"Alchemy!" Jayden shouts, clapping his hands together as he walks around the tables of students eagerly watching his every move. "Where to begin? Well, I guess we ought to begin at the beginning, aye?" He perches himself on the top of his desk, legs swinging with excitement as he looks around the old room they sat in.

"Alchemy: the process of transforming a common substance into that of something of greater value or desire, for example, gold or even the Elixir of life! Generally this is done without any obvious rational explanation. Well now, if you were to compare Alchemy to other subjects, I suppose it would be closest to potions, however, you may not know, personally I quite like this, there's another part to alchemy, spagyric. Those of you not so fond of potions ought to like this. Spagyric is the production of herbal medicines through alchemic procedures. Now, if Herbology and Potions aren't your thing, there are other connections we can make."

"Transfiguration!" Jayden jumps out off his table, unable to stay still any longer. "Technically, we are attempting to transform an object into another, so there's that. Then there's Ancient Runes, always helpful when you're wanting to know about past alchemic theories. And then there's Muggle Studies! Witches and wizards aren't the only ones to try alchemy, muggles have been attempting it for centuries! Unfortunately, the idea of studying alchemy died out in the 18th century for them with the rise of the study of chemistry. In fact, in 1789 Antoine Lavoisier published a list of 33 chemical elements, rather disproving the theory that there are only four basic elements, and from there on muggle science continued to disprove alchemy."

"Sometimes I feel as though magic itself is simply there to prove science wrong, I mean look at some of the so called scientific facts. According to science, none of the spells we use are possible, and yet" Jayden flicks his oak wand towards an old cabinet in the corner causing it to grow a set of large cat-like legs and start to do a jig, making the class laugh heartily.

"I've gone off topic again, haven't I?" Jayden asks returning the cabinet to it's original state."All right, homework. I know, I know, everyone gives you so much homework, it's terrible, how will you ever survive? I'm not asking for much, I promise! All I want you to do is think about what else can be connected with alchemy, the more far-fetched the better! I want you to each come in next class with something, preferably different to that of your friends!" with that the bell rings calling the end of the class. "Any problems, you know where I am! Now hurry up, it's lunch time! Go have fun!" Jayden laughs to himself as he watches the class move out.
