedy?" We all looked down.
He's got a point. My brothers mean everything to me and they just betrayed my trust. Acted like I was nothing to them! Gaaah! My anger was rising. Stupid chaos.
"Ugh. This is so infuriating." I whipped around to punch the air but little did I know that Wally had just walked there. He got the full force of my punch. Luckily I just managed to catch him in the shoulder.
"Oof." He mumbled as he fell on his butt. I threw my hands over my mouth and gasped.
"Ohmygod. Wally I am so sorry!" I apologize profusely. Just because the kid is annoying, doesn't mean I actually want to hurt him… Besides, he didn't earn pain from me this time.
I slowly helped Wally back to his feet.
"Dang Fal. That's some arm you got there. Heh." He sheepishly smiled at me.
Robin had enjoyed the whole show as he was currently doubled over in laughter. Aqualad just had a bemused look to his face. Wally and I just glared at Robin and were about to pounce on him when Aqualad stopped us with a question.
"What is project Cadmus?" Aqualad cautiously asked.
"The Cadmus part sounds familiar." I stated. I think I've read about a legend or something like that in school. But who knows. Legends aren't my thing.
Robin looked at me and walked over to the computer.
"Dunno, but I can find out." Robin began hacking away at the computer. Gotta love having a hacker around.
"Access denied." Said a computerized voice. Yea right. Not for long it won't be.
"Heh. Wanna bet?" Robin challenged.
A bunch of encrypted codes and files started popping up.
"Woah. How are you doing that?" I asked.
"Same system as the Batcave." Robin smirked. He typed in a few more things and then…
"Access granted." The computerized voice spoke
"Alright, project Cadmus, it's a genetics lab located here in DC. That's all there is." I frowned. That can't be right. "But if Batman's suspicious, then maybe we should investigate?" Robin asked, putting one hand on his hip. Ooh I do like the sound of this.
"Solve their case before they do?" Aqualad asked. "It would be justice." He smiled at the thought.
"Hey. They're all about Justice." Robin remarked.
Aqualad sighed. "But they said to stay put."
"For the blotting out the sun mission not this!" Robin exclaimed.
"Wait. Are you going to Cadmus? Because if you're going, I'm going." Kid Flash said to Robin.
Robin nodded and smirked. I am so in.
The duo turned and look at Aqualad and I with hopeful smiles.
"Duh. Of course I'm going. No way I'm staying here alone." I stated.
"Just like that, we're a team on a mission?" Aqualad looked amused.
"We didn't come here for a play date." Said Robin.
Aqualad just smiled at us. And with that, we were on our way to project Cadmus.
