A drabble/oneshot of Sam and Cas discussing a certain profound bond.

"Sam? What is being in love like?" Castiel suddenly inquired seriously.

Sam jolted slightly at the sudden question, his stare flicking up from the book he had been scrutinizing. He blinked a few times as the sun poured through the open window, nearly blinding the shaggy haired man. Sam got to his feet and clasped his novel back together, striding across the room to close the shades. The morning breeze gusted through the open window and caused the drapes to billow and flutter. He fastened the drapery, his fingers working at a leisurely pace as he stalled for a few more moments to ponder.

The hunter thought for a few more moments before facing Castiel. "It's like loving someone, except it's more profound-"

Sam cut himself off when he realized the true significance of what had just left his mouth. He then noticed that the angel's intense blue gaze had wavered and flitted over to where Dean was sleeping, sprawled across the coach and snoring softly. An empty, circular tin can rested on his chest while the crumbled remains of an apple pie lingered in the metallic container. A peculiar tremor snaked up Sam's spine when he spotted the deepness of Cas's stare, the love and the softness that was hidden there in his heavenly baby blues. The tiniest of affectionate smiles was tugging on the corners of Castiel's lips.

Sam let out a soft exhale. "Oh."
