End of the Game

"What the hell is going on?" Hanna demanded the next day. She had woken up to a million missed phone calls and texts; Alison was in jail for murdering her father, and apparently A was back as well. They hoped that, with Ali in jail the A messages would quickly stop, but they couldn't be certain. When Hanna got to Quinn and Jason's the other girls were already there; Jason had pulled Quinn outside to talk.

"Ew, is she smoking again?" Hanna protested, seeing Quinn through the glass door.

"Better than drinking," Emily reminded her.

"If it was drinking, I might join her," Spencer said, rubbing her forehead.

"Seriously, what's going on?" Hanna said and Spencer passed her her phone with a picture of the card from the flowers where A apologized for killing Quinn and Jason's baby. "Are you kidding me? A?"

"There was an A note where Mr. D was murdered last night," Emily went on to explain. "Alison has no alibi, she was with her dad last night."

"What are they out there talking about?" Hanna asked now.

"They're talking about what to do for Ali's lawyer," Spencer said. "Jason's saying they should still pay for one, but Quinn doesn't want to."

"Can you blame her?" Hanna asked. "My sister in law kills my kid, I'm not paying to keep her out of jail."

"Shh," Emily hushed her as they could see Quinn and Jason reaching for the door to come inside. "Guys? Anything we can do?"

"No, Em," Quinn half smiled at her. "It's ok, um, I'm gonna call CeCe. I just figured you guys could use a break with all the A stuff." CeCe had just recently moved back to Rosewood. She and Eric had gone to New York but had broken off their engagement, causing CeCe to move back home.

"Are you sure?" Hanna asked her seriously.

"We've all been doing this together for so long," Spencer reminded her.

"I know," Quinn nodded in agreement. "But, seriously, you guys go up to the lake this weekend or something. And I'll be up," she added on. "Just gotta figure out some work stuff first." The girls glanced back at Jason who just nodded at them that they should go.

"Ok," Emily nodded hesitantly, all three girls getting up to go. Quinn hugged Emily and Hanna first, hugging Spencer last.

"I'm so sorry Spence," Quinn whispered softly; she and Jason weren't the only ones that lost people.

"Come up tomorrow," Spencer insisted, taking her advice that they should go up to the cabin but wanting Quinn to take the same advice as well.

"I will," Quinn nodded as a promise as she watched the three girls go. While she had a quiet smile as she watched the girls leave, her face immediately turned sour once they were out of the house, the look courtesy of Jason. "Are you at least gonna come up to the lake tonight?" While they were outside, after Quinn refused to give any bail money to Alison, she tried to get him to come to CeCe's with her. Instead, Jason opted to go talk to Alison instead.

"Maybe," Jason nodded in agreement. "I just don't know how long this is gonna take." He paused. "And, I was going to try to talk to my mom too."

"Of course," Quinn said sarcastically, rolling her eyes as she left.

Quinn sat up at the Kahn's old lake house for hours. She had thought that it was weird that CeCe bought it off her ex-fiancee shortly after her move back to Rosewood, but Quinn brushed it off as CeCe just wanting to hang on to good times. That had a lot of fun up at that cabin when they were in high school. Really, it was where Quinn and CeCe became such good friends.

"I am so sorry I'm late!" CeCe said, rushing into the cabin, closing the door and locking it behind her. "I got stuck with this work stuff and..." She waved it off. "Whatever, I'm here now." She glanced around. "Where's Jason?"

"Ah, visiting his mom and sister," Quinn said. CeCe's shoulders stiffened. "Trust me, it pisses me off too."

"How's he leaving you right now," CeCe protested. "I mean you poor thing, after what happened, I..." She trailed off. "What's he thinking?"

"I mean, he lost his dad Ce," Quinn said, a little defensive of her husband even if he had made her angry that day. "He'll be up after." She studied her friend's expression. "What's wrong CeCe?"

"He shouldn't be doing that to you Quinn," CeCe argued.

"Hey Jason," Spencer said as she answered her cell phone that evening. She and the other girls had been at the Hastings' lake house all day, waiting for Quinn to show up as they did what she told them to do; take it easy. "Are you and Quinn on your way up?"

"Shit," Jason murmured. "You haven't heard from her, have you?"

"What? No," Spencer said, immediately concerned. "What's going on?"

"I don't know how to explain this," Jason started off. He wasn't even sure if he believed it, considering it came from his mother. "I think CeCe is the new A."

"What?" Hanna snapped, with Jason on speaker now. "Are you forgetting about your sister meeting up with your dad and murdering him?"

"I talked to her," Jason continued, driving up towards the lake. While the girls were obviously there, that was his best guest on where Quinn was, knowing which house CeCe bought after she came back to town. "She told me she got a text and left my dad, she got drawn away before the murder."

"You believe her?" Emily asked now.

"She was scared," Jason admitted. "She wasn't lying, she knows she's being set up. That's when I went to talk to my mom..."

"What did she say?" Spencer asked.

"I know CeCe was there that night, the night my mom was burying Ali," Jason reminded them. "She was the one that hit Alison, my mom was trying to protect her."

"That doesn't make any sense," Hanna protested.

"Your sister went to CeCe to help her hide," Spencer reminded him. "CeCe had that warehouse in New York where Ali was hiding."

"CeCe had to help my sister get out of town when she showed up for help," Jason explained. "Hiding her was better than bringing her back and opening up that investigation. Both CeCe and my mom would have gone down for that." He paused, shaking his head. "And, after what my mom told me, so much more makes sense. But, I don't know what to believe."

"Believe about what?" Emily asked.

"Why my mom would protect CeCe in the first place," Jason started off.

"CeCe?" Quinn asked in concern.

"Quinn," CeCe said back, her eyes tearing up. "I have to tell you something."

"Ok," Quinn nodded, encouraging her to come sit with her on the couch. "What is it hun? You can tell me anything."

"You're going to hate me," CeCe said, wiping the tears out of her eyes, blinking new ones away.

"I highly doubt that," Quinn said with a smile. "You're my best friend." She rested her hand on CeCe's. "And after everything you've seen me through-"

"That's why you'll hate me," CeCe repeated, getting up and pacing; Quinn was lost. "You weren't...you weren't supposed to be at Melissa's. I didn't know you were coming, and when I saw you I panicked." Quinn's jaw dropped. "Quinn, your baby, I am so-"

"You killed Melissa?" Quinn asked in disbelief. "But, why?"

"Because of how she treated us, how she always acted like she was better than us," CeCe reminded her. "And I needed another way to get rid of Alison." CeCe was unraveling, ranting so quickly she didn't know what she was saying.

"Get rid of her?" Quinn asked. "Did you kill Mr. D? You set her up?"

"Quinn, you gotta understand," CeCe was saying now. "Alison was terrible to you, she always was. She was black mailing you and Jason that whole summer-"

"You're the one that hit Alison," Quinn stated. There were no questions anymore; CeCe nodded. "Why?"

"I didn't want her to hurt you guys anymore, so I got rid of her," CeCe argued. "You're my best friend Quinn." She shook her head. "And I've known, I've always known that she was nothing but evil."

"CeCe is your what?!" Hanna asked, the other two girls too in shock to say anything.

"Was my brother," Jason repeated. "But is now my sister." He still couldn't believe it, even though he was saying it. "I have these dreams sometimes, about Charlie. I thought it was just my imagination, but then my mom told me what happened." It explained the nightmare he had about Charlie getting taken away; that was the day that he had tried to hurt Alison when she was a baby, when his parents sent him away to Radley.

"My mom kept up with him, my dad didn't," he said, which explained why it was so easy for CeCe to go after their dad, why Jessica would protect her after she hurt Alison that summer. "Eventually, she became CeCe. She was able to get out of Radley and started hanging out with us in high school, I guess to get to know us." He shook his head. "Quinn told CeCe everything that summer, everything Alison was doing to us. CeCe went after Ali to protect us."

"I don't understand," Quinn protested, afraid now for her own safety.

"You told me Ali was black mailing you, so I took care of it," CeCe explained again. "Then after we all split up at the end of that summer, I had no idea what your sister was going to do, not till I came back to town." She shook her head. "And when I found out why Aria did all that, that she wanted to get back at those girls...Quinn, what happened to her was their fault."

"No, it wasn't," Quinn protested. "They didn't do anything wrong."

"They're the reason Aria killed herself!" CeCe shouted. "And when I saw how sad that made you, I knew they had to be punished."

"You took over the A game," Quinn realized.

"I did that for you!" CeCe insisted. "Those girls, those bitches had it coming to them, after what they did to Aria."

"She took over being A once Wilden went to jail for killing Garrett," Spencer realized.

"She's obsessed with Quinn," Jason stated now. "She's viewing Aria's breakdown as being your fault, that's why she took over tormenting you. It killed Quinn to see her sister like that."

"And Aria blamed us for everything that happened to her," Emily finished. "She's been messing with us, framing Ali, all because she thinks we're the ones that hurt Quinn?"

"Where are they?" Hanna asked.

"I'm guessing the Kahn's old cabin," Jason said.

"I'm calling Toby," Spencer said.

"Wait for me or him before you try to go over there," Jason said, knowing their plan. "CeCe doesn't want to hurt Quinn, but she might if she feels threatened."

"Ok," Spencer said as she hung up the phone now, with Jason driving just a little faster towards the cabin.

"I never got to have a sister," CeCe continued. "That was all I ever wanted. I loved Jason, but I wanted a sister more than anything." She shook her head. "But I got Alison instead. You know how horrible she was."

"CeCe," Quinn said gently. "I know you just wanted to protect me, but you have to know you can't do this. We can't let Alison sit in jail for this, she didn't do anything."

"Yes, she did!" CeCe protested. "She ruined everything!"

"She's not the one that killed my baby!" Quinn snapped back. "That was you."

"No," CeCe started sobbing. "No, Quinn, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." She was crying harder. "I never meant to hurt you, I'm so sorry." Quinn noticed a car pulling up outside.

"I think Jason's here," Quinn said. "We have to tell him, he'll want to know about you."

"Quinn, I can't," CeCe shook her head. "I can't, you have to help me."

"I can't do that," Quinn said softly. They both jolted as there was banging at the locked door. Quinn realized Toby was with Jason. "I can't forgive you Ce."

Quinn wasn't sure what to expect when she said that. She thought maybe CeCe would snap and lash out at her, she thought that she might try to hurt Jason or Toby. She never expected for her to turn herself in, allowing Quinn to run outside to Jason, seeing where the girls were pulling up. Jason kept his arms tight around her while the girls ran over to hug her as well, with Toby taking CeCe away. Quinn didn't think she had the power to take A down, just by not forgiving her what what she did.

She never expected for it to just be over.
