This fic is dedicated to Measured because it was her idea I write it. Surely I can't be the only one who notices sage!Lissa looks like Emmeryn with pigtails. Assumes paralogue 20 was never unlocked.

It's something he's noticed since the war was in full swing, and he's tried not to think too much about it. But one day he sees her dressed in her old Sage robes and something inside him breaks.

It's been a year since the war with Grima ended, and everything has more or less settled down. The children have returned to their own future, and their present selves have just been born or will be very soon. Whether their future will line up with that of their older selves remains to be seen, but they'll be safe and that's what matters.

Everything turned out fine, Chrom reasons. Robin did indeed come back, much to the relief of Gaius. Ylisse, Plegia, Valm and Regna Ferox have rebuilt themselves, all of the continent has become a more or less peaceful place.

But something's still missing, and no matter how happily things ended some things cannot be replaced.

Sister...

For the first time since losing Emmeryn, he's noticed just how much Lissa has grown to look like her, and it hurts. The memory of her falling from the cliff is burned in his mind, sharp as if it had happened just yesterday.

When they talk about the Exalt, he has to take a moment to remember they're talking about him. When he looks at Lucina, he thinks of the aunt her older self tried to save and her guilt when she ultimately failed. He and Sumia discuss names for their soon-to-be born second child and he has to bite his knuckle not to suggest Emmeryn for a girl not because she wouldn't want to be honored that way, but because it would be too painful a reminder of what Ylisse has lost.

"Chrom?" She turns to look at him, and he chokes back a sob. Emmeryn, if only you could see how well she's grown up. She always wanted to be a fine lady just like you. He tries to speak, but he's afraid he'll start crying if he does; Lissa recognizes the look on his face and walks over, throwing her arms around his chest. For a moment he just holds her, taking in large gulps of air.

"I thought I'd finally come to terms with her death," he finally says. "But seeing you in those robes, with your hair down..."

"I know," she sighs. "I looked at myself in the mirror this morning and cried. Chrom, I miss her so much. She was the most perfect sister ever, she knew everything and understood us, and..."

"She was the best." Chrom closes his eyes. "Every day I still wish we could have saved her. She'd be so happy to know the world was at peace after so long..."

Lissa lets him go and smiles a little, and he can see her blinking back tears of her own.

"Well...Libra said when a person dies, their body may be gone but their spirit's still watching us," she said. "So I guess in a way, Emm is watching this and I'll bet she's happy!" He can't help but smile a little, leave it to Lissa to bring a little sunshine into a sad moment.

"You really think so?"

"Yeah." Lissa's smile grows wider, even as a few tears escape. "And I think she's proud of you, Chrom."

She looks just like Emmeryn, but this time Chrom's tears accompany a smile of his own.
