A/n: I owe you all a huge apology for the inexcusable delay. I am sorry. Life happened. If people are still reading this, which I doubt they are, know that I'm thankful for every review, every follow and every single person who has added this weird oddball of a story to their favourites.

Disclaimer: Still not mine.

Listen to: The Ice is Getting Thinner by DCFC.

The long black robes and the firm metal mask feel alien and his left arm hurts like someone has slit it open with a dagger. His feet move slowly and he's afraid his knees are going to give way any moment, because he's terrified of what he might find when he reaches the cell she has been locked up in.

She scrambles and sits up when she sees that she has a visitor and he heaves a sigh of relief. She looks shaken but unhurt. However, nothing prepares him for the expression on her face when he takes off his mask and lowers his hood.

It is a look of the purest disdain and it is so strange to see her wear such an expression. She is one of the kindest people he knows and he has never seen he look at anyone like that, let alone him. It pains him to see the comprehension dawn on her face, a pain that makes the ache in his arm feel like nothing.

Doesn't she understand why he's doing this? Does she really think that little of him?

He opens the door of her cell but she backs away, sinking further into its depths. He holds out a hand but she refuses to budge.

'You joined them, Remus? How could you? The very people who you were fighting against?' she whispers, her voice broken.

Oh, how desperately he wants to hold her and tell her everything! Instead, all he can do is wear his hood and put his mask back on, for the slightest revelation of whose side he's really on would mean instant death for both of them.

He sees the resolve strengthen in her eyes and she practically runs from the cell, determined to put as much distance between them as possible. He follows her quietly till they reach the portkey which is supposed to take her home, as promised. He watches as her hand trembles before she grasps the old boot tightly in both hands and gasps when it glows bright blue. It is only after she has disappeared that his knees buckle and he sinks to the floor.

She's gone.

In his anguish, he doesn't see Severus Snape grip the wall behind him so tightly that his knuckles turn white.

A/n: Thank you for reading! Please leave a review :-)

A friend pointed out to me that the story has very little of Molly's fandom, so the next chapter will have more of Molly and perhaps a little bit of Sherlock and John. I don't know when I'll be able to update since I'm working on the sequel to 'Of Muggles among other things' but I'll try my best to do it before the week ends.

Love
