Epilogue

"I still believe that this was his plan all along," Jareth hissed as he slipped into her office. "I swear I will go mad between these fools and the goblins. I fully intend to bog every single one of them."

Sarah looked up from the mountain of paperwork in front of her and smiled, appreciating the worry lines that creased the forehead of his glamour. She had finally begun adjusting to the life of an immortal, but she appreciated the reminder that Sarah Williams – Sarah King now – would age and die and only remain immortal in the hearts of her family.

Jareth had conveniently forgotten to explain to her that time passed differently Underground. It was just shy of seventeen mortal years since she had accepted his proposal, but at least a century had passed in the Goblin Kingdom. Truthfully, she couldn't be certain of the actual length of time, and she was happier for it. "I hope you are talking about the goblins and not the investors," she chuckled as he slumped in the chair opposite her.

"If only it were that easy to sway that pack of buffoons," he muttered unhappily.

"And that is why I am taking care of it. You have enough on your plate with the harvest, adding this nonsense would be too much." She grunted as she stood, her belly much larger and more cumbersome than it had been even a week before.

"I should be saying the same to you," he growled, jumping up to assist her. She froze him in place with a glare, pleased that the trick had worked. Her magic had been fleeting before the pregnancy, and now her hormones only seemed to interfere with the miniscule control she had. He easily shook off the spell, but it was still the fact that she had been able to hold him for any amount of time that had her beaming.

"I'm pregnant Jareth, not crippled. I had hoped that you'd learned that the first time around."

"It was a miracle that you conceived with Griffyn. That you are once again with child in so short a time is unheard of. I am only concerned for your health," he chided, his hand falling protectively over her rounded belly.

"I was still mostly human when Griffyn was conceived. I fear this little one is simply the result of lots of practice," she joked. "Besides, I hardly think that ten years is a short time."

"By mortal standards, perhaps …"

"Then the only solution is to simply stop any acts that could result in my incapacitation," she threatened. His eyes darkened immediately, and she shivered. If there was one thing that she knew with a certainty, it was that this man would never stop desiring her. "It was a joke," she sighed when his mood continued to darken. "Besides, I'm sure my infertility will kick in soon enough."

She rolled her eyes at his obvious relief at the thought. He loved their children – born and unborn – more than she could express with words, but he saw her as Fae and believed that her body would react as such. In truth, she was still partly human and would always be. It was that part that allowed her to give him this gift. She felt the babes kick in agreement and smiled. She still refused to tell him that it was twins, though she could no longer think of the argument that had caused her to punish him in the first place.

"I still do not like the thought of you working so hard. You should be resting, not dealing with these mindless idiots."

"Again, are you talking about the investors or goblins?" She laughed and was pleased to see his smile. "The deal is almost done. Once Toby finishes the mock ups and Dad looks over them, we should be good to go. Thank you again," she added.

"For what?"

"Toby. You didn't have to give him this position so soon after graduating. I've heard the whispers of favoritism, and I know you would have preferred to avoid that."

"I had once thought to name the boy my heir. Of course, I never had the chance because his sister won him back," he reminded her. She'd been speechless when he finally admitted what he intended for Toby had she failed. "Honestly, he has proven to have the same head for business as you, Precious. I am simply ensuring that I ensnare the best of the next generation."

"He is hardly a boy anymore," she sighed. Tonight was Toby's twenty second birthday and the reason Jareth had been able to escape the Goblin Kingdom during the harvest. In an hour, they would be celebrating as a family at the most expensive restaurant that Jareth could find. He had started a tradition of spoiling her siblings and had never stopped.

"We should go, my love," he urged as he handed her the coat she had carelessly draped over a chair earlier. She nodded and eagerly accepted his help into it. She was not a cripple, but some things were simply easier with assistance in her condition.

The ride to the restaurant was calming and allowed her to think of the path that had brought her to this place. Jareth had once offered her dreams in exchange for a baby. She had won the baby back, but he had still granted her wish. She felt the babes stir in her womb and smiled. She'd given him his dream as well. She hadn't realized how deeply Jareth wanted children until she had told him she was pregnant. It was the first time she had seen him cry, the second being when he held his son for the first time.

She saw her parents as soon as they arrived and openly laughed. Kelly was struggling to hold Griffyn in check until the limo could stop. Watching Kelly grow made Sarah realize how much of her father she had in herself. She had always assumed that she took more after Linda. Seeing Kelly now was like looking at herself when she'd run through the Labyrinth. Her personality wasn't far off either.

"I believe Griffyn may be close to an unexpected trip back to the Labyrinth if this keeps up," Jareth warned, speaking Sarah's thoughts. "I suppose it is beneficial that he would simply be wished home."

"It's also beneficial that she wouldn't remember her brother-in-law and his indecent pants," she teased.

He leaned over and whispered in her ear, "The last time I checked, you enjoyed those pants almost too much."

She felt the heat on her cheeks and gently smacked his shoulder. He chuckled and opened the door. As soon as he slid from the vehicle, Griffyn broke free and ran to Jareth. Griffyn had inherited her dark coloring but otherwise was the spitting image of his father. Jareth scooped his son up eagerly and spun him a few times. Sarah managed to pull herself out of the car by the time Jareth put the child down. "Mommy!" he squealed as he launched himself at her.

A unified cry of "Griffyn!" halted him before he could topple Sarah. She laughed at the familiarity of it and scooped up her son despite the horrified look on Karen's face. Her stepmother had been the only sane mind she could talk to about her pregnancies, but she still had her reservations about what Sarah should do and should not do. Picking up her ten year old son was definitely on the do not do list.

She made her way over to her parents after putting Griffyn down. "Mom. Dad.," she greeted them warmly with a kiss. Neither were old, but time was beginning to show on them both. Karen's wrinkles had finally started to win the battle against her arsenal of creams, and her father's hair was more grey than brown now. It was a painful reminder that she would eventually see them fade. It would have happened anyway, but it still hurt to think she would be here long after they were gone.

"We're simply waiting on the birthday boy now," Robert advised. "He sent me a text that he would be here soon. He needed to pick up Andy first."

"I thought Brian was bringing her," Jareth said.

"He got held up at home. Besides, I think Toby wanted some time alone with her."

Jareth and Brian had seemed overly surprised when Toby had first asked Andy out a few years ago. It hadn't come as a surprise to Sarah though. She had remained close to Brian. Not only was he one of the few who still enjoyed life Above, but he was also one of their few allies in Avalon. The pettiness of Titania and her ladies, Amelia not surprisingly included, was too much for Sarah to deal with. She, like Jareth, spent as little time in Avalon as possible.

Her family became close with the McFaddens as well. Toby and Andy had been friends most of their life and she could see that it was clearly so much more than that now.

The black BMW – another gift from Jareth - sped into the parking lot, and she heard her father's sigh. Moments later, Toby and Andy were walking towards them. Toby had grown up so much, and Sarah felt a pang of regret that he would continue to do so. His blonde hair fell in a curly mass around his face and seemed at odds with his strong physique, yet somehow it fit him.

Griffyn rushed to his uncle and was greeted with an eager hug. Andy continued towards the crowd and greeted the Williams. When she came to Sarah, she gave her a gentle hug. "I still cannot believe you are pregnant again," she said with awe. Sarah knew that her parents had taken the comment as a remark on the spacing of her pregnancies, but she understood the true meaning. Andy was Brian's only completely Fae child. Her siblings were adopted changelings. Like Jareth, Andy simply hadn't expected another pregnancy in this mortal lifetime.

"Really, Sarah," Toby teased, "You're as big as a house. You sure you're not eating for three or four?" She glared daggers at her brother, cursing the day she had told him that she was carrying twins. He didn't think it was right for her to keep the news from Jareth and had been dropping hints ever since.

"My father sends his regrets," Andy interrupted before Sarah could retort and start something that shouldn't be finished on her brother's birthday, "But he was caught up with a consulting job." Sarah shot the girl a questioning look knowing that it had to be something important for him to miss the dinner. Andy mouthed 'Avalon' as a simple explanation.

Dinner was extravagant and well worth the exorbitant price. Andy was playing with Griffyn while the rest of the family chatted waiting for dessert. Jareth and Robert were caught up in a discussion about the current investors, and Karen was trying desperately to pry Kelly's cell phone from her hands. Toby slipped into the seat next to her and focused on Andy and Griffyn. "Kelly hates the fact that Griffyn is so well behaved for Andy. If she knew that Andy was using magic, she would be pissed."

Sarah watched as the younger woman flicked sparks in the air and waited for the boy to mimic the trick. She was so used to seeing a similar sight that it took her a moment for what Toby had said to sink in. The magic was obvious to Fae, but humans shouldn't be able to see it. She turned wide eyes to her brother. "What did you just say?"

"I know, Sar," he admitted sheepishly.

She looked to her parents and noticed Karen's attention had turned to the siblings. "I think I need some fresh air. Care to join me for a walk, Kiddo?"

"You have to stop calling me that," he protested as he followed her out of the restaurant. They found a bench, and she sat, not actually thrilled about walking. He slumped down beside her and sighed, "I've been trying to figure out how to tell you, and I couldn't think of a good way. So here it is, I know about everything, Goblin Queen."

She was speechless, honestly and truly speechless. He had seen the magic, knew her true title, and all Sarah could even begin to think was, "How?"

"The real reason Mr. McFadden isn't here is he is explaining why his daughter bonded at such a young age." He sounded so young, partially due to his refusal to call Brian by his given name, and she was suddenly reminded that he was, in fact, barely into adulthood. She had been working so closely with him recently, she had come to see him as a peer rather than the recent college graduate that he was. Worse, she had missed the change that should have been as obvious as it was now.

"Toby, when did this happen?"

"Our anniversary," he admitted. "I proposed to her that night, but she didn't answer me right away. I thought she was rejecting me, but it turns out she wanted me to know the truth first."

He paused and Sarah gave his hand a gentle squeeze. "Obviously, it didn't change anything for you."

"Of course not. I love her and after she explained everything I knew she kept it from me because she was scared I would reject her. Even knowing the truth, I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I just didn't know what that meant at the time."

She knew what he was going through. Seventeen years was a long time, but she still remembered the initial shock, fear, and anger that came with your world being turned upside down. Hell, there were still times when she grieved for her mortality. "At least you had the order correct," she teased in a weak attempt to lighten the mood. Seeing that it had failed, she soothed, "I know that you don't understand it now, but you have been given the greatest gift."

"Had I known what would happen – "

"It wouldn't have changed a thing," Sarah assured him. "A bond is something that cannot be faked and cannot be avoided if it was truly meant to be."

"But the High King's summons sounded serious. I mean Andy seems to be terrified of the man."

Sarah couldn't help but smile. "Toby, you know Oberon, and he already thinks highly of you." At his dumbfounded look, she added, "Of course you know him as Aaron King."

"Your father-in-law is the High King? I thought that Andy was being metaphorical when she said he was Jareth's father. But Mr. King is such a pushover once you get to know him. More so when you have Griffyn as a shield."

"And Oberon is no different. The summons would likely be related to the Troll Kingdom. I believe Andy was supposed to be betrothed to the Troll Prince, but that is obviously out of the question. It will take a little political maneuvering in order to announce your marriage is all."

"Marriage … You know it's still weird. I know I asked her and all, but it happened so suddenly."

"Like I said, Kiddo. At least you did it in the right order. I'm not sure how much of my story Andy told you, but Jareth asked after we were bonded. Try working that one out in your head," she laughed.

He laughed with her, and she suddenly realized that she was never going to have to miss that laugh. She spent so much time coming to terms with losing her family, she had never really allowed herself to hope for an alternative. "Dad was so pissed when you came back from England as it was. I can't imagine …" he trailed off and fell silent. She was not sure, but she could guess at the emotion choking out his words. "I'm going to lose them all, aren't I?"

"Not all of them," she reminded him with a smile. "I will always be here for you, and you have no idea how happy that makes me. But, our family and friends will remain mortal. Mom and Dad were tough, but it's only natural that we would outlive them. It has been hard to watch you, Kelly, Becca and Mark, and so many others grow older. But, you know what makes it easier? You realize that every moment with them is precious, and you enjoy it that much more."

"We can't take them with us, then?"

It was a question she had asked herself. After all, if she was immortal, the easiest solution was to make her friends and family immortal as well. "Kelly may be the only hope," she advised sadly. "Your soul has to be open to the possibility of magic and that's rare. You had an advantage seeing as you'd been Underground already, something I think Kelly is coming close to. I swear I will kill Jareth for reading her the story of the Labyrinth when she wishes Griffyn away."

"I think I should still be bitter about that," he teased.

"If I hadn't done it, neither of us would have found our soul mates," she reminded him. "Besides, Jareth was never a match for me."

"I would like to contest that," Jareth growled. "Here I come to check on my loving wife and find her mocking me." He smiled through the retort and gently kissed her forehead. "I am guessing he finally told you?"

"You knew?" both siblings said in unison.

"I saw the changes immediately. Not to mention my father was cursing about a furious Troll King," he added with a smirk. "I fear you may have made an enemy without realizing it, Toby. However, I will always hold you in the highest regard for knocking that ass down a rung. I know Brian does as well. My father was pushing the match despite our protests."

She caught Toby blinking out of the corner of her eye, and she laughed knowing that Jareth had dropped his glamour completely. "Blinking won't make the eighties rocker look go away, I'm afraid. He refuses to change it."

Jareth glared at her, but she winced as one of the babies kicked her. "Ow," she hissed, and Jareth was instantly kneeling in front of her, eyes full of worry. "It was just a kick, that's it."

"Perhaps, we should go inside," Jareth more commanded than asked. "I believe that your brother has an announcement to make, and the babe is obviously unhappy out here."

Sarah rolled her eyes as she struggled to stand up. Toby was already half way to the door, giddy about talking to Andy. Before he disappeared into the restaurant, he turned and yelled, "Oh Jareth, it's twins by the way." She was going to murder him, immortal or not. "Andy told me about the Bog. I think it's something I would like to avoid."

"Twins?" Jareth asked slyly. "And how long have you known?"

"Pftt, like it was really a secret," Sarah countered, knowing that his magic had likely clued him in long ago. "But yes, twins. And that does not mean that you get to be doubly protective," she added quickly. "I may have to kill you if you start that nonsense."

"I think Kelly is almost guaranteed to be visiting the Labyrinth in that case."

"Perhaps we should find a new babysitter," Sarah suggested.

"Nonsense. I cannot save your parents, but I will not fail with your siblings."

"Wait," Sarah gasped. "You planned all of this?"

"Brian played a part with Toby. We both were hoping to thwart my father, and it was plain to see that they were well matched. I did not guess soul mates, but that is just an added bonus," he beamed, too proud of his plan. Now that it was out in the open, hindsight made her realize that his surprise at the pairing had been too dramatic. "Griffyn has purposely been annoying his dear aunt for years now. It may have been a bet I had suggested to the goblins that started it. I think she will find the Labyrinth as irresistible as her big sister."

She looked at her husband with tears in her eyes. He had been the shoulder to cry on when the grief of losing her family had struck her throughout the years. She never once guessed that he had intended to be more than that. He had hinted that it was possible but refused to actually allow her to hope. All the while, he was secretly working to ensure that her dreams came true. He would never cease to amaze her.

She hugged him as close as her giant belly would allow, savoring his presence. She'd known for a while now that an eternity with him didn't feel like nearly enough time, but there had always been that small shred of regret that came from losing her family. Now, because of him, she would have both. She looked into his eyes and saw his love for her, felt the connection between their souls. How she had ever considered this man a villain was a mystery to her now. But that didn't matter. All that mattered was him and the love that he had proven time and time again.

"I love you, Goblin King," she smiled.

"As I will always love you, Goblin Queen."
