I felt compelled to do this one. Try not to feel too aghast as you read it…

"Ugh! I can't believe him!"
Sesshomaru looked up from his book as his girlfriend exited his house, shaking her bottled water in the air angrily. She sat down in the chair next to him, slamming her bottle down on the table. He blinked. She crossed her arms and glared at nothing.
He closed his books, holding in a resigned sigh. Placing it on the table, he looked at her steadily. "Kagome."
That was all the encouragement she needed apparently. She turned around in her seat to more properly face him and slammed her fist on the table.
"Do you know what your brother said to me?"
"Half-brother," he corrected.
Her eyes narrowed.
He cleared his throat. "Continue."
"Your half-brother said that Kikyo was prettier than me!" she yelled. "I mean, I get it! He loves her, they're dating, and he thinks she's prettier than me. I'm fine with it! But what I don't understand is why he feels the need to say that I'm so much more ugly than she is! I mean, we're twins! She can't be that much prettier than me. Right?"
Now, Sesshomaru was smart, a genius even, and he dearly loved his girlfriend; adored her even. But he had a habit of telling her whatever he thought without sugarcoating anything, regardless of how she would feel afterwards. It was a bad habit, but he didn't seem overly concerned with changing. Today, this habit decided to rear its ugly head when what he really needed to do was twist the truth. Or lie.
Sesshomaru huffed almost silently. "I must disagree."
Kagome blinked owlishly, her anger dissipating in her shock. "Disagree? With what?"
"With you. For once my half-brother was right. Your sister is indeed much prettier than you."
The silence after his statement was absolute. Sesshomaru figured that meant the conversation had ended and picked his book back up and resumed reading. Kagome, however, was far from finished.
Shaking with ill-concealed rage (Sesshomaru didn't notice because he was too busy reading his book), Kagome took a deep breath. "Wait. So you think Kikyo's prettier than I am?"
Sesshomaru scoffed, still not looking up. "That is what I just told you."
"Well what makes her prettier?" Kagome shouted, standing up to more properly glare at him.
Sesshomaru finally turned to her, his eyebrow raised at her volume. He chose not to comment on that, however, and instead answered her question.
"There is plenty that makes her prettier than you. Her eyes are brown, not as off-putting or disconcerting a color as your own. Her figure is more developed than yours. Her features are more refined. She looks more sophisticated and graceful than you could hope to be. She is simply more attractive."
Kagome took in short shallow breaths, before managing to calm herself enough to cross her arms and stare him down. "So let me get this straight. Not only have you paid close enough attention to my sister's figure that you can tell how well-developed it is, not only do you think I could never even hope to be as sophisticated and graceful as she is, not only do you think she's prettier than I am, but you also think she's more attractive than me? So are you saying you're more attracted to her than you are to me?"
Sesshomaru blinked, looking up at her red face. She looked like she was about to cry. He wondered why.
"Well?" she yelled, demanding an answer.
Sesshomaru sighed, pulling away from his thoughts. She was probably going to cause him hearing loss one day.
"Are you going to answer me?" she asked, her voice rising in pitch.
His ears ringing slightly, Sesshomaru gave her his curt reply, "Yes. I find her more attractive."
Kagome's mouth opened but no words came out. Tears welled up in her eyes, startling Sesshomaru. Why was she crying? She wasn't sad, was she? Deciding immediately that she wouldn't be silly enough to get sad over something so trivial, he came to the conclusion that the tears were of anger. Nodding, Sesshomaru, who refused to believe that he could have made his girlfriend sad enough to cry, prepared his ears for the coming onslaught.
He was disappointed. And confused, because she shouldn't have disappointed him, but she had.
Instead of yelling and stomping around like he had expected, she dropped into her seat, shoulders hunched. Her words were whispered when she spoke. "So, she's really that much better than me, huh?"
Sesshomaru scoffed, barely keeping his composure. Her behavior was odd– she wasn't acting right– and it was making him very uncomfortable. Still, he began to speak as if he wasn't feeling awkward.
"I never said that she was better than you."
Kagome's head snapped up, her eyes shining with tears and reluctant hope. "You don't think she's better than me?"
"I never said that."
Kagome's eyes narrowed, and her tears came dangerously close to spilling out. "What do you mean, 'you never said that?' Either you think she's better than me or you don't! Which one is it?"
"In many ways she is better than you," Sesshomaru said, giving her an answer that she really didn't want to hear.
She reeled back like she had been slapped. "In what ways?" she chocked out.
Sesshomaru, still ignoring the idea that he was making her sad, furrowed his brow. He didn't think he had ever seen her this angry. But, he decided, it was better to just tell her his truthful opinion and avoid making her even angrier by keeping it from her.
"She is more intelligent, she is wiser, more experienced. She has more power, and more skill, and more training. She knows how to communicate without getting lost in her emotions as you often do. She has a sense of self-preservation and she shows more common sense than you. She is gentler. She is not as loud or impulsive, and she is not subject to as many fits of temper. Those are the things that come to mind at the moment."
Kagome slumped back into her chair, her bangs covering her eyes. Sesshomaru watched her warily, waiting for her to blow up; it was bound to happen soon, after all, what with her being so angry.
Kagome let out a breath. "If you think she's so much better than I am, why aren't you dating her?" she asked softly.
Sesshomaru's eyes widened, the only sign that he was taken aback by her question. But inside, he was in chaos. What sort of a question was that?
"Well?" Kagome asked again, her voice still soft. "What's stopping you?"
Sesshomaru didn't know what to say, so he decided on, "She is dating my half-brother."
"Is that all?" she asked, her voice blank. "If she wasn't dating Inuyasha, would you date her?"
"I am dating you," Sesshomaru replied.
"So you wouldn't break up with me?"
"No."
"Why not?"
He blinked. "I love you," he responded, as if the answer should have been obvious.
Kagome looked up at him, her eyes turbulent with emotions. "Why?" she asked, sounding almost desperate.
Sesshomaru blinked again, this time stunned to the core. Why did he love her? That was a silly question. She was Kagome, so he loved her. He didn't really know how to articulate it; he just loved her. She should be content with that. He didn't need a reason to love her, he just did, and he always would.
"There is no reason," he said, confident that she would understand his point of view and stop asking inane questions that made it seem as if she didn't think he loved her. "I merely love you, and that is that."
"'That's that?'" she said incredulously. "'That's that?'" she cried, her voice rising in volume. "It can't be, 'that's that,' Sesshomaru! You have a million reasons why you think Kikyo's prettier than I am, and why you think she's better than I am, and even why you wouldn't date her! Why can't you give me one reason why you love me? I just want one!"
He frowned, unsure what to say. He didn't know what to tell her.
She smiled a sad smile. Tears ran down her face, and this time, Sesshomaru couldn't deny that she was crying because she was sad, because he had made her sad.
"You don't even know," she whispered.
Nothing more was said as she stood and walked off, leaving him alone in his backyard.
Sesshomaru stared at the water bottle she had left, his expression unreadable. He would call her in a few days, he decided. She needed time, space. After he had given it to her, he would see her again, and hopefully she would stop asking stupid questions. In the meantime, he needed to let off some steam, and beating up his half-brother sounded like an excellent way to do that.
…
Yeah…
So…
I didn't mean for it to turn out so… emotional. It was supposed to be funny with a heart-warming ending…
Whatever.
I mean, this wasn't even an argument. It was like, Sesshomaru doing something stupid. Again. I wonder if I should change the story title…
T.N.T!
